While I love Five Guys food, this location is just awful. They've gotten my order wrong on numerous occasions. The quality of food is typical Five Guys quality- it's not the best burger in the world but it's better than InNout in my opinion. Shakes are delicious and you can make them pretty much however you'd like. French fries are good but only if you eat them warm because they are fresh. My final straw with this location though was when I order through Ubereats a week ago. They completely forgot a cheese burger. They never answered their phone so I had to leave work, drive 15 minutes to them, wait in line to tell them what happened, wait for them to cook my burger, and then drive 15 minutes back. Not only did I have to slam down my food because my lunch break was up but my fries were cold by the time I got back and I basically wasted money on ubereats since I had to drive there myself anyway. OK I dragged the wife here one Saturday because I had to see what all the hype was about. I ordered us both one of the small burgers, because of price and I heard the large ones are huge, with the preferred toppings. Ordering was easy and the food was served up relatively quickly as it was pretty busy. Got our burgers and they were super hot and one of the most tasty fast food burgers I've had. I honestly could have eaten the bigger one with no problem because it was that delicious, even though I was already full. I don't get the lack of food trays. No, I didn't want it to go. Free peanuts by the line to order are fun to munch on while waiting for your number to be called, unless you're allergic to nuts, in which case just mull your sad existence because you're probably hating life, always trying to avoid nuts or things "made in facilities that process nuts". Fries are excellent... way better than that other place with the soggy pale crumbs they call fries. The cut potatoes are man-sized and include the skin. I don't know what kind of oil they cook them in but they are very tasty. And they have more than one size which is a plus -- two of us couldn't even finish a large. This is a solid burger place that wants to hover near 4 stars but doesn't quite make it. The burgers are good. The standard is two patties on nice fresh buns with a panoply of toppings that is the real strength of Five Guys. The toppings make the burger, and even the most elementary foodie knows that. I mean, a burger is a burger is a burger. It's all about the sauces, toppings and accessories. And Five Guys has a great selection that range from mushrooms to chiles to bacon and lots of stuff in between. The burgers taste fresh but don't stand out in any real unique way. Personally, I prefer Fatburger, but I do think Five Guys is better than, say, Carl's, McDonalds, Burger King, et al. The place is super, super loud and crowded. I hate eating inside because the volume interferes with the eating experience. It's OBNOXIOUSLY loud. This particular location attracts everything from high school students, to college students to blue-collar workers, to cubicle rats, to nuns. It's crazy. Points off for the huge signs telling me how great you are. I'll judge that myself, thanks. The peanuts are a waste, I think. They serve you too much fries (which sounds like a crazy thing to ding them on but it's a waste of food. I flew some aid missions after the Haiti earthquake and- since then- the sight of food being thrown away is appalling. Those people were killing each other over a rotting sandwich). Gimmee half the fries and charge me half, how's that? Also they were burned and the oil needed changing. $10 bucks for a burger, fries and a coke. A bit steep, in my opinion. Overall, it was decent. Finally tried a Five Guys burger and a hot dog as well. To sum up my experience: Certain places, like In and Out Burger, the look or taste is very distinct. You either love them or not. Not the case with Five Guys. Had I not known where the burger and dog came from, I felt like they could have come from anywhere. It was a decent burger - the hot dog was just ok - however, it wasn't spectacular. One bonus is that you can add all sorts of toppings on your burger or dog, at no additional cost. Had my very, first Five Guys experience a couple of weeks ago after the movies. The counter folks were friendly and I was surprised by how quickly they got my order to me, as the place was busy. I had the cheeseburger with 'the works' and an order of fries. Wow! It's easy to see why the In 'n Out folks are losing some of their fans with this new chain coming to the area. For those of you with an IN & OUT URGE, please, go take care of it in a drive through. This place has awesome burgers and YES it is all about the toppings. If you want a plain burger with nothing but the patty and some ketchup then you'll probably be disappointed you didn't go to your usual fast food joint. For you plain burger people, at Five Guys you will pay a lot more for simply better quality beef and there is no drive through. Yes, the bun has seeds. No American burger has a bun without sesame seeds except those with a drive through (Fast-Food). Sorry, that is just how it has been for the last 45 years. If you don't know this then you're probably too young to know what a real American burger is like. Now, if you like real American burgers then listen up. I don't understand the deal with peanuts and peanuts shells on the floor, it looks dirty and exposes customers to lots of germs, since these are peanut shells that were handled by customers with their hand or mouth. I remember how good the cheeseburger