As a kid that grew up in Modesto, In-N-Out was always the best. I have been converted. This place blows In-N-Out of the water both in taste and prices. The staff are friendly and they have a good old-school vibe and always some kind of 90s-2000s show going on in the background. Fav's are: The Pretty Classic Burger, The Dough-boy and Onion Rings. If you're someone that likes to eat at In-N-Out or Jack in the Box and you haven't tried this place you are in for a treat. read more

This spot has funny names to their burgers, but the burger actually is pretty delicious. The seasoning is spot on and I feel like even with a single it's really filling. The fries were also crunchy, which is my personal preference for fries. I don't like fries that are super soggy. They did have a special the time that I went where they had like a barbecue burger/patty melt , which is the second burger pictured in this post. It's also pretty reasonably priced and in my opinion affordable. Service was really quick. They were packed when we were there and they were able to get out the food relatively quick. It's definitely like a burger joint you go you order and then you pick up your food there isn't that much customer service involved. Inside they have a huge painting of a burger, which I forgot to take a picture of, but they also have a really clean, which was nice. Anyways, I think it's really good. I would definitely go here again! read more

This place is affordable with great food. If your looking for a true bang for your buck you have found the place. Almost every time I am there, it is playing cartoons from the 2000's, which take me right back to my childhood. Drawings from former customers adorn the wall. Walk in and order and then find your seat. They'll call you when you're up, and you'll slide back into your booth for a journey to flavor time. read more

This is a super good burger. Very simple menu that is done well! The burgers are smash burgers, that are seasoned to perfection. The fries and onion rings top it off. The burgers ARE pretty good! So were their onion rings! It's a great burger spot that I highly recommend. The AC wasn't that great so be warned that along with the open grill, it's pretty warm in there. Would still go back. read more

Came here to grab a bite to eat with my son after leaving the movie theater down the street. Located in a great location. Not much seating but we were lucky to get there during a not so busy time. Burgers that we ordered came out really fresh and had a great taste. The fries with ranch were also very good. I would say the only negative I would have is that they didn't have more options on the menu. But overall are great tasting burgers. read more

Perfectly located in Downtown Merced. The menu is simple and doesn't have too many options so it's easy to order off it. Casual atmosphere and open floor concept so you can see them making the burgers. Simple take on smash burgers. Got the pretty good burger and pretty classic burger. For mine, there was too much mustard, that's all I tasted and why I'm giving it 4 stars. For sides, we got fries and onion rings. Fries were seasoned well and crispy. Onion rings were good as well. Besides that, not that bad of a place to grab a smash burger if you're in the area. read more

Cool looking hole in the wall. It was more in the smash burger family. I usually don't eat smash burgers so I was a little sad when I saw my burger. I'm a first timer so I didn't know what to expect. Food came fast. It was absolutely delicious! Very flavorful and the fries were seasoned and crispy! I would definitely eat here again passing by! Thank you friendly staff! Hey Pretty, Can't believe I haven't reviewed you yet. The big question is.. is the burger... pretty good? ...Yes it is. It's not big, but it's pretty good. Is it smashed well? yes. Is the price ok? Yes. I think it grew on me because first time i was like eh.. then the more times I came, the more I liked it. I also think is because you guys ditched the tator tots and went proper with fries. Yes, I love all fried potatoes variations except tator tots. Don't know why but it is. Your fries are great now, and the burger quality has stayed. Wish you had some more seating, and seating for more than 4. Other than that, you are always a good spot to eat. Now how about providing a bit of that sauce for free yeah? I mean in-n-out provides it for free.... Ok ok! sorry! I crossed the line. jalapenos?.. ok OK! ps. btw, tuesdays have specials, great to couple with discounted movie night at regals. read more

The food is okay I feel like it has gotten much better since they first opened flavor wise anyway. Food is made fresh right in front of you! Service is great the cashier is very friendly and helpful when making decisions on what to try. The vibe is chill feels very relaxed like 90's ambiance to it. They also have great deals on Tuesdays! Follow them on instagram to keep up with the deals. read more

