My sister had told me about this place that was coming to Northgate and that they apparently had great burgers. So one night we decided to meet up and have dinner there. I checked out the menu and was really surprised at how small it was. A bit skeptical, I decided to give it a shot. Boy was I glad I did!!! We met up and noticed immediately that the place was PACKED! People in and out, eating there or taking their food to go. The seats are limited and they go quick, so we grabbed a table and then headed to the counter to order. You can choose between the burger (which has two patties, wow!) or their little burgers (with one patty, thank goodness!). Then all the toppings are free and you can have as many as you want, all of them if you want to, but that'd be truly messy! I had the little bacon cheese burger with lettuce, tomatoes, grilled mushrooms, ketchup and mustard. It was SO TASTY!!!! Just a really well made juicy burger and the toppings were fresh and well prepared. The mushrooms were sliced thick and cooked really well, not all wilty. Then the tomato was fresh and thick, the lettuce nice and crunchy. Nicely melted cheese and crispy(!!!) bacon. There were three of us eating so I also got a large fry to share between us and it was PLENTY! The large fry is a huge helping of crispy(yay!!!) potatoey goodness that had been fried in peanut oil, so the taste is different than fries you would get elsewhere. They needed some salt, but other than that, they were fantastic! This place surprised me in a way that makes me happy. This saved me from a horrible burger experience recently experienced by Red Robin and 5 Guys is now my go-to place when I want a good burger and fries. I get a boner over a good burger just like any other dude, so i was excited to finally see what the hype was. They really should rename the place 5 Guys burgers because in this Yelpers opinion, the fries were mediocre at best. First the burger. If your familiar with In-n-out then it's just as good, with the option for additional toppings. Fresh ingredients = good burger. Fries, ugh. I'd heard about the Renton location for a while but had never traveled down there. But boy, am I happy they now have on in Northgate. Both locations are conveniently located next to movie theatres so you can grab your grub before or after a movie. Another perk is that they have free peanuts in case you get too hungry to wait for your food! And yes, there will be times when the line gets really long and the food gets backed up, but just keep in mind that it's worth the wait! Burgers are practically fully customizable with many toppings to choose from. Single patty burgers for less than $5!!! add a patty for about a dollar more! Talk about satisfying for both the tummy and the wallet! Another thing to try out when you go are the cajun spiced fries! These babies are DELICIOUS. I could much on them forever, if I didn't have to worry about dying of salt overload... The only con I can think of when it comes to Five Guys... is that the burgers come soaked in all your toppings and it's kind of a mess to eat... but after you sink your teeth into this thing, you'll forget how messy your hands and face are after this delectable treat. As a man familiar with neighborhood burger shops, In-N-Out, and Dick's, I would like to tell all the complainers to shove a hot dog down their throats. Sure, Five Guys isn't as good as whatever might be your favorite, but it's still a good shop. I would say it is the most successful mass market adaptation of non-thousand island type burger places yet. Compared to In-N-Out, the prices are almost double, but you also seem to get way more in terms of portions. The "Little" burgers and fries are so generous that coming here too frequently will lead to obesity and believe it or not, that's a compliment! Seriously, the "Little" items are enough to stuff the average sized person. This place really is one of those single-meal-day type places. I hate small portions for large prices, so it's a win on the value scale. The fries are thick cut non-shoestring, but super generous and salty! They also have complimentary salted whole peanuts available to shell and munch, to add to the whole value/stuff yourself appeal. So overall, the pros are generous portions, generally good quality, and its location at the Thornton Place cinema. The cons are that if you want a smaller portion (Dick's/In-N-Out) for cheap, you either have to split it with someone or you're out of luck. I also didn't like how cheesy quotations of acclaim plaster the walls. If you know you're good, then why be so insecure about it? Personally, I would opt for a neighborhood place first. If I wanted a chain, then Dick's or In-N-Out simply because I like various features like the local character and affordability of the former or the shoestring fries, crazy secret combos, or relative flavor:affordability ratio of the latter. However, if the time is right, like before or after a movie or hanging with friends, I wouldn't hesitate to have one all the way at Five Guys. read more

I was headed to the Red Robin at Northgate, but the Five Guys sign caught my eye. Since I have never been to a Five Guys before, I decided to drop in. Since we didn't know what we wanted, we just ordered the burgers with everything (in black font on the menu board). We got two "little" bacon burgers, a little bacon cheeseburger, a large fries and three drinks for about $25. Overall, the burgers were good, and I liked how many soda options they had at the machine. There were a ton of fries, and they were decent (it is a little depressing when the calories for the fries are listed at over 1,500, even if the fries were for three people). I can't imagine trying to eat peanuts first before tackling a mountain of fries. I wouldn't say that Five Guys had the best burgers. I prefer Red Mill or even Dick's to Five Guys when it comes to "fast food" burgers. read more

