CHANTAL. We got service from this lovely lady that was better than I have had in some very high end establishments. And I've been to plenty! She was an absolute delight, was attentive but not intrusive, helpful, so friendly--and the kind of friendly that seemed sincere, and not just part of the job. She heard my husband say it was his birthday and later on slipped me a note asking what dessert he would like and coordinated a birthday surprise without my even asking. She deserves a giant bonus or raise for sure, and her customer care was so incredible that if I lived in Seward I would attempt to lure her away to work for me!! The food was also good; the nicely salted baked potato skins, the great seasonings on the seafood, the prime rib was wonderful. My husband said the salmon was cooked really well and he loved the baked beans. For the price, the captains platter seemed a little scant - but it was cooked well. We will definitely be back to visit Chantal and eat some great food!! read more

Stopped by for dinner on 7/17 place is pretty cool looking. Had to wait 15mins to be seated it was busy. Place had plenty of seating and was pretty clean. The servers were really nice and excellent at their jobs! But the best part was the food wow! The seafood chowder was amazing had big chunks of sockeye salmon. The gulf captains platter was very delicious soo fresh had broiled salmon which was juicy and very delicious, Halibut chunks that were fried like fish and chips were cooked crispy and the fish was still juicy. And fried prawns that were crispy and juicy inside bery tasty it came with 2 home made sauces a cocktail sauce that tastes like fresh horseradish was used in it and a standard tarter sauce. It came with two sides we tried baked potato loaded with cheese and bacon and rice with butter both were cooked fo perfection. The cornbread was ok compared to rest of food. Last but not least was this massive chocolate cake it was amazing wish it came with milk, but was so big we took home half! If I'm back in Seward i will definitely come back! read more

We got 2 crab cakes for $22 and I don't think they were homemade. My salmon was undercooked. Luckily the sweet waiter took care of it for us. The brisket smelled like gasoline. Overall the food had no flavor and was cold. Our butter didn't even melt over our rice and potatoes. read more

During our visit to Seward, we asked some of the locals their favorite spot and this was it! It definitely is a hidden gem. It's definitely an interesting spot! "Cheap beer & lousy food" is so funny to me, but also untrue! The food is delicious and oh so fresh. Service was great as well. Definitely recommend if you're in the area. It's also nice because it's not in the downtown area, it feels secluded. Plenty of parking available as well. Food review: Salmon bake: (5/5) YUM. I mean, it is the name of the restaurant after all. The salmon is so fresh and is honestly such a big portion. We definitely could've shared between two of us. Crab cakes: (5/5) These were delicious! Such great flavors and texture. The crisp on the crab cake was perfect. The app comes with two crab cakes, but they are pretty big! Complimentary corn bread: (3.5/5) The bread was yummy. I just wish that it came warmed up, it tasted a little dry. read more

What a hidden gem!!! I cannot understand why this place isn't 5 stars! Everything was outstanding! The food was the best we have had this trip in all of Anchorage, Girdwood, and Seward! We had the Alaskan king salmon and market price was reasonable! We also had the crab cakes and the gulf captains platter and they were so good! The ambiance is great and this place has so much mountain town character! Our server Ashley was attentive and friendly and she even gave great recommendations on some local hiking spots. It was pretty busy but the wait was hardly anything. Everything was literally perfect! Highly recommend this spot!!! read more

I've seen this restaurant many times on lists of restaurants to eat at when in Seward so definitely had to stop and try it. The food was so good we had dinners there for 4 nights in a row and we only stayed in Sewars for 4 night! The atmosphere is cozy, the menu is a good one, but the food was... let's just say I want to go back to Seward for the food alone again! Their salmon was delicious, the prawns too, the burgers were very tasty, everything we have tried was good. Nice service too, the food comes out pretty fast. There ware even pickles in a big drum you can stop by and get for a small price, choosing the one you think you'd like the most. I wish more people knew about this place, that's why I am leaving this review. read more

