We were staying at the hotel this weekend and were lucky to have Fletchers open for take out and in room dining. As one would expect there wasn't many places open on Christmas day for lunch and it was especially difficult to find gluten free options with so many places closed. Fletchers has a nice menu to choose from with apps, salad and soup, and some delicious entrees. They also did carry out wine by the glass or bottle which was essential for my holiday travel survival. The husband ordered fish and chips which they managed to keep crispy even with being in a plastic to go container. I ordered the halibut and the chef pan fried my brussel sprouts since the usual ones are fried in a shared fryer. The attention to allergy precautions was really appreciated and my meal was on point. Perfectly cooked and seasoned, I was astounded that if they do this good with take out i can only imagine how delicious everything is when plated and served warm. Orders were ready after only a modest wait and the service was pleasant and helpful. Next time I stay in Anchorage with the husband I'll be sure to go back and try their dine in experience. read more

I was excited about visiting Alaska and the experience of having fresh, Alaskan Salmon. Though, that's not what I experienced at all at Fletcher's. After ordering the Honey Glazed Salmon medium rare by way of Uber Eats, I was thoroughly disappointed after receiving a fish that was SO over-cooked that it bounced off of the wall like a handball. I was unaware that Alaskan Salmon could be THAT well done, over-cooked, and dry beyond negative moisture. I was also unaware that any chef or cook worth his or her weight would actually bungle their one job to such an extreme degree. I truly can't believe that I paid $60 for that botched order. And then I happily returned to New York City, where restaurants know how to grill a piece of salmon without butchering it. read more

It's been a year since I've been to Fletcher's and loved their food but tonight was unusually bad. -Lasogna Bolognese: Not cooked, pork was raw. -Sicilian Pizza: Not cooked thorough, pepperoni not separated, stingy with the meat. -Hamburger: Ok but hamburger patty was stacked wrong, on top of the all lettuce, tomato etc left is soggy. Pizzas are good, spaghetti & meatballs is good. Wish the spaghetti came with a piece of garlic bread tho. Service was slow on this Saturday, for a reason that was not apparent to us. The greeting at the door was a bit awkward, with the greeter impolitely stopping us to have us sign the "Covid Guest Book", which was off to the side and easy to miss. What a coincidence we were in town and it happened to be "pirate pub crawl night" we ended up at Fletcher's. Since the night was busy, it took a little bit for a table of six to get seated . We went here for a late lunch, and ended up having the best seafood chowder we've had in Anchorage. We came back two other times for the seafood chowder, but keep in mind that they get pretty busy during peak dinner hours so try to come earlier or a little after to avoid waiting a long time for a table. read more

We had a late dinner here after arriving at the Captain Cook Hotel. Even though it was quite busy, our party was seated right away. Our server was a great guy who was courteous and friendly. We ordered the Chicken Noodle Soup, Spaghetti with Meatballs, and the Rueben Sandwich. Soups were flavorful, hot, and full of vegetables and chicken. The Rueben was huge and full of flavor. Going to this place inside the hotel you may think it's too fancy but the dress code was very casual. Got seated pretty quickly and Jasmin was very nice even though it looked like she was the only waitress available as she was going to every table. She was a trooper. Took our orders and the cali Mari I had was delicious and the jalapeño sauce and the other I can't remember were so good I saved them to have with my entree. My friend had the clam chowder and said it was the best he's ever had! My other friend had the Baja tacos and also said they were delicious. One friend had the steak sandwich medium rare and the lasagna which were good and he devoured. I ordered the ribeye medium and although it came out medium rare it just melted in your mouth and was delicious. I might have to order medium rare more often. My boys ordered the banana pudding and key lime pie to top it off and tore it up. Everything here was great. We also had the Hefeweizen which was also great to top off the steak. I ordered a pizza (to go) while staying at Hotel Captain Cook. It was the reindeer sausage and pepper pizza. What a poor excuse for a pizza. Imagine a first grader drawing a picture of a pizza. That's what it looked like. Now imagine a pizza made by a third grader. That's what it tasted like. They have an advertisement in the elevator with a guy elegantly hand-tossing a pizza. Haha. What a joke. Sorry, I know I'm not being nice, but it is disappointing when a pizza is priced at $19 (for a 12 inch) and it turns out to be terrible. We're staying at the hotel & thought it'd be easy to do dinner close by. It was quite busy & we had a little wait (but got seated sooner than most bigger groups since we were only two people). Each staff member was very nice (albeit very busy, as it was a little short staffed). We got our drinks quickly and got our food with not too much of a wait. We ordered the salmon, the halibut sandwich, the minestrone soup, and a pitcher of one of their draft beers. Everything was absolutely delicious! We made sure to let the manager know how well the team was doing, even with a few parties of difficult guests & being understaffed. Great job & great food! read more

