Decided to give it another try after a couple of years...ordered cheese on my burger for the meal deal. The order taker even repeated it. I get home and there's no cheese on my burger. I call the restaurant and the guy says - "there's no cheese on the burger with the meal deal". Yes but you repeated my order with the additional cheese on it. The drink i got (Coke Zero) had no syrup in it. It was just carbonated water. The guy was either high or just didn't care. I stopped in with a friend to order a rare treat, A milkshake! I got a chocolate in my friend got a strawberry, we were both very disappointed by how incredibly thin and runny they were. I felt like I was drinking chocolate milk and my friend felt like he was drinking strawberry milk. TLDR: High quality ingredients = high quality burger! Fries are top 5! This place was a great way to end the day, heading back home to the bay from Portland. The day started with Tasty and Alder for breakfast, Blue Star donuts for a road snack, and Noodle Man for lunch. I normally don't like to go to a restaurant that is half hour from closing. I can sympathize with the staff... they want to close early so they can enjoy the night. Plus I don't want them to resent me and spit in my food. That being said, we got there half hour before closing... but the order lady was still very friendly and smiley. Luckily there was no line either, so after taking our order, we could sit anywhere we wanted. I read on the website about how they use the best organic local ingredients, and we could tell! Yes, the burgers were a little on the small side... only a little bigger than a slider. But it was soo soo delicious. This burger is definitely gout-worthy! (Meaning, I would risk gout for it!) Usually, my wife orders the beef and I the chicken, but this time I got the big kahuna! And I wouldn't trade it for anything! The sauce was excellent, the beef patty was juicy, the cheese was melty and rich and the bun was soft and a little sweet. It was a heavenly burger! Sooooo satisfying despite it's smallish size. I got my wife the chicken burger, and it was just as good, even though she likes hers dry (meaning no sauce, butter...) The chicken was juicy and tender. She likes this one over chik-fil-a just because it's a smaller size so it fit her appetite more. But they are both similar in taste... The fries were heavenly. Almost every piece was crunchy, and they put this spice on it... it's not spicy but it was fragrant. No need for ketchup at all. In fact, that would cover the taste of the spices. It was the perfect fries for me. My wife prefers fries that taste more like a potato, but not me. So she would give the edge to In-N-Out fries, but I think this one is much better. We apologized to them again before we left, because they were starting to clean up the place. But again the whole staff was super friendly, and didn't seem that resentful of us. I hate wearing brand logos on my clothing, so when I tell you I have a flip sweatshirt with a logo on it and full menu on the back, that should say something about the special nature of the food at this restaurant. In fact leaving this review has clarified my dinner plans, so maybe I'll see you at flip or you read this 10 minutes ago. *when I say best, I don't mean some arbitrary bs--everyone has an opinion, but I'm talking about the facts: -organic and grass fed beef and chicken -you can order your burger cooked to temp -buns are made across the street, fresh -they are fast -they are filling, even for a guy who smokes a lot -they have one of the best soft drink company machines -toppings are pickled onions, lettuce, and yum sauce, none of which are overbearing, overly sloppy or tasteless -they use tasteful amounts of real lettuce -the buns are grilled before your burger goes in them -I've probably ordered 200+ burgers over the years here and never once had a problem with the food: it's never been over or undercooked, per my specifications, and when I've forgotten to specify temp, they never have over cooked my food, I've never had an order missing anything, or had them mess an order up; and most importantly, the quality has stayed consistent the entire time. This burger literally shits on every other burger in town. It's also equal or better than the beef of any of the other spots that serve burgers. This place has reversed my vegetarianism as well as a couple other friends of mine over the years. Hearsay, alchemy, brick room, peerless are all supposed to have great fine dining caliber food, but have all fucked up their burgers for me at different times, have forgotten simple things like grilling the bun or letting the burger sit so it doesn't just dump all its juices and melt the bun to mush before it gets to your table, use lesser quality ingredients, or have inconsistently cooked portions of their burgers, and they, up until recently we're all $9+ the cost of a flip burger--flip Recently upped their prices 25%, which I don't blame them for cus of the cost of food going up and many of the organic beef producers in the area have stopped producing so there's like 2 and they have increased their prices significantly. Heard real good word of mouth, and decided to give it a try. Got a regular burger and chowder. Burger was exceptional, and the brioche bun toasted nicely. The toppings were proportioned well, and the topping very good. Chowder was surprisingly good from a burger place. Nice customer service, and although small, they have quite a few tables inside and a few outside. Considering downtown Ashland and the quality of the burger the price point is very reasonable. I will try it again, with the fries. I had heard they are good as well. Think they do alot of takeout, many orders were picked up while I ate there. Think if you added a drink fries and extra toppings you would spend around 20ish, which is almost restaurant prices. That's why four and not five, will eat there on occasion but not frequently abit to pricey for me. For me a Big Mac or Whopper combo at half the price is more my speed. read more

