I can't believe I hadn't been here until now! I live so close by, it's part of an office park so you'll have to walk in from one of the side streets but there's a lot of tables outside and areas to hangout! The staff was busy prepping for farmers markets as it was a Friday afternoon but they were still so friendly. I ordered the adult grilled cheese and it was everything I wanted. Solid little cafe with excellent soups and sandwiches. Since the weather has been unusually cool, I have been stopping by for their superb soups ($7), which I enjoy with oyster crackers. My favorites include the very filling crab and corn chowder, which I had earlier today, the flavorful and hearty tomato bisque, and chipotle sweet potato, which delivers a satisfying late kick! I intend to try some of their sandwiches this summer - I have heard other patrons raving about the hot Italian, Scarface (Cuban, Gangster Style!), turkey avocado, and winner winner... these cost $8-10 for a half and $15-18 for a full sandwich. I'm so happy this cafe opened up in the Treat Towers corporate complex area. This part of Walnut Creek had very limited options for a quick lunch, so having this cafe onsite is a game changer. The lunch crowd can be crazy and it can take a really long time for your meal to be prepared, so I prefer to visit for breakfast or during non-peak hours. They make homemade english muffins in-house that are amazing. The prices are also very reasonable. Where else in the Bay Area can you order a cappuccino for less than $4? read more

I really like Café 1277 -- the food is always great, and the staff is friendly. But I'm giving three stars because I noticed some serious food-handling issues that made me uncomfortable. While waiting, I saw staff handle cooked pizzas with bare hands -- actually placing their palm on top to lift and box them. One guy making a salad took a bite of something with his hand, scratched his beard, and then went right back to preparing the salad with that same hand. I also watched a girl wipe food off the countertop to clean it, then immediately return to making food without washing her hands. The food tastes amazing, but seeing all that made me lose confidence in their hygiene practices. I really hope management takes this seriously, because if they improved their food-handling standards, this place would easily be five stars. read more

I came here on the advice of a friend who said the prime rib sandwiches are great. I don't normally like prime rib but he said it's made like Philly Cheesesteak and to give it a try. It is FABULOUS. The flatbread used for the Cal-Ital Panini Wrap tasted like cardboard, I tried to imagine if it would be better using a different type of bread. Unfortunately, the toppings were not dispersed evenly. One bite that contained the bacon and other toppings tasted pretty good (minus the cardboard bread), the next bite was just chicken and cardboard (yuck) (2/10). There's the BEEF (Philly Style) was ok, I wouldn't order it again. I'm not sure why I thought this was going to be a different type of sandwich. It is basically a philly cheesesteak but not. I'm going to give away the 2nd half of the sandwich. In conclusion, the menu and everything SOUNDED great. It just didn't taste as good as described which is unfortunate. You may know the incredible husband and wife duo, Jourdan & Amy De Sanctis, as the owners of East Bay Artisan Italian Pantry & Bake Shop, so popular at the Martinez and Brentwood Farmer's Markets, or from their bakery/sandwich shop that was in Market & Main in downtown Martinez. They have opened their new craft sandwich and bakery inside the Treat Towers (Treat Blvd. & Buskirk). Let me tell you, they're bringing all kinds of deliciousness to the Walnut Creek/Pleasant Hill border! I went twice last week, it was so good! During my first visit, I ordered the Capone, a Chicago Gangster Style Italian Beef sandwich. The shaved prime rib, caramelized onion, spicy giardiniera, and Italian cheese blend on their housemade roll is so good! Dip it in the au jus, and you will be a happy camper! I paired it with their hearty and rustic minestrone. The meal was a winner, with plenty of leftovers for dinner! I brought home a cheese quiche, and OMG, it was fab! The crust was so flakey and buttery. Yum, yum, yum! On my second visit, I ordered the adult grilled cheese on their housemade sourdough. It's a blend of Brie, Mozzarella, Provolone, Parmesan, and Romano, with a layer of onion jam, jamaica relish, garlic pickles, and artisan mustard. I paired it with their yummy tomato soup. I also got another cheese quiche! Their babka is fantastic! In addition to soups and sandwiches, they offer salads and delicious round and square pizzas they sell at the local farmer's