Great burger. Cooked perfectly, toppings galore at no additional cost and the staff is attentive and friendly. I've eaten here a dozen times and the consistency is always been there for me. I would prefer eating a burger from here over in n out almost 7 days a week and I do love in n out. My only issue is with the fires. I wish they had better fires or atleast more sauces to offer for them like thousand island and ranch dressing which would help out a ton for me as I am a condiment guy when it comes to my fries. The Orange location just opened up so it's crazy crowded, especially at lunchtime. I went with a co-worker and we waited a good 30 minutes--the line was out the door. Good thing is once you get inside the place the have free peanuts while you wait. The place is very simple and but has a better menu than In 'n' out, offering a variety of burgers hot dogs, veggie sandwiches and even a grilled cheese. And you can get anything with bacon. I opted for a cheeseburger which was huge burger that could easily qualify as two or three patties at a place like McDonald's. What I liked is the burger was really fresh, it had that fresh-off-the grill taste you'd get at a BBQ. It's hard to compare to In 'n' Out's burgers because they're different. I would say overall, they're about equal. Though, if you figure in quality and freshness I might give Five Guys the edge. Five Guys also offers a great selection of free toppings from sauteed mushrooms to a variety of sauces. If you go for the burger you have to try the fries. They offer regular and cajun style. I went with regular but wished I'd tried the cajun, because the regular fries were kind of bland for me. The only thing missing are the shakes. You can't have a burger and fries without a shake. Best burger hands down. I'm a SoCal native and longtime In-n-out fan, but after having this on a trip to DC I came back a converted man. I love it with everything (great onions and mushrooms) plus jalapenos - try doing that at INO! About the only thing missing is avocado, but I'm sure that wouldn't fit in their inclusive pricing. Luckily, they've just started opening locations in OC (can't wait for a South OC location) and I had to introduce my wife to this experience. Two bites in and she agrees that it's the best. That's after mocking me for months about nobody being better than her beloved In-n-out. Okay so my good friend told me there is a burger place that beat in-n-out via zagat survey 2010! Immediately I had to try this place and I was expecting my socks to get knocked off! We arrive at the spot at about 7:30 PM on a Wednesday night . It was crowded, waited about 15 minutes to order and another 15 or so to get the food. I had the cheeseburger (standard 2 patties) with EVERYTHING in BOLD and BLACK minus mushrooms and tomatoes. We split a kosher dog with everything again. A side of regular and cajun fries. Now the verdict. The burger was just like any other burger joint. Nothing really special. (nothing to really beat in-n-out IMO) Hot dog was a actually quite tasty, split and grilled. I would give this place a 3.5. I came into Five Guys with an open mind an a decent hunger. First, you can't really compare Five Guys with In-N-Out, other than the decor. Five Guys burgers are HUGE and you can be a whole lot pickier with what you want on your burger. I found that my burger was great - I loved the grilled onions. But it just felt messier and greasier than In-N-Out, which isn't a bad thing. Just different. In-N-Out will always be an option for a snack, meal, "it's on the side of the road - why not go!" option. This review is based on the opening day....they were super busy, so the quality of the food wasn't that great. Hint the 3 stars. The service was fast and efficient. However, the burgers we got were super soggy and sloppy, like they just slapped everything onto a foil and rapped it up: which they probably did. The taste was good like the location I had in Cerritos. My fries were soggy as well. All and all, it was an understandable kind of disappointment. I'm in a restaurant business myself, so I think the employees did the best job they could considering the opening day with a line a mile-long :) I will wait a month until the crowd dies down then I will definitely go back and get a real, big, juicy, famous, all American five guys burger :) read more

