We visited this poorly managed establishment on Saturday, 6/13/2020 around noon. There needs to be a re-evaluation if their process, and the Caucasian female supervisor/black hat (who is of more voluptuous stature). Let me except explain. We ordered 2 burgers, 2 fries, and two sodas. The burgers were supposed to be with mustard. The cashier didn't read the order back. I should've made her, and maybe I wouldn't be writing this review. On our receipt, the only thing wrong was 1 soda, which I hadn't noticed. As my order # kept being passed (5 times to be exact, at the end), I started to get irritated. It took around 20 minutes for them to make 2 bacon cheese burgers and 2 fries. While I was waiting, the black hat supervisor was training an employee. However, as numbers higher than mine were being called, I noticed two burgers that the trainee had started to reach for mustard, to which the supervisor questioned and said 'mustard' was a mistake. In the response to the trainee's question of should we ask, the black hat supervisor stated how no one orders mustard, they are always mayonnaise. Further commenting, I'll explain later. I actually thought that maybe it was someone else's, even tho I knew better from the icy chill and terrified looks of the crew. When my order was finally called (by a male worker), it was with only one soda. When I questioned, stating it was supposed to be two. The female standing by the area if the completed orders said it was only one, and told the make employee to walk away and not engage. So he scurried away and heir his back to me. I made a comment that it was supposed to be a double order, and the cashier needs to listen better. I then perked in the bag, and asked for ketchup, only to be told they had none - even tho I had seen them being given out. When I got to our hot, dirty outdoor table, my husband asked where was the other drink, and other fries? I asked him to repeat. When he did, I then proceeded to up my burger that gas so much mayonnaise on it... and it was cold. I became so angry, because prior to my order, I had not been rude, had waited patiently (inside and near the pick up area), but was treated extremely rude when I got my order. I didn't even complain when I was asked if I was waiting on an order. When I said my number, there was an 'oh, here it is.' Yes. I threw it back at them, said it was supposed to be mustard and to throw it it the trash. The back hat said, great that she would. I sent my husband back to get our money. When my husband asked for a refund, as the order was wrong, and missing an order of fries. The black hat supervisor gave him attitude, saying she didn't understand why putting mayonnaise on it was a big deal, that it wasn't. She also tried to say we didn't ask for mustard, for two fries, until she saw the receipt. Then she gave more attitude, saying she wouldn't refund the soda as we took it. My husband pointed to it on their counter - unopened. Yes. We received a refund - still pending. However, this has been one of the worst establishments I've ever visited. I've been a Five Guys patron for decades (and visited from East Coast to West Coast). This supervisor needs re-training, because she is lazy and has poor customer service and poor management skills. She should not be training anyone any. The crew, again, looked terrified. There was no friendly vibes. It was quiet and uncomfortable. A complete opposite of other comp establishments. And, there were others complaining. AND YES, putting mayonnaise on a burger that's supposed to have mustard is BIG deal when you DESPISE MAYONNAISE! You can't scrape that taste off, and it would have to be remade. She definitely wouldn't have, because she wouldn't even admit it was her fault. I know, she knows, and so does the crew. Door-dash dropped the ball on my order and to make a long story short, that dasher stole my my delivery and probably ate in her car. I placed the order to have it delivered by 1pm. It's my nephew's 16th birthday today and since we can't celebrate it during this pandemic, I wanted to surprise him with his fav burger joint. 5/26/2015 Not bad Burgers for a fast food Burger Place. On this visit I had a Bacon Cheese Burger w/ Lettuce tomato onion and pickles. It was a tasty burger. The bacon was not limp but nice and crispy just the way I like it. The french fries are cooked well tasty and season just right and an order of fries will feed two. First of all I would like to state that Five Guys was one of my FAVORITE burger places to frequent whenever I had the time to get to the location. Having said this, I have grown more and more disappointed with how this location is conducting its business. Before getting into detail, I would like to explain to you all that I have worked in 2 separate food industry businesses during this pandemic. Now to my issue with this particular Five Guys chain. About a week or week and a half ago I was really craving a Five Guys burger