Ugh, I think I've turned into one of those people. That type of person that bites into a burger and unconsciously has to compare said burger to In-N-Outs. Please forgive me. But In-N-Out is the one to beat in this town and I have to agree that I prefer In-N-Out's animal style above Five Guy's. That's not to say that Five Guy's was even close to terrible, or deserving of 1 star like other people on here seem to think. The burger was just ok; the free added toppings were a nice touch. The menu has the option of "little burgers" too, but know that the little burgers are actually normal-sized; they just have one patty compared to two in the regular burger. The little cheeseburger is $4.29 compared to a cheeseburger w. two patties for $5.79. The fries were delicious though. They weren't as crispy as I normally like it, but they were still thick, salty deliciousness. I would come back for those next time. They give you a lot of fries, which I would expect considering a large costs $4.99. They also offer cajun style fries. Oh and free peanuts to munch on while you wait for your food. As for parking/location, yeah.....I think other people's reviews pretty much have that covered. Decor is simple, staff is friendly, and it didn't take long to get the food. I also appreciate that the place employs quite a few people. But let's face it, Five Guy's might be knocking on the west coast's door, but being as they are on In-N-Out's turf, they might need to do more about the price to get an answer back. read more

OK so I'll preface with this: I get that covid-19 has affected all of us in negative ways, especially local businesses and particularly restaurants. I have worked a good portion of my adult life in the restaurant and retail industry, I know how hard, how frustrating it can be. That being said, the way I was treated at Five Guys tonight was ridiculous. Tonight I was that guy. You know, the customer that walked in near closing time. Trust me, I didn't wanna be that guy but here I was, being that guy. I have 3 kids at home that wanted Five Guys so off I went, trying to get take out burgers near closing time. I showed up at 7:55pm. They close at 8:00. Cringe. I check, the open sign is on, I see a customer being rung up, I decide to head in. I'm guessing from the time I pulled in to the time I walked in was maybe 2 minutes since I had to dig out my mask and get my phone off the cradle. I figure I walked in the doors at roughly 7:57pm. So I stand in line, looking at all the awards and other decorations adorning the walls while I wait for the guy in front of me to finish ordering. The cashier girl and one other girl cooking plus myself and the other customer were the only folks in the store. Here's where it gets interesting. Once the cashier is finished with the customer in front of me she gets my attention and tells me they are closed. I thought I misheard her and said "what?" She spoke up and said "I'm sorry sir, we are closed." Not sure I was hearing what I was hearing, I tuned around and pointed at the open sign, which was still on, and said "oh ya? Why is the open sign still on?" to which she again replied "we closed at 8:00 I just haven't turned it off yet." Now I'm sure. Now I'm sure I'm getting pissed off. I pull my phone out of my pocket, it says 8:01pm. I start walking toward the front door and held my phone up and said "no, you want to close early I guess because it's 8:01 now and it was before 8:00 when I walked in here." She stared, I left. I won't be back. If there's one damn thing you don't do in food and retail work is open late or close early. It is unacceptable from a management perspective. You open and you close on time. When you're the employee that has to make food late, it sucks, I've been there. Many times. I hated it, but I also did my damn job. That's the funny thing some kids don't seem to get about jobs, you don't have to like them but you do have to do them and if you don't, someone else will. Managers and customers don't have to care if you like doing the job, they only care that you do them because one of them wants to buy a product and the other one wants to sell a product and if an employee screws that process up, neither of them are happy. I'm sure not. Given everything going on this last year I'm betting the owners and managers wanted to sell me enough food for a family as much as I wanted to buy it so it really sucks that kid chose to do that. read more