This place was cracking when we went on Saturday. The line was out the door and immediately, we thought to ourselves, "this place better be worth it". We heard from a few of our friends that it was good and comparable to In-N-Out and we were already holding high hopes for this place. Well it delivered, but not to the point where we can say its better than In-N-Out. It is different but it is damn good. The burgers are more of a homestyle flavor which is a good touch, and they are pretty damn big. The regular burgers come with two patties and you can throw in mushrooms! Mushrooms on a burger is already a positive for us. I had a bacon cheeseburger with mushrooms and Kristina had a regular cheeseburger with mushrooms. Both were good but it got a little messy. The burgers don't hold up well, so be careful if you are eating over some nice clothes. We got an order of the cajun fries and regular fries and both were on point! And they hook it up too. Main downside was the price. Almost $20 for two "fast-food" burgers, fries and one drink. Kind of a lot, but not too bad. The bread on the buns wasn't the greatest but it will do and the seating sucks. We had to sit outside on a pretty hot day. Some advice, don't go there during the busy hours (lunch or dinner time). Five Guys is very popular right now... kind of like the In-N-Out craze. The line to order didn't take too long. The menu is simple. But then I waited 20 minutes for a small burger and fries. I'd hate to sound like a broken record and let this review be another comparison between Five Guys and In-N-Out, but it's almost impossible not to compare the two since (1) they basically have the same red and white tile interior and (2) they seem to be geared towards serving the same audience. I was half expecting a premium In-N-Out experience because of the free peanuts, the choice of toppings, and the slightly pricier menu, but once I tried the food I got the sense that Five Guys wasn't trying to be like In-N-Out at all. It had a lot pride in the freshness of its meat, which is way better than In-N-Out's, and it wanted to provide variety and options for its customers. All the components in the burger were fresh and when they came together, they made a pretty tasty burger. The only problem I had was with the bun. When I unwrapped the foil, it looked like my car had just ran over it a few times. Maybe once upon the time, the buns looked picture perfect, but once it sat in my brown paper bag, it was looking pretty sad. It did taste good though. I also had a problem with their fries. I liked the smell of their cajun fries and I liked the aftertaste that it left in my mouth, I just didn't like the fries when I actually ate it. It's nice to know that the potatoes were from some farm in Washington, but I was expecting more flavor from the seasoning. It was a watered down version of what cajun should be, but the fries did complement the meal nicely. In the end, Five Guys did serve up a pretty decent meal. I'm not here to bash In-N-Out or Five Guys (I actually feel pretty lucky that I can go to either one when I want to), but I don't thinking In-N-Out should worry about running out of business any time soon. I'm about to die... didn't know their 'regular' hamburgers came with two patties... omfg lol. I thought the mini was more like a whopper jr ... so I ordered the regular cheeseburger x_x! Too much! Finally got a chance to try out this place after hearing all these good reviews about how this place is better than In-n-out and to me I still LOVE In-n-out better b/c nothing beats their sauce. =] What I like about Five Guy's burger was that their patty has more of a backyard/homemade feel and taste to it and I like the concept of adding whatever toppings you want to your burger. However the only problem I had about this was that they messed up on my order so that pissed me off b/c isn't this something they go by, shouldn't you get the order correct? This actually my 3rd time at Five Guys so I have a better grasp on several menu items. To start let's dispel the rumor that this place parallels In-N-Out. While the color scheme and simple menu might be similar, that is were the similarities stop. The burgers are tasty but somewhat masked due to the fact that the condiments are a bit on the heavy side. If you are into light anything, be sure to mention specifics when you order or you'll be surprised. Ordering made simple! ALL THE WAY - gets you mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, and mustard. EVERYTHING - gets you ALL THE WAY + relish, onions, jalapeño peppers, green peppers, A-1 Sauce, Bar-B-Q Sauce, and Hot sauce. Burgers come in 2 sizes. A double patty or a single. Be careful, if you order anything generic ie cheeseburger, you'll get the double which is huge. If you want what most might consider a regular burger order a little anything. The little burgers are far from little so don't feel embarrassed to order little. The fries come in 2 sizes Regular and Large and 2 types Five Guy Style (regular fresh cut with skins) and Cajun Style (fresh cut with skins and Cajun seasoning). Again, the regular