Betrayed In-N-Out and ate here 4 times. First time for my own edification, second time was because Zachary's next door was too crowded, third time with a friend to get his opinion, and a fourth time with mom. All four guests were unimpressed. I ordered the double cheese burger all four times and all four times the beef tasted bland (but at least they're consistent). It reminded me of the frozen patties from the grocery store. The burger is wrapped in foil and it's sloppy to eat. Given the amount of beef and cheese it contained, I was hoping it would taste like beef and cheese, but it just tasted like a greasy, indistinguishable mess. If you tend to inhale your food then it might taste okay, but if you take the time to chew your food, you won't find much flavor in there. Although you can add a bunch of different condiments to it, it's rather moot if the burger itself is weak. It's a real dissapointment given all the glowing quotes and reviews they plastered their walls with. Perhaps it's an east coast flavor I don't know how to appreciate. The fries are a bit salty, but plentiful (more than enough for two hungry average sized guys). They come in a paper cup and 1/4 to1/2 of them will end up at the bottom of the bag. Fries are fries, starchy, salty, a little fatter cut than the ones at INO, nothing impressive. If you haven't eaten here before, go once to let it remind you of how lucky we are to have In-N-Outs around here. My friend and I concurred that INO's double double and the Ultmate Cheese Burger at Jack in the Box are far superior burgers. Bland name, bland burgers. Pricey too. 2 drinks, 2 fries, 2 double cheese burger, about $20. They also take a long time to cook up. Friend and I were the only patrons waiting for food and it took a solid 20 minutes, which is probably why they provide you free peanuts to munch on. I typically steer away from these kind of forums as far as writing in them. However, I get a lot of enjoyment from reading them as so many people are completely out of their minds! With that said, I had to defend this establishment after reading one comment in particular... This post is directed to the person below who said the hot dog tasted like Oscar Mayer. I eat here 2 to 3 times a week as I just moved to the neighborhood in early August. I LOVE THESE HOT DOGS!!! Love them! And, I had commented to the manager on duty one day as to how tasty they are and how I love the way they slice them down the middle and grill them so they are so YUMMY!!! He let me know they are the giant HEBREW NATIONAL, high quality, kosher hot dogs. The toppings you can put on this doggy are so various and fresh it is amazing. REAL HOT PEPPERS. Not in a jar. Please do not listen to "ONE STAR RON" from earlier today. Ron has no right calling these hard working people idiots. The employee was just trying to clean under his table. I could not believe it when I saw this person yelling and cursing at the store manager. He tried getting a free burger and because he ate all but 2 bites of his burger when he decided to let them know there was no A-1 sauce on the patty, the manager did not offer to fix the problem. After all, he already ate the burger. I was in the store when this happened and felt so bad for the manager and the girl who was cleaning the floors. She was just trying to clean a mess someone left under this guy's table. The people here are really trying hard and there is a lot of focus on service and keeping the place super clean. Not an easy task when the place is packed all day long. Anyway, you decide for yourself. But if you ask most people, they will tell you that Five Guys is really... really... good! read more

This place is always compared to In-n-Out, and it should be. The decor is almost identical, and the ordering process is just about the same. I heard that Five Guys had one of the In-N-Out execs give them their formula. As far as food, they seem similar but are very different. Their burgers are better than In-N-Out, hands down. They have better condiments, and grilled mushrooms, and the meat is better. Their fries, are awful! Worst fries I have ever had. Consistently soggy, and over seasoned. Hey, I'm a fan of seasoning but if it just tastes like flavor of salt, not so good. I gave them a few chances, but could never finish an order because they were so bad. I've stopped trying now all together. Biggest Negative - they do not have milkshakes! I'll give them 4 stars for the burger alone, but unless I'm dying for this specific burger, I'll go to In-N-Out. read more

on 12/10, S. M., who has no name and no picture and claims they are from Danville, fully slanders this place and says they had food poisoning. I ate there for lunch on 12/10 as I do every Friday and the food was fantastic as usual. I feel great and it is nearly 7pm at night. The place was packed as it typically is and I have not seen any bodies laying on Crescent Drive as I just walked down there for some pie at Shadzee's Bistro. This person obviously works for or owns another burger joint in the area. I think they really took it a bit too far as they really are hitting below the belt. I understand it is upsetting to see this place so packed and taking all the business from other local establishments (especially if you own one of those businesses?), but do you have to make up such slanderous lies and be so deceptive and hurtful? read more

I'm a pretty loyal guy. I've been eating In-N-Out burgers for years. I didn't feel the need to change. However, a friend of mine convinced me to give Five Guys a shot. I thought, "alright, I'll go here this one time and then its back to normal." Well, I've found a new normal! These guys really know how to make a burger. The meat was great and the toppings only made it better! The fries... never in my life have a seen a tall order of fries get filled and then another scoopful just thrown in the bag. I mean, I love when I finish my meal and then find a fry or two left over in the bag. It doesn't always happen. It's like a little bonus. Here it is guaranteed! I am from the east coast but left before Five Guys was invented. I love In N Out, and can fondly remember going there during High School and grabbing as many bumper stickers as I could. Then, to my 14-year old mind's delight, I would cut and paste the sticker to change " In N Out Burger" to "In N Out urge". Ooh baby, I was SUCH a radical back in the day. I am not over impressed with the Five Guys' $4.99 regular of 2 patties, the bun is meh, and the toppings if you get creative overwhelm the meat and destroy the bun. Visited Five Guys in Miami, Five Guys in Minnesota and now Five Guys in Pleasant Hill, CA and it's all good! Well to tell the truth it"s delicious! I always get the little cheeseburger and end up leaving wanting more so today I had the regular cheese burger, I was stuffed and content. YUMMY! The Burger was so juicy. Fries were very unique. Fesh cut potatoes with some skin on them still. They even have a board stating where this weeks potatoes are from... AMAZING!!! I saw someone eating a giant hot dog and it looked scrumptious. A burger with everything and fries and soda was about $10 so it was really reasonable. Especially because I had bacon and 13 other toppings on it. The toppings (they offer over 15 of them) are FREE!!!! I was a little disappointed that there were no shakes or desserts but that is about all I have left to buy at Nations. I will be back at Five Guys a lot. read more

