Great service friendly very clean fast service quick service amazing service and food

Ambiance is basic, feels more like takeout. We were greeted in Portuguese. I asked for water no ice, first got a glass of ice, finally got tap instead of bottled... still ice. Can't fight it. The waitress talked me down from a full size platter to half size... then said we would like their soup? umm... unclear on what you're selling... but I'll go with the half sized (for one person that is the right amount). Next they brought out bread. Didn't seem fresh baked. I tried the bbq sauce (yellow dispenser) and hot sauce (red), both "meh" flavor, doubt either is homemade. The main course: I ordered cubed chicken. Indeed, the half platter can feed a whole family. But it came with other ingredients not listed on menu. The rice has carrots and peas, also not listed. Sauce was good at least, brown and... well a bit oily and salty though. "Seems like instant rice?" was feedback I heard. Lesson to restaurant: the amount of things that you learn only by receiving your food should be zero. Put everything up front. My stars are coming elsewhere with me. read more

Wow, what an incredible find in a random corner behind a gas station in Flemington! We came to the Santa train nearby and were starving when we got out so we took to Yelp to help us find something yummy to eat and landed here. We were a party of 7 so we had to wait a few minutes for a table since it is a smaller restaurant. But this gave us an opportunity to look at what people were ordering and make the right choice! Here are my two HIGHEST recommendations: get the garlic shrimp with sausage (ask for extra bread) and the half roasted chicken with ribs, get a SMALL side of black beans. The chicken and ribs are enough to feed two people easily, but you truly CAN NOT miss out on these garlic shrimp. I dream of them often and think about taking the one hour drive to Flemington just to get them. The service was also extremely friendly and were not bothered that our kids were playing with Legos on the table and we kept asking for additional orders of things we liked....like the shrimp and sausage. My wife and I stopped here for lunch on the west home from a car show at the 4-H fairgrounds that turned out to be a dud. There are about six tables inside and a few outside. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. There were so many options on the menu, it was hard to decide what to order. My wife went with the pulled pork sandwich which comes with French fries. She said it's the best pulled pork she's had. It's not overly vinegary. I ordered the 1/2 BBQ chicken platter which comes with rice and French fries. The skin was crispy and the meat was so tender, it fell of the bones. When we're in the mood for BBQ, this is where we're going. read more

I am currently a Flemington resident and this is my go to takeout spot. I personally love the pork rib combo and basically order it once a month but they have amazing lunch specials and a variety of platters you can order (which are large enough to feed a family of 4). I stopped in for lunch today, after going to the gym. I had the steak sandwich with onion, peppers and cheese, french fries and a fresh squeezed lemonade. Everything was first class! Service was great, the owner is friendly. I didn't get dessert this time, but I will on my next visit. I love finding gems like this. Had been jonesing for some Portuguese BBQ. I was between dr appts and lucky for me, this place was close enough! Got their one of their lunch specials: 2 kebabs of my choosing (beef, chicken, or pork), rice, and french fries for ONLY $10.50!! What a steal! The food was good. I got the beef and the pork. I favored the latter. The fries were perfect. The rice was too wet and tasted too much like celery to me. I HOUSED half of it and took the rest home for dinner. The staff was sooo nice but I do have a gripe about the a few things. This place was not express about anything so if you're in a rush, this is not the place or maybe put in your order before you get there. My food took a long time to come out but also, a lot of the folks who came in with pre-orders still had to wait so just a heads up. They are not quick. And another thing, the parrot. Went here after an appointment at nearby Hunterdon Medical Center for a very earlier dinner. We had Portuguese sausage, Chicken and Beef Ribs . It's a small largely take out place with a few tables in the front. Had seradura for dessert and a good double espresso. It's BYOB, always a plus.Service was friendly and helpful. read more

The price is very good for a half of a chicken with a side of rice and fries. However, the rice is very bland and nothing special. Saw this place driving by and decided to check Yelp and the reviews look good so I turned around and came here for lunch. I had lunch inside. There is limited seating. I'd prefer to take out if I live close by as the people that are ordering are right in the middle of the seating area. Friendly staff running the place. I got the pork ribs with french fries and black beans and everything was very tasty and freshly made. It was a lot of food even though I got a half order so I took half to go. Called in a takeout order on a Saturday night recently. This was my first time trying this restaurant. The food was very good. You have to understand and be prepared for what you're getting. This isn't fancy food and it's also not southern BBQ. It's Portuguese BBQ which is just simple marinated meats cooked over an open flame. We got a half portion of a variety of the entrees and each one was large enough for two meals, if you have an average sized appetite. Each comes with rice and French fries. We were able to substitute beans in place of the fries where we wanted that. However, the amount of beans that they gave us was kinda small. When you order takeout, remember, the fries get soggy. The amount of skirt steak in the entree was ample and it was cooked to order according to our requested doneness. The chicken cubes were very tender but I wasn't the biggest fan of the sauce and veggies that came with it. The beef ribs were cut in the same style as Korean short ribs and they were tasty. The pork cutlet had a delicious and tangy marinade but they were really thin and unfortunately very overcooked and dry. The person who took my order over the phone was very friendly and thorough. When I arrived to pickup the order, the staff were in a great mood and very attentive even though they were super busy. I need to come back to try the BBQ chicken. read more

Great food and terrific service. We always have a satisfying meal at the Flemington BBQ. Their lunch specials are quite reasonable.

