Ok... better than a fast food, not better than a sit down. When it comes down to it... this place seems like it doesn't fit into either category. I'm not sure if this is intentional or not. They have a decent amount of seating... not a lot, but at the same time provide you all the food in a bag as in take-out. The quality of the burget is definitely better than any fast food in the sense that the pickles were actually real and not just green slivers, the meat was really meat and a moulded mess, and the meat actually had some flavor on its own as well. I intentionally ordered my burger dry so I could get a sense of the texture and flavor of the meat. It wasn't bad, but in the sense that it can't compare against a real burger place, they don't ask you how you'd like it done, and you aren't really provided the condiments separately to really build your burger the way YOU want it. Next time I'll order a cheeseburger, but I understand that location is key to this place in it's proximity to other places like Fudds or Barneys, I really don't see myself driving out of the way to seek this place out.. I won't avoid it, but again, seems like they are possibly either undecided if they want to serve real burgers or fast food, and I'm not really sure that a niche needs to be created between the two. read more

I didn't try the fry's and they did look great. About my burger only experience. Five Guys is set up as a fast food place. Get in line, order food, wait for food, eat food here or to go. Think of In N Out burger, and you get Five Guys. Free peanuts while you wait? See Fuddruckers. The burgers are okay, but you have to order the regular (2 patty) to get anything substantial. The bun becomes a mess if you load up on extras, mayo, mustard, ketchup, tomatoes, lettuce, mushrooms, onions grilled or not. Very messy, I will try again with a different game plan. read more

I think it's awesome that their standard burger is two patties (Little Burger is one- better size for me), and it comes standard with all sorts of goodies that are usually extra requests everywhere else. The burger is tasty, but I would compare it more to fast food burgers than somewhere like George's or Stadium Pub where the patties are beefy and juicy. I think the mushrooms are canned, which I am not a fan of. Their fries are great, though! read more

Seeing as our dear friend Mr. Cooper said he'd go here no matter what my yelp review said, I now feel compelled to write one since I hadn't planned on it before. Today made trip number two to Five Guys and let's just say I don't think third time's going to be the charm. The fries are pretty good, I'll give them that. I like fries to taste like fried potatoes and these definitely have enough potato in each fry to do the trick. Both the regular and Cajun versions are good, although the amount of Cajun spicing seems inconsistent. The first trip had fries with way too much spice. The second trip was pretty near perfect. Which either means one of these trips was just a fluke and the fries usually are that spicy/not that spicy OR they suck at getting the spicing right each time. And I hope it would not be the latter as I'd never know if I need to ask for less spice or what... When I heard it was all you can choose topping selection for your burger, I had much more hope than what I found. It's nothing special. All the regular stuff plus mushrooms and a-1 sauce. Heck, I can get the same stuff by "having it my way" at Burger King. As for the taste, all I could think of was glorified gas station burger. It's even wrapped in foil which at first seems more shee-shee than paper, but instead it lends itself to gas station burger resemblance even more. Overall? Overrated. And I don't get what all the comparisons to In-N-Out are. Totally different vibe to me, in atmosphere and food. If In-N-Out is typical West Coast, and Five Guys is typical East Coast, than I can see comparing the whole West-East thing, which I guess is what people are doing. In that case, I'd vote In-N-Out all the way as it is the quintessential West Coast burger joint and I am Californian to the core... Sorry Five Guys. read more

One word: Culture. 5 Guys lacks culture. The burger was just okay. The seasoned fries make up for what the burgers lack. The decor and collateral are seriously lacking. Seriously they must hired a 15 year old with just Microsoft Word to design the thing. In N'Out has them hand over fist for quality, culture and design. Price wise I thought it was a bit high For now I think I will just wait for In N' Out to get built on Contra Costa Blvd. read more

I wish it was more clear that the burger comes with 2 patties. Overall it's not bad considering the toppings you can add. Fries are good, but overall $15 for a burger, fries and coke isn't worth it. read more