As you are driving into Seward, don't pass up Exit Glacier Salmon Bake for their trademark salmon baked dinner. With a choice of two sides like baked beans or sautéed corn and garlic butter rice or baked potato and fresh corn bread with honey butter, I felt like it was the Texas Roadhouse of Salmon. You may come hungry but you never leave hungry. Add in a blackened halibut quesadilla starter to share and you will have enough leftovers for lunch the next day. I loved being able to go for a quick easy post dinner hike at 9:30pm to the Glacier View at Exit Glacier to give you a taste of what's to come. Only con is service is a bit slow if you're sitting outside as it took awhile for someone to come and take our order and there are quite a lot of mosquitos as well. read more

Really great meal - you can tell the salmon is fresh since they make is so simple, yet it's so good. Had to wait a good 30 min before being seated and the servers were running around, also a few thinks were sold out by the time we sat at 7 pm. I had a great meal that was classic and traditional, just a heads up that if you don't have much time that could be a concern! read more

Food was amazing. Service great. Large portions of food. Cool ambiance. Very laid back.

This apparently is one of the more popular spots down in Seward! I ordered the halibut quesadilla (9/10) which was super tasteful and delicious. However, I can't say the same for the other fish plates. We ordered the broiled halibut plate and the captain plate. The fish was overcooked and dry, while the jumbo shrimp was RAW! Food came out quick at least but it's not worth $40 for overcooked fish. The sides were at least ok but this place is nothing special and worth visiting for. read more

Cute ambiance similar to that of cracker barrel. The chowder was delicious and their food was hearty and comforting.

Definitely not lousy!! I wish I got pictures of the food bc I enjoyed it sooo much! We got the Salmon Bake and Seafood Chowder. The Seafood Chowder soup was hearty, creamy, and warm. It was chunky with seafood. The Salmon Bake (honestly the BEST SALMON I'VE EVER HAD), had me mindblown with every single bite. I can't stop thinking about this fish. The taste, the freshness, everything about it! It was so delicious! There was lots of seating in this restaurant. We were served pretty quickly. read more

Managed to get into Salmon Bake on Labor Day--their last open day of the season! I was with a group of five and they were able to seat us right away. The decor will give you something to talk about for sure...lots of interesting memorabilia. I ordered the broiled red snapper as I had had my fill of salmon and halibut this trip. It was a nice sized portion and well cooked. Hilariously they were running out of diverse side dishes (because it was their last night of the season), so I had beans and rice. Both were good. My friends enjoyed their dishes as well. Their draft beer list was good and I had their rotating tap which was a raspberry wheat. Very good, and a deal for Alaska at $6.50 a pint. Service was pleasant but a little slow. Definitely a place to eat in Seward. read more

Great salmon bake, their seafood chowder was some of my favorite. Also liked the building and ambiance.

Just as the name implies - Salmon Bake - it's what's for dinner! This is a family friendly business as well as a great place for groups to eat. They are open from May to September during the busy tourist season. There's not a whole lot to do in Seward, but this is the exception. Give the Salmon Bake a try !! read more

Restaurant was right across the street from our hotel in Seward. Stopped by for a drink in the bar and decided to stay for dinner. A couple of us got the fried halibut chunks and chips. Dish comes with slaw and tartar sauce. Halibut was lightly battered and perfectly fried. Others split the crab cake dinner with Brussels sprouts. Place is really unique. Looks like an old Alaska lodge with older stuff hung on the walls. Nice touch is the cornbread with the meal and a barrel of pickles to snack on. Our server was also the bartender and she did a great job. read more

Salmon Bake Restaurant - Salmon Bake - American Near Me - Seward, Alaska

Quirky place with mediocre food. In fact, their slogan is "cheap beer, lousy food", and I should have believed the food part. Cornbread (served before the meal) and pickle (comes with sandwiches/burgers, but you pick it out of a tub yourself) were the highlights. Seafood cakes were okay, but in coastal Alaska the expectations are higher than mediocre. The worst thing was the sides (weirdly seasoned corn, appeared like it had peppers in it?) and bland rice. The other sides options were baked beans and a baked potato- I really would have appreciated better options for sides. I got the sense that I might be in the southern US in this restaurant- country music, eclectic decor, and occasional cowboy boots. But the servers weren't particularly friendly, and it took 3 people debating about where to sit us in the half-empty restaurant to make a decision. read more

