very tasty, natural and organic where they can fit it in. the sausage they use has a slight maple syrup flavor which makes it quite addictive. there's only one app and it's a salad with seaweed and optional goat cheese. it's quite yummy in it's simplicity. i'm pretty much a minimalist when it comes to pizza so for me it's a large Jae's Heart, half sausage/mushroom, well done. they also have Wachusett's Blueberry Ale which is so much better on tap than in the bottle. they also have some of the hottest waitresses/hostesses in the area. read more

New name, same great taste. Goat cheese, kalamata olives, carmelized onion. Yum. There's only one salad and only one dressing, which irked my uninitiated boyfriend, who REALLY wanted ranch. But after some gentle persuasion on my end and grumbling on his, he tasted it and realized that it was delicious, just the way it was. They changed the name of their dressing, which made me nervous. Berry vinaigrette? What happened to the ginger tamari whatever it was? Fear struck into my heart. Our very sweet young waitress assured me it was the same recipe, but I didn't fully believe here until I tasted it. I love their philosophy. Fresh, local, organic food. What a good idea. They will wrap up any leftovers into a foil swan for you, which is a very fancy touch I thought only happened at chi-chi restaurants in the movies. Flatbread is uber popular in amesbury. I remember when they first opened. This was the first place in amesbury where there was a wait to be seated for dinner. The first place Newburyporters actually journeyed across the river for. It's still excellent. They have expanded the space and the hours and the menu (a little) in the last couple years. Great pizza, very fresh, and it is fun to watch them make it in front of you in the brick oven. I love the Jay's Hart. A large pizza is big enough for 2 people with big appetites and 3 people with medium appetites. The organic salad with it's ginger dressing was way too tart for me and I would not order it again as I don't think it is work $6.50 (add $2.00 if you want goat cheese or blue cheese). The only reason I did order salad is that I need to usually have some greens with pizza to offset the cheese and oil. The salad is really the only reason I'm giving it 3 stars as opposed to 4 stars I wish they had more salad options and not just this particular salad as a base with additional veggies that cost extra. Waiter was attentive. This would be a good place to take friends or a big group. Nice park with waterfall right outside the restaurant and outdoor seating is available. read more

I am a huge fan of the Flatbread Co chain. In fact, it is one of the very few chains that I will endorse. This location is no different, which is great to know that the locations are all pretty consistent. The pizza at this flatbread is no different then the one I've been to in N. Conway, but if you haven't been to any of the other locations than you should know that their pizza is AWESOME. Their sauce is fresh and tangy, the crust has a perfect chewy to crispy ratio, and all of the ingredients they use are locally sourced and extremely tasty. I highly recommend that you go with the Community flatbread and add a meat (if you are a carnivore). I prefer their sausage, which is absolutely amazing and I don't ever order sausage on pizzas, so that's saying something. The caramelized onions and mushrooms are the finishing touch to an already perfect pie. The atmosphere is earthy and casual. They have a great bar including a good local craft beer selection and delicious cocktails. My friend was not a fan of her wine and they took it back with only a slight grumble (and no charge). We both enjoyed their crazy-good citrus margaritas and I a Tuckerman's Pale Ale to finish off our meal. Service was pretty good and she appeared to be attentive but not pushy. Prices aren't too shabby and well, I will certainly be back again because I love their food so much. The Amesbury location is cool also because of the location. It is in an old mill building and their is a huge parking lot and an awesome waterfall/river running near the building. We got a gift card here and decided to give it a try. I am always happy when you can see your food made in front of you, especially in a huge oven in the center back of the place. We went at very off hours---it was like lunchtime on a Thursday and naturally at that hour there's no one there. But I have heard that the place gets busy so plan ahead. It's hard to find at first, but once you spot it you are taken by the awesome decor and the friendliness of the staff. The bathrooms are small but have a lot of character too which is always a plus. I like character, I mean who wants to go to a place and not have anything to look at or converse about? We got a veggie pizza and it was wonderful. Made right in front of us and worth the wait. For dessert we had this great chocolate chip banana bread! I think if given the chance I would stop in just for that. Flatbread is incredible! I've been coming here since I was in high school when this location opened in the late 90's. It was great then and it's only gotten better with time! Here are some of their high points for great dining experience: ATMOSPHERE- This is a truly beautiful spot for a restaurant located within an old 1800's mill building. The exposed brick and wood beams give it such a rustic and old school vibe. The wood fired stone oven is awesome! It adds such a nice ambiance. FOOD- It's delicious!! I've never had a flatbread here that I didn't enjoy. Everything is always so fresh and cooked to perfection. So good! While it's not exactly mandatory to me that I eat organic and 100% natural foods, I do love that they use ingredients that are. My favorite flatbread here is the Mopsy's Kahlua Pork Pie...a delicious combination of slow cooked pulled pork, pineapple, red onions, on top of a slightly spicy BBQ sauce. It tastes like heaven! SERVICE- Everyone here is extremely pleasant and happy to serve you. It looks like they truly love their jobs which is a great sign that the business is being managed by great people. MENU- It's so simple and basic. They have salads and flatbread pizza. They stick to what they know and they know how to make it incredible. They have a couple different specials each day which the waitstaff will explain before you order. They will definitely customize any of their flatbreads to how you want them so feel free to ask for something that you might want. Next time you're in Amesbury give Flatbread a try! Been here twice. Once by accident and once by request. A great space, friendly helpful waitstaff, and an open kitchen that attracts attention. This is not a bunch of high schoolers flipping pizza dough to bad rock music. Serious kitchen staff crafting artisanal pizzas with great ingredients. This is a very tasty small chain of pizza parlors. I have been to the one here in Amesbury (which I think was the first) and the one in Portsmouth, NH (which out of the two, Portsmouth was bigger.) I enjoy both. I recently went to the Amesbury one so here is my thoughts on it: Wait: Forever. Or so it seems, we were having dinner with family friends who arrived about a half hour earlier than us and they were told a hour wait. So when we got there at about forty five minutes after they reserved and we waited an hour, we got a little annoyed. You know, it wouldn't be an issue if they just up front said "Oh, the wait will be an hour and a half" that would be fine. But the thing was he wad to smaller kids (Ages one and two and a half) who got a bit antsy. Anyway, now onto the stuff that matters. Food: Excellent. If you come here and don't get a pizza then I hope you go home and ask what the hell is wrong with yourself. Pizza is of course their specialty (thus the name "Flatbread") and it is very very good. I've had both the Pepperoni and the Italian herbs pizza and they were both tasty and thin but just thin enough to perfection. The pepperoni is not the kind you would buy at a store, it is the actual unprocessed kind that is actually pretty darn good. The Amesbury location was a bit noisy but it added to the ambience of the place. The silent conversations and the flame of the oven just makes it feel....awesome for lack of a better word. I like the little waiting place/lounge thingy downstairs, it feels like one of those speakeasy bars from the twenties. I would strongly recommend a visit here or to any other locations of theirs, on one exception, if you are impatient, don't bother coming. Went here for the first time on Saturday. Atmosphere/staff/food was great. They send you a text when your table is ready so very modern. Not a long wait. Plenty of beers on tap. Our server recommended a red sauce pizza and we added sausage and I was blown away. It was seasoned extremely well and I couldn't get enough. A manger walked around to check on people regularly which was nice because our cookie dessert got overdone and she comped it from our bill. read more