UnGodly expensive burgers! And, not nearly as good as In and Out......whoever the reviewers are who are rating them so highly, in my view, must be paid to do so. A JUNIOR Bacon cheeseburger costs, with tax, almost $8???? You have got to be kidding me! Do they pay their personnel to justify such a ridiculous price (no, they don't!). The burger was NOT that great. It was okay, maybe as good as Jack in the Box, but really not at all worth even half the price. The burger meat was dry and tasteless, and the bacon was burnt, and also dry and tasteless. Go somewhere else! read more

15 toppings to choose from and they're all free? woo hoo!!! i have never heard of five guys...but apparently there are numerous locations across the states. i just happened to stumble across a list on yahoo for the best fast food burgers...five guys happened to be number 2...only 2nd to in n out..,so i had to try this place...and i was hoping there would be a location close by...and whattaya know...pretty close to work and i was super stoked! cons? the falling apart syndrome. one or two bites into the burger and it was falling apart because of the juicyness...and the grease which had soaked into the hamburger bun. they also only have one kind of cheese. 15 toppings and only one type of cheese? boo. oh, and only one kind of bun. what if you can't eat sesame seeds? major boo boo. oh, and the fries are cooked in peanut oil. blech! pros? the burger itself is humongous!!! we ordered 4 burgers today and the guy called over to the cook..."8 patties!" each burger patty equals two...unless you order a mini. each patty is also hand packed right in front of your face. did i mention 15 toppings??? everything is pretty typical minus the grilled onions and grilled mushrooms which some restaurants charge for. i love how they number your burgers...i was a little concerned aobut figuring out which burger is which...until i saw the receipt attached to the outside of the bag...and then i saw how every perfectly foil wrapped burger was numbered with a cutesy sticker. my burger of choice? bacon cheeseburger with mayo, mustard, ketchup, relish, jalapeno peppers, grilled mushrooms, grilled onions, lettuce, and tomatoes. 4 stars for being the 2nd best FAST FOOD burger joint out there! read more

Not bad, will return. Wish that their fries were more crisp. I feel like I'm eating real food here, which is unusual for fast food.

I had heard about this burger joint before but not this particular location and decided to try it on New Year's Day. The BF got a regular bacon cheeseburger with pretty much everything, the daughter got a regular cheeseburger without onions, tomatoes or pickles and I got a little bacon cheese burger with everything but onions and added bbq sauce. We all fully enjoyed our burgers. They were cooked well. The burgers had more meat than bun. We also got a large order of cajun fries which could feed at least 3 more people but were really tasty.. read more

I was actually excited to hear five guys was coming out to the west coast and was longing to have their burgers and fries again. I've had five guys when I was in the east coast for vacation in 2009 and 2010 and fell in love with their burgers. Last night, I went to the pleasant hill location conveniently located across the street from the movie theaters. Staff was friendly, place was clean and a lot of ample seating. I ordered their little hamburger and fries with very lite mayo. What I like about the burger is it comes with sautéed mushrooms which was super yummy however when I took a bite into my burger, lot's of mayo oozed out when I requested lite mayo. Another thing I noticed is Five guys is a bit more pricier than In n Out because of the *free*toppings Five guys have to offer. I do like five guys burger however I like the fact I can eat In n Out without my burger falling apart all over the place. Will I ever come back to Five Guys? Most likely if happen to be near one. I do like that you can dip your fries in malt vinegar. read more

I had my first Five Guys experience at this location on my way up to Sacramento on a Friday night with some friends a few weeks ago. Surprised that there wasn't much of line around 8P and tables were aplenty. Anyways, I enjoyed my burger very much (i had sauteed mushrooms, yum) but was a little disappointed with the cajun fries even though they were very tasty. I guess I like my fries not as soggy/more crispy. me likey the price, the peanuts and all the different ingredients. I'll have to bring my hubby to Five Guys since he hasn't experienced it yet. :) may be i'll get crispier fries the second time around... read more

