Was looking forward to trying it again. Little Cheeseburger: got mine all the way, which is essentially all the toppings you would normally get on a burger. It was a decent sized burger for a small one and was filling. The patty was a little salty though. The cheese was ok and everything worked. Though my buns were a bit soggy, so my burger didn't hold too well towards the end. Large Cajun Fries: Got these to share with my friends and they were good. A bit too salty for me but we as a group enjoyed them. Overall, it was alright for a burger. Very pricey though, for my meal (plus a drink) was around $20. We ordered two burgers and two orders of fries from Five Guys, and unfortunately this was one of the most disappointing experiences we've had there. The burgers had almost no flavor, and the buns were completely soaked and falling apart before we could even take a bite. We ended up throwing the buns away and eating only the patties. Even the burger patty with cheese lacked flavor, which was surprising. I'm not sure if the issue was because we ordered takeout or if the vegetables had excess moisture, but something definitely wasn't right. We considered going back, but the parking situation at this location is hit or miss and wasn't worth the trip. First time at this Pleasant Hill location as part of a mystery shopper assignment and brought hubby along for his first experience as well. We arrived before lunch on a Saturday and easily parked on the street just a block away. The place is considered fast casual and the menu is pretty simple with a variety of burgers, hot dogs, shakes and fries. You must get the fries!? They are cut on the premise and fried twice that you get a creamy center and crispy outside. They are seasoned perfectly and the portion is generous. It is their policy when you order the regular size to get almost double the portions. We had a little cheese burger all the way which is a single patty with mushrooms, grilled chopped onions, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes and mayo. The burger is pressed so it's thin and juicy. My order included a fountain drink for the design your own Coke machine. I love the variety. We are in and saw that you can have some peanuts while you are waiting. That's cool. Wait time was around 5 minutes and their policy is no longer than 8 minutes. All I can say is that hubby loved the fries and I look forward to coming back. Yummy! read more

Nowadays, Five guys is more expensive but they cheap out on the portion of the fries. For the price that they are charging, it's ridiculous. Rarely do I eat fast food - yet I have found that Five Guys in Pleasant Hill quenches that occasional urge for a hot dog - un perro caliente - as the cashier called out to the cook at the grill. The staff is welcoming, they're on it - greeting you, taking your order & then calling out your number when your food is ready. It's a hot dog, what could go wrong? They make them with the toppings you request; light on raw onions & ketchup, nice soft bun - just a tad squished; followed by a small order of fries - which were a bit on the greasy side, especially when the server is looking at the bag, sees all the grease on the bag she's going to hand you & opts to double bag it. So how does a fast food restaurant serve fries without tons of grease - something Five Guys needs to figure out. In short love their 'perros calientes' - greasy fries not so much. Lastly, have you ever noticed that when you ask for a small drink they, fast food industry, have nothing under 20ozs? Wish all fast food places would offer a 8 - 10 ounce drink, not every drink needs to be super sized. As to the actual restaurant - the tables look semi clean, yet the chairs, at least the table I sat at, had crumbs all over them. Being a new parent during Covid times means lots of Doordash for new places and old favorites. This place is an old favorite but I think it's best to dine in instead of getting it delivered. The burgers and fries (get the cajun) are so good here, grease joint good. But when you get it delivered, each time, we see the fries spill all over the bags and everything is mushy and cold. Not the fault of the restaurant but just do yourself a favor and go eat there. I love that they give you lots of toppings for free! I'd suggest not too many toppings or your burgers will get soggy. I feel like they are the only place that isn't stingy with their fries. So many places have been so stingy with fries that a large feels like a medium or even a small. I really like the fries. And they heap them into the cup and then add some more to the bag, it's great. The hubs and I can't even finish a shared size large. They've finally added lettuce wrap as an option for their burgers, which now makes Five Guys one of our gf friendly options. A lot of burger topping options allows for customization to your own unique tastes. (I like the pickles and grilled onions.) The regular size burger is actually a double patty, so if you want just one patty, go for the "little" burger option. Ordering ahead online has been super convenient for us, too. read more

