My wife tried their new Cinnamon Apple Crisp Pancake Slam and loved it! She ordered scrambled eggs cooked dry & they were cooked perfectly and good bacon. I ordered the Cali Club Sandwich again (Roasted turkey breast, ham, Applewood-smoked bacon, Swiss cheese, fresh avocado, mayo, lettuce and tomato on toasted 7-grain bread) and again, it was delicious. I have taken time from my last dining experience to write this. I was furious and disappointed. I WAS a frequent diner at this place for the past 3 months 3 times a week average. Fast forward to a week ago. I ordered a meal grits with bacon and coffee. The grits came, the bacon came along with coffee. The bacon was ROOM TEMPERATURE. I promptly requested the server to please replace my bacon because that is not proper temperature for food. I continued to eat and drink my coffee. No bacon. By the time the bacon came, I was paying for my meal. Server removed the bacon from my bill and I left. I don't know what is going on in the back with the cook. It is UNACCEPTABLE. I've worked with executive chefs and I know better, and so should he. I had defended Denny's to my colleagues and friends in the past, however not anymore. We were immediately seated upon arrival but we had to wait a little for our server to come by and introduce himself. He was friendly and professional. I assume he was juggling several tables. The decor is your classic diner with booths and tables. The menu is extensive so there's something for everyone. The food came out within a reasonable time and was hot and tasty. The portions are decent compared to other restaurants. I loved my pumpkin pecan pancakes and Minute Maid smoothie and may come back for more soon ;) We left happy and full. Arrived yesterday and was seated promptly at a large booth which we all appreciated. The server arrived promptly and took our order. Food came out relatively fast (seems to be normal at Denny's). I do wish my children's orange juice would have been filled to the top since the orange juice doesnt come with free refills and we did have to ask for an to go box twice, but overall decent/average service, nothing to write home about. Unbelievably, I've never reviewed my favorite Denny's spot, so today will be that day. This Denny's is located in Rancho Bernardo specifically on Bernardo Center Drive close to a Firestone, Rubio's, and just steps away across the street from a 7-11 and Jack in the Box. What I really enjoy about this Denny's is the community it resides in because there are a lot of retired military, which will be evident during Veterans Day and you'll see how many take advantage of the free Denny's breakfast. The restaurant has plenty of parking in their private lot and street parking. There's a duck pond closeby where you can walk off the calories you consumed. The decor is classic diner with old pics hung on the walls; booths, tables and chairs, and bar seating; there's a tv that you could catch news, and arcade games where you try to grab prizes. What I really enjoy about this Denny's is the friendly and customer service oriented employees, who genuinely appear to enjoy their jobs. I was prepared to give a high rating, but today I was irritated by the Latino lady server who seemed concerned about me taking pictures of the menu. When I explained that I write reviews, she suddenly didn't seem too concerned. The main reason why I'm a fan of Denny's is its value for your money when it comes to their food. I especially enjoy eating breakfast at all Denny's. Today, I stopped by because I had to drop off my car for service at a local auto shop and this restaurant is just a short walk from the auto shop. I highly recommend that you download the Denny's app because you'll earn rewards and discounts, which I was taking advantage of today. I ordered one of their new breakfast items, which was their Salted Caramel Banana Pancake Slam. For an affordable $14.59 plus the 20% coupon from the app, I got to enjoy a heaping amount of food. This breakfast slam comes with two buttermilk pancakes topped with vanilla cream, fresh banana slices, and salted caramel; it's served with eggs made your way, crispy hash browns, plus your choice of bacon of sausage. The salted caramel banana pancakes were like a dessert, it was rich, and extravagantly delicious especially with the syrup. I highly recommend that you ask for scrambled eggs with cheese, which I learned from my daughter who learned from her boyfriend. I intend to order my eggs that way from now on. The hash browns were cooked crispy, golden brown and they eat really well with everything. The sausages were cooked exactly how I like them and were savory delicious. What I like to do to add a little kick, I put Cholula hot sauce and ketchup over the hash browns and eggs, and place this same concoction on the side to dip the sausages. I honestly have never been disappointed with any of their breakfast dishes. I so can't wait to hit that 55 and over Senior Citizen Denny's Discount age because I'll finally be able to get more value for my hard earned money. First of all they seriously need to update their +55 menu. No fruit, no salads just breakfasts, a salmon dinner for $12.99 and chicken fried steak? It was lunch time... The person I was meeting was also +55 and we weren't planning on staying long We just were going to do a meet and greet. He said he wasn't really hungry and was just going to get a grilled cheese sandwich but couldn't find it anywhere on the menu. The place is very big and maybe there were 4 or 5 other customers it was pretty empty. After a very long wait the waitress finally came back to take our order. We asked if they a had the kids menu so we were back to waiting again... When she finally came back we asked if they had grilled cheese, she said yes. I ended up getting a kids meal since there was nothing small on the regular menu. I got 2 chicken tenders that were pretty much the size of taquitos. I got a glass of water and he got iced tea and my chicken tenders