Lots of sizzle, not much steak. 3 stars. Five Guys is set up as a fast food place. Get in line, order food, wait for food, eat food here or to go. Think of In N Out burger, and you get Five Guys. Free peanuts while you wait? See Fuddruckers. The burgers are okay, but you have to order the regular (2 patty) to get anything substantial. The bun becomes a mess if you load up on extras, mayo, mustard, ketchup, tomatoes, lettuce, mushrooms, onions grilled or not. I cut mine in half to manage it better. I see a lot of people compare Five Guys with In and Out, this is like orange and apple, thou they both make burger. In and out is more like old fashion American burger, where as Five Guys is customizable burger. Saw a line in front of the place and figured I might as well give it a try. The fries is great, quite different with potato skin on and medium scorched. The burger is truly customized, I randomly picked a combination and it turned out very delicious. Been wanting to try Five Guys for awhile now and finally got the chance to do so today. So are the burgers good? Yep, they're pretty darn tasty...BUT no tastier than a Nation's burger...in fact, they taste very similar to each other. As for the comparisons to In & Out...can't really compare the two...they're very different burgers...both delicious in their own right. Will I be going back? Probably not...like I said above, a Nation's burger and a Five Guys burger are basically the same burger...and Nation's is way more convenient for me. read more

I didn't know what to expect when I went in here. I've been hearing a lot of talk about the burger war. I tried to go in with an open mind. I didn't leave that way. Case closed. Five guys wins!!! What a great place! Such a casual atmosphere. Everyone was relaxed and laid back. The first bite of this burger sold me for life! And the fries... they just don't stop! The burgers are excellent... love all the free toppings. And the fries are amazing!!!! Huge portion sizes really make a big difference in satisfying this customer. The staff was great. Not sure why everyone is such a "critic" on here. It is a burger joint. Food is great. Service is better. The place is clean. The only problem is there is a 15 minute wait. So plan to wait for 15 minutes. Good things are worth waiting for. I have to wait 30 to 60 minutes for a table at BJ's or Outback, so what is the big deal. Everyone has their own prospective. i went for my first time with my mom.. they had really good service and food came out in about 8 min.. i tried the fries and they were hella salty so i had to take them back and ask for some lightly salted ones. then the lettuce in my burger was not uniform. it was very slopy and kept falling out. also my bacon was not good. it was crunchy but tasted nothing like bacon. it tasted like crunchy oil.. but my burger patty was good. read more

Maybe it was hyped up too much, but I'm definitely not a fan. The burgers tasted like Wendy's and the fries had too much salt/seasoning. I walked out feeling like I got an over priced Wendy's double cheeseburger. Now for the service, the man taking my order seemed new as he didn't know much, but was able to answer my questions by asking the manager on duty, which I appreciated. Also he got my shake order wrong but apologized multiple times and got me the correct one. Since I couldn't order fries or onion rings I wanted a side salad, but unfortunately they were out of it! So a questionable experience overall, and I may choose to dine somewhere different next time as there are many restaurants in this strip-mall location, plus Whole Foods across the street. As far as ambiance, they have ample indoor seating and a nice outdoor patio with music, which is partly sunshine, partly shade, and of course popular with dogs and their owners.

The portions felt quite generous and well worth the money spent. If every visit could be like this, I would come every Sunday for lunch. Back when they first opened up, the chicken was juicy and flavorful, over the years the chicken was drier and less flavorful. I finally make a trip on a Tuesday to try the tacos which are 2 for $5 on Taco Tuesday. I ordered through the App and noticed there were three options. I ordered two crunchy shredded chicken tacos and two chicken avocado al carbon soft tacos. The crunchy tacos come with a double tortilla which is great so if one shell cracks and the other holds you don't lose all of the filling. The shells were fried crunchy and the filling was tasty. Even though I am a crunchy taco guy, I liked the avocado taco more, it came with a nice slice of fresh avocado and the overall blend of ingredients produced a nice flavor. I wasn't sure how many tacos to order so I asked the Cashier how big are the tacos and she said normal. What kind of answer is that, just not helpful at all so I ordered 4 to be on the safe side. The tacos are about 4" long so slightly wider than a street taco. I will be back to this location for Taco Tuesday. Even though the customer service was lacking a bit, I know what to order. I give the tacos 4 stars and decided to ignore including the lack of service which would make my rating lower. Come for the tacos. The person who gave me my order was much nicer and offered me salsa. I liked the pico de gallo sauce too.
