Japanese Old Fashioned
Jenny T.

We came in on a Sunday evening and they had told us that they had just started making Sunday all day happy hour. For drinks we ordered the Japanese Old Fashioned ($10), and a couple draft beers ($6 each), and for food we ordered the Five55 Burger ($12 for burger only) and the Pepperoni Flatbread ($17) (the only item not from the happy hour menu). The drinks were great and it was nice to spend some time down there to just chill and relax and have a couple drinks. The food was okay, I would think it's a bit pricey for what you get, but it's more to keep from drinking on an empty stomach. Our servers were great. They kept checking in on us to make sure we were doing well. They were all so nice and were quick to bring anything we requested to us. If I just want to chill and talk with some friends this is a nice place to hang out. It's not too loud in there and they even have some games to play. It's in a convenient location for me so it'll be a good spot to just hang out outside of my house.

Really nice ambience. The staff seemed disengaged considering there were only about 10 people in there during my visit. I stopped by for a drink, but decided to just get dessert and maybe circle back later for drinks when the crown picked up. I order the cookie dough brownie because the description sounded amazing. However, what I received looked pretty but fell flat. It's was definitely more cake than brownie or cookie dough. And didn't have much flavor in either category. I didn't return for drinks.

Came last night at 11:15pm. They close at midnight. As soon as the waiter saw us walk in, he gave us that look that he didn't want to serve us. He sat us and said last call is in 5 minutes. That's fine, we placed an order for 2 cocktails and a pitcher. He told us they are not doing pitchers because they are almost closing. Wtf? So we placed an order for a few beers which essentially was the same amount as the pitcher but it cost us more money. When the check arrived, we were not charged happy hour prices. I questioned him about it and he asked us "what day is today?". I had to remind the waiter that today, a Saturday, the place that he worked at, offered late night happy hour. Unbelievable. I used to come fairly often for drinks and bites. I am never coming back.

Nice restaurant and bar within the Courtyard Marriott hotel. We were seated quickly and made it just in time for happy hour. Options for happy hour were pretty good and all of the drafts were included. If you're staying in the hotel, I'd visit for the convenience and the bar. Restrooms are clean and smelled great. The only food we weren't fans of was the wings. They were cold and not as flavorful. If I'd paid regular price I would've been upset. Staff service was nice and was given suggestions for drinks by the server. Also got some popcorn for the road for free. Would be a cool place to watch sports on happy hour.

OMG this bar is it! If I lived closer I would be here all the time! Everyone that I have brought to this bar has loved it! They say this bar is nice! Hands down the best lychee martini and lemon drop. The bartenders know how to shake the martinis up where you would for sure be like yep this is it. Good here is eh. If you go for anything just stick to the flatbread. But other than that drinks are amazing! My son had the old fashion and really liked it! This place is it!

Honestly, I live in the neighborhood and I had been waiting to come and explore this place! I am glad I finally did :) I got the bbq wings and my friend got the flat bread Margherita and both were delicious. I saw a few choices on the menu, so next time , I will be exploring something else. Also, our server by the name of Mayra was amazing, she was very attentive, answered every question and provided great customer service and most importantly, she always had a smile. I will be coming here more often for sure :)

PARENTS LOVE FIVE55 Hidden behind the dim sum restaurant inside the Marriott hotel, Five55 is now my husband and my favorite restaurant to go with our kids! Pros: - full bar- great cocktails - the food is GOOD! It's not the typical bar food, besides wings, burgers and onion rings their grilled salmon dinner was perfectly cooked! Flatbread pizza is bomb too - baby changing table in BOTH restrooms for mommy's and daddy's - lots of TVs playing sports - private room available with your own TV and board games. Perfect for your kids to run around inside - service is great. They are attentive and come by often to get drink orders There are no cons. Hence why I gave them a perfect 5-star!

Michelada with modelo negra is bomb

You walk in and the service was on point. Went in on a night when bartenders Ryan & Max were behind the bar, they recommended some drinks and appetizers that were great. The Michelada is my current go to.

