I was contemplating what to eat for dinner. It was warm out, and I wanted to do something low key. Do I sit down at a restaurant? Do I get take out? I was craving fried chicken and looking around at some of the restaurants, I just wasn't feeling it. I thought I'd just go get a sandwich, but I wasn't feeling that either. But I stopped in to Safeway to see what was in the deli. I got 4 pieces of fried chicken for $4.99. I also got a pint of broccoli cheese soup, and a cheddar bagel. So instead of going to get an almost $40 friend chicken meal at a restaurant, I recreated a bougie meal for under $12. The brute was a gift...LOL! The chicken was really good and everything else complimented it. I came here last year because I baked two cakes and they had everything I needed. Great store to come to, though some of the customers are a little sketch...LOL! read more

Love this store. Been coming here for 27 years minus the time they sold out to another company. Easy in, easy out. Friendly staff. Food meets the standard fare: not too expensive nor cheap (and lousy). Bought blueberries from Peru, apples from Washington, green beans and peppers from California. Lucerne milk is fine. Beer selection is decent. And I can use my shopping points for fill-ups at select gas stations. read more

I like Safeway a lot, especially in combination with Instacart. On days when I'm feeling good, I ride my bicycle to Safeway with a daypack, and load up as much as I can. Other days, when I've needed big things, and felt the other way, I used to rely on the Ashland Connector (currently out of service due to personnel shortages). Now I depend on the benevolence of neighbors and friends to tote me around when they can, and I am blessed in that respect. When I am unsuccessful in hitching a ride, Instacart via Safeway truly simplifies my life. Ordering online allows me to linger, allows me to click on my calculator and do the numbers, do the math, to work it out, to save my butt some money. And you bet your butt it does. I'm a Safeway member as well, so I save money regardless. True, Instacart's annual membership fee is a hundred bucks per year. For me, free delivery pays for itself in a short time. Plus I've never had to wait over an hour for my groceries to arrive. Also true, a gratuity for the picker, packer and delivery person of your order is suggested. Again, it's a small price in my world for the convenience, and allows me to give a nod of appreciation and respect to the person who brought me food. I tip15 percent. More during holiday times. All of it goes to your personal shopper/delivery person. Safeway's selections for the food-sensitive are increasing, with products such as Forager, Good Karma, Daiya, Soy Silk, and other dairy-free, gluten-free, vegan-friendly, and plant-based alternatives. I will give absolutely no stars to this store ,I went in to simply get a few needs for dinner and my husband waited in the truck , the assistant manager called police on my husband and made fake accusations of him supposedly harassing employees( sorry but not true ) all because we have a Trump sign on our vehicle and the employees dont like it , so not only is Safeway a discriminatory store they lied and made up fake accusations to the police, wasting police time, if there was a actual concern the manager should have cane out and talked with the people involved in the issue .. but there was no real issue and Safeway is lucky i do not sue them for discrimination.. I will never shop in any Safeway store again .. maybe Safeway needs to look into who they hire to be professional, because what happened today was no where near professional.. and i am appalled by the management's behavior. I stopped shopping at Safeway 30 years ago. I don't purchase conventional, processed, or junk food, which appears to be what Safeway specializes in. I prefer the highest quality organic produce and grass-fed Wagyu beef and pork as well as SMART chicken. These things are not available here. I like Safeway because it's convenient because I live right down the street but they're expensive and are out of items like bottled water too frequently. Plus their customer service really lacks. For instance, I just tried calling to see if they found my lost wallet and nobody ever came to the phone I tried 3 times.Good luck if you need Western Union they're so understaffed you'll have to wait until the lines go away before anyone can help. I realize that corporate entities from the same company will have differences, but just returning from Ashland, Oregon, this Safeway was off the charts horrendous. Just arriving in Ashland I went to Ashland Food Co-op and finding it closed I went to Safeway. I was starving. At the deli counter a grinning employee was chatting with a cutsomer and I interrupted asking for a Rotierie Chicken, whence she said grinning she was sorry they were out. Pretty deaperate for food I grabbed a bottle of wine and ordered two small tubs of "fresh" salad. The chicken with pasta was inedible and at me destination I threw most of it out. The Kale salad was tolerable. Safeway checkout intentionally maintains long lines. The fate guy in front of me (I picked the shortest line) had 35 things. Finally the check out guy asks me for my birthday. I'm 70 years old. This, UNLIKE the San Francisco Marina Safeway, is land of losers for losers. Horrible rude service at the deli. Counted 6 employees walking around and heads down not acknowledging 5 people at the counter. Waiting a good 5-7 mins I finally asked " is there anyone who could help us here". The one employee said "we are all busy" and put her head down. She legit was making a sandwich but the other 5 hiding in the back or carrying a bucket and walking off. Totally could have helped serve the people at the counter waiting. Rude and not friendly!!!!!! Finally they called someone else up to help which this blonde gal with glasses was very nice and customer friendly. Very disappointed with this staff back there. I used to work in a deli at Fred Meyers and was trained properly to stop what we were doing and take care of customers or at least acknowledge them. read more