For $10 a meal, I would rather go to In-N-Out. My brother wanted to try this place out and so we had it for dinner. Three of us each had a burger and regular drink and shared a large sized fries. Total came to about $30. I ordered a regular burger and added onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, and ketchup. Basically I would say there is nothing special in terms of taste with their burgers. Pretty ordinary and fries were the same. I prefer In-N-Out because of their sauce. Unique thing about their place is they provide peanuts for you to snack on. They put it near the condiments and you just grab some if you want. Service was like any other fast food place. You order food at the counter and pick it up when they call out your number. It was quite busy when we were there and it took about 10 minutes for our food to be done. If food was cheaper I wouldn't mind coming back but $10 is a bit much for ordinary burgers and fries. read more

Coke. Regular Size. Love the cup. The decor reminds me of my beloved In-N-Out though. Regular Fry. It was alright, I personally like McDonald's or In-N-Out fries better, like the skinny salted ones. These were very starchy. Malt Vinegar. Put some in my ketchup and it made my fries 3248329x more tasty! Little Hamburger. Everything on it, no onions. This was pretty good, but I've definitely had a better burger elsewhere. It's a bit overrated, and not as good as I expected it to be though. I think I still enjoy In-N-Out much better and at a lower price. read more

DANTE- the best most entertaining burger order we have EVER placed. You have to come just to see this guy take your order. He has dance moves, jokes, and pay attention because he will rap your order back to you . The food is awesome as always, the grill cheese is my fave due to the crispy grilling of the inside out bun. Added advantage, the line and wait is always less than in-n-Out. And the burgers and grilled cheese are just as good. read more

As I was trying to give my order, the order guy kept on yelling something (perhaps a greeting) as more people were walking in. Ordered 2 double cheese burgers- protein style w/grilled onions. ....The lettuce is not a wrap...just chopped. ....Toppings, including bacon, are all free. .....Burgers are all cooked DONE....no other option. Mine tasted a little overdone. ....they were light on the onions. Large Fries are kinda expensive....$4. Cajun topping was interesting although fries are cooked better than In & Out. They do give you free peanuts (in the shell) to eat while waiting for your food. There is enough seating for medium size groups (6-8) but it may be hard to find seating if there are more. The seating set-up pretty much requires that you will need to sit next to people you don't know. About twice as expensive as In-N-Out. read more

I've been here a few times and the burgers are quite good, but they've always come out soggy either due to the grilled mushrooms or because the burgers are freshly made, but immediately packaged in foil so the steam makes the buns all mushy. I wish they had different packaging :( The fries are great though - you get TONS of them! Service has always been nice and friendly. read more

Calorie content is kinda high. a plain hamburger is 700 (i took a pic of the menu). So this place is invariably compared to In and Out because it is to the East Coast what In and Out is for us CA residents. It is not only not the same, but not as good. Fresh beef, fresh good toppings, but a little pricey. Plus I like avacado (a CA thing) and they don't have it... I feel like I just left a bad review for a good place- really goood burgers, just not in and out quality and prices. read more

Five Guys - Look at the calories! Before toppings! - Burgers Near Me - Pleasant Hill, California

I tried the kosher hot dog at Five Guys, and it was just alright. I can go on an on why I think In-N-Out is better: 1. In-N-Out's ingredients are fresher. The Five Guys hotdog made me feel a little sick by the time I was finished with it. 2. The texture of the In-N-Out bun was toasted, something I appreciate it. The Five Guys hotdog was soggy and too messy. 3. Fries: Five Guys' cajun fries were well seasoned and I liked their thick cut. I only wish they were crispier. In-N-Out animal style fries are too heavy and a bit difficult to eat, but still delicious nonetheless. read more