It's about time we got one of these here. I had one in GA and I just fell in love. Nothing hits the hunger stop that a big greasy yummy hamburger! Beware that there little burger is not that little and their "regular" burger is a double. I find that the little burger is just the right size, plus you can add all the free toppings you want from onions to peppers they have just about everything. Also getting one order of fries to share will be more than enough. You get a bag full. The fries are greasy and so yummy too. This is no where near an amazing burger. They put up these signs and media articles about how great they are. Red Mill and In N Out are soo much better. This being said they are still a good simple burger. I like that the regular is actually a double. They use a good American cheese that taste soo good on a burger. I had heard a lot of hype about this place so I decided to give it a try. I did not realize that the "regular" burgers were doubles. That was a mistake. Too much beef for me. The burger was okay, but it wasn't the best ever. It got really soggy and all the toppings fell off. The fries were good, but a regular order was too much for two of us to finish, which was annoying. I would rather be able to order a proportionate amount of food. Also, with the price difference between a hamburger and cheeseburger, I was hoping for more than a slice of processed "cheese". I found all the tiles and red and white everywhere, along with all the ads about how great they were, annoying. We are there already! You don't need to bombard us even more with your own ads! Tried 5 guys on the way to a movie a month or two ago (and also because I was quite curious to try the "In n Out" of the East Coast.) It is definitely not like In n Out and I think that may be a good thing because I'd probably 10 lbs heavier ;) While it is really tasty (the grade and quality of meat is good and their fries are fantastic) its just not the same. I do like the fact that you can add a bunch of toppings without breaking the bank, and I do like the fact that its usually really quick (quick as in crap the movie starts in 10 minutes, think we have enough time? quick) I probably wouldn't make a special trip here - but I will say its quite nice its right next to the theater! read more

Ordered a cheeseburger with the general works (minus the mushrooms). A solidly delicious burger. The grilled onions seem to make the burger, so if you like those then definitely get those on your burger. It was very good, but didn't seem extra special to me and according to all the signs noting their accolades and awards on the walls I was expecting something special. If all you know about burgers is fast food, then Five Guys will be one of the best burgers you've ever had. It's comparable to the likes of In-N-Out and Kidd Valley. But for those of you who have experienced a true high-end burger, burgers from places like The Counter, Lunchbox Labs, or the Vegas Burger Bar, you'll be sorely disappointed. The Five Guys burger relies heavily on the sauce to bring the whole thing together. How do I know this? Because I ordered a burger without any sauce (Little Bacon Cheeseburger with Lettuce, Tomatos, and Grilled Onions, for the curious). And it was bland. To be fair, In-N-Out and Kidd Valley also rely heavily on the sauce, but that's kind of my point. A good burger comes from the sauce, but a truly great burger (Counter, Lunchbox Labs) stands on the meat alone. Five Guys was merely "good". Of course, one could argue that I should have ordered a burger with sauce and I'd have enjoyed it a lot more, but then this would be a review of ketchup, mustard, and mayo, and not burgers. A lot of people had told me how greasy Five Guys burgers are. Imagine my surprise when I actually bit into one today. It wasn't dry by any means, but I was expecting something much greasier. At The Counter and Lunchbox Labs, the burger starts dripping with grease and meat juice when you bite into it, and that's the moisture and grease level I expect out of pretty much any and every burger I eat. (And yes, I know I say that about every burger I've had that isn't Counter or Lunchbox. That's how serious I am about burgers.) I've always said that the ingredients in a truly great burger should blend together well and not have any one ingredient overpower any of the rest (not even the beef or the bacon). Like I said before, Five Guys is merely "good", not "great". Several times, I bit into my burger and got nothing but a mouth full of lettuce. In a bad way. One could argue that maybe I shouldn't get lettuce on my burgers. Those people are silly. The fries are nothing more than a delivery mechanism for ketchup. Meaning the fries are terrible. Not as terrible as In-N-Out fries, but still pretty terrible. I've said dozens of times before that good fries are either crispy, well-seasoned, or thick and potatoey. Five Guys fries were none of the above. To be fair, maybe I should have ordered the Cajun fries. I probably would have enjoyed those more. But whenever I first try a burger place, I always get the baseline, meaning of course regular fries. Overall, if there were a Five Guys near where I live, I'd prolly grab a burger from there on a regular basis. But as it stands, I'd have to drive all the way up to Northgate or all the way down to Renton to get Five Guys. And quite frankly, Five Guys just isn't worth going out of my way for. It's a decent fast food burger, but it's not in the running for "best burger", and it doesn't even stand a chance as a "great burger". Yes! I am a long time fan of Five Guy Burgers, i am eagerly awaiting for the new Ballard location to open...I will be there. The Northgate location is awesome because it is right at the front door of the Regal Cinema. They have made it so easy for me to pop in before seeing your movie, get your tics and then get your burger and fires. Doing the math, a meal before the movie is about the same price as a popcorn and drink combo inside the theater. I vote for burger! read more

