Great place for a casual & chill dinner. I love their salads, it's fresh tasting & the ginger dressing is amazing. I love that the ingredients are locally sourced. At times, I feel like the pizza's don't have enough toppings (a good part of the pizza sometimes doesn't have any toppings). I wish they had a better beer selection with more variety. I was here for a UYE (Unofficial Yelp Event) back in April meeting up with other Yelpers from MA and NH. I know I'm a bit late in writing this review, but I've been very busy and wanted to get this review done before another UYE this weekend. The Flatbread Company is housed in an old mill building in one large cavernous room with lots of echoing crowd noise complete with bar, table seating, and wood fired oven pizza kitchen. We hung out at the bar until everyone arrived and then we were seated at a long table next to the open kitchen, where we watched the staff make pizzas. The menu is not extensive and offers several varieties of specialty flatbreads (or pizzas), salads, and desserts using organic ingredients. You can order half/half flatbreads too! We ordered several flatbreads so everyone could sample a good variety including: Cheese & Herb: mozzarella & parmesan cheese baked with garlic oil & herbs Jimmy's Free Range Chicken: roasted free range chicken, roasted corn, fresh cilantro tomatoes with green onions, black beans, garlic oil, mozzarella, parmesan & herbs, garnished with sour cream & a lime wedge Coevolution: kalameta olives, fresh rosemary, red onions, goat cheese, mozzarella, & garlic with oven roasted red peppers, cheese & herbs The Amesbury Community Flatbread: caramelized onions, mushrooms, garlic oil, mozzarella, parmesan, & herbs Special Steak: steak, tomatoes, green peppers, red onions, mushrooms, garlic oil, herbs, & mozzarella I sat in the middle of the table and had easy reach of all of the flatbreads ;-) I liked all of the flatbreads, but my favorite flatbreads were the Special Steak and Jimmy's Free Range Chicken, which were very tasty. Most of us got desserts afterwards including Barbara's Homemade Brownies & Gingerbread and Damaris' Chocolate Chip Banana Bread, all served with Annabelle's all natural vanilla or pumpkin ice cream, finished with homemade hot chocolate sauce and whipped cream. I had the Gingerbread with Pumpkin Ice Cream, which was fantastic! The service was quick after placing kitchen orders, but at times it took a while to get refills on drinks since the place was very busy. After we were finished eating, Jeffrey H. gave us the hook up with lots of cool Yelp schwag including Yelp Elite 08 hoodies, which we donned for group photos taken by the friendly staff using several cameras. This was a great find for my family as we went the other night for the first time. I am trying to eat healthier and this restaurant uses only natural and organic ingredients. I found the menu to be easy to understand and the atmosphere very calm and relaxing. The pizza oven, with its orange glowing fire is beautiful and the speed with which pizzas cook is amazing. I had a small Amesbury Community Flatbread - Our wood-fired cauldron tomato sauce, organic caramelized onions, organic mushrooms, premium whole milk mozzarella and imported Parmesan cheese baked on organic bread dough with homemade garlic oil, sprinkled with our own blend of organic herbs at $11.25 My mother and my daughter had a large cheese pizza which was also very good. My mother and I also shared a salad consisting of the following: Organic mesclun and organic sweet leaf lettuces tossed with organic celery and carrots, toasted sesame seeds, Maine sea kelp and our homemade ginger-tamari vinaigrette. Good pizza in Massachusetts? That's what I said when my friend suggested we stop for pizza at Flatbread Co in Amesbury, MA during Paul's New England Domination Tour '09. Himself being a transplanted SoCal native, he assured me they're very good. Still skeptical about getting a good pie in the land of chowdah, I figured what the heck, let's give it a go. I could always grab a lobster or something if it wasn't up to par. For the uninitiated, Amesbury is one of those quaint little New England towns, the kind you'd see in a state tourist board ad. Little bit of a culture shock for a SoCal native, and I'm sure the people of Amesbury were thinking the same thing when they saw me. But no matter. Flatbread Co. is located in the heart of town, in an old mill complex next to a river. It's in a very picturesque location; old brick buildings, water flowing through aqueducts, all that stuff. It was also freakin' cold - let's get inside and pick up the pie. Since they had our order ready by the time we arrived, I didn't get much time to examine the decor. But from what I observed and from what my friend told me, they pride themselves on freshness and organic ingredients. Indeed, a chalkboard in one corner lists their ingredients, and what farm and part of the country it comes from. Very cool on their part, since I appreciate any restaurant that gets their ingredients from small, independent operations. They also have a huge brick oven taking up space in part of the restaurant, which I presume helps give the pizza crust its chewy-crunchy goodness. Not your average or traditional flat crust round pizza. I visited 2 months ago and still can't quit thinking about it. I have had NY style pizza a few times since and nothing is hitting the mark. So flavorful and fresh. I was a little apprehensive of the menu when we sat down but I was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere was great. Service was good. Out server was attentive and friendly. One of the pizzas we had was a take on chicken bacon ranch. There is only one word for it! WOW! The chicken was so flavorful. I might be a little bias because I grew up surfing with some of the guys from Flatbreads. Super conscious ingredient selections and comfy community vibes. I've been eating at this location since they opened. Likewise, had the pleasure of visiting some of their other locations in Hampton, NH, Portland, ME and even the one in Maui. I'm a fan of the pork but by vegan uncle always leaves satisfied when he joins me. It's a chill family vibe. Yes, a bit more expensive then your typical pizza joint but FB is far from typical. They do cut their flatbreads (pizza) funny but I'm one of those weird fork and knife pizza eaters so it never bothered me. Nice little beer and wine selection. read more

