Probably one of my favorite carne asada burritos in Poway! Lupe's Cafe is located in a tiny strip mall...drive too fast and you'll miss it. For reference, I believe it is located near Kaminski's BBQ so when you see it, slowwwwwww down, lol. I'm a carne asada burrito with sour cream kind of girl and the one served me up hit all the marks: tender, lean meat and pretty hefty in size. I also quite enjoy their rolled tacos that don't skimp on the cheese and guacamole. Yum! They also have an excellent salsa bar. Service is cordial and quick but probably best to call in your order in advance. Seating is pretty minimal so we usually get our food to go. This is a no drive thru location. They have 6 tables inside and a few picnic tables outside. It was pretty clean when I walked in. The woman that took my order was nice and the prices are reasonable compared to a few other taco shops in the area. I ordered a carne asada burrito with sour cream and 5 rolled tacos. An out/town relative was staying at the Best Western down the road, so we decided to check out Lupe's, as it got pretty good reviews. Typical local Mexican eatery, mostly geared for takeout, but with several tables for eat-in dining. The young lady at the counter was very sweet, prices decent, and our orders came out pretty quickly. The portions were generous and tasty. With the menu still the same, I expected that great meal I had all those years ago. Ordered cheese enchiladas, rolled tacos and the beef taco plate. Nothing was greasy. More bland and overcooked. Was craving Mexican and thought this was a perfect place to grab some food for lunch before a walk around Starridge park. Super close spot, it's slightly hidden in a plaza right before carriage road. They had 4 areas inside open for dine in, 4 seats at each table. A plexiglass piece hung from where they take hour order. To the right of where you order they had the reminiscent childhood 25 cents toy dispenser. Outdoors they had 3 picnic benches and a table for 2 which it looked like they shared with the liquor and deli next door. I've worked near this place for 23 years, and went today for the first time. I'm now questioning my life decisions as this was a top 2 California burrito I've ever had. (Sorry, Trujillo's by sdsu still reigns supreme). The guy that helped me was super nice, making sure my order was correct. There is a small sit down area and everyone's food looked amazing. I have been picking up food from this place for the past two years. I ordered chile rellanos combo. What I got was an egg omelet with a chili with some Mexican cheese in it. I have never had problems with Lupe's, other than mixed up orders. The cook who was on duty when I was there was not the regular cook. This guy seemed fairly young, and reminded me of a hamburger cook at Burger King. I was so disappointed in the food, and after paying $15 plus tip I simply threw it out. The Carne Asada Burrito and Bean and Cheese burritos are certainly on point, possibly the best in Poway (competing with Yesenia's). I like how there's decent beef used for their carne asada and plenty of onions and tomatoes inside the carne asada burrito. Red and green salsas are standard, legit. They have high-quality tortillas as well. When I'm very hungry I also order the Chicken Milanesa (pictured). I highly recommend this dish. It's basically fried chicken with many roasted veggies, salsa, guacamole, rice and beans. Their churros are also delicious but dangerous as one order comes with 2 full-size churros. Convenient location, easy parking, plenty of televisions inside if you prefer to eat there. Orders are ready very quickly when called in over the phone. read more