This is by far my all-time favorite restaurant! I've been coming here for years (yikes- like over 7 years!). It's true, they are now more crowded since they expanded and install big booths to encourage more families to come- but most good restaurants are crowded- so it's no surprise that this place has blossomed over the years. The ambiance is terrific- you can sit at picnic tables outdoors if the weather's nice, or sit inside and watch the hippie cooks make your order from scratch in a giant hand-made oven. The place had a very rustic being inside an old mill building and with big painted canvas sheets of artwork about their ingredients all over the walls. The menu covers are all different pictures drawn by local school kids. The pizza varieties are amazing with lots of fresh, local, free-range ingredients- they always have a meat AND a vegetarian special (so nice that they think of us vegetarians!)- but you seriously can't go wrong with a basic 'Jay's Heart' (just amazingly good cheese and sweet delicious sauce on their amazing flatbread dough) or the basic 'white' pizza with no red sauce, just cheese, and oil and garlic and such..... mmmmm.... just writing about the food makes me crave it! The salad is good- but honestly, I usually skip it so I can stuff myself full of the amazing pizza and have a little room left for dessert! I often can't pick which dessert to get, so I convince whomever I'm with to get one and I get one and split it with them. I will say, that the portions of the dessert have shrunken considerably over time, and they try to make up for it with another scoop of icecream (LAME) but the quality is still great, so I'm not going to dock them for that this time. ;) The original brownie a la mode and the spice cake with pumpkin ice cream are the best- you can skip the banana chocolate chip loaf thing- reminds me of something from Starbucks. The service has always been good here. Yes, it's very crowded on the weekends- so I suggest you pick a quiet weeknight or a lunch hour for your first visit so you can soak it all in. Was extremely surprised to find this place had been in Amesbury for 10 years. But on yet another aimless Sunday drive throughout Northern Essex County and So. NH, we found ourselves looking, once again, for the "perfect pizza". Not old school, like NY or North End or Ron Jillian's, but not bad. Not bad at all. With the focus on organic ingredients this stuff almost tasted healthy. I mean, we had a large Jimmy's Free Range and never found ourselves feeling full (yes we brought some home). The salad with goat cheese from a farm in Topsfield, MA was superb. She really like the seaweed topping on the salad. As stated by other yelpers, it's an incredible family friendly atmosphere (SUPER KID friendly) as well as fairly hip. Our bartender seemed to be a bit stressed at first but the second we asked her a question about the place, she almost suddenly became very helpful and totally attentive. She was absolutely great! Also, as previously stated it's a bit hard to find. It is right in down town Amesbury, but not right out in the open. Instead it's stuffed into a old mill courtyard type of enclave with one of the coolest, pure New England waterfalls you'd ever want to, or are likely see in an urban setting. It's only yards from the restaurant but not immediately visible, however we had no problem hearing the winter melt rushing through. I'm really looking forward to trying their Hawaii store. Had lunch here with a friend a few weeks ago. It was really good. Loved the variety of uniques pizza choices! The pizza was thin, crisp and NOT greasy (huge for me as I typically stay away from pizza for this reason) It was a little hard to find, kind of tucked away. Chicken bacon ranch pizza, I was reluctant to try something with ranch on the name especially on a pizza. My daughter insisted and I have never ordered anything but that ever again.
