We had a Cumulus Sweet Deals for Flat River Tavern & we thought we'd never been there before. We were both right & wrong at the same time! It was something else before (we visited for RI Food Fights #LordOfTheWings some years ago) but the establishment is under new management with a revamped menu. As a wife of a veteran, it is always wonderful to support a veteran-owned business. They wear their service on their proverbial sleeves. Everywhere you look, there is a tribute to our heroes. Hubby is a fan of meat on meat on meat pizza so we ordered the Cardiac Special - pepperoni, sausage, meatball, bacon & ham. There was a good amount of meat, pizza held up to the weight of the toppings & it was very tasty. I was in the mood for chicken strips & we ordered Garlic Parmesan & Nashville Hot. For former was nice & garlicky, the latter was spicy but not killer. Large juicy pieces of chicken that were lightly breaded. I want more! That evening, Flat River Tavern was hosting music bingo. The dude running it came up to us as we sat down to invite us to play. We weren't interested but it was fun to listen to the music for the game. Flat Service, and a River of disappointment. I had high hopes as my brother had mentioned he had been here a few times and really enjoyed it Went here after watching a game with my father in Saturday. He is 82, and I'm no spring chicken either. The place was moderately busy, but definitely not packed. We found seats at the bar right away and sat down. We were immediately treated (assaulted?) to the sounds of a warbling guitarist on furlough from a nearby assisted living, dutifully plucking out misaligned chords along with a voice that would make RFK Jr. sound like Pavarotti's protege. She worked through several tunes from her hippie-esque youth, which seemed a a stark contrast to the overblown MAGA-licious decor of the place. Dad and I sat at the bar, ignored for several minutes while we watched the young woman bartender chat with and serve several other guests. This included people who had already been served drinks and meals. No "hello". No "I'll be right with you", just chatting and chatting and chatting with two guys halfway down the bar and pouring beers for the folks who still had what was left of their first (fifth?) beer in front of them. It was then that we saw another man behind the bar walking towards us. And I thought, "oh, this must be his part of the bar, then. Surely he'll greet us and pour us a beer." NOPE. The guy gets to about three feet from us at the bar and turns away from us to face the wall, remote in his hand. He's not a server, he's the 'change-the-channel' guy. A task he performed with all the skill and charisma of a WalMart greater on work release. That's it for me. I'm 10 minutes in and no one has even acknowledged that we were at the bar. I tell Dad we're heading and we both stand up to put on our coats. The grinding sound of the chairs sliding back across the sticky floor must have inspired the lone remaining customer service neuron in the Flirty McTownie's bartender brain because as I was putting on my coat she managed to slog her self over to where we were to ask "Hey guys, can I get you something?" "We're all set" was pretty much the only response I could muster that wouldn't have included a torrent of curses and insinuations regarding questionable parentage. We left Honestly, unless there's no other choice, drive the extra 6 minutes into town. There are much better bars and restaurants with much better service, Old Theater Diner or Black Oak among them. Frankly, you'd probably get better service at the hot counter at Dave's... Probably better pizza too... Though we wouldn't know. read more

My son and I looked forward to karaoke at Flat River Tavern every week. The DJ always did a phenomenal job -- their energy and music made it so enjoyable, and people often told us how much joy they got from hearing my son sing. We supported the business regularly by spending money, bringing friends, and even planning to book a party here. We always came with friends, family, ordered food, and spent good money to support this place. But now, after one complaint, a new rule says only people 16+ can sing. The DJ even argued against it, but sadly the rule was enforced. That means my son, who never caused a problem, and who truly brought joy to others, is no longer welcome on the stage This feels unfair, discriminatory, and disheartening, especially since my son was usually the only child singing and he always added to the atmosphere. Because of this, we will no longer be bringing guests or planning events here. It's very disappointing to feel excluded after being such loyal customers. They have lost my families business and I will be letting others know how unfair this rule is due to one complaint that "I had to wait for a kid to sing before I could." Very disappointing and makes this place no longer feel family friendly to me. read more

Family owned business close to Johnson's Pond. We went in on a Wednesday night for dinner, kitchen closes at 9PM, we made it just in time! The place is very clean and the people are very welcoming. There are dart boards and music playing on the nights that there isn't live entertainment. There are three televisions playing sports, keno, and a jukebox. Wieners are very good and fresh. Chicken was juicy and tender with a touch of spice. Drinks were very good. read more

A dear friend of my wife enjoyed taking her son to karaoke every week, and the staff and patrons enjoyed hearing him sing every week. Just recently someone apparently became upset they had to wait their turn to sing after him. They complained to management who then took it upon themselves to no longer allow children to sing. This decision of course greatly upset our friend and her family. She posted on FB her frustration and disappointment, and went so far as to label the restaurant's decision as "discrimination", which it absolutely was. She was then contacted and berated by the owners' family for being "butt-hurt", and that "their tavern was not a place for little ones". They also labeled themselves as "the most patriotic place in America". Last time I checked, America is made of families, which includes "little ones". read more

A decent pizza and friendly people. OK prices. Plenty of parking. Not really a drinker, so I can't speak to the bar, but other things were good. I would go back. read more

Donna and Keith are great people, great atmosphere, great food, great crowd. Service is second to none and prices are very reasonable.

I ate here the other day. It was clean, had parking, and it was easy to find. The waitress was friendly. I ordered blueberry pancakes. Lots of blueberries and the pancakes filled the plate! The corned beef hash was delicious. The only thing I did not care for was plastic utensils and paper plates. However, 2 women veterans run the place. I will give them another try :) read more
