I had a great experience here with my family. The seafood was really good I ordered shrimp and clams with potatoes and sausage, and everything came out fast and tasted great. We also ordered two baskets of fries, one Cajun and one lemon pepper, and both were seasoned perfectly. The service was excellent as well. Sorry Bag-o All these years and still haven't given you a proper review. In my book, you are the only bag/shrimp place in town. There was the "other guys" on the other side of the freeway I first tried when I came to Merced... but took it to go, And found all the shrimp to be old and mushy... never going there again. So to me, you are it and I think you guys are good so there you go! Price is reasonable. Food is good. Shrimp is not mushy (is my standard too low?) Sauces are good. Quantity is good. Tried your fried fish, chicken tenders and both are decent size and quantity. (Mainly because I got kids). Garlic Noodle is sold and very garlicky. Lastly those kitty servers. Totally useless since your waiters still have to come by to serve it... But super useful to attract families with kids. My kids ask to come see you... I would think it would be in their best interest to provide the customer with a pleasant experience rather than lose customers over something as simple as letting them sit where they want. I had no idea that I haven't even left a review of this place, my bf and I having been coming here regularly, since it has opened we absolutely love the food, beverages and don't get me started on the service! We've had not only our server come up to use but other staff as well! We've been eating at shrimp places when we lived in Southern California so we definitely were excited to have one here! We are creatures of habit when it comes to Bag o Crab and usually always order the same thing cause it's so damn good. The sauce is thick, tasty and we love the chopped up loads of garlic they add! Our go to order is a glass of the Chardonnay and Blue moon, 3/4 lb of garlic butter medium, 3/4 lb of the Cajun medium headless shrimp, we occasionally order chicken wings or the fries we really haven't tried anything else there. Love the cute crab joint feel, always clean and staff like I mentioned before are so attentive and approachable! The restaurant has been decorated to sort of capture the feel of a dockside crab-feed joint which it kinda does in a kitch way. All staff are exceptionally polite and attentive. Now, this is just my opinion, but what a terrible way to eat seafood! Obviously, this is not on a dock and the seafood has long been frozen. No amount of garlic and steam will change that and trying to recreate a "Cajun" joint on the bayou in Merced is ... silly. When they dropped a literal plastic bag of shrimp and mussels on the table, I nearly barfed! You have to REALLY like seafood not to be grossed out by the totally unappetizing way it is served here. Paying market price for very unfresh seafood served with no thought to presentation is absurd, but such is Merced: the place is doing well. read more

My mom and I wanted to give bag o crab a try, mind you I had my daughter with me and she's allergic to fish and shrimp so I decided to get her some pizza before arriving as I walk in with the personal pizza box the server look at me and said no outside food allowed I explained to her that my daughter can't have fish or shrimp and I didn't want her to feel left out and she didn't care. The food is pretty standard for a seafood boil spot, the staff is super friendly, but I can't stand the tables! We were sat in a booth, I dont think they even have regular tables, which was nice... except that you feel like a giant sitting at a kids table. I felt so uncomfortable sitting at the table that it ruined the entire dinner. Normally the table is a little above waist level and a little below chest level, but here the table was below the belly button and it felt like the food is in your lap. I know it's not proper etiquette to have your elbows on the table but at a casual restaurant I like to be comfortable and have my hands resting comfortably especially when waiting for food to arrive, this wasn't possible here. Been coming to bag o crab with my friends for awhile and never really cared to leave a review until now. The food is good for the area, but it's definitely hit or miss. Some days have more flavors than others. Service is usually decent, but i think it's because the manager is usually there when we go. However this last time we were there the manager was not. We went in on a Tuesday, not busy from the looks of it. The server that helped us took our order while taking our drinks, just waters and a soda. Doesnt sound hard right? Welp our food came before our drinks and the server was just walking around. We had to ask the server (different girl) that brought our food for our drinks. She brought them to us instead of the original server. She also brought us the basic essentials such as bibs and gloves. Because we did not have anything to eat our food with. She brings us our drinks then our original server comes and asks for refills. I said yes. My refill never came. We watched her as she took my cup and not come back. We looked for her and she was helping another table. No big deal right? Until she went behind the bar and then started cleaning. I'm waiting for her to look up to maybe remember. My group and I are looking up at this point. Nothing. My friend stops one of the guys that brings out the take out order and I asked if he can ask my server for my refill. He asks another server to get it for me instead. And i asked for the servers name, so i can make this review, he asks me why i want her name. I've never been asked that. I told him i just would like it. My friend explains the experience we had with her and still no name was given. We were told she was new and still learning. Which is fine we are very understanding people, but if she was that new to be forgetting basic things already maybe she shouldn't be a waitress or be left alone. Which I find ironic that they would say she is new because we've seen her helping other tables. I would have not left the review if it had not been the server's attitude afterwards. I still did not get a name, but the name on the receipt we got was Alyssia. We had a cake, she brought it out. Then asked if we wanted forks and plates. We said yes. She brought out one plate. Then my friend asked if she was new. She said no and made a comment about how shes just forgetful and that she thought it was still like in cave man times where we use our hands to eat. It was so sarcastic. I don't know if she thought it was funny because it was an unnecessary comment. My friend didn't catch it at the moment because she was confused on what the server even said because she just asked if the server was new and still learning. My friend knew i was getting annoyed and she was trying to emphasize with the server. She did not find it funny once we told her exactly what was said. The other servers that helped back this girl up did a great job. But it should not be up to them to pick up this girls slack especially when it isn't busy. And in all honesty if shes Dory, being a server probably is not the best job for her. Especially if her dory syndrome kicks in on a slow night. If we had cash on us we would have left a tip to the other servers instead for picking up her slack. We stopped at this Bag o Crab while on a road trip and had a fairly good experience. We ordered two bags of shrimp/clams/potatoes/sausage; It was more than enough for four people, we even had some leftover. The atomic spice level was just the right amount of spicy.