We ate here on our last night in Alaska and were quite disappointed. The burger I ordered came with the bun burnt black and not eatable. My husband ordered the fried chicken sandwich which was basically batter fried crisp with very little meat to it. They did offer to redo the burnt bun which I passed on. We ate at Fletcher's several times during our stay at the Hotel Captain Cook. There is always a line so carry out or room service are good options. This restaurant has an unhinged manager. It does not matter if your food is good when the management can not manage . Unfortunately the staff is struggling due to management. I can only speak to this as a room service meal. The food was fast. They say to expect 30-45 minutes but they were up in under 20 minutes. That was nice. The artichoke dip was creamy and cheesy. Very tasty. The salads were chopped lettuce. It was actually really nice that I didn't have to wrangle iceberg sized lettuce leaves for once. Could have gone for a bit more toppings. The cheese and bacon seemed scarce. The toasted bread in the side was good add-on. Wish they had included butter. Great experience overall. We had decided to meet some friends downtown at the CAPT Cook. The plan was to have dinner and then check out the gingerbread houses and other Christmas festivities downtown We met downtown and in-spite of the mayor stating parking was free we were quickly informed that wasn't the case. Pay up or risk a 60 dollar ticket at least in the lot next to the Capt Cook. The women in our group chose to go to a flower boutique to look for Christmas wreaths while I checked in with the hostess. The place was rather busy and with my considerable girth standing in the hall next to the elevators was uncomfortable for all concerned but the lack of reservation system and lack of concern by the hostess meant stand there or lose your place when your table becomes available Finally a seat became available and I perched myself atop a stool and watched as a group on senior citizens become increasingly intoxicated as well as a couple of native fellows downing shots of Rich and Rare. I sipped some single malt as I considered the menu which had changed considerably since I had last been there. The women folk had not arrived yet so I opted for a bowl of chowder. The chowder was very good. The temperature and texture was just right. You could tell it was homemade by the way the potatoes and other vegetables were cut. It also seemed as if it had been made that day. I was wholly impressed and looking forward to the rest of the meal. But that is where all of the positives ended. The woman arrived and settled in. The waitress brought us over a bread board with small loves of dark bread and butter. Being the imposing 450 lb "King of Fried Butter" one would think that more than a meager teaspoon of butter would have been provided (see the picture) but that's what we got. They no longer provide the Balsamic and olive oil as they have done in the past. When it was time to order, I opted for the blackboard special. Usually establishments of fine dining offer blackboard specials based upon what is freshest at the market that day. That certainly was not the case here, the special was halibut and chips for 32.00 which isn't really a deal around here, but this dish isn't a normal menu item for Fletcher's. The plate came out as I expect, but oddly enough a big bare spot on the right as if something had been there and then was removed. The portion size seemed about right though. The fish breading was what I would describe as gummy. What breading was crunchy was also greasy. The tartar sauce was obviously homemade but had a decent flavor to it. The fish itself once you removed the breading was old stale freezer burned. Obviously the Fletcher blackboard specials are what is found at the bottom of the freezer I suffered through it and even my friend who swears by Fletcher's agreed something was very wrong with this fish. I wish the story had ended there We started our stroll past the gingerbread houses where I couldn't help but steal a piece for a snack and then continued to stroll on through downtown The fish started its assault on my gastrointestinal tract. As I began to feel the rumbles and pain I picked up my pace and started looking for a bathroom. I was near the old LIO building but avoided it since it's full of coppers now I set my sights on Town Square Park as I knew there was a trash can close by and hopefully the portojohn was still there. I quickened my step even more as the heart burn appeared and the metallic taste came to my mouth. My girth began to sway too and fro due to Newtons second law of motion as I moved at lighting speed. That is until i hit an icy patch in front of the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts. I fell and proceeded to skid about 200 yards until i collided head long into a Snow Bank. The collision unleashed a wave of horror from borh ends of the spectrum if you know what I mean. Due to the noises my gastrointestinal tract was making and the shock wave of my collision with snow bank; a couple of homeless fellows sitting in the park thought the next big quake was upon them. Unfortunately only my sphincter was quaking at that moment and it was unleashing a fiery torrent of Magma that rivaled anything Bogoslof Volcano has produced. Soon the torment stopped and I rolled over in the snow looking and smelling like a beached whale when a fellow wandered over. I've been to this bistro several times. On this occasion they were kind enough to seat three of us just for drinks after dinner at another establishment. The service was fine but the server was not well informed on the scotch whiskey selection and it took some time to find a list which appeared to be very incomplete or out of date. Nevertheless we were able to find something suitable on the list and we enjoyed our drinks. I'm still baffled as to why this place is called Fletcher's. They say it is after Fletcher Christian, the infamous mutiny leader on the HMS Bounty. But he has nothing to do with James Cook, after whom the hotel is named. read more

Mediocre tap selection, WHY DOES NO ONE IN ANCHORAGE HAVE ANCHORAGE BREWING ON TAP?! Also, overpriced. I know this is a hotel bar but...$6? Seriously? In some places in Portland I can get a pitcher of IPA for that much! Food was decent, but tiny. $30 for an insultingly small sliver of halibut, with no sides. I wanted to order a cheeseburger for dessert, but instead I went to bed hangry. Service was completely disorganized. Do you like walking into a restaurant and awkwardly standing around while people occasionally whisk by you, ignoring your presence? Do you want to feel like Bruce Willis in the Sixth Sense? You should probably try this place then. For everyone else, there are much better places to go in this price range: Sack's, Glacier Brew House, etc. I suppose if you're staying in the hotel and hate walking, this place will do the job. read more