The grilled cheese and tomato bisque is definitely a must have!

The kitchen here is doing some heavy lifting. I had the grilled cheese and tomato bisque and it was perfectly cooked with that crispy edge you usually only find at high-end spots. Great drink selection and my husband can't stop talking about the fish and chips. The service was very friendly and attentive. It's the perfect mix of "neighborhood hangout" and "foodie destination".

I've been going to them more and more, and The Lucky Tiki was one I definitely had to try out. First off, I have to praise 1933 group because I have loved every single bar they have revitalized and this one is no different. In keeping with their MO, The Lucky Tiki is a speakeasy with a vintage vibe. I won't give away how to get in but let's just say, it's near the front of Highland Park Bowl. My husband and I didn't have a reservation, but we were able to put our name in and got seated about an hour or so later. I was amazed as soon as I walked in the door! It's just floor to ceiling decorated with everything tiki. So many fun details and even interactive elements that turn on when a particular drink was ordered. That was probably my favorite part honestly. We ordered the Tiki Diablo, which is a large tiki drink with a flaming volcano. And yes it does have an interactive element. It was really good. Very fruity and strong, but not overly so. Service was excellent. Our waitress was on it and even waited to make sure my husband was back from the bathroom before lighting our drink on fire. We didn't try any food this time, but a lot of people were ordering the Hawaiian pizza. Do with that what you may. Will definitely be back ti try more drinks and food. Was the perfect spot for a lively date night!

FYI this place requires reservations, yet they apparently do not honor reservations…read more I have friends coming into town from Greece, so I made a reservation because they love tiki but have no way of experiencing it in Greece, and so they even got aloha shirts to wear. So after having a reservation for weeks, I get a text from this place saying someone booked a private event so my reservation is cancelled. How about instead of accepting $$$ for a private event that will deny customers their reservation, they make the private event work around what is available? Terrible way of doing business, but I hope they get lots of $$$ and engagement for the privileged private event attendees.

TLDR: Improved technology, more modern look, still affordable…read more I had been meaning to check out this newly reopened bowling alley for a while now, so I'm glad I finally got to go! I'm not sure if it's being run by the same owner or if someone else took over, but the building looks much more modern now. It's a little bittersweet to see all the nostalgic pieces of my childhood gone, but it's hard to deny that it's for the best. Prices were still pretty affordable. The staff member let us know that there's a cheaper deal on weekdays, which is pretty normal for bowling alleys. There is clearly a lot more seating on the top floor. The addition of all the tables is really nice. I also noticed that they removed the extra TVs that used to either play ads or sports and stuff. They also got rid of all the pool tables that I never saw anyone use. The screens and control panels are all updated to this modern design too. Something else that was interesting was how the old bowling ball racks were moved to the side of the building to make room for bag hooks behind the people bowling. Although it's a good idea, it's kind of hard to watch your belongings when they're behind you like that, so it leaves your stuff kind of open for stealing. It's also easier to grab the bowling ball you need though because they're all in one place instead of spread across the whole building. The only thing that I kind of hate is the seating down by the alley. There's actually less seating down there with these standalone dining table sets replacing the old benches. Since our party arrived when there were many other people there, we only had one side of the lane while strangers were on the other side. It's just a little awkward to sit at a dining table with strangers like that. Not to mention, the seating arrangement left a lot of people standing and kind of made it hard to communicate with each other. In terms of bowling mechanics, I think the amount of time it takes for the bowling ball to return has been reduced significantly. I'm so glad we don't have to wait ages for the ball to return for the second throw! The machine also didn't seem to experience incorrect racking, which used to happen all the time here. Sadly, the screen does not tell you the mph your throw was at anymore. I always thought that was a very helpful feature, so it's a shame to see it go. Lastly, the floors seemed well cleaned and waxed. I didn't have to powder my shoes and felt like my bowling ball glided pretty smoothly down the alleyway. Overall, I think this bowling alley is nice. I'm glad to have an alley that's close to my house again!
