This is the second Portuguese Barbecue spot in Flemington that I've tried and I really enjoyed this place! I think I prefer this one. Online ordering is available and was very easy. My takeout order was ready on time. It seems like it's largely a takeout pot but there is seating inside and it's very casual. There was couple enjoying their food with a bottle of wine when I walked in for my takeout order, though. We tried the BBQ chicken with Spanish rice and plantains, the steak with rice and cornbread and the pork ribs with plantains and black beans. We loved the tenderness of the chicken but didn't love the heavy smokey flavor that came along with it. Maybe the Hawaiian chicken will be different? The steak was seasoned really well, very garlicky, but wish it was a little more tender. The pork ribs were very tender and delicious. The rice was perfect and the plantains were amazing. I only wish they gave you a larger portion of the plantains. We also tried the beef empanadas and they were good too. The crust was very crispy. The cornbread side portion was huge, moist and flavorful and had bits of whole corn throughout. The black beans were standard and good. Next time I'll try the steamed veggies with garlic as a side. The business specializes in Portuguese BBQ (which I've never had before), and it is AMAZING. I'm a huge BBQ fan, so this was the unexpected delight I never knew I was missing from my culinary palette. As soon as you step into the restaurant, it smells so tasty and wonderful your mouth will start watering right then and there. They have a wide assortment of items to choose from, like beef ribs, pork ribs, Hawaiian food, salmon, paella... which is not only impressive but also surprising that an establishment like this hasn't taken off into a mega-chain. But I consider this more of like a hidden gem that only exists in the central NJ area. They have three locations at the time of this writing, but I'm sure many more in time! Our appetizer of Chorica (what I knew as Chorizo) is Portuguese sausage, onions & peppers ..tasted great and was a very large portion. We also had a pork Empanada which was very flavorful and not overly greasy. Main included: Pulled Pork sandwich and a 1/2 rack of pork ribs. I love bbq. Mostly Texas style but this place is legit. Hawaiian pork bbq is definitely my favor item on the menu. They had home made pork rinds also which weren't half bad either. Pichana Brazilian steak would be my second favorite. I've tried other "Portuguese bbq" joints in this area but this one is my favorite. I really enjoyed the slightly sweet pork pieces and the mixture of broccoli, green beans and carrots - they were great! After walking in and smelling the awesome smokey BBQ aroma, I was quite disappointed with the lunch that I got. The pork looked awesome spinning around in that grill and on my plate, but we were disappointed that the meat was very tough, with an unbelievable amount of fat and sinew inside. The chicken was a bit better, but it certainly wasn't anything to rave about. You can get chicken like that anywhere. As for the vegetable sides, very basic. Steamed. Come to this place sometimes on my break and it's pretty good. You sorta get to see the kitchen area from where you sit and see the guys cookin the chicken. Has a very latin vibe to the place. Love there meat skewers and really like ordering the skewer combo (two skewers and side for around 12-13 bucks). The ladies working the register are generally friendly. Just don't recommend frozen to fried stuff. Ordered the buffalo chicken twice and once it was frozen inside and the other time it was a little on the cooler side. No idea what to expect here, but I love pork. Got the Pork Chops & amazing. Seared beautifully, cooked perfectly, sauce is spectacular (I mixed the bbq & spicy vinegar, yum). Sides were coleslaw & black beans. Both...I repeat, both were great! Rarely do I find coleslaw that I like (think KFC but not as sweet), and they have it right. Even the black beans are really great, no joke! And no I'm not affiliated with these folks. Oh also, the price seemed a bit high for 2 chops initially. But the sides were each enough to share with 2~4. So $14.99 for a 2 pork chop meal with 2 large sides. Well worth it. If you live here and haven't tried, don't let this place be a miss. We come here at least 2 times a month. Peak hours they are always busy. That is always a good sign. We always order the Hawaiian BBQ pork, pork BBQ ribs and egg rolls or wings. The food always has lots of flavor and the portions are great. My friends at the Mercedes dealer across the street always order lunch here as well. I did notice a bad review which coincidentally came when a new place opened in direct completion with this place. Suspiciously the bad rating mentioned the other place and named people who owned the new place or worked there. Look at the number of reviews they have lol 2. My husband and I got lunch today - he got the brisket, I got the skirt steak sandwich with sides of Cole slaw and plantains. The people on the phone were nice and the place smelled great. However, the brisket was flavorless and tough with an extremely small portion. The slice of skirt steak on the black burned bun was so tough that I couldn't even take a bite into it. Cole slaw was fine, plantains were fine. We had seen good reviews about the quality of the food here- maybe we just had a bad experience but the food was Terrible and it was a waste of money during these hard times. We wish we could get our money back. We wasted our one night out this week here Update: I received a response from them- just asking which location and then absolutely NOTHING after. The lack of customer service about this was enough to make the review stay. We will not be going back. read more

I've passed this restaurant hundreds of times, yet never stopped in. We were looking to order wings for Super Bowl Sunday, and decided to give Pork Chop's BBQ a try. We ordered 90 dry rub wing with blue cheese and hot sauce on the side. The woman who took our order couldn't have been more accommodating, explaining how their wings are prepared... my guys are fussy! We only called a day ( late in the day mind you) before. The wings were ready on time... and honestly... the best wings we've ever had! They were gone in the blink of an eye, and absolutely delicious. As usual, we saw a pig sign and had to turn around. It would be a shame not to. This place really gets a 3.5, but I'm feeling generous today. The spare ribs were perfect--charred on the outside, tender inside. The pulled pork sandwich was a bit sweet due to the sauce, but nothing grisley or funky, which some places have. It was done the way a slow cooked pork ought to be done. Tender, juicy, not reliant on a sauce for inherant flavour. Still, the sauce was not to my liking. It was very sweet. Sweet, smoky, a ketchup base with a touch of molasses. I don't mind that before the beast is cooked, but it's a bit much afterwards. I will admit, however, that the spare ribs were perfect. I believe I already mentioned that, but they really were. It's a Portuguese BBQ place, which means grilling even though both brisket and pulled pork are on the menu. If I lived closer, I would definitely return to try the brisket, as they definitely take their meat seriously here. a side of spare ribs, one pulled pork sandwich, and a pineapple soda set us back $24. The service was sweet. The woman at the counter was very sweet and helpful. If you're in the area, definitely give it a try. It's not southern bbq, but they certainly make good food. This was my first taste of Portuguese BBQ, and I did not know it was a grilling style before I sat down for dinner there last weekend. Housed in a low end strip mall on Rt.31 Northbound, the room was basic and a bit dreary. Still, I was not there for the atmosphere, and dynamite ribs could change my vision. I ordered the Pork Ribs, Corn Bread and Sweet Potato Fries. To drink I tried a Pineapple Soda manufactured in the old country. The 3 Star rank suggests that while everything was solid and tasty, none of it was a knock out win. My small sampling provided a few insights. First, while the ribs were tender and meaty, they lacked a strong flavor. My server suggested using the BBQ sauce in a table rocket even before the food arrived. I was surprised because in my travels through southern BBQ in the USA, there was seldom the need to add more flavor. That said, once squirted, the ribs were a pleasure to eat. Second, the Corn Bread was excellent. I huge chunk of soft, sweet, well textured, corniness covered half the plate. This was some of the best Corn Bread I have eaten. The same was true of the Fries. Fresh cut - the taste dominating even the ribs. Yes. The Sumol Pineapple Soda was unique and refreshing. Bottom Line - While I've had better ribs based on the quality of the pre-grilling rubs and sauces applied earlier in the process, these were still quality meats. I just would not rush back to have them again. Everything else on the plate was compellingly great.