and I notice that it's getting close to 9 PM. I arrive at 08:30 and the location is closed, I check the door and their hours of operation state that they close at 10:00 PM and because of pandemic reflex I check their hours on my phone and I see that it says 08:00 PM. I'm disappointed but understanding, I haven't checked their hours in a while and I've usually gone during lunch hours so I didn't need to check hours for a while. Fast forward to today, approximately a week to a week and a half after the incident, and my wife who also works in customer service/food industry is coming back from work and I'm craving a Five Guys burger again. I quickly check the time and it's 07:00 PM, and I think "Excellent, I still have time to get a burger because their hours of operation end at 08:00 PM!". She gets to Five Guys and the lights are off and the doors are locked. There is an employee inside so naturally just to confirm she knocks on the door to ask if they closed early for some reason but the employee completely ignored her. She lets me know what happened and I, thinking that the store should be closing 8 PM, decide to check on my phone and now it say hours of operation are 11 AM to 5 PM. First of all closing at 5PM is not good for any food service business because people who usually work regular hours get off at 5PM. So you've reduced your clientele substantially, especially during the pandemic where businesses are suffering from losses. Also as I mentioned before due to my experience in the industry, I know that most businesses that are closing earlier due to "cleaning that meets pandemic parameters" (My store closed earlier but we still had the same amount if time to clean and close the store as before the pandemic.) are full of it and they're trying to cut costs by putting less people on the clock which negatively affects employees morale because they're doing the same work in less time with less hours weekly that means less pay. I'm sorry to say that this chain has lost my business. I would say that I would try again in a week to a week and a half but I worry that knowing that they close at 5PM, I will get there at 4 PM only to look up that they changed their hours to close at 2PM... read more

I know these guys are expensive and it has been a while since I was here last, probably because of how expensive they are. I ate at the San Marcos location about 9 months ago and was really excited to see a more convenient location opening in Poway. Well, it's open. Well, it's a disaster. I give it a year, tops. The simple menu is the same, as one would expect for a franchise operation: burger, cheeseburger, bacon burger, hot dog, fries and fixins on top of aforementioned protein choice. No chicken nuggets or shakes or other gimmicks. That part was the good part and same as my initial experience in San Marcos. Now the shitty part: it is loud. Dangerously loud. OSHA level loud. Everyone working is screaming, shouting, singing along with the blaring tunes (note to management: it's supposed to be BACKGROUND music, fools). It's so bloody loud you cannot communicate with the cashier and they're totally in your face trying to hear you. It's painfully slow. I counted 12 workers either behind the counter or out in the seating area. I have no idea how many more are behind the scenes in prep, etc. but I did see a few through the doors in back. They are all yelling unintelligent shit that really has nothing constructive to do with the operation, but it sounds official. Then they stumble all over each other. (Another note to management: An immense labor cost that could be more efficient and productive with half the people.) Then there is the loudmouth woman behind the counter who I guess is the expediter. She yells more stupid shit and puts little useless stickers on the foil wrapped burgers. Another operative puts them in a sack and then yells the order number. But nobody can hear their order called out over all the yelling. Seriously, I've never heard such a din. I honestly believe that OSHA would require some form of hearing protection for the workers and patrons. The funny part is that everything is made to order, so all the yelling and marking and stickers is nonproductive and just adds to the cacophony of confusion. Thankfully, there is ample outdoor seating in addition to the indoor seating. I could barely stand waiting what seemed forever to get my sack of burger (singular) and get the hell outside to the relative peace and quiet of the traffic at the intersection of Poway Road and Community. The burger was ok. Not bad, but not $9.00 for a cheeseburger and soda level of ok. I'll never go back. I'll schlep to the quiet but busy San Marcos location or just go to in and out, which is less than a mile up Community road. No biggie, I figure this 5 guys will be closed soon enough. There's tons of quiet competition in the immediate vicinity. If I want loud, I'll crank up my stereo Marshall stack with twin 4x12s and channel Eddie Van Halen. I'll then scream order numbers over the feedback of my guitar and save the $9 for a ho-hum burger, but enjoy the same ambiance. Wow. read more

