Passed by here on our first day in Seward. The vibe looked funky as Hell on the outside, which I kinda digged. Immediately wanted to go in and try it out, but it was packed. Which I honestly didn't consider since it was toward the end of the season. It just goes to show how good this place was that it was still loaded during this time of the year. Would definitely recommend getting reservations if you want to eat here. We were able to reserve dinner for the next night, and it didn't disappoint. Whatever image that brings up in your mind when you hear Flamingo Lounge, that is the atmosphere you are walking into. We got the Bucket of Butt and the Sourdough Bread Board as well as a couple of drinks. The drinks were top notch, and the Bucket of Butt was some of the best halibut I've ever had in my entire life. If I had one complaint, it's only that there wasn't enough butt in that bucket. If we ever come back to Seward, this is definitely the first place I'll eat at. read more

I was told that this place had a new chef so the food was now "great!" Since I'm in town working and wanted dinner, I stopped in. First, the place looks like1985 retired inside in a good way. The bar in lined in plush red fabric and the photos, decor and chairs all are retro to the max but what did the food taste like? So I ordered the smash burger and roasted mini Yukon gold potatoes with creme and bacon. The burger was kinda charred I guess but still good, the server never asked how I wanted it cooked so that was a HUGE minus, but it wasn't bad just not great, the flavor was good, the veggies were fresh, just not great! The potatoes were the star of the show! They were perfectly seasoned and the creme and bacon sauce was MONEY!! They literally melt in your mouth and were roasted perfectly without being mushy. The service was good, the vibe was super chill. The place is kinda pricey for what you get but that is everything in this little town. I will be back to try some other things eventually. read more

I will start by saying that the ambiance and decor were truly amazing, a very cozy space. Now on to the important thing, to me at least... THE FOOD! Almost everything we got was underwhelming. The halibut chowder was the only thing I really enjoyed and tasted great! I was very excited to try the halibut and fries based on other reviews but everything had no flavor, like they didn't even add a pinch of salt so I was highly disappointed to pay close to $40 for a meal that tasted like nothing. The fries were supposed to have salt, pepper, garlic and definitely didn't have either of the three. The fried pickles were OK, the duck drumsticks had a strong meat flavor & gave me the ick. I would not come back here for the food.. we didn't have a drink but it seems more like a cocktail lounge than a place you should go to for food. Literally stumbled upon this place while exploring their downtown area. Would've eaten there then, but they were completely full so made reservations for the next night. So glad we did! Feels like you're stepping back in time, and I am here for that. Such a classic vibe, and the menu reflected that. Let me tell you - the Bucket of Butt is the way to go. These chunks of halibut were perfectly cooked and so freaking delicious. And their tartar sauce was just a bonus. Also enjoyed their soughdough bread board - good starter. Nice drink menu. Loved their Pink Pony Club Marg. It's definitely busy here, so it is a bit louder. Service was good. Make reservations. If you want to eat here, it's your best bet of getting a table. Ah yes, The Flamingo Lounge. This has been on my must visit for a few years and this summer was finally my opportunity to try it! I thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance and decor of the restaurant but I am disappointed to say that the menu wasn't as exciting as I had hoped. I ordered the Tanner crab and it was good but the mushrooms on the side were under seasoned and the stuffed dates were burned. Service could have been better as well. I cant believe my first time having bone marrow was in Alaska. The drinks were fantastic, but the bone marrow dish was unlike anything I've ever had before. I pretty much ate this entire dish alone. My friend was really nervous to try the dish and after enough convincing, I got them to try it, they liked it! It truly is a culinary experience. On our first day in Seward, Alaska, we were told by the lodge front desk that we gotta check out Flamingo Lounge for their drinks and food before we left Seward. Since we were highly suggestible, we went there for dinner. It was a full house at the restaurant and we almost got turned away. Lucky for us, two seats opened up and we got to sit by the kitchen to watch all the actions! The menu had a lot of choice, but we