I feel like I should be more loyal to Five Guys since I'm from Nashville, TN and I like to see Eastern companies make it out West (fingers crossed for Chik-Fil-A and maybe even Cracker Barrel some day!) Five guys tastes pretty darn good, but it's more expensive than it should be which considering the majority of its business will come from poor students comparing it to His Majesty the Almighty In-N-Out, I'm curious to see how it works out. C. Tonight I ate there with girlfriend and two of our female friends, and the poor girls were SHIVERING the entire time. The cold air was on (at 8pm in January) and we finally had to complain and asked them to turn the cold air down. They did.... for about 10 minutes, then when it came back on we had to leave because the girls were freezing. I understand you want us to eat and leave... but don't make it FEEL like you want us gone, or you may not get us back. So the summary is that yes, it's tasty, but you have to pay for it, and if I wanted to sit and relax and take my time with some friends, I'd rather sit at In And Out, whereas at Five Guys, I feel like they just want me in and out. read more

I tried this place out because I had heard all the hype and what not. Some even said it was better than In N Out. After hearing that, I had to give it a try. I wondered if it could top the best burgers in the world. John's Char Burger in Livermore Ca. see my review. So I came, not expecting it to top Johns. I thought it must be good to be daring enough to be next door to In N Out. The music was rather loud. I get its a burger joint...still....too loud. Maybe I am getting old. They give options, the large burger with two patties, or the small burger with one. You get to pick what condiments you want on it. All are free. I ordered the small cheeseburger, and asked for the smallest fries they had. They gave me this huge bag of fries...and buried at the bottom was the burger. I tore the bag open to get the burger out. The burger? Not too impressed. It was just like any outdoor BBQ hamburger I make myself. The fries...not too good. The smallest fries could have fed 4 adults. So I guess the hype is all about the portions?? I prefer quality over quantity. Its better than McDonalds but not even as close as good as In N Out. First thought. Pricey. Just a hamburger is $5.39! By itself. Not like they are gourmet, it's fast food. I ordered the BLT. the ingredients were fresh but the bacon gross! Was super crispy with a kinda burnt flavor. So crispy it was turning to sand in my mouth. The fries were the best part. They were ok. I don't like that they don't have a combo special all wrapped up in one price. Everything is a la cart. This burger was off the hook good. I got mine with everything plus jalapenos+++ Awesome. I can honestly say that it brought back some good childhood memories of when I was a kid and we would hit a local diner for a burger. Cook loved us and would load them up, any way we wanted. Burgers are good and you can make them with all the toppings you like. I think they're on par with In-and-Out taste-wise. They're "drier" if that makes sense, so I have less of a "hangover" later. The fries are thick-cut and may not be everyone's taste. They have their merits imo, but probably aren't very good to go. The main beef I have with this place is their location/parking. Come here at lunch? Forget it. You need to park across the street. We choose not to come here sometimes because we don't want to deal with it. No drive through. read more

Five Guys is my favorite place to dine at when I am in the mood for a double patty cheeseburger with everything on it. The cheeseburgers are huge and always served nice and fresh. Five Guys has great food, but the worsttttt customer service. I paid $7 for the large fry cuz they're freakin bomb and felt like splurging. But I got a bag full of fry crumbs. After the first couple times I asked them and was told they'd just make some more real quick and waiting 20 more minutes, I started getting annoyed. The chocolate banana shake I ordered was really delicious. I also got fries and a bacon burger. While the food was pretty good, I didn't have a memorable experience. It's fries, burgers and shakes. The location was dirty and packed because of a local youth conference. It took a long while to get my good, but it was expected since there were so many people. read more

