Cafe 1277 has opened in the Treat Towers, 1277 Treat Blvd, Ste 100. You may know the incredible husband and wife duo, Jourdan & Amy De Sanctis, as the owners of East Bay Artisan Italian Pantry & Bake Shop, so popular at the Martinez and Brentwood Farmer's Markets, or from their bakery/sandwich shop that was in Market & Main in downtown Martinez. They have opened their new craft sandwich and bakery inside the Treat Towers (Treat Blvd. & Buskirk). Let me tell you, they're bringing all kinds of deliciousness to the Walnut Creek/Pleasant Hill border! I went twice last week, it was so good! During my first visit, I ordered the Capone, a Chicago Gangster Style Italian Beef sandwich. The shaved prime rib, caramelized onion, spicy giardiniera, and Italian cheese blend on their housemade roll is so good! Dip it in the au jus, and you will be a happy camper! I paired it with their hearty and rustic minestrone. The meal was a winner, with plenty of leftovers for dinner! I brought home a cheese quiche, and OMG, it was fab! The crust was so flakey and buttery. Yum, yum, yum! On my second visit, I ordered the adult grilled cheese on their housemade sourdough. It's a blend of Brie, Mozzarella, Provolone, Parmesan, and Romano, with a layer of onion jam, jamaica relish, garlic pickles, and artisan mustard. I paired it with their yummy tomato soup. I also got another cheese quiche! Their babka is fantastic! In addition to soups and sandwiches, they offer salads and delicious round and square pizzas they sell at the local farmer's markets. Their sourdough focaccia, mini pies, scones, cookies, and brioches are all fantastic. They also have a full line-up of breakfast items served all day. On Tuesdays, Nona's Lasagna is the special, and on Wednesdays, they have their yummy macaroni n' cheese. Cafe 1277 is clean and bright, with plenty of seating. Depending on when you visit, you might see them preparing fresh pasta for their scrumptious lasagna or making delectable bread. I will sit at the counter the next time I visit to watch the show. On Fridays, they bake everything for the farmer's markets over the weekend. They also offer catering! Jourdan and Amy also partner with Joe Ngo of Hella Dac Biet Food. He's cooking in their kitchen, and you can now buy his burritos at Cafe 1277! Joe, I will meet you in person one of these days, buddy! Jourdan has some exciting ideas for future events; I can't wait! There is a paid parking lot under Treat Towers. The entrance is the first right on Buskirk from Treat. Park to the right in the dark blue section and take the elevator up to the lobby. Exit the elevator to the right, and you'll see the lovely security guard and the entrance to the cafe. You can ask when you're purchasing your lunch for a 1 hour paid validation card.

Really great sandwich (I ordered the Scarface Cuban sandwich) and friendly counter service and comfy, spacious indoor seating (and a nice open outdoor patio/courtyard area, as well). If you have room after your meal, there's a nice fresh pastry selection. It's a little hard to figure out how to get in at first: there's no access from the Treat Towers main doors on Treat Blvd. You can get in from the underground parking garage by taking the stairs or elevator up to the lobby (Cafe 1277 is there in the lobby right outside the elevator doors), or by walking in from Buskirk or Oak road via the promenade/courtyard between the buildings. Definitely worth the visit!

So the owner Jourdan, is a complete rockstar when it comes to his culinary skills. I have been buying baked goods from his stand at the farmers market in Danville for the past few years and can't explain just how excited I was when I heard that he was opening up a restaurant close to home in Walnut Creek. I would have wrote this review sooner, but I stopped by the new spot with my family on the way out of town for a week. That was my biggest mistake as it was a beautiful vacation, but in comparison, a gastronomical wasteland and all I could think about while there, was the Cubano sandwich named Scarface that I ate at Café 1277. I hardly ever write reviews, but when I find something, this amazing, I have no choice, but to want to share it with everyone... My daughter and I both ate our sandwiches so fast that we didn't get a chance to take any pictures, but my wife's incredible salad was so huge that she looked like a deer caught in the headlights wondering how she was going to eat it all and I was able to snap a picture. It was that good, so we both volunteered to help her finish it... The menu is seemingly endless and I truly can't wait to get back and work my way through it one item at a time... I'm all about food and don't throw accolades around lightly, but this place is the real deal. Do yourself a favor and get down there, you'll be glad you did...

Such a simple and delicious addition to their menu, it gets my money every time. Both the service and ambiance can change depending on the day and time, but overall our servers are usually decently friendly. It is a family restaurant so we frequently sit next to crying/screaming children. Not their fault, but a note for those looking for a date night spot. The food is great. We get the fried spaghetti squares as an appetizer every time we visit and they are always a hit, especially to those that are new and visiting. As I mentioned before, the vegan ceasar is also a favorite. For mains I like to build my own circle pizza, and others in my group like the square pies. One of my favorite things about Melos is that I can usually request vodka sauce on my dish, whether it's pizza or lasagna. This makes my experience 10x better than other places. They also have a good ranch, which is key for a good restaurant, especially one with pizza. I do wish their prices were a bit lower, but overall it is a good place to splurge a bit. We will continue to return.

We ended with tiramisu (one of the best) and the chocolate budino, perfect to wrap it all up.