This just happened, left a bitter taste in my mouth. I'm ready to check out, i walk to an open register, then someone says, "you queue here, one line to all registers", ok that's fine and what i remembered during Covid (which is still out there). So i queue behind 6 people and wait 15 minutes and get to the front. I then see people walking up to open registers, so i say "hey, we queue here"...and to a lady next walking up who does the same, I ask her to queue with the rest of us. At this point a safeway checkout says, "no we form lines in front of each register". WTF? Safeway, get your act together put signs up explaining what you want and how it works. I don't mind except then the guy at the register was telling me I am rude for telling people to queue up. He was flaming me in front of other customers...I guess the bar is set very low now for folks Safeway is good enough to provide jobs. read more

Ashland Safeway is the Mecca of all grocery stores. The remodel really did it justice and this Safeway was really catered to the needs and wants of Ashland. The organic section is HUGE. There is always a wide selection of produce. The bakery is really great. But do you know what my favorite part of the Ashland Safeway is? THE REDUCED PRICE BAKED GOODS SECTION. HALLELUJAH!! I always stop by to see whats in store. (One time I impulse bought two banana breads! And let me tell you I was satisfied with my purchase). Great sales with a Safeway club card and you cant beat the prices in Ashland. The checkers are the friendliest and most accommodating in town. I feel so welcome at Safeway. (Whereas I have been judged by cashiers in other Ashland grocery stores.... one even tried to tell me I should buy something so rude.) I love the friendly banter and sense of humor that the workers have at Safeway. Truly magnificent customer service. And once a manager noticed that I could find the item I was looking for and she put an order into the store specially just for me! What!! What a dedication to the customer makes me so happy! The remodeled Safeway has become my go to grocery store! I used to patronize Shop N Kart almost exclusively, with shopping at the old Safeway sporadically when I needed something quick. Now, it's the opposite. The employees are so much friendlier than at SNK and they have a great selection of natural and local/regional products. They are challenged for space and sometimes I find they stock superfluous items, like a lot of handmade soaps and aromatherapy blends, rather than some very basic items ( like muffin baking liners) which is a bit odd. With that said, I really enjoy shopping here. The music is fun and upbeat and creates a nice shopping experience. I want to give a shout out to Stephen and Fabian- who are always so friendly and helpful. They are such an asset to the store! Thanks Safeway! read more

Came into town for the SOU graduation and was nothing but disappointed with the staff. As I walked in they rudely made me put my backpack up front because it was past 10:00. I understand procedure but the attitude was unnecessary. As we proceeded to shop we were followed around by staff members when we were in the alcohol section of the store, even after we had left to the food section. Once we were ready to pay I went up front to grab my backpack so I could pay for the few items I was watched and the cashier proceeded to shake his head at me and when I asked if there was a problem he said he was "kidding" but continued to patronize me. The store itself is nice but the staff could be better. If i could give ZERO stars for my review I would. I personally work in customer service and I know how customers should be treated and what I experienced was nothing short of unacceptable. read more

Well it just didn't make any sense to me why a Safeway with such high quality food and such incredible vegetables and fruit could be rated anything less than five stars. These people take great care of the store and I came in on a Monday afternoon lots of checkers, no lines, and absolutely beautiful fruits and vegetables. I've shopped at a Safeway store for over 40 years, as I have other grocery stores in Ashland. I've seen the Safeway go from different hands and then resurrect . It's better than ever now. I think the idea of friendly and unfriendly depends somewhat on the mood of the person who is writing this review. The management has been nothing but kind, friendly and helpful to the residents I know in Ashland, and they do fill a need for this community. Especially for people who can walk from downtown. It's a neighborhood store. Parking is easy for seniors, and the prices are pretty good. You also get discounts at the gas pump which I really like! Since moving to Ashland two years ago, I've consistently shopped here. But lately I've come to realize how mediocre at best the store is. Their meat and fish department is usually closed by the time I get there after work, and even when it's open their fish looks several days old. On top of that, they constantly run out of products, and will often jack up the price by 40% on a stable you've been buying for a long time (e.g. they stopped selling cases of their store-brand seltzer water for $5.00 a case and now only sell twelve packs of it for $3.49). I can afford the extra two bucks a case, but don't like being ripped off. I'm sure if I look around there are better options. read more

All I was looking for was taco seasoning, I asked 7 separate employees and each one sent me to a different place, none of which was where the taco seasoning was. Not one employee offered to show me where to go or escort me to the item I was looking for. In the end it took me walking up and down every aisle, and the one aisle your associates DID NOT tell me to go to before I found the horrible selection of taco seasoning myself. I will not return due to the terrible selection offered and poor customer service I experienced there. read more

I have lived in Ashland for 13 years and do 75% of my grocery shopping at the Ashland Safeway. I have found none of the problems posted by others. The staff is friendly and helpful. The reviewers that commented favorably on the Co-op failed to mention the miserable parking, high cost, lack of name brands, few choices. bob read more

I grew up with grocery stores like this, so I do have a sense familiarity. That said, they always have what I want in stock. I enjoy the 5 dollar Friday's, the deals are pretty good. The Safeway card cuts down my total bill every time so, it's hard not to shop here. read more

