I am a big fan of Sammiich. THe highlight of my week is eating lunch there. I happened to be there today when the negative review was posted and know for a fact that their review was very inaccurate and unkind. I know the staff to be terrific and had gone way outof their way to accomodate this unplesant client. They offered a free cookie or drink while they remade the order that had not been made to the clients request that was a fair misunderstanding. And I would suggest to the client that they check theit watch because I know that the 1 hour time line that was complained about was unfairly inaccurate. A small business like this depends on fair and accurate reviews. I suggest that people that care will read all the reviews before making any decisions for a terrific dinning experience. We discovered Giardiniera there and fell in love with how it brightened the sandwich. The service was great - she looked up who supplied their Gluten Free bread and sold some to us. All seating is outdoor and that's okay when weather is good, but what about it is summer heat or winter cold? I won't know because I didn't see any reason to come back. Ordered a $20 sandwich (Tre) with potato salad , a Coke and cookie for $28 before tip of $5.50. But I had to bus my own table so why am I tipping so much. After seeing a post about Sammich on social media for their Chicago Italian beef sandwich, we were super excited to give them a try. Our favorite Italian beef sandwich spot closed down a few years ago. This place is strictly outdoor seating but they have fans and shading for the warmer weather and heaters for the cooler weather. We got there within an hour of opening and wasnt very busy but the crowds did come and go in waves. Assuming this place is very busy during the week as its across from the College. The sandwich was delicious. Nice crusty bread that holds up to the meat and au jus dip thats by default served on the side. Comes with a bag of regular salted chips and a pickle. Meat quantity wasnt thin or alternately packed but it was tasty. The giardinnera was SPICY but flavorful. Next time will absolutely ask for the sandwich to be dipped (you can also get cheese but why? And I love cheese... but no) We paired our sandwiches with a beer and enjoyed the people watching. They get a wide array of clientele. Will be back! read more

The portions were huge so we were able to eat the second half of our sandwiches for dinner. They were just as good that evening. We ordered for takeout and the food was ready quickly. It has been several years since I came here and the place has been reorganized with the dining area and kitchen combined into one large kitchen. Dining has moved into a structure of plastic and cloth and an outside section. The sandwiches are still good. The Chicago Italian had beef and chopped-small veggies (most of which fell out of the sandwich) plus a pickle and potato chips. However, the cook forgot the provolone cheese that I had asked for and it might have held the veggies in. Super cool little sandwich spot! We shared da burger and the albacore. Da burger was really good! Seared nicely, seasoned well and the heirloom tomato was tasty, fresh jalapeños were a nice touch! The albacore was good but I felt it needed some seasoning and I should have got it on the bun not sliced sourdough. Would've been better if the sourdough was toasted, love the sprouts! Was excited to try this place. Had the beef Sammich and the pastrami with two John dailys. Sadly the drinks were sour. They need more sugar in their lemonade. The beef sandwich was bland. It was spicy because it had jalapeños on it, but it had very little 'flavor'. The au jus made it more pleasant, but overall I was very disappointed. Then I tried the pastrami and it was night and day. The pastrami was excellent. Top three contender of all time. The meat was super tender and smokey. It paired perfectly with the slaw. The rye was also a master creation, not too tart and just a hint of sweet/savory which complimented the slaw and meat perfectly. The pastrami is the sandwich I will come back again and again for. The patio was small, but they had multiple heaters going. The young man at the register had a fantastic smile and such a warm Personality. We have stopped here a couple of times traveling between home (CA) and Portland. There is a good variety of sandwiches, both meat and vegetarian, some hot and some cold, as well as beers, ciders, and NA drinks. We like to try the specials. The servers are patient and friendly and allow us to share a sandwich. There is only outside seating on a covered patio, with heaters. The food is severely overpriced for what it is. I understand things are more expensive now but when people pay ~$20 for an average size sandwich it better be other worldly. This place was mediocre, they do give you a small bag of 8 chips with your sandwich but we were overall just underwhelmed. We got the BLAT and pastrami zombie (which was soggy) and it was $46! On top of that and the Ashland food tax; in this tip for everything culture they still want to ask for a tip when you are ordering your own food at a window and getting your own water. They have a cute patio area that kinda runs over into a parking lot but overall we decided it's not worth the money and won't be going back. read more

