Very mid, very touristy. It's like a conveyor belt line. You order they put your tray out and then start prepping the drinks and the food. And it just keeps on going very quick and very fast service.You pay when the food is ready and it's usually really quick . The menu is really small so it's really fast to get your food. It's on the pier a very touristy spot so lots of guest so expect long lines if the weather is good. Don't worry the line is fast though. The pigeons are insanly annoying and fat . there are so many pigeons in the dining space. If you drop a fry on the floor you best believe that they're going to keep bothering you and being in your space until they get it. If you think ivar's is just for tourists- hold your judgment. I came in for lunch on a weekday afternoon and was SO pleasantly surprised. The menu board was very clear which made deciding what to order easy. The service really made my experience 10/10! I wish I had gotten the name of the woman who took my order (around 1pm on 3/9). She really was a doll. The food was SO good. I got the jumbo prawns and chips and chowder. All wonderful. Service was exceptional and the food was good. The coconut prawns and dipping sauce were our favorite. Got the cod fish and chips and they were just okay. I've been coming to this Ivar's for a few years. Or when they run the Seahawks Blue Friday specials. I've always picked it up to go and take home to hubby. But their dining room does look clean & pleasant. The staff is always friendly & efficient. I've never had a problem with my order. The blue Friday specials change a little each year but they're normally a pretty good deal. Regular prices are a little spendy for "fast food" but the quality of food is very good. If you've never been I would highly recommend getting a cup of their clam chowder & an order of their fish and chips. read more

This place has been our go-to place for fish and chips for many years now. The staff is very friendly and welcoming, especially Lisa. The restaurant is pretty roomy and bright, the music is the 60s. We always get the cod fish and chips and also the wild salmon platter. The platter comes with wild rice, cornbread and cole slaw. Great shared. A very bad experience on my last visit. The cook refused to complete my order even though both waitstaff told him it was incomplete. He even came out and looked in the bag to see half an order. Ivar's in Seattle came highly recommended by friends and locals as one of Washington's top seafood restaurants, so when my parents visited from Colorado, I was genuinely excited to share what I expected to be an exceptional dining experience. Unfortunately, what we received was the complete opposite, easily one of the worst restaurant experiences of our lives. From the moment we sat down, the service was disorganized and slow. We understood the restaurant was busy, but it took far too long for a server to even come to our table. When he finally did, he brought an incorrect number of water glasses and some of those glasses had nothing but ice, no water at all. We placed our food and drink orders right away since we'd already been waiting, but nearly 20 minutes later, the only drinks that arrived were two drinks we didn't even order. When our food finally came, it was another disappointment. Our appetizer came out alongside our entrées instead of beforehand, parts of the order were completely wrong, and we had to send food back. The blackened salmon salad was unappetizing, the salmon was cold, the lettuce was limp, and parts were soggy and dark green. My husband's soup and clam chowder weren't any better, his salad had the same limp lettuce, and his chowder was barely room temperature. After sending back the incorrect items, it took another 20 minutes for the rest of the food to arrive, and by then, the meal was already a disaster. The final frustration came during checkout, our bill was processed on the wrong ticket, and after we'd already paid and were getting ready to leave, the server stopped us to say he needed to "fix it" and charge us more. We left feeling disappointed, frustrated, and frankly embarrassed that this was the place I had chosen to show my parents after hearing so many great things. This was not just a bad night... it was a complete failure in service, food quality, and basic organization. We won't be returning! read more

Ivars is a local institution. I grew up eating it with my family and it has a special place in my heart! I think the full boat meal is a pretty good deal and a good amount of food for our family of 3. I also like the prawn and chips, the prawns are surprisingly a big size! A Seattle classic. Portion sizes are a little on the small side but their fries, at their best, are my favorite in the city (at least, compared to any chain.) Nothing life-changing here but the food is consistent and tasty. I've tried much of the menu and while nothing was notably disappointing, I'd personally advise sticking to the tried and true - cod fish & chips and classic chowder rather than salmon options. There's a reason they're out here selling their classic chowder in bulk to other places. Again, not amazing, but consistently satisfying. If you are a huge fish and chips connoisseur, might not impress. Once had a friend come up from California for a week, going around trying a number of Seattle's most popular/highly rated restaurants with a bunch of friend. Their conclusion - of all the things they tried Ivar's was the most "worth it." Which may say more about Seattle food than Ivar's but I digress :) If you're visiting the city from out of state, give it a try! Good excuse to visit the pier and a ~10 minute walk from other downtown attractions such as Pike Place Market, the SAM, and the big wheel. I've always enjoyed Ivar's fish and chips and the white clam chowder and cole slaw. But over the last year, Iver's has increased prices by a whopping approx. 30%. I used to order two 4-piece fish and chips and 1 chowder and 1 cole slaw and the total bill then was under $30. Today I ordered two 3-piece FnCs and the same extras and the bill, with no tip, was $40. Who is the marketing genius that came up with this outrageous increase? My advise, stay away from Iver's. I really love Ivar's and on my way home from a business trip I had to make a stop here at a location I haven't been to yet. I wish I could have said it was more than just okay, but I was a bit disappointed. The service staff was very kind and friendly. The tables were clean and nothing was out of place. However, my fave order of clams 'n chips just didn't do it for me this time. I'm thinking they were a tad undercooked and perhaps contained less actual clam which caused them to lack the chew or bite I wanted from those clams strips. The result was was really just felt like eating deep-fried dough. Because I love their red pepper sauce and tartar sauce, I fought my way through those dough balls and fries, loading them up with sauce. The good news is their fries are still really good. Will I be back to an Ivar's? Yep. However, I'm hoping this was a one off and not a sign of the times. This Ivar's location is the one that my dad and I go to every time we would come up to Seattle. The service here is what keeps us coming back. The staff is always high energy and friendly, ready to answer questions, and make recommendations. The space is small, but has a lot of seating, and there's always a crowd when I've been in. I usually order a cup of chowder and fish & chips, but the last time we came in, we wanted to order a bunch of things, and the man up front recommended us the Full Boat Special, which ended up being a better deal for us. He was nice enough to also include another drink with the meal. Ivar's chowder is always consistent, thick, and packed with clams. I get it every time. The fish is good, not too oily, but the breading does get stuck on my fingers so much, that it won't come off with a napkin, but gets stuck on that instead. Not a huge deal if you have wipes or wash your hands afterwards. If you're with another person or in a group, the Full Boat Special is definitely the deal to get. It comes with ten pieces of fish which was more than enough, and a huge basket of fries, coleslaw, and a drink. For the price, it's pretty good quality, and leaves me feeling full. I've only ever been to one other Ivar's location, because this one is just that consistent. read more

For 7 years I have been patronizing this ivars location. What happened tonight is unacceptable for the prices ivars charges. I ordered a Togo order of white clam chowder in a bread bowl and a bowl of red chowder. I also ordered halibit and chips. The cashier to the people packing my order were friendly,efficient and attentive. When I got home the food was awful and I would give the food an F grade if possible. The bread bowl was stale, the 2 chowders were watered down and the halibut and chips was dried put and super fishy smelling and tasting. I called ivars on aurora and ask to speak to the manager on duty. The manager didn't side with me or believe my side of the story and thought I was making everything up about the bad food. This is horrible and unacceptable and I may not return to ivars again. read more

Really impressed! I ordered online and picked up in the store well before the estimated pickup time. They gave me a compostable fork, napkins and plenty of tartar sauce with my fish and side caesar salad. I knew I was taking a risk by subbing out the fries but was pleasantly surprised.