Being a burger fan and having friends go on and on about this place I had no choice but to try this place. I went with my wife and daughter just so they could experience this so called awesome hamburger joint. Fries in a cup and the burgers don't seem squished, good signs so far. I open the wrapper and notice a slab of processed cheese, not even melted. Strike one. I bite in to it and the Bar-B-Q sauce never bit back. Strike two. I take another bite and the meat itself is just bland. Strike three, YOU'RE OUT! Next batter, the fries. The fries were so-so, for greasy / limp fries Dick's fries are better. While waiting for my daughter to finish her "Little Cheeseburger" I decided to get some peanuts from the corner barrel. What do you know; the peanuts have more taste than the burger. I know this isn't a gourmet burger joint but I've been to a lot of small burger joints and hole in the walls that had way better burgers. Because this place is right at the entrance to the Regal Thornton Place theater, it's a good place to eat right before going in to see a movie. I've been here twice to date, and both times were last second decisions, made exactly ten minutes before the start time of the movie. This was a problem both times, because ten minutes is not enough time to savor the experience. I find the service here to be excellent, the staff very quick and helpful. And MAN the burger is excellent, kind of like an ideal prototypical American burger. It comes wrapped in tinfoil, and when you eat that bad boy, you are going to become a juicy, greasy mess and you'll need to use a bunch of the standard, square all-American white paper napkins provided. Everything about this burger is delicious - beef, bun, fresh toppings, crispy bacon, OMNOMNOMNOM but both times I've had it, I had to hurry, and this burger deserved better treatment than that. Today I ordered the fries too - I figured there would be ten minutes of movie trailers so I could still get to my show on time. I ordered the large size. The girl was in disbelief: "have you ever seen our fries?" She said the regular size feeds 1-2 people and the large feeds 3-4 people. I opted for regular size. It's a good thing.... There were so many fries in the order that I had a dilemma. I couldn't possibly eat the burger and fries and still make it to the show. I had to get all Angus McGuyver on that biatch. I ate the burger and some of the fries, then I used a piece of the tinfoil to cover my ketchup tub, put the fries and ketchup back into the paper bag, put that whole thing into a plastic shopping bag I had and took it to the movie with me. The fries are good but I wish they were crispy. There's no crispiness to them at all, kind of like Dick's only thicker cut. The portion is INSANE, like imagine three to four large orders worth of McDonald's fries, with half jammed into a cup and the other half overflowing into the bag. The next time I come here I'm going to budget more time. I also want to try their Hotdogs. Oh, and also, they provide peanuts in the shell for you to nosh on while waiting for your order. I had heard they opened a location up in Marysville (and my friends were raving about it) but wasn't aware there was one in Northgate. We stopped in and ate. Even at 2pm this place was jumping! The mushrooms appear to be the same as sliced mushroom pieces from a can and taste the same. The mushrooms did not taste grilled at all. I REALLY liked Five Guys. Love how you can pick literally any topping.... for free. Things like that make me happy. The burger was tasty - and so were the toppings. I ordered the little hamburger. By the time all the toppings were on there, it wasn't so little anymore. The difference between a regular and a little is 2 patties versus 1, so if you want just a single portion - go for the "little but no so little" burger. The fries were good and at this location they had one of those weird pop machines with like a million flavors. My fiance had fun with that. :) Oh, and free peanuts. This location gets a little crazy because there aren't too many restaurants by the movie theater next door. They move the line and get your food out quick. Everytime I got into a Five Guys, we are always greeted and the service is always great! By far one of the best burgers I have eaten ever! The fun part, you get to choose whatever you want in your burger... and there's no charge! ha. I personally get the little bacon cheese burger, just because I can't finish a huge one... unless I was starving. They also have those soda machines that have like 200 options... so that's always fun to try out... if you want to have a sugar coma. Five Guys just didn't live up to the hype for me. It was good, but it wasn't anywhere close to In N Out as many have been telling me. The good: fresh and generous toppings; thick, perfectly cooked patty - one was plenty; All toppings after bacon and cheese are free; excellent customer service from a staff who appears to have fun; Coke Freestyle machines. The bad: mushy, over-salted fries (for me to complain about salt takes a lot, as my bf will attest); standard toppings; no milkshakes. According to the many press clippings on their walls the fries are a hit with Brits because they're more like chips, so if you dig that then you'll enjoy 'em. I prefer a crispy fry myself. Five Guys is good food. It just isn't impressive in anyway. If I want a big juicy burger with fresh toppings I'll stick to Red Robin in the NW. Just after moving from SLC to Seattle, I heard that they'd opened a couple locations in the Salt Lake Valley and the hype that surrounded these openings made many comparisons to the greatness of In-n-Out. My fiance and I head out to Northgate on New Years Eve to get some grub and, despite the parking confusion, it was easy to locate the Five Guys right next to the movie theater. We arrived just before 5pm and the place was not nearly as packed as we expected (although this changed by the time we'd finished and left) I'd had Dick's the night before to stave off an impending hangover and so my most recent memory of a burger was still pretty fresh. At Five Guys I ordered the small (single patty) bacon cheeseburger with mayo, lettuce, tomato and (yum!) grilled onions. My man ordered the small cheeseburger with BBQ sauce and grilled onions and together we split a large order of fries. I loved my burger! Fresh veggies, lots of tomato and grilled onions, freshly cooked bacon and a really nommie roll which was not at all too large or overwhelming in size. AND! It was a reasonable price. Dick's is close to home and pretty good but the quality at Five Guys destroys them. My man's burger was great too (according to him) but he claims he over did it on the fries and that stuffed him silly. I loved the fries as well since I'm a huge fan of fresh-cut, slightly overcooked fries that actually taste like a potato and is not overly salted. Oh, we will be back - this is only the beginning of a very unhealthy relationship. Went to Five Guys tonight before the movies along with a lot of movie goers. Entered thru the front door where I was greeted with a line of 15 patrons which moved pretty quickly until making it to the counter. Decided to purchase the Little Bacon Cheeseburger which with tax was $5.05; which was rather large in itself along with unlimited free toppings like grilled onions, grilled peppers, and a variety of other great free toppings. The order of french-fries; was enormous and easily enough for two people to enjoy and still have some left over. My only complaint is that the place was way too crowded with very limited seating; and it felt extremely claustrophobic while waiting for an order to come out. read more