I am writing an updated review to say that I wont be patronizing this establishment ever again. My husband and I came in together for a meal and had an even weirder/worse experience the second time. I asked about the sodas since we were eating in house this time and they told us that refills were $.50 each, then proceeded to literally pour at least a cups worth of soda down the drain while filling our cups, as if he were pouring foam off a beer... but it's not foam, it's just carbonation! I have never seen an act as condescending and wasteful in my life, it definitely felt like some weird slap in the face, though I'm sure he must have had some misconception about carbonation and how it settles, I wonder if the owner knows of this wastefulness? Eating in restaurant even more bizarre than I could have imagined, weird hippie couple staring at us our entire meal laughing (not just being paranoid, almost asked them to stop), no pepper available to public only salt (wtf?), everything seemed to be miniature including the empty ketchup bottles at the tables (I asked for ketchup at the counter but he said there was some on the table). I'm so excited to be the first to register a restaurant on yelp and write the first review! I wish I could say the same about eating the actual food. Before I go further, I should mention I did not actually order any food, but from eating other people's burgers, I would give it a solid 2.5 stars. However, I have been told I am too harsh and I am choosing to take pity for their first critique and am rounding up. I want to talk about fries. I love fries. Thick, crispy, fresh, hot fries that melt in your mouth after that initial crunch mmmmmm that is the life. I was horrified by flip's fries. For $2.75 the best they could muster was thin, soggy, slightly burnt lame excuses for my favorite side. I'm still crying from disappointment. But okay I get it, you don't care if the fries aren't good, it's all about the burgers. I say if I pay $6.25 for a burger it better be at least decent. They were drippy from the sauce and rather crumbly. I was very let down by the tiny portions that could easily fit into the hands of a small child. Flip is my go-to place when I want something fast but high-quality for lunch. They have only a few options because each of them is perfect just the way it is. Their standard burger is the perfect size, has a homemade bun, the sauce is really good etc. I recommend that if you want to order from Flip, ask them what their monthly special is. They don't always put it online but it's almost always AMAZING so don't miss out. One month it was a fried chicken burger with pineapple jalapeno coleslaw and spicy aoili sauce and I dream about it all the time. Right now it's a gyro burger. There is always something different to get hooked on. Again, I have never ever gone and not loved it. The fries and shakes are also great. Best milkshake I have had in years. But sadly, the milkshakes are only available with dairy so if you have issues with dairy there isn't the option. My one criticism is I wish you guys had non-dairy options for the milkshakes because they are sooo good! read more

3 1/4 stars for Flip... Second trip in, after the initial visit came during their first month of opening... I guess I still don't get it... The burger was good, but not crazy good or at a level that meets the steep price... They've improved their fries (although, I liked them the first time as well)... I get that this place focuses on a more natural aspect of eating... What it amounts to is a tiny meal that is pretty good but costs too much for what you get... Preach the natural aspect, I'm all for Flip and other places to spread the good word... But honestly, if you wanted to send a better message, lower the price a bit... Pretty impressed with this small burger joint. I went with the burger/fry/soda combo. I was at first surprised by how small the burger looked, especially for the $10 price tag on the combo, but it ended up being the perfect size for me. We actually really enjoyed the flavor and quality of the burgers. They were cooked how we asked and the meat had a really nice texture. The pickles and the flip sauce are divine. Impressive burger. The fries were also really good. Some were a little too salty but that happens. Do yourself a favor and get the garlic aioli dip for them. Sodas were craft - unique and delicious. My main complaint is I wish there were more topping options for the burgers. Tomato or avocado at least. Not a deal breaker.
