George's is so good. Any time I'm craving a fat, juicy burger I know where to head. It's a homey spot so i always feel like I'm eating at a friends place. They're so welcoming and proud of the food they serve here. The quality of the meat vegetables and buns reflect the care they put into putting together each tasty basket. It's hard to go get a burger at any restaurant nowadays cause I always compare it to this one now so I usually have to wait until I'm hungry enough to eat a whole one so I can consume at peak tastiness. My favs so far: California burger, mushroom Swiss and a standard issue hamburger if I want a burger but don't think I can finish the additional toppings lol The fries (straight n curly) are equally delicious but we can barely finish the burgers so it's best if u get em when u have friends to share with. So i suggested ordering ahead for to go orders we waited 20ish minutes before getting our order. However the food is actually very delicious. We were in the area looking to pick up a few things and stumbled upon this burger joint. We didn't have any expectations going in, but we were pleasantly surprised--the food turned out to be delicious. I ordered a basic hamburger. I had read beforehand that they grind their own patties in-house, so I actually had pretty high hopes. When we placed our order, they asked how we wanted the burger cooked. I chose medium-rare, and it came out exactly as requested. The burger was topped with mayo, lettuce, red onion, tomato, and mustard. As I mentioned, it was delicious--the patty was the star of the show. Perfectly cooked and juicy. Next time, I think I'll ask for my burger cooked to medium--just to see how it compares. We also tried their poutine, and I'll admit--at first glance, I wasn't too excited about it. Personally, I prefer my fries to be thicker cut, and these were on the skinny side. But it ended up being surprisingly great. What really stole the show was the gravy. It reminded me of a cross between classic American gravy and Japanese tonkatsu sauce--if that makes sense. It had some sweetness and a little tang to it. That's the best way I can describe it. Whatever it was, it was absolutely delicious. Now I'm really curious to try their loco moco next time. We also had a chance to chat with the owner (super nice, by the way) and learned that the place has been around since the 1970s--which is wild. I'd definitely love to come back and try more from the menu. I noticed they also offer rice plates featuring classic Korean proteins like beef bulgogi, etc., which I'm really interested in trying next time. Long overdue review!! This place is truly a hidden gem and deserves way more recognition. My husband and I stopped by near Father's Day weekend LAST YEAR! After doing some early shopping before the crowds hit which thankfully we did because there ended up being a huge protest nearby later that day. We gave George's a try instead, since it was literally next door and I'm SO glad we did. As soon as we walked in, we instantly got that nostalgic family diner feeling. The vibe felt comforting and familiar, like the kind of diners we grew up going to as kids. John, the owner, welcomed us in like family from the moment we walked through the door. He was outside earlier watching the neighborhood wake up, gather, and prep. He still greeted us with the warmest energy once we came in. You can tell this place means a lot to the community. Regulars were walking in and John/staff already knew their orders by heart. He told us he took over from George and wanted to keep the restaurant alive, and honestly you can feel the love and care in the business. The food was AMAZING. My husband got the JJ Burger (recommended by John) and I got the bulgogi plate. Both were so good and comforting, like a real homecooked meal. I was obsessed with the banchan and definitely asked for extra and how John's wife did the prep work and her recipe! Haha. What really made this experience special though was the hospitality. John checked on us throughout the meal and made us feel genuinely welcomed. It completely turned my mood around and ended up being one of those random breakfast stops we'll always remember. The fries were nearly room temp and just everything tasted pretty standard. The meat seemed okay quality, but honestly, it's hamburger. The lettuce was okay, the tomato was standard, nothing extraordinary. Buns are soft like brioche. Food came out in those nostalgic red plastic baskets. The bulgogi sando was served on a soft roll. My only con was that the Fries and onion rings servings were on the slightly smaller size for the price. As I mentioned earlier, there's lots of off menu items served here and I'll be back to try more. The owner came around and checked on us and was very friendly.
