Best vibes. Praise local independent establishments. Not overpriced. Sweet waitstaff. I don't like live bands-but whatever-I just go home.

What a great place for a relaxing beer or cocktail, breakfast and lunch. Wonderful people. And such a great mom and dad place to enjoy a great meal Food is fresh and cooked to perfection. It's strictly a family run business and a staple in this neck of the woods. My corned beef sandwich was delicious along with the sides. Craig the owner/ bartender is a friendly neighborhood type of bar keeper. I enjoy myself there all the time and enjoy the ambiance of this quaint and friendly establishment. I was there yesterday after an hiking in the area with a friend. I like to visit small businesses and this was a good one. The place is cool, not high class fancy restaurant but cozy and somehow it speaks about tradition and history itself. The owner took care of the order and brought us the food, small talk but good service. We 2 had draft beers, 2 delicious cups of butternut squash soup, 2 burgers that were great and we shared the waffle Fries as side. We paid just $35 and we got out from there happy. I suggest you this place for a casual cozy lunch. Help small business. I will go back. read more

We stopped to grab a bite to eat and were greeted by a friendly server. This is your hole-in-the-wall kind of venue with sticky menus and who knows what on the floors. It's a bar and eatery that clearly attracts locals for its friendliness, affordable prices, and consistent menu. We ordered a sampler of the appetizers, a few burgers and some sweet potato and classic fries. All were tasty and came out quickly. Lots of American food and fried options, as you'd expect. Definitely not a bad choice if that's what you're looking for and you're in the area. read more

Food is typical fried fast food. No free refills on soda. Parking lot unpaved and unwelcoming to anyone with mobility issues.

If I could give a lower review I would. idk how this place has such good reviews. I just left here and was disgusted. First there is this heavy set guy that was our waiter and seemed like we were inconveniencing him. He rushed us to order and ran off. We ordered wings that tasted like rubber. They were obviously microwaved and were tasteless. Then came the burgers that we ordered medium and came out basically burnt. these ppl take no pride in there work and serve low quality food at high prices. And on top of that I killed two flies One on my neck the other on my table.. read more

Went here for lunch when it was empty. Like a lot of the negative reviews state, the older man at the bar was beyond rude and unwelcoming. He clearly needs to retire and take his misery elsewhere. Long story short the service was terrible, food was mediocre, and we won't be going back!!!!!! read more

This place has been here as long as I can remember. It's just your regular ol' dive bar filled with locals and good times. They have a little someone on the menu for everyone, don't be afraid to bring your hungry friends, your PBR loving uncle and your grandma. They have table seating, a good size bar and a few tvs so you don't miss the game. While they have a jukebox they also have space by the fireplace where they host bands from time to time. Don't miss out on this local gem, you can find it right at the top of the hill on rt 202/206. There is a spot waiting for you inside, order a couple of cold beers and a basket of onion rings and you'll find yourself wondering what took you so long to get here. Cheers! read more

Top O'Th' Hill - Friday night dinner - Burgers Near Me - Bridgewater, New Jersey

If you're looking for a dive bar that feels like home, Top O'Th' Hill might be the place for you. Certainly not the fanciest spot around, but the prices are great for that reason and the food is good with an atmosphere that is laid-back with a mix of casual family dining and drinks with friends. Most nights you'll find a crowd of regulars from the neighborhood chatting and enjoying a few drinks. The beer, wine, and liquor selection is American bar standard with a variety of pub staples on the menu - from chicken wings to burgers to fish & chips. It's a big parking lot up the hill behind the restaurant, something you may drive by if you're not paying attention. Inside features rustic decor, like an older family restaurant with wooden tables and chairs and a bar area in plain view. Music performances were happening when we stopped in. If you're seeking out a quick, cheap dish with a few drinks during the night, I'd certainly recommend it for small families and fans of a classic family restaurant. read more

Top O'Th' Hill (or, "TotH") on US Route 202/206 in Bridgewater is a classic dive bar -- with run down decor, spotty service, modest prices -- that provides patrons the casual atmosphere of an 'old-fashioned neighborhood tavern' happens to serve a good selection of tavern favorites in a space best described as decorated in "mid-1970s suburban basement" style. Most nights, TotH is filled with crowds of regulars from the neighborhood -- popping in for a few drinks or a meal comprised of tasty and filling pub staples at a very reasonable price. The beer, wine, and liquor selection offered is comprised of mass-produced brands noteworthy only for their unnoteworthiness. Appetizers and entrees are pub staples that run the gamut from chicken wings to burgers to fish & chips - as well as some more diner-appropriate dishes like meatloaf, steaks, stuffed filet of sole, or pork chops. I've tried the meatloaf platter and the pork chop platter. Both were tasty and filling -- but, let's be honest, this isn't the place for you if you're hoping for a Michelin star or James Beard award winning dining experience. With its worn down furnishings and exterior, very casual ambience and hit-or-miss service, this isn't the sort of establishment you bring friends, romantic interests, or business associates if you're trying to trying to impress them with an upscale meal. Yet, due in large part to its tasty food, consistent quality and modest prices, I'm a fan. read more

NOT OPEN UNTIL 0130. 2 wedding groups drove all the way there for some rude bartender to say the place isn't open.

