Update: After leaving my initial review, the manager reached out, offered a discount to remedy the situation, and explained their perspective on the matter. I went ahead and adjusted my review to reflect this. Original: I want to start out by saying that the porch repair work that we got done by Steven was well done. He was also very pleasant to work with, explained the issue, and how we can better maintain the porch moving forward. My complaint focuses on the inaccuracy of the quote compared to the final bill. We decided to go with Fix-It People because their quote seemed fair and was within our budget for this project. The final bill, however, came in over 50% higher than they had estimated. I understand that estimates may not always be accurate, but this was a significant difference. Additionally, their estimate was made based on photos. If there's a risk of this level of inaccuracy, they should have somebody come out in-person to assess the work rather than rely on photos. Regardless, the initial invoice had stated "Any significant change in cost will be communicated up front and will reflect on the final invoice." I was never notified of such a change at any point in the process, only when we got the final bill. Upon reaching out to customer service, I was told that there were higher supply costs than they had initially considered. I wasn't told why. The only compromise they were able to offer was to take away the supply mark-up, which still put us at over 40% higher than the original estimate. I finally requested that we meet in the middle but never received a reply, and instead they billed me with my credit card that was on file. read more

Raul with Fix It People did an awesome job doing a wide variety of projects at our home, including securing our front stairs, replacing our medicine cabinet, tightening our toilet, replacing our faucet, fixing a ceiling fan, and tightening some cabinet doors. Thank you!!! read more

I requested for a repair service to replace shower cartridge in our bathroom. However first thing I was required was a deposit without any assurance and it wasn't clear that it was non-refundable. Then a service person was dispatched and didn't even bother checking more detail and rather tried to check few parts then came to a conclusion that the whole drywall needs to be cut open to replace whole pipes. Which estimated cost increased from $260 minimum to $3,400 minimum. What made me want to leave a review here is that I decided to reach out to another place for a second opinion and I was told it can be fixed by simply replacing a shower cartridge and parts of existing shower trim. So I reached back to the finance team here and without any explanation that 140 isn't refundable which made me pay 140 for a 5 min visit. Definitely will not use this business in future as I'm questioning the quality of dispatched service people. TLDR; Shower broke, needed help, this company charged $140 for 5 min assessment then quoted me for $3,400 for simple cartridge replacement. read more

Outstanding work ethic. We had 2 separate jobs with Fix It People over the last year as 2 different houses. The first job was several drywall fixes including a warped ceiling. Perfection- and it helped us sell our house. The 2nd job was our inept attempt to DYI a new sink. Sure we got it functioning, but still needed it scored against the wall, better water lines that weren't kinked, and it was leaking. Fix It People fixed it all- we are very satisfied and we recommend that you hire Fix It People! read more

We just had our fireplace re-built by a 3rd party company that didn't finish the fireplace (plaster/paint/etc) as this wasn't part of their expertise. We reached out to Fix It People Chicago and they were able to provide us with Raul who was amazing!!! He came into our home and offered up suggestions so we would be happy with the end result. Ultimately, he did a fantastic job and would use him again for anything additional we needed. If you're in need of any plaster work/painting/construction, I would recommend Raul for anything. read more

So easy to work with! They sent someone out (Raul) to talk about my project. Raul listened and asked all the right questions to understand fully. Within days, Raul was back to start the work. He included me all along the way, finished the job and cleaned up. He was respectful of my time and space. I will definitely be using them again. read more

This place might be good for small repairs but definitely not for large projects. I had a plumbing issue in my ceiling and everyday there was a new issue with new cost that would lead to more of their people coming in getting paid. I had 3 different plumbers come in after I told Fix It People stop what they were doing cause I had a feeling they were being dishonest. All 3 licenses plumbers said the same thing, why did he cut those pipes and open up all of the walls that he did. I said I know it made more work for their drywall guy which leads to more work for their painter. I would never use them again and then they charge me $1300 for this guy to come to my home and work a total of 6 hours and then leaves his garbage in my house. Total hack job, worse experience ever. If you need more details please reach out to me before you choose them and I will send pictures and receipts and my ring video that shows how long he was actually doing work in my home. Yeah I understand what you are saying Mike, but 3 big time plumbers said what work was done shouldn't been done at all and then it cost me more money then what was needed, so obviously your workers are up to par to handle certain task. read more

