Another overpriced burger place, saved only by the experience inside. Servings of peanuts as appetizers are an enticing enough pull for someone like me, as fatty and oily as it can be. That and the soda machine that spies on me in exchange for freedom of choice barely helps to justify the 15 dollar price tag on their custom burgers. We love 5 Guys. We grab burgers here all the time. It's a bit pricier than the average burger spot but much tastier. I almost always get the Cheeseburger, all the way no mushrooms. You can't beat that. I love the fries here but the Cajun spice is not for me. The milkshakes are really good but you might want to remind them you ordered it because sometimes it's forgotten or overlooked. Also, the drink machine is one of those terrible Coke, pick a million favors things. Usually the good flavors are out and it takes forever waiting behind someone exploring the multitude of delectable combinations. Booo to the Coke machine, bring your food home and save a bundle on no soda. The ambience is good, we almost always get it to go. They always do an awful job in cutting the onions, we called them once and asked if they could cut them in smaller pieces and they very rudely said they can't do anything about the onions...like really? This place should be called no guys because the service was as if nobody worked there and certainly nobody cared. My fiance and daughter and I went to eat here and had the worst experience I've had to date. I ordered 3 burgers, 3 fries, and 3 drinks. Order came out to 50 dollars and I paid with a hundred dollar bill. The person working the counter offended me by asking if I had just printed it! Next, she forgot to give us our cups. After a very long wait, the order was called out and I picked up our food and found we were missing 2 fries. I mentioned this to the girl who helped me and she challenged my words. Said she only heard 1 fry. Manager said same thing only to shut me down make me feel like a liar and not a valued customer. As if this wasn't bad enough, the young manager came out to argue with me and berate me in front of my 12 year old daughter. She continued to debate with me the lack of customer service and even insulted me to the point I actually lost my usual cool demeanor. Just not good. This was my second time trying Five Guys both times in Merced and it's just lacking everything. The burgers are lacking flavor, even with all of the toppings offered. The fries are so greasy and soggy they soaked the bag. The least they can do is improve in customer service because the place had zero patrons and the staff was not in the least but friendly. The price is absurd for what you get, we had 2 little bacon cheeseburgers, one large fry and 2 sodas and it was over $43. We came here from Stockton. We dropped our son off at the Amtrak so he could go back to CalPoly Pomona. We stopped to check out the local University. The camps was beautiful, we payed tennis and basketball and headed back home around 6:00. We were starving and saw a 5 guys. We pulled up and noticed it wasn't busy. The staff was friendly and communicative. The store was clean and the restrooms were nice and clean as well. There was a nice, clean seating area outside as well. The fries were hot and delicious!! The times that I've eaten at five guys, the buns are steamed, these buns were not steamed. I ordered a small bacon hamburger with grilled mushrooms. The bacon was cold and the mushrooms were cold. The strawberry shake was still fresh and delicious. Overall, burger was yummy, and the shake and fries were great. They give you a ton of fries, so order a size smaller than you anticipate. Also, if you order a shake.. they tend to have it made before your food is ready. Decided to try them out for their BLTs. It was sooooo delicious. The bacon was nice and crispy, and there was quite a bit in there. The fries were hot and salted perfectly. They gave the container but also poured extra in, so there were a LOT of fries. It was a bit pricey, but worth the price imo. The staff was very friendly, great customer service. Average burgers at a relatively high price point ($8-12) for fast food. Extensive list of toppings you can customize, but overall the burger is nothing special. They have tasty fries that are thick cut and can be ordered with Cajun seasoning, if you're into that. Great tasting burgers and fries; employees provide fast and friendly service; minus one star because their prices are outrageously expensive; it's at least $10-$15 a person if you want to get your fill. The parking can be annoying if you come here during peak hours. On my families first visit everything went smooth from ordering to receiving our meal. Second visit well... tables were a bit dirty & it seemed as though the older cashiers were missing and replaced with young cashiers.. if you asked me, it seems like the young ones need a bit more training in the customer interaction area. So, a while back, possibly a few months, we took a chance on eating at Five Guys in Merced. We knew it was going to be expensive because we had seen the menu before. The young lady that took our order didn't get it right...twice...but it was busy so we didn't say much. The food was okay although I didn't care for the fries much. Here's the thing: there was a young man that kept coming to our table to make sure we were okay. He made sure we got the right order and made sure our drinks were full. He was simply nice and respectful, more so than the girl who helped us originally. When we left I gave him a large tip and told him that the tip was not to be shared. It was his tip. Two days ago while in Target we ran into the same young man working as a cashier. He actually recognized me and thanked me for the tip but then told me he was not allowed to keep it. The manager took it from him with some lame excuse that didn't add up. Giving Five Guys the benefit of the doubt, if this is true that is wrong. I WAS THE CUSTOMER AND IT WAS MY TIP TO GIVE AWAY. This kind of thing is what gives places like this bad reviews. Shame on you whoever you were. The only good worker you had there was treated with inconsideration and you had no regard for your customer. Won't be back again and will discourage others as well. Grow up. read more