came with a few fries. I asked for the fries well done. When we finally got our food I was shocked how undercooked the fries were and how tiny the grilled cheese sandwich was. It was no more than a little more then a half piece of bread with maybe two slices of cheese. I could barely see it. The waitress never came back so again I had to go up to the front and ask for the bill and a to-go container. She was too busy chatting to the other customers. I was taking the fries home with me I'm throwing them in my air fryer since they were so undercooked When we finally got the bill I was shocked $27??? It also said it was a combo of a grilled cheese and soup. I took the bill up to the front and told them that they made a mistake. We only got a grilled cheese sandwich that didn't come with any sides and we didn't order any soup. She told us it doesn't matter it's still the same price. Really then why didn't you tell us that when we ordered the grilled cheese sandwich??? Are you ready? NINE DOLLARS???! $9 Are you kidding for a pathetic tiny little grilled cheese sandwich that came with nothing. Well I will no longer be going to this Denny's anymore. I love that they have an outdoor seating area nicely shaded with lights above We wanted to be outside but it was so hot so the shaded area was perfect I love love love that they offer Mimosas here! Never have I ever been to a Dennys that serves mimosas ($7) yes I was very happy to see this I had the strawberry cream French toast which was so delicious Not too sweet, creamy or cakey but perfectly cooked My daughter loved her grand slam and my mom enjoyed her French toast Our server was so attentive ! I've been to this location twice for dinner and once for breakfast. I think I prefer them for dinner. One of the reasons that people like chains like Denny's is because they are consistent. The food may not be the best quality or all that inventive, but it is cooked well and is the same every time. On this last visit, my boyfriend got a traditional Turkey dinner special. He ate almost all of it. I ordered the salmon. I didn't expect much, but I surprised at how well seasoned it was. It might have been a tad overcooked, but I didn't mind. The broccoli was steamed and salted. Joe thought that the broccoli was "boring," but I liked it. I asked for a side of mac and cheese. It was actually pretty good. I expected mushy and flavorless, but it had some textured and had a pleasant cheesy flavor. I didn't care for the "garlic" bread. I don't call lukewarm bread with butter and garlic salt "garlic" bread. I regretted eating that. The servers here are always in motion. They expertly move between to-go orders, cleaning, and serving. Once again, a waitress at Denny's (this time Rancho Bernardo) did not understand the simplest of requests - exchanging one item for another. I must have clarified three times that I wanted to have stuffing substituted for the mash potatoes in my Thanksgiving plate, but the waitress didn't get it and brought me extra stuffing without making the substitution - and charged me extra. It is my feeling that Denny's is not hiring waitresses with enough English comprehension skills to deal with basic interactions, which is unacceptable. It is unnerving to make a request that seems understood, only to get an unpleasant surprise on the bill - and then you have to argue your case or just give up and pay what you don't owe, which is unfair and stings. read more

Whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinner I have enjoyed every meal. The service was great too and no complaints about the inside layout. The claw machine is always there too if you like to play! Denny's hasn't been on my radar for many years. In MI, they aren't really around anymore. When visiting San Diego, we remembered that there was a nice Dennys in Rancho Bernardo. This Dennys is clean, spacious, service is spot on and it is also retro! We ate here a few times on this trip and each day, the food was great. Huge pancakes, eggs, just as ordered, tasty hash browns and a delightful fresh fruit bowl! I enjoyed a "make your own" omelet each day. Wonderful place to start the day! I don't know why but I was thinking about my teen years. My friends and I would go to Denny's because it was late and they were almost the only place open after 11:00pm. I would usually order The Super Bird. It came with turkey, bacon, Swiss, and tomatoes, all grilled between 2 slices of sourdough. I loved that sandwich. Since I probably haven't eaten at a Denny's for at least 10 years, I didn't know if they still had it. I looked it up and yes! I told my husband "let's go to Denny's!" He looked at me and said, "you have never said those words." Off we went. We pulled up and the parking lot was empty. They had lots of tents set up for outdoor seating. They even had fans installed into the tents. I was impressed. But we chose to eat inside because we can for a couple more days until the Governor shuts us down again. I ordered The Super Bird. Let me tell you it tasted better than I remember. It was delicious. The wavy cut fries were crispy and pretty darn good. My husband said his burger was really good too. Service was attentive and while we were eating the place started to fill up...meaning about 6 other parties spaced apart. The restaurant was clean. If you visit Dennys and plan on paying with your EBT that they have accepted for quit some time now, not new to how to use the system just make sure before you swipe your card that they are entering the correct total before taxes. I have had multiple instances where their employees do not input the correct total and then they can't do anything about it after you have swiped your benefits card. Either give your employees more training on how to properly execute those transactions or just don't take it if you're going to keep charging patrons the incorrect amount. That's robbery and it's not fair especially when you already don't get much for your family in the first place!