Really fun atmosphere and I had the privilege of meeting two super upbeat and friendly employees. A special shout out to Latoya & John. I ordered a little cheeseburger, that was far from little. Total cost (w/ tax) was $5.72. Toppings are included and I ordered my burger "all the way" (Mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, mustard) & then jalepenos (bc I'm Mexican. Gotta have spicy!) The burger came on a sesame bun and it did not disappoint. The meat was perfectly cooked and all the toppings complemented the burger nicely. I'm not a huge meat person but this place definitely satisfied my hamburger craving tonight! Fun facts: -they have free peanuts that you can eat while you're waiting for your food and you can throw your shells on the floor if you want (I didnt bc Id feel like an a$$hole. Service was quick, lots and lots of options...you can have a regular hamburger, cheeseburger, etc (2 patties aka double), or the minis (one patty aka single). Toppings are all free and include: onions, pickles, tomatoes, lettuce, jalapenos, green peppers, mustard, ketchup, BBQ sauce, A-1, mayo and more I'm sure I can't remember. The fries also come regular or cajun style too. I have heard this place get compared to oftentimes with In-n-Out and have even surpassed them in some people's opinions. In accordance to the new COVID lifestyle, finding places with online order and curbside pickup is a must. Five guys has a really good website that allows you to easily customize 20-ish toppings and choose delivery, store pickup or curbside pickup. The burgers are over $8 but it's worth it if you're into all the available toppings. I actually had a little fun customizing it to the point where the burger ended up being more of a massive ball of compressed together toppings. Just make sure to eat it right away. The burger is wrapped in foil to keep it all together but with all the moisture trapped in there, it will start to get soggy if you wait too long. The fries have the option of coming tossed in a Cajun spice which gives it a nice flavor. The fries themselves are on the thick side but not to the point of steak fries. Be prepared to have all your fries mostly dumped in the to go back and have to go dig for them though. Overall the food is good and I don't have much issue with that. What I did have a big issue with is the service at this particular Poway location. I arrived at the designated curbside pickup time for my order and per their instructions, I messaged them after I arrived. As I waited in my car, my pickup time came and another 30 minutes passed. During which, I received absolutely no communication from Five Guys letting me know the status of my order or if they were actually working on it. Eventually, I had to go into the restaurant to flag someone down which defeats the entire purpose of online ordering and curbside pickup. When I explained my situation, I didn't receive any explanation or apology, I was just told to go back and wait in my car and they'd bring it out. In the end, it took me over 45 minutes to get my food. It was a very very frustrating experience and not worth it. I won't be going back to the Poway location and I do not recommend it. read more

We ordered Patty Melt & regular fries for a total of about $12. The Patty Melt was crushed / smashed and the fries were limp and the smallest order I have ever gotten from a Five Guys visit. If I could give this place negative stars I would. Paul ( apparently the GM) is very rude and not helpful whatsoever. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT order any delivery from this place. Paul said delivery drivers mess up all the time and either do not make the delivery, or they eat the food themselves, there in their dining room. Don't call to ask for help with an order either... Apparently "it's not their fault" and they "can't do anything about it." So... we went there to pick up the same order on our own and the same girl who was rude to me on the phone, before the GM was, was talking crap about us when we walked in... Wow, what a great place, with great employees who talk crap about their customers after they get off of the phone with them. I guess they didn't think we would still want food from them. Here's an honest and fair review: 1. Hamburgers are super fresh and the taste is hella better than In-N-Out on any given day. 2. The fries need to be re thought through because it was soggy and salty and not crisp on the outside and light in the inside. 3. Cost. It cost me $30 for 2 little cheeseburgers, 1 regular Hamburger, 1 large Fry and 3 regular drinks. WOW not what I was expecting to pay. Never the less I loved the taste of their burgers and am sticking with it. I can totally avoid the fries and drinks like I know I should.
