I love this place. It's March 22nd. Weather is lovely. I'm craving something. No idea what so I come to Sunrise for inspiration. And I find it. I scan the Latin menu. Zero in on the Huevos Mexicano. Eggs mixed with sweet peppers, next to a pile of Mexican rice, and tender black beans. Coffee, of course. Love the store. The hand painted tables are rich colors telling ancient stories of love & life. When they move the tables outside it's worth visiting. The staff are very attentive but I love that the senior cook is right there across the counter, fixing my plate. Whatever I get, I ask for their hot sauce. I walked in starving. Causally driving by Main Street for chicken wrap when I stumbled on Sunrise. I was instantly greeted by the chef and as I gave him my order he quickly went to work. The space was clean, fries were crispy and fresh and the wrapped simple chicken, tomato's, lettuce cheese packed high. The casual ambience and fair pricing will make me go back. What a cute little place! Love the decor. It's so festive and happy! Stopped in for breakfast with my husband. The food is delicious and he thinks the price is good. I had the vegetable omelette. Generous size and loaded with vegetables. I particularly liked the home fries. They were cooked exactly how I like them. My husband had the pancakes deluxe. He said it was great! We both enjoyed the coffee. It was smooth. Would be more than happy to come again. read more

I had the casado con steak ($17) which was served with rice, black beans, salad, plantains, and an egg cooked to my liking (I opted for overeasy). I also got coffee ($2.75) and water to drink (they don't serve tap water, only bottled water which was $1.50). The steak and maduros (plantains) were cooked well, but I think the flavor was pretty lacking overall. We asked for hot sauce, but it didn't really add much flavor or heat to the dish so it was pretty bland. They have a very reasonably priced menu with a large variety of options ranging from traditional American breakfast to full-on Mexican food platters. The ambiance was very casual. Think tiny diner but Mexican-themed. Our server was very efficient and got our orders right, but she didn't come to check on us during our meal until we called her over for the check so it wasn't anything special. I'll still come back and try something else on their menu since it's a very budget friendly option in the heart of Downtown Somerville, but I do hope it's more flavorful next time around. read more

So I've been wanting to try this place for a long time but they close at 5 so it's been hard to. Glad we did because the food was yummy and portions are decent. We ordered huevos rancheros which my older daughter enjoyed. My husband and youngest daughter steak, egg and rice which the really enjoyed. I ordered a burger( special burger ) which had ham and some other items on there it was delicious. Now keep in mind if you come here it's very small and not a lot of tables. Service wasn't all that great but they were also very busy when we came in. They have a fairly large menu selection of American type food and Spanish. I definitely would go with the Spanish food it was good . read more

Unfortunately disappointing. Most restaurants on Main Street in Somerville are wonderful, and it is sad to see when one falls short of those high standards. Even for a luncheon, Sunrise fell short of just average. The restaurant itself smells and feels greasy, but this can most likely be attributed to the small size of the restaurant. The servers were not necessarily rude, just inattentive. They seemed to only check in on our table when they felt like it was convenient to them. Otherwise, they were chatting or watching tv at their leisure. The food took a while to get to us, and the quality did not earn any bonus points when it arrived. The ingredients seemed old and the food was nothing extraordinary. There is no real need to pack leftovers when you finish. The two major upsides of the restaurant is unique decor and homey atmosphere. read more

This is a wonderful restaurant. Their food is always delicious. The tables are very beautiful. And they always check on you.

Nice enough diner directly across from the courthouse. Decor is dated but acceptable. Still using an old TV - no flat-screens here. Run by Latins so they have several Latin American specialties on the menu along with the usual American choices. I stopped in for breakfast and ordered my usual corned beef hash and eggs, toast, hash browns, coffee. All good. Toast was even hot which is often not the case these days. Came to just under $8.00 before the tip. Prices are reasonable - a cheeseburger is $4.25 on the take-out menu. Nothing is over $10.00. I will post a pix of the menu. read more