***Note for new customers, Portuguese churrascaria is very different from American BBQ and features more seasoned, grilled and sautéed churrasco style meats that are closer to dry rubs or briskets. Don't expect to get sweet BBQ sauce; you won't need it anyway!*** This is going to be a new fave!! FRESH authentic Portuguese food with HUGE portions. We had the half order of chicken cubes and pulled pork and it was phenomenal. Every table in the restaurant was full for a weekend late lunch, but despite the small number of front of house staff, they were on top of *everything*. I have to admit, I've been meaning to try Flemington BBQ for at least a year. Today, I found myself with time to explore and I was hungry. So, I made the U-Turn in the shopping center on 202 and popped in at noon. I admitted to the owner I'm new and he immediately put a small bowl of pork soup in front of me. I loved it so much (this is the Thursday soup) that I ordered a full bowl. Filled with tender pulled pork, veggies, and a thick broth that would make my mother proud. Simply delicious. I asked for a roll. They brought a basket with a heated loaf that was amazing (and not on my diet) but I needed it to clean my bowl. Service was great. A family tree is painted in the wall with each branch holding a picture of other restaurants in the family. This place is warm and inviting. A strong Portuguese heritage throughout. I loved my impromptu lunch so much I know I'm going to return to keep trying the rich menu. PS I got a half rack of pork ribs platter for dinner tonight. Go! Just Go to Flemington. Below average comparatively speaking to the other Portuguese barbecue places in the area. Ordered large lunch for my workers on Saturday barbecue chicken was definitely dried out ordered garlic chicken now I'm no expert usually garlic chicken has that red sauce with garlic. That's absolutely delicious. This crap had some brown gravy on it. That was absolutely disgusting and flavorless --onto Brazilian style steak unbelievably I got two pieces of steak for $30 with rice and fries ordered dollar fries on a couple orders instead of regular never do that. The dollar fries are dried out poker chips, on the positive side the ribs were definitely a decent helping and the rice was very, very good not dried out like getting most Portuguese places, but in general prices were higher than places like Dunellen barbecue and the portions were definitely smaller. They do have seating for few folks if you want to sit inside and order and eat there. Today was take out for me. The staff seem friendly. My decision was based on the waitress recommendation and a good choice it was. When think of BBQ, I think urban. Nothing about Flemington is urban. So the BBQ sauce was ok. Not really my taste but I did not need to turn my face up to it. I got the cube platter. Which was steak, chicken and sausage cut up in little cube pieces with shrimp. Some veggies, rice and fries. So for the $16 you got plenty food. The rice was really good. The steak, and chicken was not dry as I been told. The chicken itself was really juice with flavor. All the meats were cooked well and not bland at all. I did add little pepper only to my platter . The fries were at a nice crisp while hot they were good, do not think they'd be good warmed up. They give you so much I could not get to the half way mark in it. It is tasty and fast filling.. I would try a few other things on the menu. So I will give it another try in the future. read more

On the way home from Vt we were stopped at a light and starving and I looked to my left and saw the sign.......BBQ Churrascuria.......and instantly knew I had to turn around and stop. We didn't realize how large the portions were and ordered 3 dinners for 3 of us. The nice waitress told us that each of what we ordered was to serve 2 but we figured we'd have more to take home! Ordered pork ribs and chicken, pork cubes, and pork cutlets......after starting with the garlic clam appetizer. OMG was everything delicious! I found this place when I was looking for restaurants near me, I work in branchburg. It had good reviews on yelp and decided to give it a try. I had the chicken cubes (home style = which means added shrimp for $1) with veggies and rice. The sauce on it is amazing. The owner Paulo is super friendly. Everything seems freshly cooked and homemade! Reminds me of a dish at home. I really enjoyed it and will be back to try different things on the menu! We bought the spare ribs, the beef ribs, and the chicken as a takeout order. The spare ribs were almost acceptable. The beef ribs and the chicken were dry and tasteless. All the meat appeared as if it had been cooked the day before, and simply reheated before being sold. The French fries, on the other hand, were undercooked and soggy. They were nothing more than the cheapest type of fries you can buy at the supermarket, and badly prepared at that. The rice was tasteless. And to top it all off, the prices are through the roof for the quality of the food and the preparation. The order was placed around 5:30pm, which is the time you'd expect the food to be freshest and just prepared. read more

Tonight was our first time eating here. They were just about to close but that didn't stop the owner, Paulo from welcoming us to enjoy dinner anyway. We started with some amazing soup. Sorry no pictures. It was a bean and ham soup and it was so good that I ordered a quart to take home on the spot. Our appetizer was shrimp with sausage in garlic sauce. Omg. That was to die for. It was gone before pictures could be taken as well. I ordered the beef cubes with shrimp, rice and French fries. Delicious! I couldn't eat 1/4 of it because there was so much. My husband ordered the pork cubes, sausage, rice and French fries. He brought almost half home too. We both loved everything we ordered. They also served warm Portuguese bread. Truly a wonderful experience and we will be making this one of our favorite places to eat. Paulo definitely loves what he does and it shows in his food.