I ordered tasted the first time I ate here. It was flavorful, juicy, and cooked exactly like I ordered it--well done. For those of you that think I'm crazy, let me inform you that I order my steaks medium-rare, so I'm not afraid of pink meat or a little blood. Bacteria on the meat is killed when you grill, sear, fry the outside of the piece and cooked until you reach the proper temperature. Ground beef is another story. When you ground the meat, you're mixing the inside and outside all together so the bacteria from the outside is now on the inside, too. Not good, not good. Especially if you don't cook the patty to at least 165 degrees. A good sign that the beef patty is undercooked is the pink color, like the photos I've included. Yes, I know that I've waited more than a year to post this but I've been busy. The point is that Five Guys no longer cook my patties the way I order them. I've been to the locations in Cypress, Fullerton, and of course this one to see if it's a particular location, or all of the locations. When I placed my orders, I ask for my burger to be cooked well done and most of the cashiers say, "We cook all our burgers well done." If that was true, I wouldn't have been served the burger patty you see in the photos. I really don't like feeling like a nuisance when I stress for my burger to be cooked well done and it's been a problem several times at all three locations. So with that said, I stopped going to eat at all Five Guys locations over a year ago. I almost went yesterday but I remembered my previous experiences and decided to go to Rodrigo's for tacos instead. If only the cooks at Five Guys cooked the burgers the way they used to, I'd be a faithful customer once again. Is that too much to ask for? I don't think so. First, if I am to get a big, filling burger with toppings at their price range in the future, Five Guys Burgers and Fries will not be the place to come back, and, yes, it's all about the taste. Second, this review is based on recommendations of friends and acquaintances in the East coast about the chain, their comparison vs In-N-Out, and using Mickey D's as a benchmark for both (but both Five Guys Burgers and Fries and In-N-Out blow McD away, so forget about using them as a "benchmark"). The location is actually easy to get to via Katella or Tustin, with the 55 almost right next to it. Parking is ample, the place (with a decor a little too similar to another chain's locations...) is ample, homey and clean. a little busy the second time I went, but the free peanuts will keep you occupied (and thirsty). And know for something completely expected: The food. "They are big, they have toppings, they got several types of burgers, it is not about the taste!". Nooo, is all about the taste, and it's the break deal when it comes to the price of the food served. For the amount charged, there is a few places in OC that serve the same or better burgers (same goes for their Hot Dogs. For thos prices I will wait on line at Pink's Hot Dogs in Los Angeles), plus if you are going to use In-N-Out to prop Five Guys Burgers and Fries' fares up, yes, Five Guys Burgers and Fries will fill you up for a (steep) price, but, no, they have no room to claim better taste. (Quick caveat: There's nothing wrong about Five Guys Burgers and Fries' offerings, and if you just like burgers, you will like them just fine). So, portions and varied menu goes to them, but the flavor goes to In-N-Out. Have not been to this place in years and wanted to try something new for my wife. Got two bacon burgers with everything, one side order of fries and one milkshake. The burger meat was extremely dry and over cooked and all the sides seemed stale like they been sitting out all day. Very disappointed as our bill was over 30 bucks and we could have gotten food from in and out at half the cost and enjoyed our meal. I haven't been to Five Guys in years so I wanted to try them out again. Three employees, already cleaning up everything for close, the cook displeased as I placed my order. Let's just say this the place was empty and I've gotten faster food at the In N Out down the street during peak hours. My fries were cold and he carelessly wrapped my burger in the tin foil (first time foil broke and the burger almost fell apart). This particular location is one of the worst five guys around. 25 minute ticket times for 2 burgers and one order of fries, that I paid $40 for. There was one employee that had a black hat on, appeared to be shift leader or something similar, he's a keeper. Everyone else on shift tonight should definitely be fired. I witnessed a room full of disgruntled customers that were being ignored. The young boy making the fries, and his buddy who he was always chatting with, were by far the worst. I saw them yell out customers numbers, place the food on the counter and then turn their back as customers are asking questions. Anyone who is focused on delivering a great customer experience should really take a look at the crew working on evening of 1/14. The weirdest part is that the register asks you for a tip, odd for fast food, but I tipped anyways. Worst decision. Needless to say I am never coming back to this location. Five Guys vs. In-N-Out. Stop trying to compare them. I'll admit, when I first tried the location in LA county, I tried to compare them. In fact, for a hot minute I thought I liked five guys better than in-n-out. (hangs head in shame) Sure, when you walk in you will first think that five guys is trying to knock off in-n-out because they have the same color scheme and