We only waited about 15 minutes on a Wednesday night in late June, and the service was fine. But the food was way overpriced and pretty bland. My husband and I each had the Gulf Captain's Platter, and my son had the seafood pasta. The complimentary cornbread with honey butter was good. The fried halibut chunks were decent, but the broiled salmon was overcooked and dry, and the fried prawns were rubbery. The sides--corn, beans, baked potatoes, and rice--were all just meh. Worst of all, my son got food poisoning from the seafood pasta. Go elsewhere! read more

Service was great and the waitress was super friendly, but the salmon dinners were cold and the 1/2 lb. of king crab was tiny and rubbery. Should have listened to their sign that said lousy food! read more

The Salmon Bake serves far more than salmon! They have all kinds of seafood, and also steaks and burgers. It feels like true home cooking. Instead of "bar seafood" that is served fried and with French fries, this is prepared a bit more healthily and served with sides like corn, baked beans, baked potato, or rice. It was refreshing after all of the fried seafood we've been eating! I loved the seafood cakes--mixture of salmon, red snapper, and crab. The salmon was the best we have had on our Alaska trip, and we enjoyed the halibut too! Service was fairly quick, and the staff was friendly. It feels like a hole-in-the-wall, but those are the best kinds of places! read more

Salmon Bake Restaurant - Interior - American Near Me - Seward, Alaska

After three days of being disappointed with the quality of cooked fish along the Seward waterfront, we stumbled upon "The Salmon Bake" on our way to see the glaciers at Kenai Fjords National Park. This turned out to be the best seafood we had during our entire trip to Alaska. The baked salmon and halibut were cooked to perfection--juicy and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The customer service was excellent, adding to the overall great experience. Despite its unassuming exterior, the interior is surprisingly spacious, and they even have a full bar. Every penny we spent there was worth it. I'd give this place a 10 out of 5 if I could! read more

If you're visiting Seward, you need to come here for a culturally unique, fun and tasty meal. As Gayle and I were riding the shuttle bus from the Windsong Lodge to Downtown Seward, I spied the "Cheap Beer - Lousy Food" sign at the Salmon Bake Restaurant as we passed. I immediately recognized that this was a "Road Food" type of place that was a relatively easy walk from our Hotel and the only near alternative to the Resurrection Road House. So for our last dinner in Seward, we schlepped down the Salmon Bake. As it's a popular place and every restaurant anywhere was short staffed, we waited maybe 30 minutes for a table. Actually, we accepted a bar spot which sped things up. We really appreciated that they had both and indoor room and outdoor patio as a waiting area. That gave us the opportunity to go to the bar, order a few drinks, hang out, and chat with other guests. Since this is Alaska and we're in a restaurant named after a fish, of course any of our main selections would be from the sea. I went for the Salmon Bake Dinner, while Gayle choice Broiled Halibut. I mean really, who orders Ribs at a largely seafood restaurant? Both were delicious, well portioned, and nicely color balanced. So much for the "Lousy Food". The craft beer and wine were not "Cheap", and went really well with our wait and dinner. The rooms in Salmon Bake have a sort of a mismatched road house vibe, which felt both authentic and comfortable. Our bar area seat was also by the window facing the patio, which gave us a front row seat to some fascinating people watching. There's a really eclectic bunch who dine and work here, and half the fun was guessing people's stories. Best of all, it all felt like a great date night. read more

My son had butter pasta and salmon and ate it all. Very good. My husband had fish cakes which were good, a little bready. I ate salmon which was a large portion I could not finish. Skip the rice. It was not good. Also, I did not like the corn but my husband did. Neither of us finished the corn servings which were huge. The cornbread was tasty. The service was prompt/efficient. The ambiance is rustic. Not my style but they pull it off. read more

Salmon Bake Restaurant - Alaskan King crab ! Tasty sea food and friendly staff - American Near Me - Seward, Alaska

