This review is specific to this location. Both the fried chicken and fries were obviously fried in extremely old and reused oil. The old taste hits your tongue immediately and intensely. My order came out immediately after I ordered, which explains the dryness of the chicken--probably had it pre-made, sitting out, and ready to assemble. The water and/or ice used in the fountain drinks also have a really bad taste--how I would imagine toilet water to taste like. However, the taste/flavors of the sauces and slaw were good, which is why I am writing this review for this specific location only. The girl at the cash register was also nice. I had high hopes for this spot but it just did not hit the mark. The interior has a nice vibe to it and the workers were very nice, but the food itself was a let down. I ordered a spicy chicken sandwich, I was disappointed to find it was not a patty but instead 2 tenders in between the buns. When that is done it makes it a more challenging bite as you're strategically holding the sandwich to avoid the second tender from slipping out. On top of that the tenders were so overcooked they had become stringy which is not a pleasant bite. Spicy wise it was a 2/10, was there spicy, yes, but it was faint. The flavor itself I also found lacking. Even with the coleslaw there was something missing flavor wise. Thankfully I ordered a few side sauces, that helped with both the flavor and the dryness. Well, to my surprise, this was pretty good! Located in a strip mall, the Holdaak sign can be spotted while driving by. We ordered the holdaak spicy chicken sandwich combo, which came with a side of fries and slaw, and the Seoul spicy chicken sandwich, which is supposed to be a yangyeom flavor (Korean sweet and spicy). Both chicken pieces were sizable and were not dry. The individual smothering of sauces also add some flavor and moisture. Fair warning that it's messy as the chicken, slaw, and sauce drip. Glad I finally got to try Holdaak- it was delicious and the chicken strips were nicely breaded and seasoned without being too salty. We tried the spicy chicken sandwich, regular chicken strips and fries. All of these were on point. The only changes we wished for were that there was more slaw and pickles in the sammy, it seemed a bit light given the weight of the two large chicken strips inside. Randomly stumbled upon this fried chicken joint since it was conveniently next to Bobateaque while we were checking out an event there. We decided to get Holdaak after seeing other customers get it while we were at Bobateaque. The food looked amazing so we had to try. I got the Holdaak Spicy Chicken Sandwich combo which comes with crinkle cut fries and a soft drink. Since it was my first time, I knew I had to try the dish with their name in it. The combo came out to about $12-$13 which is honestly a deal for quality food. They're also known for their comeback sauce which I'm glad the meal comes with. The food was piping hot when we got it. The fries were obviously fresh out of the fryer because they were perfectly crisp and you can see the steam coming out. The comeback sauce was sweet and tangy and it was perfect in combatting the spices on the fries. The Holdaak spicy chicken was the right amount of heat! I probably could've handled more spice but it was really good. I loved the Korean twist on this American dish with the daikon slaw in the sandwich. It was perfect amount of acidity that was needed to combat the spice. The bun was also so round and soft looking. It was literally perfect. This place is right next door to a taekwondo place I attend. Yesterday and today me and my friend went to buy lunch, and these two separate days' experiences were so different. From yesterday, we came in and ordered chicken bowls (I got the spicy, my friend got the regular) with a side of corn. The portion is pretty good for its price, and the taste is way beyond my expectations. They have such creamy sauce used for the seasoning and the chicken, and the corn tastes so delicious when you add it on! The lady that served us was pretty nice and chill, and we saw some DoorDash workers that stopped by here, and our food was placed in a DoorDash bag to go. Me and my friend stopped by at bobateaque (a boba place next door) and were surprised on how well this was cooked. I definitely recommend getting it. It includes rice, tons of chicken, and a side of your choice (coleslaw, daikon slaw, or corn). The next day, a couple of my friends came by again to buy some food. The same friend ordered the same thing, and the guy seemed so lazy and didn't really have much appreciation and all. He seemed like he wanted to just go home already and I felt disappointed. He also asked my friend to pay twice because the internet was working very slow. He didn't really care much about his job... I don't know how he got hired. Maybe he was just having a bad day or something, but it just kind of ruined our experience. I ordered the same thing but with Cajun fries, and I didn't expect the portion for it to be quite big for the price it is. Another one of my friends ordered the Cajun fries. They also forgot to add our sauces on the side which really disappointed me and we wanted to go back when we were on our break, but it would just be a waste if we went back to just get sauce. They gave us plain fries and I asked if the fries were meant to be plain when we ordered Cajun fries. Turns out, you have to shake the Cajun powder into the fries yourself. Let me start by saying I have been to the Fullerton location and LOVED the food there! My review on that location (from quite a few years ago) even says I need to come back and try their salad. Well, today was that day, and I decided to come to the Orange location since it was closer to work. The location is easy to miss; it blends in with the surrounding little businesses but it is right on the end of the building when you enter the parking lot. Upon walking in, I noticed a couple people dining and I was sort of half-greeted upon walking in. The woman at the register seemed like she didn't want to be there and did not seem happy. I don't expect Disney levels of joy, but maybe just try not to make customers feel like they might also not want to be there? I ordered the crispy chicken salad to go (accidentally called it the "fried chicken salad", but the cashier was sure to correct me even though it's the only salad on the menu). I sat and waited for my order. After a few minutes my number was called. I grabbed the food and left. Realized too late that there was no fork in the bag and I must have missed where they were in the store, so I supplied my own fork. This was a $12 salad. It's a pretty respectable size, but other than being large and looking nice, that's about where the fun ended. It tasted just OK. The chicken was not hot and crispy and was a little bit dry. Not at all the way I remember delicious Holdaak chicken. I was *wowed* when I first tried the chicken sandwich. Unfortunately that wasn't my experience with the salad. I didn't hate it, but I just feel like for $12 I expected something...better? We got the spicy & the spicy holdaak the spicy holdaak was very flavorful, definitely spicy but if you left the sandwich on the bun for longer than a few mins the bun became super soggy & I ended up discarding it. That was the case for both sandwiches (unfortunately). Gotten pretty sloppy lately. Workers never clean the tables anymore, always sticky. They just changed their fries, they suck and they give you less. I've been struggling with their sandwich for a while, because they just use their strips. So sometimes the sandwich just falls apart if it isn't someone good putting together. I ordered the 20 piece wings set and the #1 combo. Super bomb! I loved the wings they were so juicy and pretty big in size. I got full off of eating only 8 of them! The flavors I got were the caramel soy and seoul spicy, both very delicious flavors. The menu is concise so it was easy for me to choose what I wanted to eat. This place also offers daily deals so make sure to check that out as well! There was a good amount of seating available inside and a few tables outside. Everything was clean as well as the bathroom.