markets. Their sourdough focaccia, mini pies, scones, cookies, and brioches are all fantastic. They also have a full line-up of breakfast items served all day. On Tuesdays, Nona's Lasagna is the special, and on Wednesdays, they have their yummy macaroni n' cheese. Cafe 1277 is clean and bright, with plenty of seating. Depending on when you visit, you might see them preparing fresh pasta for their scrumptious lasagna or making delectable bread. I will sit at the counter the next time I visit to watch the show. On Fridays, they bake everything for the farmer's markets over the weekend. They also offer catering! Jourdan and Amy also partner with Joe Ngo of Hella Dac Biet Food. He's cooking in their kitchen, and you can now buy his burritos at Cafe 1277! Joe, I will meet you in person one of these days, buddy! Jourdan has some exciting ideas for future events; I can't wait! Really great sandwich (I ordered the Scarface Cuban sandwich) and friendly counter service and comfy, spacious indoor seating (and a nice open outdoor patio/courtyard area, as well). If you have room after your meal, there's a nice fresh pastry selection. It's a little hard to figure out how to get in at first: there's no access from the Treat Towers main doors on Treat Blvd. You can get in from the underground parking garage by taking the stairs or elevator up to the lobby (Cafe 1277 is there in the lobby right outside the elevator doors), or by walking in from Buskirk or Oak road via the promenade/courtyard between the buildings. So the owner Jourdan, is a complete rockstar when it comes to his culinary skills. I have been buying baked goods from his stand at the farmers market in Danville for the past few years and can't explain just how excited I was when I heard that he was opening up a restaurant close to home in Walnut Creek. I would have wrote this review sooner, but I stopped by the new spot with my family on the way out of town for a week. That was my biggest mistake as it was a beautiful vacation, but in comparison, a gastronomical wasteland and all I could think about while there, was the Cubano sandwich named Scarface that I ate at Café 1277. I hardly ever write reviews, but when I find something, this amazing, I have no choice, but to want to share it with everyone... My daughter and I both ate our sandwiches so fast that we didn't get a chance to take any pictures, but my wife's incredible salad was so huge that she looked like a deer caught in the headlights wondering how she was going to eat it all and I was able to snap a picture. It was that good, so we both volunteered to help her finish it... The menu is seemingly endless and I truly can't wait to get back and work my way through it one item at a time... I just ordered from DoorDash. I had high hopes for this, but was very disappointed. First, they did not send me what I ordered. I ordered "There's The Beef", but they sent me the "Shaved Prime Rib Grinder." The difference is obvious. The first is a warm, toasted sandwich with caramelized onions, while the sandwich they sent was cold, not toasted, and swimming in mayonnaise and mustard. Second, not only did I get the wrong sandwich, but it wasn't very good. The meat was nicely cooked and very tender, but the whole thing was just drowned in far too much mayonnaise and mustard. Delicious food and pastries and lovely people. My daughter and I shared a large tuna sandwich on a house made roll. We also had soup. We loved our lunch. I bought chocolate babka pastries to bring home, and even the next day, they were truly excellent. If you don't work in the Treat Towers, your best bet for parking is probably street parking on the block where Hops and Scotch is, and then walk over. In my opinion, eating out is expensive in general but I didn't think prices at Cafe 1277 were out of the realm. The sandwich, at $14, was generous for 2 and very fresh. I stayed in the hotel next door 2 successive weeks while in the area for business. Cafe 1277 became my go-to for an afternoon coffee and scone. For dinner take-out on different evenings I also had their Baller Status meatball sandwich, Detroit Style pizza, and East Bay Greens salad w/ Grilled Chicken (which I may have had on 3 separate occasions with soup of the day.) All were outstanding. I would have preferred more marinara sauce on the meatball sandwich, which I mentioned to Jourdan, and he graciously accepted the input. The dependably cheerful and engaging staff was also a draw for me. If the coffee wasn't hot enough later in the afternoon, I was offered a freshly brewed cup. The vibe is relaxed with music playing at an appropriate level and there's plenty of spacious, comfortable seating. It seemed every effort was made to ensure my experience would entice me to return.