Thankfully, when a location opened in Walnut Creek, I was able to try it finally. I was honored to be a guest at Pizza My Heart's Yelp Elite Party a while ago and try lots of their delicious slices! I have been back several times since. Most recently, my family was still hungry after we met up with friends at the new Bare Bottle nearby. Their kitchen was wildly backed up, and they weren't taking any more food orders. We left hungry, and Pizza My Heart was on the way to our car, so we knew exactly where to go! Pizza My Heart sells pizzas by the slice, which comes in really handy, especially when the family wants different toppings! It was already late, and we only needed a slice each, so Pizza My Heart was perfect. It was a nice surprise to see the bright yellow surfboard we signed hung up in the restaurant. My son came with me into the restaurant to order, and he was excited to spot his name that I signed on the board! After spotting the surfboard, I was warmly greeted by Marcos and was delighted because I remembered him from the Yelp Elite Party! He was so fun and helpful at the Yelp Elite Event (we even gave him a big cheer and round of applause at the YEE because he was that good!), and I was also treated to his excellent customer service again! He told me about what slices they had with a big smile and friendly demeanor. He was quick to take our order and get us our slices boxed up. Slices here are a tad on the pricier side, but I don't think you'll feel that way when you see them chock full of toppings! They offer a slice for everyone, from vegan slices to dairy-free (which I needed to order when my nursing baby had a milk protein allergy) to a hearty slice for meat lovers, which is packed with all types of meat. I've tried a variety of slices and I've never been disappointed. I love their slices that feature ricotta cheese! Yum! Thanks Pizza My Heart! We'll be back!

Observations: 1) The place is very small. They sit you outside in a very windy alley. The food gets cold within 5min or so. So capacity is very limited. 3) We ordered lemonade for kids. They serve it in short glasses filled with ice to the brim (despite our ask for "no ice"), effectively reducing the liquid volume. We paid $35 for lemonade. 4) Food is very uneventful, nothing was remarkable. Their gnocchi with meat resembled Chef Boyardee from back in college times. Not sure why this place felt so pretentious with really no substance to back it. With so many options around like Montecatini, Doppio Zero, Benvenuti, La Fontaine, etc, not sure how they are still in business. Definitely not recommended for families, and have a hard time figuring out what audience they cater to.

We originally planned to grab boba and eat at a different restaurant but when we parked the smell in the air called us to Tomatina instead. We originally came in and the older gentleman said they couldn't seat us right away and to come back in 20 minutes. We didn't mind and took a walk around the block and was seated right away when we returned and he brought us menus. A waiter came and was friendly, making sure he got the order correct. It seemed like he may have been in training. We decided to each get a lemonade, share the meatball appetizer, I ordered the pasta trio and my husband ordered the chicken parmesan. The meal started out nice with the drinks immediately coming out and the appetizer shortly after. The drinks were good, however they were out of pint glasses and came in a collins glass instead. The waiter mentioned the lack of pints and the smaller glass calling it fancy but didn't reference if we'd get a discount or a refill due to the smaller portion as a result of the glass switch. The meatballs were tender and had a good flavor. The sauce was nice and the bread was serviceable. After we finished our appetizer, there was a lack in service for at least 15 minutes. They did not clear the dirty dishes, offer water, or provide any type of check in. While we waited, my spouse had noticed a pasta entree (and a salad) was put up and was placed on top of a pizza box. He didnt think much of it until we started to realize we had been waiting longer than felt appropriate and noticed it was 3 different colors, like you'd expect for a pasta trio like I had ordered. Eventually the pasta was removed and we gave the benefit of the doubt that it wasn't my food that had been sitting out for at at least 10 minutes and they were just slow. A few minutes later, a waitress brought our entrees and they finally cleared the appetizer plates. I took my first bite and my food was cold. Not it cooled down but was still kinda warm, any food that was exposed to air was physically cold to the touch. My husband tried to flag the waitress down that delivered the food and her and another worker were talking and looking at their register with no awareness of the rest of the room. Given the service thus far, I just got up with the food and walked it over. I explained it was cold to the point where I said she could touch it (I proceeded to touch a noodle) and it's obviously too cold to be served. She apologized and said she talk the the cook/chef. My spouse watched as she went with my cold plate to the open kitchen and it was clear that she explained I said it was cold but they were not planning on remaking it and just reheating it. A trio of pastas with 3 different sauces would not be reheated in a pan so the assumption is there would be a microwave involved. My spouse got up and approached the cook and waitress that reheating the pasta was unacceptable because if we wanted reheated pasta, we could get something from a freezer section grocery store. At this point the waitress seemed shocked that we'd say anything about them choosing to just reheat the food. After a few more remarks they finally said that they'd remake my food. But that'd mean I had to wait while my spouse ate or my husband would wait and then their food was cold when we eat together. At this point, the service was so bad and they made it fell like we were inconveniencing them by wanting at least warm food, my spouse said we just wanted to settle up and leave. Again it took them a minute to process that we didn't want to stay there anymore and eventually said we could just leave. We left and have no plans on returning. I would consider trying a different location since it's a chain, but I will not be back to the Walnut Creek location. I give Tomatina a very generous 2 stars for the service at the very start of the night and the flavor of the meatballs.