settled with the 28 dollar sandwich, halibut nuggets, broccolini, brussel sprouts, and tots. We also ordered an old fashioned. Everything was good indeed. Our favorite was the 28 dollar sandwich. It was meaty, juicy, and fulfilling. Our least favorite was the price. We understand the income potential is not great during the winter, but paying LA price in little town Seward hurt our feelings. Overall experience was just ok. We truly enjoyed the food and drink, but the service was lacking. The host had a little attitude but she did her best to find us a seat so we like her. But once we sat down, it took a long time to even get a glass of water. For the most part of our meal, no one really attended us and water was never refilled. At the end of the day, we would still recommend the place since we care about the food more than service, but just be aware. read more

Back visiting in Seward and hadn't tried this place before, and I was intrigued by the menu and pictures of the food so we made this our place for dinner. We are from Anchorage and took the train down here may 26, going on a wildlife cruise tomorrow, then taking the train back. This place had a cool, retro vibe, almost like a tiki bar because of the flamingo theme but not tropical. We got seated in the very back by the kitchen(which is fun to watch) and they were high top tables with round seats with no backs. We were fine with that as we didnt have to wait. We came at around 5:30ish and they open at 5pm, we would have had to wait for a table in the main area. It took 5-10 minutes for our server to come around, and he asked us who was seated first out of the 3 parties so we told him, he said he was blind(wasn't paying attention) For food we got the fried pickles which were cut and breaded like fries and came with a jalapeño aoli. I would have preferred ranch but I never asked because I thought they wouldn't have any. Options are good for sauces especially for those who dont like spicy. It was still a good sauce. We also got the bread and butter board. A warm small loaf of bread with two big smears of butter, one with honey and one with cranberries and nuts. We also got a bucket of halibut butts. You have to order fries seperate it is not fish and chips. The batter on the fish was light like tempura with house made tarter sauce. All of the food looked really good, the halibut po boy, the burger, and the baked potato looked awesome. Drinks too looked good. I got the non alcoholic porch swing which was strawberry syrup and ruhbarb purée. If you are in town and close to the sealife center, I would stop by for food and a drink. What a gem in beautiful downtown Seward :) Each member of the staff was so wonderful and accommodating. The decor and vibes? Immaculate and SO fun We walked in very hungry, so i unfortunately did not get pictures of our food (you know how that can be), but it has been a month since we were there and I have to admit I'm still thinking about the food, notably the Devils on Horseback. Everywhere I go now, if I see dates on the menu I get them and, they are usually delicious, but they make me miss Flamingo Lounge! I would also be remiss not to mention the bucket of butt, I still regret not ordering the larger portion (especially being gluten free!). The drinks were beautiful and fun, I had the Northern Lights (I'm such a sucker for a purple drink). Hands down the best cocktail bar in Alaska. The vibe is perfect - partly eclectic, partly trendy, and partly dive. This is my kinda place. I came in here two nights in a row because it was that good! The first time I was there Spencer was our server and we had a full dinner. Everything he recommended was on point.I am not usually one for fried food, especially fish and chips but I have to say the bucket of butt was so freaking good - I'm still thinking about it!. Who knew fish and chips could be so good? They nailed it. I came back the next night and sat at the bar because I needed to try some of their cocktails. We ordered; $28 sandwich, Bucket of Butts, 2 burgers, 2 Mac n cheese, and Tanner Crab. $28 sandwich was NY Strip cheese steak. Burgers were huge and dry. Reservations are highly recommended as I walked in and had to sit at the bar. The place is not fancy. Even the dipping sauce and ketchup couldn't save it. Unlike other reviewers we had a pretty horrible experience at the flamingo lounge. I had only been here once before for a night cap several years ago but after reading great reviews about their food we decided to give them a shot for Mother's Day dinner since we were in town. Man, I hate to even throw people under the bus but the service was atrocious. I will note we came with our two children (4 and 2) for a Mother's Day dinner after seeing reviews stating it was kid friendly. Surprise? It's