is more than the average size fries order. The fries are a bit of a disappointment as I feel they seem a bit greasy and perhaps over cooked. The Cajun seasoning is flavorful and my preference thus far; however, I am more inclined to pass on the fries altogether at this point. Other options on the menu are Hot Dogs, Veggie Sandwiches, and Grilled Cheese. I like having sandwiches vs burgers options with the Grilled Cheese being a favorite. Wait times can get long; however, the food is made to order and you can see your food being prepared as the grills and work stations are visible to the customers. This place is so overpriced. $4 something for a tiny hamburger, 2 something for fries that taste nasty if not eaten right away and another 2 something for soda. I'm good. I will never go back because I know that I can stretch my money somewhere else. This place is NOT In and Out. Personally, I love In and Out more: Better Pricing, Burgers edge out Five Guys, faster service. But again, that's In and Out for you. Five Guys does not disappoint. At the fast food burger level, Five Guys burgers easily dismantles McD's, BK, Jack, etc on quality. Huge amount of toppings, and tastes like something homemade. The fries are excellent, you get A LOT and I especially enjoy the Cajun Fries-unique touch along with fast food burgers. Where Five Guys falls short is that it is like a homemade burger. For the same reason you'd like it, you know you can grill something just as good at home. The prices are astronomical compared to In and Out and its "lesser" fast food competitors; pricing is just shy of Ruby's or Red Robins. It's a tad pricier than your "Six Dollar Burger" or "Angus Burger" variants, but definitely fresher. Five Guys is worthwhile and a nice change but isn't King of the Hill in what is veritably In and Out Land. read more

The burger was so-so, the mushrooms appear to be canned, the bun was soggy from ?, and the fries -- well, I can't believe they actually got rated well on the fries???? They were soggy and not crisp. I tried both regular and Cajun and they were both pretty plain. I wouldn't have minded if the price was better (about $5 for this burger) and the fries were good. But at $9 for a full meal with drink, there are lots of other "quick" places I'd go for better food. I admit I liked the music, the peanuts, and the crazy atmosphere. We had to wait for 15 min to order and 10+ to get our order, but that wasn't a problem considering the line of customers out the door. The staff really moved as fast as they could. Tried Five Guys in October of 09 back East. Didn't even realize there was one here until recently. Great burgers! Love all the options! Messy meal, but isn't that what a burger is all about?? Takes a wee bit long to get the food and you might have to wait in line. But well worth the wait! You can even munch on free peanuts while you're waiting in line! Stopped by with my fiance and got what I typically always get. The Jr. burger with bacon, mayo, ketchup, sauteed mushrooms and onions, and bell peppers. My fiance ordered his, whatever that was! and we ordered a medium fry with seasoning on the side. My burger was actually dry. Normally the bell peppers come cooked and they weren't this time. That also might be based on the location so I'm not going to make a fuss on that. But still, it was a bit dry vs. what it normally comes out to be. The fried were VERY salty. I've never had fries that salty at a Five Guys. Not too shabby but I think we will stick with the Huntington Beach location. That is, until they finish building the new one by my house in Cypress. I had Five Guys in another state and thought it was great and worried it might come to So Cal and dethrone In & Out. After having Five Guys in Orange yesterday, I am not so sure I wasn't hallucinating the prior time eating their burger. This time it was fairly tasteless but for the grilled onions and they were the dominating taste to my disappointment. The burger came in the usual foil wrapper but I had to completely remake the burger as whomever wrapped it the first time, made the leaning tower of burger so the majority of the burger and toppings had slid from between the buns. I could have taken it back and asked for a re-wrap but they were smoking busy, or at least seemed that way with so many employees scurrying about and yelling at the top of their lungs about patties and trash and other unintelligible things. The french fries were decent but way over salted. I left feeling like I had a really heavy meal and it stayed with me for several hours. The Habit was a much more enjoyable burger and of course the king is still In & Out here in So Cal. Some like it but I won't be going back to Five Guys. read more