I come here often and I really enjoy the food. The French fries are the best i'm town! But what's more is the management is outstanding. The manager Anthony is very friendly and remembers his customers. You can tell he enjoys his job and takes good care of his employees. The burgers here are awesome. They are huge, flavorful and well worth the price. My favorite thing to get is the grilled cheese and then I add a patty and all the toppings. It ends up being the same thing as a burger but cheaper and so good! The fries are average in my opinion. It is nice, however, that they give you a GENEROUS amount! My husband and I went and had lunch on the 1st. I had eaten at a Five Guys once before. But I must say, I was still not impressed. It was one of the WORST burgers that I have ever had. The entire thing was mush. There was no texture to it, even the bacon on it, had a mushy texture, even the fries had no texture. They were not crisp at all. The entire meal did not seem to have any flavor either. The patties on the burger were thin, and seemed like they had been worked to death, and the meat looked a little grey as well. And they are expensive, you have to buy everything separately. For what my husband and I got, it would have been better to go to In-N-Out, and in the end we would have got better food, and spent less money. When my sister told me a Five Guys had opened in Redding, I was so excited to have a different option than just In n Out (and I love In n Out) just to change things up from time to time. I eagerly tried out the burger and fries. Maybe my expectations were set too high because I was disappointed. While a good burger, for the price and taste, I would definitely pick In n Out. What happened to the good burgers they used to have? There is no substance to them, no chew at all. When you take a bite it's like it dissolves in your mouth and not in a good way, it feels like there is just nothing to it, you barely have to chew it and it's gone. The buns disappear and the meat is like it's loosely packed to save the amount of meat they are using, probably to compensate for the rising cost of beef but guess what?... My cost of a wholesale patty only went up .10 cents for a quarter pound patty so I'm not sure they can justify the increase of price and loosely packing their patties to offset the cost increase in beef and I guarantee they can get them cheaper than I can, so what's up with that, 5 Guys? The prices have almost doubled! A single burger with fries and a water was over $15.00 and I walked away feeling like I needed a snack. I have no problem paying a premium price for a good burger but 5 guys no longer sells good burgers, they are just bewildering to eat because of the no substance to them. For $15.00, go to Red Robin, their burgers are huge and you actually have to chew them because the patties are huge. You leave feeling stuffed, unlike 5 Lies who should sell snacks on the way out the door because their food won't fill you up. Or go to In n out, it will cost about $7.00 a person for a burger, fries and a drink and their burgers actually have substance. Good luck. read more

I can't believe all the sub-par reviews of this restaurant. I went there and I had a Great time. The French fries were fresh (they told you were the fries they cooked that day came from) and there were so many delicious free toppings. I got the cheeseburger with everything besides mustard but I added BBQ sauce. The burger was HUGE and tasty (kind messy but that's how I like my burgers). The atmosphere was awesome the workers were really friendly and happy and would sing and dance around. The facility was really clean and well kept. They had free peanuts for snacks. The big rival.. Five guys verses In-N-Out. Instead of comparing the two, I'll tell you about Five Guys. Five Guys is a little pricey. For a small cheeseburger, little fry and regular drink it will run you about $10. They have excellent customer service- you'll often hear them singing too. They are VERY generous with their fries. They fill up your container then dump another helping into your bag. The Cajun fries are delicious- not too spicy. They have yummy hotdogs and great hamburgers. The burgers are pretty thick and it comes with many unique toppings for free! They also have a cool fountain drink with 100s of combinations. They also have free peanuts as well. Wow, be prepared for a very cold and sterile environment. It was freezing in this place. I asked the cook if he would turn down the air conditioner and he said, "It infringes on my rights." I said, " You have rights?!" I could not believe what I just heard, it infringes on my rights?! I remember being a roofer here in Redding I had no rights, I had to work to get paid that's all. At 5 years of age I picked prunes on my hands and knees, worked in an apricot dry yard and picked cherries for 8 - 10 hours a day for $5. Come on, rights? It's no wonder this country is such a mess, when you have rights in a fast food restaurant because it might get too hot! Then they want $15 an hour. Nope not with the rights you have, be happy you get a paycheck. I will say though, the food was great. This was the first time visiting since they first opened and this visit was much better, well that is the food was much better. When I saw all the reviews that compared Five Guys unfavorably to In N Out, I thought the comparison wasn't that useful since they seemed like different types of places. But after eating here, I have to agree that In N Out is better. I loved the concept of free toppings for the burgers, but I'd rather pay for them and have them be better quality. The grilled mushrooms and grilled onions were especially unappealing. The complimentary peanuts strike me as an odd, but not bad, idea. I was glad we had ordered a regular sized fries to share, as they threw about twice as many fries into the bag as was held by the cup. At first this caught me off guard but when I saw how much everyone was having, hey it's cool the food is always hot and yes the fries are killer.