I think the only things holding this place back are the location and the price. It's hard to find if you don't know where to look. There's a slight hill from the shops above that block it off. The price is hard because you can tell this is QUALITY. Care goes into making each ingredient and the staff is always great. Just when you get a sandwich and it's $20-25 like ouch. Don't get me wrong. Pay for the quality. Just I would love a half sandwich and soup for $15. That's ideal. One tip is the Pastrami Zombie? Get it toasted. I don't know why it doesn't come toasted. This was our first time at Sammich, Ashland. There is a lot of buzz about this ... (you can't call it a restaurant ... maybe a brick-and-mortar food truck) ... especially on Food Network ... so we were excited to give it a try. We tried the Pastrami Zombie ($18.00), the Porkstrami ($15.00), and a cup of Potato Salad ($5.00). I don't know if I really understand what "Chicago Italian" style pastrami is, but it didn't seem recognizable as pastrami. Both sammiches were very generous, excellent smoked beef brisket or pork sandwiches, just not what I crave when I crave Pastrami. The Potato Salad was, to me, just so so. The sammiches did come with a bag of chips, and a pickle spear. So, great local place, friendly Staff, outside dining, no visible restroom, good, solid smoked sandwiches. Four Stars. The cranberry relish had no flavor other than a bit of sweetness and the micro shredded iceberg lettuce gave no texture. The GF bread, however, was good and I was thankful they offered it. I can't remember the last time I had a sandwich that was better than my sammich at sammich. I came here with my 4 buddies. One of them I have a hard time understanding because he is German, but the other German I have a good time understanding except when his mouth is full of sammich and he is trying to talk to me when his mouth is full of sammich. We talked about talking in German. They told us about when Germans disagree (because they do a lot which isn't a bad thing I am German and also handsome). When they disagree, someone says nine. Not the number but the word for no. I understand it is spelled like a number but do not be naive. Then, to counter someone disagreeing, you say dugh. Make sure you use the back of your throat. It has been years since I've gone to this place because the last time it was extremely lackluster and only nominally Chicago style... Well, unfortunately, nothings changed. That is in terms of food, the outside eating area is nice and the seating offers a new way to enjoy the patio. Chicago style Italian beef however is the furthest thing from Chicago style I've had outside of eating Chicago style pizza in Japan. The bread was dry, and so crunchy it cut my mouth open and scraped my lips, and there was less than an inch width of beef in the sandwich and was mostly comprised of toppings like peppers, onions, etc. The juice that the sandwich came with wasn't even salty and was in a container too small to dip the sandwich in. The meat in the sandwich was dry and unseasoned, and the vegetable toppings were also fairly flavorless, even though they were spicy peppers and onions. I failed to read the menu correctly, which offers the selection of provolone cheese, but it wouldn't have made much of a difference what with all the shit they fucked up trying at Chicago style. The beef wasn't even greasy, at all, or wet, which shows they didn't dip the beef in the juice before putting it in the sandy, which is baseline Chicago style Italian beef procedure. This is a dry roast beef sandwich with dry bread and bland toppings, and an au jus that could have been confused Flint, MI water. I ate a bite and threw the whole thing out because it was a 3/10 sandy even before it failed at being Chicago style. Even the pickle was lackluster, and I threw it in the bushes. I'm really not a picky person, and I travel a lot so I get a lot of variety in terms of quality and cuisine, but this food is so fucking bad by comparison of price and quality that I gotta say something about it. I'm not even that much of a Chicagoan by culture, but I know anyone who fuckin lives there would probably talk some mad shit to the owners about the sham of an Italian beef they make. Honestly calling it Chicago style is a danger to the business This sandwich is the epitome of ketchup on hot dogs style bs to anyone who has spent anytime living in the city of Chicago. Also, took them over 10 min to make this and there was no one else there ordering and only 3 people showed up around the time I was there sitting and unwrapping the horror story that was this meal. They have gotten so many things exactly right...Kristi greets you like you are an old friend. Her personality is contagious- she is exactly the kind of person you want taking care of you at a restaurant. The ingredients they use are excellent quality and all meats roasted in house. The menu is bold, large and easy to read. From the first delicious bite you realize this place really cares about quality and about the customer experience. Absolutely delicious. The vampire slaw so different and fresh. This is seriously an epic sandwich /sammich experience! Will be back- worth the 45 minute drive for sure.