I decided to try this place out while my son was at a Birthday Party at Yestercade. I figured it was your typical greasy spoon but was pleasantly surprised. Yes, they have the standard diner food but they also have a variety of Latin Cuisine. I just got a cheeseburger and fries and they were very good. The burger was very juicy but not overly greasy. The staff is polite and attentive. I think I found my new favorite place to eat in Somerville. read more

I've always been fond of taking a stroll in Somerville's main st. I'd like to think that if Clark Kent aka Superman lived in New Jersey, he would live in Somerville. There are a lot of eating establishments on main street, but have yet to try most of them. However, I am slowly making a list of places to try. Sunrise Luncheon, at first i thought it was related to Sunrise grease truck on rutgers campus,. however it seems sunrise is simply a popular name. Ambiance: From outside to inside, it was pretty much a change from quaint main street to downtown NYC. The service is pleasant and on the mom and pop side. First impression: The food is not bad, I ordered a turkey blt and the sliced bread they used along with sandwhich in general tasted great. I noticed they had some bigger meals and spanish/latin dishes...dishes that came with beans and rice that looked interesting. I will be taking more strolls in sommerville and checking out places. read more

Found this place by accident and decided to stop in for breakfast. Restaurant is small, but clean and staff was very friendly. Ordered a French Toast short stack with 2 eggs and bacon. Everything was delicious! Bacon was so crispy, eggs cooked perfectly and the French Toast was great (not too thick and not too thin - just right). Will definitely be coming back. read more

OMG! Small does not adequately describe this place. Part of my rating is always the bathroom. It was 18-20 inches wide. The sink was in my lap when I sat and I hit my knee on the plumbing The food. The good: Gallo Pinto The bad: a little dirty. Smells a bit like fry oil (the kitchen is behind the counter). The bathrooms are the smallest bathroom I've ever seen. Seriously. It's worth a trip just to see them. So small that I tried to take a pic for Instagram....and failed. There wasn't enough room to back up and take the pic haha. I only have their gallo pinto. I have tico family and sometimes get a craving. I'm sure the rest of the menu is similar- good but not great. read more

This place doesn't look like much from inside and out! But the food is amazing. The pinto steak is one of my all time favorites alongside the Casado con pollo the plátanos are sweet and delicious as well! I've never been disappointed, some of those hole in the wall restaurants are the best places for food than those big restaurants that disappoint me almost always! This place has been around for a very long time too, which proves their food is good! A small family owned business and they treat it as such. read more

So I inform her the purchase I had paid for was missing items that they charge me for. She informed me that they don't give refunds and it's my loss .. plus the food I did get was overcooked . This place is quite good. Steak burritos are fantastic. Breakfast whenever you want it. They'll probably make whatever you ask for. Sit at the counter in front of the grill. Have passed this place hundreds of times never gone in before today. I wanted some breakfast and my other places were not open yet so I gave it a try. The smell of grease should have made me run. The scrambled eggs were greasy and not light and fluffy. Bacon was fatty and terrible and the home fries which I requested well done were not at all appealing. I was on my way to work around 7am, and needed something to eat, but not a lot of places open at that time. I knew there was a food spot on the corner called Sunrise, so I decided to stop inside when I saw they were open. I went with two eggs scrambled, sausage, and home fries. The elderly man at the register was very friendly, and it all came to $7 with an apple juice included. Not bad in my opinion. The food was definitely on the greasy side, but that's to be expected of small diners like this one. The menu seemed very interesting, so I'm eager to try their lunch items. I ended up going back the next day for the Morning Quesadilla, and it was excellent. Overall, the service was quick both times, and I was able to be in and out. The décor inside definitely could use some updating, but I don't mind it as long as the food speaks for itself. I will update this review once I return to try more items on their menu. read more

I love this place. Excellent food. Crazy cheap. I often tip 40%. Get luncheonette type short order food or get some good homestyle food that'll feel healthy to eat. Order in English or Spanish. Tips: Special soup (as a meal) on Mondays that may not be on menu or special board. Get chicken noodle the other days with your meal (usually free and delicious). Don't wait for a check when you're done, get up and pay at the register. read more