We had a great first-time experience with FixItPeople. They turned around an inquiry for a w/d vent connection replacement with an estimate within a day, scheduled us in a cancellation slot the following day, and were here within a half hour. Paulo was neat, quick, efficient, and friendly, and got the job done. We will definitely engage them again. read more

TLDR: Did a video call for a quote, 3 weeks later still haven't heard back. These guys are obviously successful and have great reviews. I'd like to say the review was about their actual work but we never even got to that part. Did a video call for a quote. Waited 1 week and heard nothing. I reached out, they apologized said quote is coming in 48 hours. It's been more than 3 weeks now, still no follow up. They are obviously very busy with many clients which speaks to their success. But I don't want to work with any contractors who can't even follow up on a quote. It's a sign that they will probably forget about your project while juggling all their clients. Typically that's a bad sign in the construction industry. Sad because those reviews really had me sold. read more

I recently needed a fix to a faulty back door. I contacted fix-it-people, and the entire process from initial request, to estimation, to appointment booking, to work completion, and final invoicing was very smooth and professional. Every one I interacted with (Visare "the concierge", Leo Nunez "the handyman") were amazing. Leo was able to get the door fixed, and as good as new. I look forward to using their services again! read more

Adding on to my original review, below, and changing the star rating. In a nutshell, the owner reached out to me and made a gesture that was unexpected. I appreciate her commitment to customer satisfaction and I feel like she genuinely cares about her company and its reputation. She didn't have to acknowledge my experience or make an effort to improve it. Feeling heard was my goal, and she more than did that. I thank her for that hallmark of a business owner who cares. Original unedited review: A rating based on the efficiency and work alone would be 5-stars, unequivocally (you might want to stop reading there.) Repeating: the work is deserving of 5-stars. Longer version: Fix It People was amazingly responsive and were able get to my job before other contractors could. For that, I knowingly paid more than double what two other companies quoted. That's on me and was my choice to make, or not. I made it and I paid the invoice within an hour of confirming its accuracy so this isn't a matter of being unable to pay. The person who did my job was professional and he was a pleasure. Great workmanship, condescending customer service. I won't go into details that don't matter for this review, but I had reason to believe that the video estimate was higher than it should have been, even factoring in that Fix It People are at the highest end of the scale. (Again, I knew that going in.) The final invoice was even higher than that. I sent an email asking if the estimate could be reconsidered. I wasn't asking for them to cut it in half or anything ridiculous. I literally just asked them to reconsider it. I received a response that was pure mansplaining couched in borderline obsequiousness, very inflexible and ultimately insulting. (And I say this as someone who works in a sector where I deal with nonsense daily.) That's how they choose to run their business and clearly it works. While I appreciate the job well done, I won't be back. Quite sure they won't miss me so it's all good. read more

Great service. Raul always makes the effort to make sure we are satisfied with his work

Wow! Where have these people been all my life? Are you tired of reaching contractor's voicemail and never getting a follow-up call? Are you tired of not being able to get the help you need in a timely manner? Are you tired of the lack of transparency in pricing? If so, run to FIP! My experience with general contractors in the past has been borderline PTSD. From the anxiety of wondering whether or not someone would show up when they said they would to not knowing what to expect in terms of quality. I looked up highly rated contractor service on a whim and stumbled upon Fix It People. I figured I had nothing to lose. From the start of scheduling your work, you reach a very responsive person on the other end. Tom got back to me right away and was incredibly pleasant and professional. Pictures were requested of the projects that needed work (didn't have to deal with someone coming over during a health crisis), and Tom was able to accurately assess and provide a reasonable quote . Everything else was then handled efficiently by Taylar, the project manager. Taylar ensured that all information was in the system and good to go so that there was no confusion or surprises when the technician arrived on the actual day which they were able to get me in the week after following scheduling. The day of the project, technicians arrived within the indicated timeframe and ready to work. Masks were worn and technicians were very respectful and professional. I had a total of 4 technicians who came by on different days, and they all arrived early and ready to work. At the end of each completed project, they would call me to check their work and made sure if I had an questions or needed something to be redone. I know that I will be using FIP again for all of my home improvement and repair needs. read more

Had a kitchen faucet and dining room light fixture replaced by Javar. So happy with the work he did. It took him about an hour to remove and replace our faucet and remove and replace the fixture. He did a fantastic job, wore a mask, and was very polite. We weren't sure we could properly do both jobs, and even if we could have (we probably couldn't have) it would have taken us an entire day at best. I'm very glad I decided to call in the professionals. read more