not. We placed our first drink and apps order and basically never saw our server again. We watched as he visited every table but ours for multiple rounds of locals (we were in the back corner) and he just completely ghosted us. Another server brought our food and my husband ordered a burger and needed mayo and immediately requested it and it never happened. We waited 15+ minutes after asking the initial food delivery server who wasn't our server, THEN asked our server as he was running past us, nothing. We had to walk to the kitchen ourselves. At that point everyone had eaten their meal before my husband even had a chance to take a bite. It was cold. Our second round of drinks also took a ridiculous amount of time to come, we actually went to the bar looking for our drinks because it had been so long. I expressed my frustration to the server and instead of doing better he just became worse and sent the manager over to us and when he handed us our bill he ran away even though we had our card in hand ready to dash out the door. Thoroughly disappointed with the service (compared to my hopeful and happy first experience). Since the second go around I would say it's: 1) not kid friendly, absolutely no situational awareness from service that after being ghosted from what we needed that our small children were growing increasingly impatient (naturally, as were we) and 2) service on the restaurant side needs to be better, or there needs to be more servers to accommodate the customer Intake. read more

Look for the Showcase Lounge on 4th street! We were in town celebrating our 12th wedding anniversary and had reservations for dinner. It was a Saturday night and the place was packed arm to arm. To get to your seat, suck everything in and pray you don't take down your neighbors drinks. Although kids are allowed, I'd be scared to bring mine. We had parka's on, so it was an interesting time. Our dining neighbors were buzzed and relaxed, so it was good vibes. I sat on a refurbished church pew, (it's been years). The space was so intimate, we could easily hear the conversations around us. It was funny to discover, like us, most of the surrounding diners were there to fill their bellies before the sold out Beers by the Bay fundraiser at the Sea Life Center. For drinks, we ordered the pumpkin ale on tap and a northern lights cocktail. Both strong and cold. For food, we ordered their AK reindeer sausage elote, southern collard greens and smoked ham hocks, ribeye, loaded baked potato, and "just for the halibut," chowder with added bacon. Everything was incredible. The food timing was perfect and empty plates were always promptly cleared. Honorable mention to the collard greens and smoked ham hocks that were perfectly executed. It's a rare dish to find on any menu in Alaskan restaurants. These guys are pretty amazing. Our waitress was quirky and she likely meant well, but she was off putting. Like when I was scanning the menu unsure we were done ordering. She said something a long the lines of "what we had was a lot already." It's kinda like, If I wanted to order this entire menu, I'll do that, you know?! Her service was also spotty. The star for us, was a quiet, super attentive hostess who was constantly cleaning, clearing our plates, and kindly bagged our leftovers. We gave our tip to her. We had an awesome experience at the Flamingo Lounge. It wasn't on our radar initially, as I instantly thought "cheesy Vegas bar", but another upscale restaurant sent us here when they couldn't seat us without a reservation. We barely got seats here, so would recommend trying to get one, and we were surprised when we walked in- unique and well done decor and ambiance. As far as the food, we ordered the pound of tanner crab, which was the best crab I had in our entire 12 day stay in Alaska. It was extremely fresh and a pound was a good amount for me and the wife. Very nice hole-in-the-wall place! Definitely designed like a fancy older lounge. I loved the decoration and how it was set up. My bf and I went on a late Thursday evening and it wasn't busy at all. The service was decent. He got the French dip, he said it was really good! Good size too. He also got the Prosecco white wine as well and he says it also was pretty good haha. I got the Caesar salad with an add on of chicken. The salad was DELICIOUS..BUT...it literally looked like they grabbed a head of lettuce, chopped off the bottom and layed all the large lettuce leaves on a small plate and dumped Caesar on top, and a giant hunk of uncut chicken. It was just annoying a bit messy to cut myself (sucked because I was starving lol, I know...first world problems eh) but other than them not cutting my food like a normal restaurant service a salad...no complaints besides that one! :) read more
