I needed keys made for an old lock. Not sure how old but it's old enough that the family has had conversations about replacing it with something a bit more modern. But for now we use what we have and sadly I have started trying to turn the old key I had so hard that the metal blade was separating from the head. I didn't realize I was that strong! I stopped by the store and presented my key and another copy that wasn't a twisted hunk of metal and after some checking and double checking for the right key they cut copies for me. This is the place to have your electronic key fobs programmed. Their price of programming key fobs was much lower than the dealership. I have also had them rekey the locks of my son's car, since he lost his keys on his school's campus. It's nice that they were able to rekey the locks for the door and the trunk. As I was waiting for one of their employees to take me home, I could NOT resist purchasing keys. I ended up purchasing a Lakers, Hello Kitty and a key shaped like a gun. Did I need more house keys? No!... Since my eyesight is far from being 20/20, I am thankful that I bought the aforementioned keys. It is much easier to find my new house key. Called the company to make a key for me for a 2014 Honda CR-V, no electronics, just the key to open the door. Was quoted "$8-$10" on the phone and drove 45 minutes out of my way to have it done. When I get there they say it will be $45 dollars. I tell them I drove 45 minutes to get there, and then they come down to 35 dollars. You know, I understand people make mistakes, but this cost me an hour and a half of my day round trip, and is completely unacceptable. The representative I spoke to on the phone was very friendly, polite, helpful and knowledgeable about keyless remotes for autos. I thought we had lost our extra remote, so I ordered a new one cheaply on Amazon Prime. So I got it the next day and called Foothill Lock and Key to see it they could program the new remote. I spoke with Romeo two times. The first time, I explained the problem and he said no problem and that it would only take ten minutes. The price quoted to me on the phone was very reasonable compared all the other locksmiths I called. The other locksmith guys I called from other places wanted to come to our house. I didn't want that and they were going to charge well over a hundred dollars. Some of these other locksmiths I called don't even offer programming of car remotes. So, I called the second time and apologized, because my wife had the second remote in the safe. (!) She did not tell me about that until I told her I was going to get the new one programmed. LOL How embarassing. So I apologized to Romeo. This does seem like a FIVE STAR place and that is the rating that they deserve! Plus, you know what? I found Foothill Lock & Key through a recommendation on an online automotive forum. I only received one 2015 mazda switchblade style fob with the purchase of a used car. So, I thought they could at least clone the chip and cut a matching key. I was pleasantly surprised when they said they could cut the key and program the fob. They plugged into the car's OBDII port to make this happen. They completed the task on the spot. It was just over $200 out the door in about 15 minutes. That might seem like a lot but compared to the dealership the cost is much less for the parts and labor. If you want to spend a little less ($20) then just go for the generic key for your car that has the plastic top which contains the chip to be programmed to work with your car. I recommend this business for making Mazda OEM copies of car keys and fob. read more