Visited here at around 3:30pm on Saturday...and it was fairly crowded. Service was good/helpful as this was our first time. Nothing fancy about this place...order at the counter and wait for them to call your number. I had a "junior" bacon burger (no cheese), with grilled onions, tomatoes, jalapenos, BBQ sauce. The burger was good, not great. The thing I did NOT like was the bacon was in little pieces as was the onions...so it fell off the burger very easily. I like strips of bacon not bits. The fries were ample in serving size and fresh tasting. They do not salt them which is a good thing...they let you decide how much you want. I could see at lunch this place being packed, and to me it just isn't worth waiting a long time. Now during quieter times I'd go back...it's overall good and pretty inexpensive. read more

The Burgers were good. The fries were good sometimes and other times okay. Nothing that stood out in my mind as having been excellent or OMG I just have to go again and eat it. A little bit more pricier than the other fast food joints. But the servings are big and you just pick and choose what you want on your burger or dog. What did make an impression on me was the fact that they don't serve milkshakes. Not even just the regular Vanilla or Chocolate milkshake. Which to me, is somewhat of an atrocity since I think every burger joint should offer milkshakes on their menu. I mean c'mon people, I'm not the only who thinks like this. I remember walking away from this place the first time I came feeling very sad. Because when I do succumb to eating burgers I want the whole experience. Burgers, fries and a freaking milkshake!! Fries: Meh. But they give you a lot. This is definately not a stingy place. Burger: great for price. Certainly better than dick's for near same price and you can pile on much better toppings, eg fresh jalepenoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms. Free soda refills. Course with Dicks you're also paying for location. Service: very good. Friendy customer service orienteed! Clean nice bathroom! Dining area: utilitarian meh. 3 stars because I wouldn't go back despite the above. I guess great fries are critical. 4 stars for what you get fore price. read more

I enjoyed the free peanuts, though they were kind of stale and I couldn't throw the shells on the floor. But hey, free peanuts. Burgers were good and the cashier was helpful in explaining the ordering system. read more