A group of four of us stopped in on a late Thursday evening. The place was pretty busy and the bartender (owner?) was also our server--the only server. The drinks were great and the food was typical bar food. Everything arrived in a timely manner and we were on our way. read more

Great neighborhood joint and dive bar, six taps of macro brews, $5 pints, free snacks at happy hour and totally respectable meals including a very good meatloaf platter for just $11. Full bar and draft beers Miller light, YuengLing, PBR, Blue moon, Sam Adams and goose Island IPA. Absolutely perfect for adult conversation, quiet even with lots of people happily drinking. Basically you're sitting in the basement of an old suburban house with some, ahhh, deferred maintenance issues lol. But to their credit the bathrooms are like new, not from the 1960s. But driving here, wow, you have to know what you're doing, don't be embarrassed if you miss the dark steep driveway the first pass like I did. read more

First off, the cheeseburger and onion rings were amazing, perfect comfort food I just moved to the area and kept driving by this place. Such a cool spot and had live music, they were fantastic! Perfect dive bar with great food at really good prices! It was busy with lots of locals, so be patient with the servers. Personally I have no problem waiting since it's a small business. Will be back! read more

Don't let the dive bar appearance and lack of website scare you away from this place. Their food is awesome! Got take out tonight. NY Strip, Coconut Shrimp, pierogis, and key lime pie for dessert. Everything was fresh and fantastic. My NY Strip was as good as any I have had in high end steak houses. Support these local guys and order one of your pandemic take out meals from here. I also recommend liking their Facebook page. Everyday they post their specials on there. read more

I visited here on 21 September, meeting a friend of mine as the location was roughly between her in Flanders and I in Matawan. The tavern comes up a little quickly as the driveway is slightly obscured by the surrounding hill, but this place is worth keeping an eye out. We settled in to get drinks and spent awhile catching up, with the waitress giving us plenty of time and not rushing us. I ordered the bacon cheddar burger, which was done perfectly with a lightly toasted bun and the meat and cheese tasting perfectly. My friend and I spent about another hour just catching up after eating and, again, we were given all the time we needed without any rush. The interior is designed to replicate a pub, with exposed ceiling beams, all wood floors, and a large bar. Sitting inside surrounded by the tall trees on the hill, it's easy to imagine oneself in an Irish pub. A local gem. read more

The fish n chips was my go to in this hole in the wall. The bar had some major old school vibes that kind of reminds you of Cheers. I'm rating this solely on the food and the fish n chips was superb, even though I did have to add extra salt to my crispy artisan fries. read more

One of a kind. Hasn't really changed in 40 years Good for a burger and a beer at the bar.!Family owned and friendly read more

The Bridgewater area has changed much over the past few decades. Prior to the building of the Bridgewater Commons (circa 1986?), few outside the area had heard of it. Prior to the '70s, it was a real backwater town. Top of the Hill (however it's spelled), is a very old house with a bar, an old tv, old staff, a bunch of old tables, and a gravel parking lot. But that's just fine for me and others. Good, basic food, a real "neighborhood bar" feel, and live music on Saturday evenings that can be quite good (only caught it a couple of times over the years). My french toast the other day (3 full slices) and a coffee ran $8 with tip. Burgers and whatnot run $4 to $8, generally. Specials daily. Rustic ambiance, homey staff, affordable, basic fare - if that's what you're looking for, you came to the right place. If you want bling, conspicuous consumption, and such, go elsewhere. Oh, and they stayed open through Sandy, despite no power! read more

My first visit to T o't'Hill was just before leaving for university. And now, a half century later, my wife & I look forward to stopping whenever we are passing through. Good, cheap food with fast service. What more could you want from your local tavern? Best spontaneous stop on a road trip I've ever made

Little dive bar/restaurant following Covid precautions. Bartender/waiter was attentive wore a mask and used sanitizer between tables. Food was great at a reasonable price. Hubby got the meatloaf platter for $11 which he completely finished and enjoyed. I had a Swiss burger with mushrooms which was delicious. Everything came out quick and hot. Definitely worth the stop. read more

Talk about a neighborhood hang out. Ok, its not really in a neighborhood per se, but its the perfect "dunno where to go tonight.." restaurant. Its kinda dark and kinda old. There's nothing overly special about it, except for their long history, good view (it IS the top of the hill after all), and good home-style cooking and service. Don't get dressed up. Come hungry, and don't look for healthy or gourmet food. Its bar food. It is family run and owned, and most of the family can be seen at any given time. Get to know Jimmy, the bartender / server / host / etc. There's usually a small spread of snacks when you walk in - you never really know what will be there, but its always something to munch on. Sure, sometimes its odd looking grilled cheese pieces, and sometimes its simply Goldfish crackers.. but its free, so who cares. Specials are on the board daily, and if you want the meatloaf you don't want to show up too late. Its popular. And huge. Actually, most everything served here huge. Jimmy may laugh at you, in fact, if your table has 3 orders of fries coming, due to the amount of potatoes that will soon reach your table. If you can, save some room for dessert. There's a mythical 'fried brownie sundae' listed but I've never seen it. read more

I agree with everything good said by anyone else. Its a perfect neighborhood bar, and I thought places like this didnt exist anymore. Jukebox, live music on Saturdays, and the feeling like you've walked into a good friends home after a long day, and they tell you to sit down and they'll fix you something good to eat. The food is simple-- but good. And they even serve breakfast???? Cheap. Filling. Comfort food. Im home. read more

We are regulars at this neighborhood haunt. It is a great place for sandwiches any time of day or night. Dinners differ night to night, but do try the meatloaf if it isn't sold out.