In the fast food burger world, In-N-Out is probably the favorite among the masses. Then there are chains such as The Habit and Five Guys Burgers and Fries. They seem to be competing with In-N-Out, but in reality it is more like "who will finish second behind In-N-Out". That's probably why I never ate at Five Guys until tonight. My friend and I were looking for a place to eat in downtown Pleasant Hill when we walked by Five Guys. We decided to eat there since my friend likes their food. We walked in at around 7:40pm and it was quiet, probably because of the long weekend. There were no five guys working behind the counter, only three (the rest were women). The bigger guy greeted us while we were checking out the menu. He was energetic and friendly. After a quick deliberation, I decided to order: - Bacon Cheeseburger ($8.29) customized with grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, lettuce, tomatoes, and light mayo. - Regular Fries ($4.09) We each got a small tray of peanuts and sat down. The interior was clean and well lit. Decors were similar to other Five Guys locations. We got our food in less than 10 minutes. Here's the breakdown of my burger: - The small sesame seed bun was not of quality. It soaked up grease and moisture like a sponge and fell apart midway through the meal. - American cheese was used. Personally, I did not like it. Tasted like Kraft cheese. - Patties (2X, maybe 1/3lb in weight) were cooked medium well (slightly pink in the middle). They tasted decently. - Bacon was crisp and delicious. - Produced tasted fresh. Grilled toppings were very average. Overall, the burger was just average at best. While the taste was okay, it was not well constructed. The fries were above average. They were hot and fresh. For the price, they did give you a lot. For a fast food burger and fries, $13.43 (after tax, no drink) was a little steep. I'm still glad that I gave it a try. At the least, it gave me something to write about. Sorry Five Guys, I think cheated on In-N-Out once is enough for me. I must now return to the embrace of the Double-Double and Animal Fries! BONUS MATERIAL: - Limited street parking. I have no idea how good the food is but the people working there are incredibly rude, and frankly don't seem well. I walked in and asked the lady behind the counter if I could order. She gave a blank stare and didn't answer me. I asked again and she nervously said "oh wait", gave me a 'thumbs up' gesture, and ran away. About two minutes later a man who appeared to be the manager walked over to the cash register and completely ignored me. He picked up the phone and talked into it for about three minutes. I asked if I could order, and he continued to ignore me. After he finished his conversation he hung up the phone and stared at me blankly, darting his eyes around. It was almost like I'd caught him in the act of something. For the third time, I asked if I could order. The man grunted out something that sounded like "uhh... uh", and nodded his head indifferently. I left the restaurant. I don't think I've never been treated in such a bizarre way. Quite interesting, eh? Five Guys gets a lot of hype. Yet, on Yelp, the stars are pretty evenly distributed; even number of 2s and 5s, and there's not that many more 3s and 4s. So what? Well, either you LOVE `em, or you HATE `em, or you say "ehhhhh, whatever." Count me in the "whatever" column. The burger itself is about on par with In-n-Out. Not bad, but not totally awesome either. But then, that's probably just me; there are things that make a burger taste yummy to me, and not to others. Okay, whatever. But, unlike In-n-Out, they do have a large selection of styles of burgers and fries, so bully for them. Service is kinda slow, but you can much on peanuts while you wait. There are some burger joints where I'll go out of my wait to eat there if I'm in the area (Phyllis' in San Rafael, Betty Burger in Santa Cruz, Happy Burger in Mariposa, Apple Pan in LA). They did however, forget to give us our strawberry milkshake, but made it immediately when we told the staff. The food is good for it's price. High Class American burgers, in town. Five guys best burgers and fries ever made by anyone.

I had plenty of time before my movie to have a quick lunch, so I dropped in. I knew their prices had gone up, but I was a bit shocked to see that their regular hamburger was now over $9. I opted for a 'veggie' sandwich with cheese. It's all the veggies that you can get grilled for your burger plus the cheese. When I got my sandwich, it was inedible, literally. It fell apart in my hands, everything fell out of the sandwich in little bits into the foil. If I'm going to pay $8 for essentially a grilled cheese with veggies, there should be enough cheese to hold all the veggies together. The cooks need to be trained to leave the veggies on the grill when the cheese is added, and keep them there until the cheese is melted enough to keep everything together and THEN put it on the bun. I was so frustrated that I ended up throwing the whole thing out. If I have to work so hard to eat a meal, that I feel like I'm making a fool of myself eating it in public, I do NOT go back to that restaurant. read more

I had to erase my old review that was based off my first visit because this place gets better and better and I have grown madly in love with it. Five Guys is the bomb.com. For $20 two people are grubbin on a burger that is LOADED with great toppings (and they're all fresh), a big cup of fries to share and a drink each. It really is all-American IMO. Let me elaborate the LOADED benefit because this really is what makes Five Guys incredible. Getting your burger "all the way" includes mayo, lettuce, pickles tomatoes, GRILLED onions, GRILLED MUSHROOMS, ketchup and mustard. Go "all the way" on a little bacon cheeseburger and what do you have? A bacon mushroom cheeseburger with grilled onions and the usual toppings. A burger like that costs you $10-$15 anywhere else, but here it's only $6.50 including tax. Now I specified the little burger because there is no point in getting a plain ol' cheeseburger. Their interpretation of that is a double patty. Their single patty serving is still hefty, and bountiful considering all you can add or subtract to it. Their creed regarding fries is to serve a heap in the cup and serve another heap all over the bag. A double portion, if you will. Unless you're four or more I would not recommend going large. Even regular is more than sufficient and now they have little which easily satisfies two. Being next to the theater makes for a sweet matinee afternoon or casual date night. Grab your honey and have a fun time with some great burgers and a good movie. read more