We ended up coming here 3 times in our 3 days of stay at Seward, as they were one of the few places that still accommodated walk-ins (staff shortages forced a buncha restaurants to limit capacity and/or focus on take-out. The salmon, as expected, is excellent. But if you don't feel like eating their namesake, the halibut and crab options were also pretty great. Waits were super long and our servers have consistently felt scattered and overwhelmed, but that was the case all-around AK this season so I'll hand 'em 5/5 just for the food. read more

ad dinner here on Wednesday Aug 4, 2021 with my dad, son, brother and nephew and we ALL loved our dinners. My son & I had the Gulf Captains Platters- broiled salmon, fried halibut chunks and fried prawns with baked beans & a baked potato as sides. The baked beans were the lowlight of the meal but everything else was delicious. My brother & nephew had the One Pound King Crab dinner and loved it. The crab legs were huge. My dad got the Broiled Seasoned Halibut Sandwich and he loved it. Come early, or at least before they open, or you will be waiting what could be hours... read more

Amazing food and awesome service. Our family really enjoyed everything here. Highly recommend.

Loved dining in this restaurant! Our server James was very friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable and made our entire experience so much better. We went there around 7 pm on a Thursday (group of 6) and were quickly seated. The interior is very interesting, seems a little run down but I liked the vibe. We got the salmon bake dinner, broiled halibut, which came with 2 sides each- couple of portions of rice, and one of corn and beans and we then added a side of prawns and halibut steak too. Fish and prawns were soft and flavorful. We also got the vegetable of the day- a bowl of spinach, mushroom and tomato, it was so nice! Finally we got a very 'healthy' dessert - chocolate cake with ice cream, it was huge, we shared between the 6 of us! Chocolate cake was excellent. Food seemed a bit pricey but seemed worth it. Highly recommend this place. read more

This was a fun place. After hiking to Exit Glacier, 4 kids and myself were tired and hungry. We got here a bit before they opened for dinner, so we checked out the creek and little bridge next door. We all loved the rustic, Alaskan decor and tons of flowers. At 5 o'clock sharp, the Salmon Bake opened and we were quickly seated, presented with the specials and given water and menus. The kids loved the maps on the table, and the Alaskan relics all around. We chose our meals and service was quick and friendly. We chose steamer clams (yum), Caesar salad (pretty good), seafood chowder (delicious, but not salty enough) and various kid delicacies. Overall a yummy dinner and great service. Perfect end to an outdoor, Alaskan day! P.S- delicious cornbread! read more

It appears we got pretty lucky, because there was no wait when my party arrived on a Sunday night. Coming from New York, I felt like there weren't many food options in Seward, but my group really wanted to try Salmon Bake for the seafood options it had to offer. For 90$ (at that time), you can get a pound of king crab legs with sides of potatoes and sautéed corn. King crab leg was very salty, but with the butter it was perfectly seasoned. The king crab leg was also very meaty and the portion size is quite generous. The sides were very mediocre in my opinion. Certain meals such as a sandwich and/or come with a side of a pickle, which I believe they make in house. You can walk to a barrel in the restaurant and pick out the right pickle for you. Overall experience was probs one of the better and more worth it food experiences in Seward for me. read more

Really getting that "Emperor has no clothes" feeling from this place. I was a bit reluctant to come here when I didn't see any reviews from Alaska Elites, which seemed odd. First, the good: the staff. They were fantastic! Friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. Now the rest: - You'll see a lot of reviews mention free whole dill pickles from a pickle barrel. They are not whole. And they are not free. They were at one time apparently, but now they have an angry sign on them saying they aren't free and cost $1.75 - VOG (Vegetable of the Day): was the best thing we ordered. It was cabbage with bacon. However, it had a $2.00 upcharge that wasn't written or explained. - I got ribs: the ribs were sad. They were grey and tasted like they had been boiled, not even a whiff of smoke. The sauce was a clear glaze that tasted like corn syrup and not much else. There wasn't even a suggestion of tomatoes. Any BBQ sauce out of a bottle would've been better, I just don't understand why you'd boil meat and not even try to fix it with a tangy sauce? - My brother got halibut fish n' chips: they were good, but very over-battered for our tastes. - My mother got the halibut sandwich, and just ate the halibut. The bun was cold and enormous compared to the tiny piece of halibut - The beer selection: is mostly from Kenai River Brewing, one of my least favorite breweries in Alaska. We are all beer fans but we chose to get water instead. There was a 2+ hour wait, likely due to the labor shortage. But we were staying at the nearby Exit Glacier Lodge, so it wasn't all that bad! read more