Oh Flatbread, I love you. Too bad the closest one to my house is in Somerville and is INSANE with new business since it just opened. Going to the Amesbury location was a refreshing change of pace. This Flatbread is deceptively big but not crowded or frenzied with people. We arrived for lunch after apple picking at Cider Hill Farm (highly recommend) with a party of 11. I called ahead and we were seated right away. The service was friendly, fast, and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was awesome, Flatbread is rustic and cool, and the wood fired oven in the center of the restaurant is amazing to watch. The food is fresh, local, and fairly priced. Parking is kind of a pain and the place is kind of hard to find if you don't read the signs around the whole brick complex. Even still, I would come back here anytime! read more

Have you ever waited over 1.5 hours for a pizza? We did last night. I have been to many flatbread pizza locations, last night was the first at this location and likely our last. We arrived and waited a good 5 minutes before even being acknowledged at the hostess desk (despite many worked walking past us). A sign I should have noticed but was so excited for the pizza I looked past it. We were seated rather quickly and I had hoped our experience would get better from there but it never did. We ordered pizza with our drinks in hopes that would make things efficient. Our drinks arrived quick but after an hour of not seeing our server we started to wonder if we were forgotten. It was busy and it was a Friday so we didn't think too much but at the 1.5 mark we flagged our server down and asked what was up. Her response. "It's the weekend". We asked if over an hour was a normal wait time for pizza and were told" yup". No apology or acknowledgment. When our food finally arrived I ordered a glass of wine and some water to have while eating but It never arrived. Pizza was good but experience (even in covid times) was disappointing. read more

What a great find in the little town of Amesury, Massachusetts. A delightful twist on the pizza idea, organic ingredients on a hand thrown flatbread crust, fired in a giant wood burning stove before your eyes. Some reviews say this is a chain, I don't know if this is true as the place has loads of character, and our waitress (C..) was very nice. As an unapologetic bread lover, I don't know what took me so long to get here given that I already love their frozen offerings that can be purchased at Whole Foods. Of course fresh is even better! Three of us hit here after building up an appetite from a morning of rock climbing at MetroRock in Newburyport. All three of us forgot our cell phones, which is really odd considering two of the three are CrackBerry addicts, and we had no idea where this place was except that it was somewhere in downtown Amesbury. So off we went, without the benefit of calling for directions, we hoped to spot it from the street. This plan would have been doomed to failure had we not decided to stop at a gas station on Elm Street to ask where Flatbread Restaurant is located. "Drive into downtown and look for an arch. It's inside the archway. Look for parking once you see the arch." Bingo! Those directions were perfect. I won't rehash a lot of what has been said already. But the atmosphere is really neat, with the wood fired brick oven a really neat centerpiece. It felt like such an authentic and genuine eating experience watching the pizza cook constantly feed the oven with wood. Add all organic ingredients and support from local farms to the mix, and this place is pretty much my ideal kind of eating establishment. Yes, it's a bit more expensive than the Papa Ginos down the street, but I feel the ingredients are worth it. Check out the pictures that have already been uploaded because they are a great representation of what you'll get. The server says that the large pizza "serves two" but we found it sufficient for the three of us, including the salads that we got to start. Everyone was a big fan of the salads and the the Vegetarian Flatblead (one of the daily specials) we ordered. I wish we had room to try dessert! read more

These days, it's hard to find a place that serves a unique pizza. But I think this place is one of them. They don't charge you for half and half pizzas. So we ordered tow small pizzas, basically 4 different tastes. Their day's special was a pizza with mashed potato and leak! That was my first of such a kind and I liked it. I also ordered buffalo chicken topping (again one of that day's specials) and loved it. They use organic and local ingredients, which is great and I hope other restaurants try this as much as they can. read more

The bread crust was well worth the trip it's not your ordinary pizza we ordered the pepperoni it was large and tasted fresh cut and a cheese which had a nice not over whelming amount of Italian seasoning the atmosphere was worth the trip I mean isn't that what you pay for and the call ahead worked out perfectly. I would gladly drive two hours just to eat here. In fact, one of the reasons I have plans to move to the area in the somewhat near future is because of food like this. The reviews of this place is consistent with my experience. It's both date night and kid friendly, which is sort of difficult to pull off, but they do. The food is so good I was not bothered by the toddler at the table next to us who sang loudly during most of our meal. This is saying a lot. We ordered the salad with blue cheese, and it was incredible. I cannot put my finger on all the reasons why, obviously it was incredibly fresh, but it was also perfectly balanced and the ratio of all the "shtuff" was on point. For dinner, we had the "Mopsy's Kalua Pork Pie" I had to stink-eye my boyfriend not to eat the whole thing so I could have lunch for the next day-- so I could replicate the mouthgasam I experienced during dinner. I ordered the Mai Tai, which provided the perfect marriage between sweet and sour. I will be back here, most probably multiple times a month from now on. read more

One of our favorite spots! There are other flat breads in the area (Georgetown, previously Hampton) but the Amesbury location is the BEST. It's always busy, well on the weekends anyway.. so be prepared to wait! They have a great draft beer selection, tons of craft beers and local choices. The restaurant seating is tight and it can be noisy, so if your looking for a quiet pizza shop, look elsewhere. However we love the atmosphere, the "open kitchen" concept with the wood-burning pizza oven front and center. We also love that a lot of employees are on the younger side and it's really neat to see younger adults help run such a successful restaurant. We usually just dive straight into the pizza, we ALWAYS get the chicken bacon ranch. I promise that their ranch dressing will be the best ranch dressing you'll ever try. Then we'll always switch up what we want on the other half of our pizza depending on our mood and what's being offered for specials. They are very accommodating with special requests, all of their ingredients are fresh, local and organic. If you save room for dessert, Id recommend giving their dessert a try as well!