I have been here before. Only -1 star because it is ALWAYS so dirty inside!! Does none of the staff workers clean up the tables or floor from the peanuts?!?!?! Other than that, the bacon cheese burgers are to die for. The LITTLE bacon cheese burger is HUGE, and the regular size is even bigger! The guy who rang me up was super chill. Let me have all my sauces on the side, and even gave me a lot more than fries than usual when I picked up my order! Seems like the workers here are a bunch of bro's hanging out and having fun while they work! read more

I thought it would be the best since everyone raves that it is...Maybe I ordered the wrong item. So I got a little cheeseburger with everything on it...and regular fries. You get a lot, but at the same time, there's nothing really new to it. I was hoping for like some delicious juicy patty, or like a secret sauce. Needless to say I was dissappointed in my visit. read more

After hearing that this place overtook In & Out as the #1 zagat-rated burger place, I had to try this place for myself. Maybe I've just been spoiled by in and out, or by Bay Area food in general, but this place was strictly average. Environment - Pretty much the same as In and Out, down to color scheme and retro styling. Friendly and clean, if a little crowded. Fries - Completely bland, like the kind you get from the frozen foods section. The kind that require ketchup, because they have no taste of their own. The texture was great (crispy outside, soft inside) but the flavor was not there. Bun - Boring, soft sesame-seed bun. Not toasted at all. Come on guys, even mcdonalds toasts their buns. This tasted like any generic bun you could get at the grocery store. It even got soggy when loaded with toppings. Meat & Cheese - Big, meaty burger with good flavor and decently juicy. While the meat and cheese were the high point of the meal, the meat was cooked well done and the cheese was not fully melted. At least its above average, and about on par with a Carls Jr. Toppings - I'm not sure why the toppings are the first thing every five guys fan goes on about. They have everything you'd expect, plus green bell peppers (raw), grilled mushrooms, relish, a1 sauce, bbq sauce and hot sauce. The only standout is grilled mushrooms, and I can't stand mushrooms. After falling in love with the divine animal style at in and out, it was difficult to come up with a combination of toppings that didn't taste like every other generic fast food burger you've already eaten, aside from the variety of sauces. Shakes - My wife was flabbergasted to learn that they don't have shakes. Hot Dogs - Why would I get a hot dog at a burger place? As you can probably already tell, the overriding theme is AVERAGE AVERAGE AVERAGE, with the only standouts being the abnormally large sizes (and prices) and slightly above average beef. If i could give this place exactly 2.5 stars, I would. Try the place once then go to the San Ramon In and Out for a nice animal style double double with peppers, yum! read more

I tried this place, having never heard of it until it opened here, on a Saturday afternoon. It was an odd time (3:15) but they were very busy nonetheless (and on weekday lunch breaks when I've walked by it the place has been packed). I had a cheeseburger, with ketchup/mustard/mayo, lettuce, grilled onions, and pickles. I ordered it to go because they had loud rock music blaring. Plus the it's a small location so it feels cramped, and the walls are over-decorated with large signs bearing loving quotes from critics. In other words, the atmostphere rating is 1 1/2 stars. The staff was mildly friendly. Now, the food. Here's how the overall rating gets kicked up. It was a delicious burger. As far as chains go, anyway. The toppings were perfectly balanced other than it being a little low on ketchup. Everything was fresh and tasty. I was particularly hungry, so maybe that skewed my experience a bit, but certainly I'd go back for the food's sake. The prices--well, for just the regular cheeseburger (i.e., 2 patties)--it seemed fair. But if you want fries you're spending a minimum $2.80 more, and drinks are the standard $2. So had I dined in and got the fries, I would've spent around $12. The prices, then, are not that different than say, Fuddruckers (a good comparison), but there's no special deals at Five Guys. I will say it's nice that it's no extra charge to get grilled onions or other special toppings. Bottom line: for once in a while, it can "hit the spot," but if you're either budget-concious, health-conscious, or like a calm eating environment, it will just be that--once in a while. read more

