I always made it a point to head to the Tarmac whenever The Hot Spot truck is parked there. Come to find out, they have a whole ass brick and mortar in downtown Merced!!!! Best discovery of 2023. This spot is located between Main Street and I. A good deal of street parking is available. I want to say this downtown location only offers outdoor seating with plenty of shade. These summer temps are brutal so if you don't feel like waiting, be sure to call in your order. Everything is made fresh to order so depending on what you get and how busy they are, there will be a wait. For a small order for myself, I typically wait 12-15 minutes. Most recent visit: We called in an order and was given 15 minute wait time which was perfect as were driving from Merced. Food was just finishing as we arrived to pay. I ordered breast bite combo 1/2 sweet chili/ lemon pepper 1/2 with fries. The chicken was so good! The sweet chili is definitely my fave so far but the lemon pepper was good also ,very flavorful! Shared their 20 wings and garlic fries between 2 other people. It was a good amount of food, and their wings were so tasty! But their garlic fries were disappointing, and their wait time misleading. For garlic fries we were at least expecting the dark golden fries in pictures here on Yelp, with maybe some chopped garlic on top. What we got was a plate of barely cooked pale yellow fries with garlic powder. They were still good with ranch because I don't mind soggy fries, but I was hoping to show my brother how good this place was! As for the wait, we were told it would take 35-40 minutes, but it turned out to be about at least an hour. To be fair, it seemed like they were getting both phone orders as well as people there ordering in person. At some point we went back and asked if our buzzer was working, and they told us it would ring in 8 minutes. 15 minutes passed and no buzz so we went over again and our food had been ready and they told us we were too far away for the signal to reach. We totally didn't know we had to be standing right by the food truck for it to buzz. All in all, the wings were delicious, even though we didn't get to them until at least 10-15 minutes after they were ready. The fries could have benefited from more frying time, fresh garlic, and perhaps some aeration holes in the styrofoam container to prevent them from getting soggy. read more