Not the best place to shop for every day groceries. Even with the "discount" card everything is still expencive as hell. I spend $60 and walk out with maybe two bags. I spend the same amount at Shop N Kart and leave with 3-4 bags of groceries. There is always a line and sometimes only one checker with 15 people line. 5 minutes later someone comes to open up one more lane... there are 8 lanes!!! Use them Safeway!! I love the wine selection tho and they do have some excellent deals on wine sometimes. I only shop here when im too lazy to drive to shop n kart and only need one or two things.. read more

This Safeway is great, the prices are average, but the products are top notch. The staff is always friendly too. The remodel is a great change, most things about it are great. I stop frequently for lunch and coffee (Starbucks). Here's the rub....I really like having a place to chill and eat my lunch, and the new cafe area is great for that.... about 6 months out of the year. It's half way open air, and the heaters don't really cut it. I can deal with the conditions though, but the staff close it up frequently. That leaves 2 tables inside that have homeless folks camping out on them. I don't have a problem sharing with them, but there isn't enough space. If Safeway would install some kind of additional barrier on the door or the upper half of the walls so they could keep the main tables open when its colder there would be plenty of space for all the paying customers. That would earn you some stars! read more

Across the board there is some good service happening at this Safeway and we can see that the employees and managers are doing their best to take customer needs seriously. However I've been to this Safeway so many times now, I cringe every time I need to go to the checkout. On more than one occasion we've been checked out by a clerk named Paul...I will never check out with him again! And neither will the other people who have complained about him to me. I'm surprised there isn't already a review about his customer service. I just hope this gentlemen learns how to read an audience. His "jokes" are inappropriate and insensitive. Also, he really shouldn't make any jokes about women, period. He did nothing but make me and my husband uncomfortable by inserting himself into our conversation and insinuating that I am some sort of nagging wife and how my husband should not allow me to "boss him around." What's frustrating is that this has not happened just once, hence the review. My partner and I can count on this person to make us uncomfortable every time we go into Safeway, which is why we now avoid his check out line. I did consider sending this review directly to their customer service department because I initially felt I was the only one with these concerns until a friend of mine actually brought it to my attention. It was after that conversation I began bringing it up and learned that there are many other women that he makes uncomfortable and are frustrated with his "jokes." Because there are others who feel similarly, I believe this to be a much broader issue and should be treated as such, which is why I made the decision to post it publicly. All I can say is if you want to check out...until this issue has been addressed, stay away from the privileged white guy named Paul. I truly hope this is helpful and the managers at Safeway take this feedback seriously. read more

Went in for a pint of milk. Waited 10 minutes (I was next) in line for the cashier to finish the 2nd half of $130 order. The cashier was really struggling with figuring out produce and the for half of that time the manager was quietly looking over her shoulder and walked away seeing that she was struggling. Other cashier's lines were stacking up because this cashier was so slow. Finally, when the order was done the cashier mis-keyed something and needed a manager's override. Now, the manager was nowhere to be found. Apparently they don't have a PA to find him. That was enough for me. It is not worth my time for a pint of milk (they also don't have chilled soda water) and I left. This is all on the manager. The cashier was not well trained and he was not supportive of his people. Probably the crappiest safeway around, especially compared to those in California. If you are in Ashland and looking for a good grocery store, go to "shop n kart" or anywhere else. There are about 5-6 checkstands but only ever 1 or 2 cashiers. If you come here, expect to wait in line with about a dozen other people before you can checkout. LAME store. read more

DO NOT BUY ANY FROZEN TREATS FROM THIS STORE! I repeat... DO NOT. They let their frozen freight sit for God knows how long. I live around the corner and use it as a convenience type store (after The Co-Op is closed, etc.) and every single time I buy popsicles, ice cream, etc it has completely melted and refrozen leaving a sticky mess. Also, it's never a quick trip, often the check stand lines are 10+ people and it takes a million years to get out of there. Just like Jesus, Safeway has risen again. And just like Jesus it is far better than we deserve. Because it is an Ashland historic building, the setup is a bit different than most other safeways but that just adds to its charm. The cashiers are friendly and personable. So glad to have our mid-town store back! Pretty much a combo of Albertsons (many of the same specialty-packaging offerings) and the Co-op (organic, local and natural items). I think the aisle signage and the layout could use some tweaking with time (weird place for bread, for example), but my only real complaint is the recycling -- way around the side of the building outside, with one very finicky machine which has no bulk loading bin (one can at a time). We need better than this at an Ashland store. read more

i walk to safeway all the time and i tie my dog up in the same spot where everyone ties there dogs normally and while shopping i was asked over the innercom to remove my dog from outside the store just because of the fact she was a pitbull an someone complained and said that they where afraid of her. so i moved my dog went back shopping and when i leave the store someone else has their much larger dog tied in the same spot where my dog was but it didnt seem to be a problem at all. my dog is a very sweet loving animal. I feel she has been discriminated now, and that i cannot take her on walks here an leave her tied up outside the store anymore read more