I'm not really a burger fan but this place isn't bad. The hubby and lil' man like it so we'll keep going back. I think it's a step higher than in-n-out and with that, a little more expensive too. I like the fact that you can choose up to how many toppings....for free. I absolutely dig the fries here though, better than in n out and they give you a lot too. What would add more stars to my rating is if they served shakes!!! (Hint-Hint) read more

This review is just for the fries. I'm thinking if they've won for "best fries" in other states, what are they doing wrong in Pleasant Hill?? One star is for the fact that they are freshly made and piping hot when they serve them. The other star is for the amount of fries you get - quite a lot - but you pay for it. Other than that, the fries are usually on the edge of seeming burnt on the outside. Not sure if it's the oil that they use? If it needs to be changed more often, or they fry at too high a temperature, but they could be so much better. My ideal french fry is crisp on the outside without being burnt or brown and tender and hot on the inside. Their fries try, but don't quite cut it. Some fries are crisp, but most are softer and that semi-overcooked brown look is not only quite unappealing, but messes with the taste. read more

Love this place. Seriously make to order just the way you like them with any toppings you want for the same price. Juicy patty, well seasoned cajun fries and great service. The only gripe I have is the temperature inside the restaurant - it gets a bit cold if you dine in on a cold night. Brrrr... read more

My first 5 guys experience. I am typically a slow eater, and when I went with my friends, I was the first one done with my burger! I am editing this review to 5 stars!! They have really got the take out down to a science here now. Loving it. Thanks 5 guys..

Okay but for the burgers In N Out Burger is better, plus In N Out has got the service line in the groove and is a better value. Waited 20 minutes for my burger (large, 2 patties with cheeze and everything... the mushrooms don't add much may I say) then another 20 minutes waiting for a simple hot dog. They do not have the service line trained in efficiency yet! Seating is cramped and not very comfortable... tight quarters and the place is busy. The burgers aren't bad but not as great as all the reviews suggest. I will say The fries however are pretty awesome I'll given them that. Fresh and fried dark and thick cut fried in peanut oil.... unlike In N Out's standard fries. I also decided to try the hot dog. It was definitely NOT good. Tastes like Oscar Mayer. I was hoping for that Chicago flavor and pop...at least. I guess it is really for little kids who don't discriminate. Also for the price, In and Out is a better value for what you get... At In N Out I just order the well done fries and that is one of my favorite quick burger meals when I get that craving! .....Five Guys... ya well its East Coast... prefer West Sigheeeed!!!! In N Out got it down for this G! read more

Sometimes you just get a craving and you HAVE to satisfy it. Yesterday, I really wanted Five Guys. We were on a time crunch because my friends and I had a hair appointment right next door at Paul Mitchell but they got us in and out very quickly. I called ahead and put in my order as I was parking. Walked in, paid, and in a few minutes we were unwrapping our burgers! Pretty good service. I have had experiences where I've had to wait a while but now I try to phone in my order or order online and it's always very quick. I love their cajun fries. They're flavorful with a little spice and they always give you A LOT of fries. I get the little cheeseburger because it's really filling and I like to get the works. Definitely a good place to try for a good burger. I don't like to compare to in n out because I honestly love both! read more

Not impressed. At all. Burgers had little flavor to me. I could make a tastier burger on my BBQ. They wrap the burgers in foil which make the bun soggy. They are way overpriced. One cheeseburger is more expensive than a cheeseburger meal at In-n-out. Sticking with my beloved In-n-out. :) read more

Very reasonable prices. Servings of fries are generous. The place is popular and crowded. The seating is very tight. Great place for a fast and satisfying meal. Only complaint about the burger is the bun which was too soft for my taste. Fuddruckers has the best bun, but of course you are paying a lot more. read more