Fix It People - Shelves - Handyman Near Me

Update: Tom, the general manager, reached out to me and explained that they have been really short staffed due to COVID, several people were out sick and it was hard to keep up. He apologized and sent me a partial refund to make up for the issues I had with poor communication. It is completely understandable with COVID that they are running behind, I just wish it were communicated to me earlier. I really liked the people who did the work and would love to work with them again. Hopefully, the company will not be stretched so thin in the long run. We had some bathroom repairs done, along with bathroom repainting. The work was done really well, we are very satisfied with the results. The reason for 3 stars (it would have been 1 star if it weren't for the people who actually did the work) is the communication with the project managers. 90% of the time I didn't get a response to my emails. Questions weren't answered, we were not informed of schedule changes. I was promised to get a quote for more work to be done (you'd think they would want to make money), still waiting for a response to several emails I sent regarding it over the last week. Got billed today for more hours than the person actually worked . For absolutely no reason. Again, had to contact them to lower the price to the actual amount of hours. Honestly, it is shockingly unprofessional, which is sad since the people who actually do the work are awesome. Would love to use their services, but the project managers are making it pretty much impossible. Based on all the 5 star reviews, it seems that it is only my experience. read more

My partner and I have reached out to Fix It People for a few things around our condo including patching up a poor drywall job from the previous owner, minor tiling, and installing additional electrical outlet. Every time, Fix It People have been responsive and quick. They're always on time or early and sometimes when multiple professionals come they are very communicative of the schedule for the rest of the day and we know how many people are coming and when to expect them. I particularly want to call out Raul who helped with patching drywall and painting twice now. He was very open to answering all of my questions and did a great job! read more

My experience with FIP was like trying out a modern technology. It was the experience I had never had in any house project before. When Tom and Michael came for the first visit, they arrived on time, they took most of the measurements using phone, they explained me the scope of work and they were out in 15 minutes. Next day I received detailed estimate via email. I was satisfied with the price and two weeks needed to finish the work. I scheduled the start date and made the down payment online (over the phone on the way to work :)) The work started a day later the scheduled day which worried me. However Michael assured me that he has built contingency in the schedule and everything will be fine. After that everything went as planned. Over the two weeks period Michael scheduled demo, drywall, floors and paint guy to finish the job. Michael kept me informed about the progress every evening via text. I had a hard deadline of two weeks because my dad was coming to stay with us. Michael and his team completed the work a day in advance with high quality. Since the first visit to the last walkthrough it was a very streamlined process. I am happy with how the room turned out. read more

After conducting a virtual walkthrough and promising an estimate later that day - sooner than I would have expected - Fix It People never followed up and did not respond to email or text inquiries. It has now been two weeks since the walkthrough. Perhaps this company is a victim of its own success, judging by the many positive reviews, and can't keep up with requests. However, if it is unable or unwilling to take on a particular project, its staff should simply say so. Ghosting a prospective customer is neither courteous nor a winning business strategy, especially given the website content as posted below. I hope the marketing director will take another look: "Why work with us? The home-improvement category is filled with unreliable, unorganized contractors who overcharge and under-deliver, and that's if they don't ghost you completely. That's why our mission is to be the renovation this category sorely needs. We are reliable, trustworthy, and provide the best customer experience. You call, we answer. You give us a time, we show up. You invite us in, we wipe our feet. Because we think it's time for a better kind of handyman service. No waiting around for quotes or workers to show up. Our team is fast, friendly and ready to improve every corner of your home. Start by getting a free quote today!" read more

Stay away from this company ! First, they did an estimate via facetime (that should have been a red flag already) but I agreed to that amount. 3 days after the job started, they wanted to increase the price of the job because they underestimated the amount of work that needed to be done and, if you don't agree, they stop the job that had already started. Basically, you are a hostage until you agree to the new price tag. Then, the contract stated the job was going to be completed in 5 working days, but it took 30 days to tile a 1,100 SF condo because they sent 1 person ONLY to do the job, yes, 30 days long days. Also, you think they would clean the floor to see the final job, well, they didn't. I had to hire someone to clean tile by tile in order to give my ok to the job done. Lastly, the final bill came and of course they wanted to charge me a huge amount of money for materials that was never used. After a lot of emails back and forth, they agreed in a small discount but definitely it doesn't worth the aggravation to live in place full of dust and construction materials for a FULL MONTH and be charged almost 60% more of the original quote. In few words: this project was a nightmare ! read more