Excellent burger AND fries! if you come here you MUST get the fries with fry sauce. Life changing. Great service, friendly staff, reasonable prices and an easy going atmosphere. Food was fantastic and was reasonably priced! Services was amazing! Philip was awesome and gave me an extra bag to make it easier to carry. Brittney was so friendly as well. Delicious and good food!! Super recommended!! Nice place and kind people, I loved the pretty classic burger

As a vegan in Merced, theres not a lot of dinning options for me. Heard from a friend that pretty good burger had a plant based option so I decided to check it out. They have it on the menu as pretty fake burger. I've ordered it twice since discovering this gem. I had to double take because it tasted just like meat. They did an amazing job on the flavors of the burger. Highly recommend tasting their pretty fake burger as it's so tasty!! Will definitely be coming to pretty good burger anytime I'm craving a yummy plant based burger!! Also had their fries and it was tasty. The service was amazing. When ordering the burger the cashier made sure to ask if I wanted a vegan bun. I appreciated that. Thank you! I forgot to get pictures but will update the post next time I order. read more

Had fries there yesterday they were delicious and crispy! Burgers there are delicious. I often get them delivered and asked for extra extra extra extra pickles and they always come through. Good little Spot Downtown purd good, lives up to the name. I could have swore I wrote about the ambiance of this place! Kind of in a "I LOVE IT!" but because I do CARE! But still that kind of bouncing and jittery jukebox energy with good speakers and bass. read more

The name largely says it, this place is "Pretty Good," although I'd say a little better than that, and we enjoyed the reference to the film. We ate here on our recent visit to Merced and had smash burgers, onions rings, and fries. They were all very good, but not really outstanding. 4 stars for all. The place is reasonably nice inside, a little bare but not entirely. Service was good. It has a nice location downtown. We would gladly go back as it was a very good burger meal at a good price. read more

I have heard lots of good things about this place. I finally got to go check it out. I'm gonna say it's a smooth middle ground between 5 guys & In N Out price wise. Flavor wise, it's better than both plus sides. The service was good. It took a minute, but it was a Friday night & it was poppin. We thought we'd have to take it to go because they were out of tables inside, but just in time, one opened up. My only complaint would be that because it was so busy, we kinda had to bus/clean our own table. The sauces were awesome. The menu is simple, creative, & funny. We will be back again. read more

Pretty Good Burger is pretty damn good. These burgers are seasoned, smashed, and seared to perfection. I went with the "pretty good" burger - smashed, topped with American cheese, pickles, onions, and mustard. You can't go wrong with simplicity! I love mustard but this really over powered the taste of the burger. If mustard ain't your thing, I'd probably skip out on that and dip it in their not so special sauce instead. The crinkle fries are seasoned and crisped up so well. They also come in a huge portion. I wish I tried the onion ringz!! The quality is there and you cannot beat these prices. Single burgers run for $6 and doubles are $8. I'd say the fries are shareable between 2 people and are only $3. Sauces (house ranch, not so special, and spicy ketchup) are $1 each. Not bad at all. PGB is located in the charming downtown Merced next to Little Oven and The Den Hookah Lounge. Parking is hit or miss, usually isn't an issue. Parking lot behind the theatre is always a good bet. 100% add Pretty Good Burgers to your 209 foodie list. read more

Single handedly the best burger spot in Merced! We got two pretty basic burgers (plain), but one with their not so special sauce. My girlfriend says that it seems mayo based and a bit spicy with jalapeño. She said it adds loads of flavor. I highly recommend the fry shake! It adds extra flavor to the fry's and it's got a great taste. The burgers were hot, juicy, and cheesy. The service was great! Kind cashier and we got the food delivered right to the table. It's a small spot but it's quaint and the music is nice. This is a great spot to eat in Merced :) read more