Ok... After all the fanfare and hoopla, we expected much better... We ordered burgers with everything on them and fries and beverages... The wait was about 9 minutes, which was pretty long, considering there was no one else ahead of us... But it gave us a chance to devour the free peanuts... When the burgers came out, they were warm and not hot, we thought they should have been, since they supposedly just came off the grill... We were really disappointed with the burgers, sloppy, but dry... WAIT!!! Is that an oxymoron??? Yes, they burgers were dry, but gooped with sauce. Bland and very shoe leatherish... The fries were inconsistent as my dinner host mentioned... The ambiance was pleasant, but food fell way short. We were quite disappointed. We expected more... A whole lot more... I guess In-n-Out has nothing to worry about... read more

I've been here plenty of times and haven't left a review, but after the interactive, pleasant cashier we had yesterday I thought it was time to. The food is great, the atmosphere is comfortable, and the employees are friendly. I scrolled through some reviews below mine and almost all of the lower rated ones are just of very picky people. Five Guys will probably not make you drop head over heels if you're a vegan, but if you appreciate the occasional, average burger then Five Guys will stand out a lot more. It's more expensive than most burger places, and you have to wait a little longer but the product of all your pains will be worth it once you take that first bite. You essentially build your own burger, so the taste varies based on what you choose to get; if you pick the the minimal amount of condiments, etc. then of course it won't be as great if you were to get some chopped onions on it. The fries are also to die for, but be aware that when they say large fries, they mean a whole LARGE bag of fries. For the price, it's great. For the size of my stomach which usually can handle a lot, it sucks because I can't fit that much food in me. If you're looking for an alternative to fast-food burgers or are just getting out from a movie, definitely stop at Five Guys. read more

If I could, I would give another 1/2 of a star. This place was "good"...but just not quit a fan...yet! I will go back in a month or so and see if my opinion has changed. It has nothing to do with the food being bad or anything...I had the Little Bacon Cheeseburger with cajun fries (the regular Burger vs. the Little Burger is only the amount of patties--2 or 1). The meat had very little taste however, ALL of the toppings made up for it. The lettuce was super fresh, as well as the tomatoes. I was impressed with the grilled onions and mushrooms. The cajun fries were OVER SEASONED...next time I will def be getting the regular fries. I do like how they have a Peanut Box right when you walk in...it's a grab-yourself kind of thing. Clever for sure! The place was clean and spacious. I still think it had more of a "fast-food" feel. Overall impression: ok hamburgers (it's the meat I'm not liking...), great toppings and nice location. read more

I decided to give Five Guys another try, only because my friends were on their way and told me to meet them there. We hit the lunch rush when we arrived, and the place was packed with a ton of extremely loud, obnoxious high school kids. It was absolutely atrocious, and I was dreading having to stand in line surrounded by a bunch of ditzy high school girls talking abnormally loud and saying "like" and "whatever" after every other word. Thankfully, the young lady at the register was extremely quick and we were at the front of the line in no time. I ordered the exact same thing as the first time I went - a Cheeseburger with Grilled Mushrooms and Lettuce, but this time I went without the BBQ sauce. I also ordered a large order of Cajun-style fries instead of the regular fries I had the first time, and a medium soda. A week prior, I was already craving Mellow Yellow from Five Guys, but didn't have an excuse to go back until today. Naturally, I filled my cup with Mellow Yellow and we all sat down to wait for our order. After about 10 minutes (surprisingly fast for how many people were in there), our orders were called. We brought our food back to our table, and I slowly unwrapped my burger and went to take my first bite. The burger was NOTHING like the first time. It actually had some flavor to it and was pretty decent. I was impressed after being so sadly disappointed my very first time. The Cajun-style fries were AMAZING, and I would probably rate them 3.5 stars instead of 3 if they eliminated the regular fries from their menu. Overall, this experience has completely changed my stand on Five Guys. It's still not one of my top picks, but I would definitely go again if there were a lack of a better option. read more