simplicity going on. But there's where it stops. The burger at five guys is damn good. Better than In-N-Out? I just can't compare. They are totally different burgers. But five guys makes a damn good burger and you can add things like mushrooms or hot sauce or jalapenos to it. Can you order it animal style? No. I actually like the hot dogs here better than the burgers. Their hot dogs rock. Seriously. Get one ... you will not be disappointed! The fries are just OK. I came in with an open mind, and with no pre-conceived comparisons of any other popular burger joint. I just wanted a well made, good flavored, solid juicy burger to titillate my taste buds and satiate my hunger pains. Like pizza and BBQ, a good burger is another of those subjective objects of food. Everyone likes their burger a certain way. That being said, I did not like my 5 Guys burger. Let's begin by deconstructing and analyzing the components of a good burger. I feel that a good burger has to be bursting with flavor and well seasoned, especially from the meat patty. A good burger must have toasted buns. A good burger should not fall apart in your hands upon your first bite. A good burger, you should be able to taste each and every fresh ingredient within. A good burger... was a horrible movie. But I digress. I ordered a regular sized bacon burger with all the regular toppings like lettuce, tomato, pickles, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, mustard. I also added some jalapeno peppers. The problem with the burger started with the bun -- it was cold, squishy, and sticky. It desperately needed to be toasted, and it just didn't seem like a quality hamburger bun. The next biggest offender was the meat patty. It was dry, under-seasoned, and bland. It didn't even taste like 80/20 ground beef. No flavor from the fat, no grilled flavors, no nothing. All the toppings just got lost in the shuffle. It was basically a little sprinkle of each -- maybe 4 little slices of barely grilled mushrooms, a tiny cluster of grilled onions, a dab of ketchup and mustard here and there. I think the lettuce and tomato was in there too somewhere, calling for help. And the jalapenos... I actually don't remember eating that. It probably fell out of the burger along with the rest of the toppings. The cajun fries were bad. Although they were thick cut, which I like, most were soggy and over-seasoned with way too much salt. With the burger being so bland, I should've put some of the fries inside the burger to give it more flavor. That's pretty sad. Regarding prices, they were on the high side, but I suspect most people overload on the toppings to feel that they must get their money's worth. It's a recipe for doom. The way 5 Guys packages their food is both a head scratcher and hilarious at the same time. They stuff everything in a plain brown paper bag, even if you eat in. The bag instantly becomes covered with Rorschach-like grease stains. They wrap your burger in a tightly wound bundle of tin foil, which you basically play hot potato with for the first few seconds before opening. You, yes you, can make a better burger at home. Everyone's talking about how Five Guys is gonna knock my beloved In N Out on their asses...I just don't see it. Sure its got lines out the door, peanut shells all over the floor and the red and white color scheme going on, but it ain't the same. First off the music is loud! Almost too loud. And while I like peanuts and being able to throw the shells on the floor a la' Northwood's Inn, I don't like that they put the boxes on top of trash cans. That's just not sanitary. Secondly, I don't want to see your paper bags of potatoes out among the customers. Third, the taste. Sure, its a beefy burger, but the bun was soggy, and the pickles are cut too thick and I don't like that they don't have thousand island. But, it was a good juicy patty. I will give it to them on the fries though. They tasted better than In N Outs. Will I replace In N Out with five guys when they open on Beach? Probably not. read more

Wow. I can't believe that Five Guys Burger & Fries only has 3 stars so far. Really surprised. Well, I think their burger is phenomenally good. On par with In 'N Out as far as quality and value. I'm not saying that this is a good substitute for In 'N Out but I can definitely see myself craving a Five Guys burger sometimes and sometimes craving an In 'N Out burger. Both give you a little something different but both leave you feeling full, happy, and satisfied. This being my first taste I decided to go all out and get the bacon cheese burger (they differentiate their single patty burger as the "little" burger and their double is their standard) with the works and Cajun fries. Now when I say the works, I mean the works. Loaded up with just the right proportions of lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, and jalapenos it was delicious. But let's not forget that underneath all those toppings are two beautifully cooked, beefy, and juicy beef patties. The only downside to this burger was that they forgot the bacon. :( Now for the controversy of this review - the fries. I personally love In 'N Out fries; I know there are many other people who like In 'N Out but don't like their fries, I am not one of those people. I happen to prefer them to almost all the other fast food burger joints out there but I think this is where Five Guys has In 'N Out beat. The fries were just perfectly cooked, not spongy at all,as you get at In 'N Out sometimes, and with the Cajun seasoning, it was the best fast food fries I've ever had.