Calling this restaurant Pretty Good Burger was a very humble decision. The burgers aren't just pretty good, they're really good! My group and I came here on the way back from Yosemite feeling hot and hangry. Luckily, Pretty Good Burgers revived us and got our energy back up. This was such a fun restaurant to go to. It felt like an old fashioned burger joint, and there were a bunch of drawings of burgers on the back wall by the bathroom. The music was fun and it felt like the restaurant was popping when we went. The staff were all very friendly and chill. I thought the potato buns wouldn't be vegan based on the website, but the cashier was excited to tell me about the vegan buns they had available. There was a person who came in to use the bathroom and get some water, and they were very accommodating about it, which I can't say for a lot of other places. The drink selection was great. I liked that they had Pibb Xtra, which is quite rare to find nowadays. They also had several flavors of Jarrito's soda. The burgers themselves were soooo good! The patties had a nice seasoning and flavor to them. The Fake Burger I got was very hearty and satisfying. The fries and onion rings were also a huge hit, and my group finished them very quickly. From what my group told me, the Classic Burger was delicious and fresh. We got plenty of extra jalapeños too! It was the perfect stop to satisfy our burger cravings! read more

If you are looking for a quality, good tasting smash burger in Merced, look no further than Pretty Good Burger. Smash burgers are super popular right now, so whenever I see one, I gotta stop in get one. Looking at the menu, it's crazy how affordable a meal here is. A single burger will run you $6 and a double is $8. They've got a few different variations with toppings but you can mix n match. All burgers come on a martins potato bun. The burger itself was really tasty. Their smash sauce is good and it satisfied my smash burger craving easily. They had a free add-on for jalapeños (pickled kind) and I wish I hadn't. I think if they had fresh chopped Serranos, that would elevate the burger to another level. If you like fries, theirs is a cross between a crinkle and steak fry, it was hella good. The burger was pretty filling on its on, so the portion of fries would be enough for 2ppl. Not bad for $3 Anytime you can get a full meal for under $13, that is quality and filling, it's a win-win. If you like burgers, this spot is worth checking out. read more

Someone once asked me how the burgers were here. I replied, "they're pretty good". Is it gourmet? No. Is it fast food? No. The portions are good size. The quality is there. And the flavor, it's pretty good. It's that old style all American diner flavor burger. It tastes homemade. It feels homemade. And...it's pretty good. read more

Hmmm, what stood out about Pretty Good Burger? Quality. There are burgers places, and then there is PGB. place your order and have a seat while your burg is cooked to order. Hot and fresh, just the way the burger gods intended. Smashed, seared and seasoned to perfection! Imagine it, the toasted potato bun that is soft and forgiving yet strong enough to support your smashed patties, even if you do order a triple . Gooey American cheese, tart pickles, fresh bits of onion, and tangy mustard . Bonus points if you add on some grilled onions ! The grilled onions took this to another level! The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The place itself has a cool vibe with a laid-back feel. Oh, and they have a cool playlist playing overhead. I've said it before, but adding Abuela's Sweetheat Chili Crunch to the PGB ranch is life changing !! IG - @Friday_night_bites_209 read more

food is good. the fact that they have no specials on Tuesday for plant based burgers but have it for meat is annoying and inconsiderate. Food equity is a real thing. You should give plant based eaters and option too. The world is already hard and expensive enough for someone with dietary restrictions, the least you guys can do is run a special for this option, even if its a bit more then 3 dollars to account for the impossible patties cost. An option is better than no option. Please consider this to help your fellow vegetarian customers that want to enjoy your delicious food. read more

This was our second attempt to try this burger joint. The first time was an epic fail as they were closed. We came here right before watching a movie. The theater is a few stores away. It definitely is better than buying at the concession stand. So we got there and took a few minutes before ordering. The cashier was not all there. I dont know how many times I had to repeat my order. She just had this blank look. I got the pretty good burger (single patty) without tomatoes while my boyfriend got the same but with double patty. I like how thin their patties are. I was expecting the onions to be sliced ones like in&out has. Their onions are cut in tiny pieces. We ordered fries with our burger and I am not a fan of their seasoning. It is too much for me. Overall, the burger with fries and drink cost $25.99 for us both, which isn't bad. I will definitely be back again. read more
