Went there just last night my husband and I got two blast and two double cheeseburgers and two patties for my puppies. We had about a five minute wait once we got up there but the food was made fresh and hot and everything was really good so definitely worth the wait. The staff has always been nice and professional. The people that work here are extremely sweet my only issue is for the second time in a month I've waited over 30 minutes for my drinks when using the mobile order app, using my entire lunch break. I then have to remind them of my order and wait for them to bring it out and I got the wrong drink, it was also a regular. I have diabetes and it's very dangerous for me, but I'm lucky enough to be able to tell the difference. It's just extremely frustrating and dangerous for some people like me. So I haven't reviewed any place in a while. As I drove to my daughters house I felt a little hungry today. I passed all the usual burger haunts, in-n-out, jack in the box, McDonald's. But I stopped today at Sonic in Merced. Not a stand out place or location but it certainly caught my eye. Love the carhop vibe, even this I didn't use it. A nice touch of old school drive ins. Went to the drive thru. I perused the menu, not complicated, adequate amount of choices, and landed on the SuperSonic Bacon Double Cheese Burger. I don't profess to be a connoisseur of hamburgers, but I do believe it is the perfect meal that hits all the food groups in one bite. I ordered the SSBDCB side fries and a Coke Zero. Handed to me in a little brown lunch bag, by a lovely young lady at the drive through window. (Tater tots was an option I didn't take, in retrospect, perhaps I should have. Next time, and there will be a next time.) The SSBDCB sat next to me in the passenger's seat as I drove to the house sipping my coke and listening to smooth jazz. I arrived, gathered my belongings, suitcase, road trip rubbish, and THE BAG. Got in the house, spoke for a little while with my daughter and sat in an easy chair with tv tray to eat the burger. Wrapped in a foil wrapper with Sonic branding, I opened the SSBDCB and to my amazement it looked exactly like the picture on the menu. I was pleasantly surprised. My SSBDCB, was literally picture perfect. I should have taken a photo, but I was amazed and stunned a little. I've eaten a shit ton of burgers from fast food joints in my 66 years, and never have a seen one constructed so perfectly. In-n-out does a good job in construction, and I come to expect it from them. Not from Sonic, never from Mickey Ds or BK or any other burger joint. I hoped and I prayed, will my SSBDCB taste as good as it looks? Will it? First bite, divine. Second, yummy. Bacon cheese two pattys. Perfection. I could go on and on, but I'm not. I'm going back, order another one and hope for the same level of beauty as this one. I'll update. read more

The prices compared to how much food you actually are getting is ridiculous. You're over paying for food that a toddler can finish in a few minutes. On top of that the service is actually terrible, they aren't very kind and they do not listen. I asked for extra ranch, to which they did not give any at all. Also didn't give any sauce that already came with the meal. We didn't even receive a straw. When we eventually got our food it was cold. And after eating this twice we got sick each time. Well I went and ordered an oreo blast and a brownie blast and asked for extra brownie bits. There were 2 brownie bits, so I'm assuming one of those was the extra brownie bit. I couldn't tell you if the food is any good here because after placing a mobile order for a pretzel and a small soda I ended up waiting for over 30 minutes after my estimated time. I got frustrated with waiting so I asked for a refund and was COMPLETELY IGNORED by the staff for another 10 minutes. I even called on the telephone after I left to ask if could just get my money back and they just let it ring off the hook. I went to call the next day but checked my bank first and the charge was reversed which leads me to believe they were aware of their total disregard for customer service.... Very disappointed every time I come home from this place I'm always missing something. Even though I ask the ones working at the drive up window is my order all there ? They say yes hand it to me knowingly that they didn't really make sure before they handed it to me. Mostly my #1 orders never seem to make it home with me. I go to this location 95% of the time I am traveling through Merced. Everytime I order the same thing, the super sonic double bacon cheeseburger, no tomato, or onions. Evey time i am told there are no onions on this particular burger. So I said ok.... i get my meal and guess what, tomatoes and onions are all over it. I give them the benefit that everyone makes mistakes, so I just take them off... no harm, no foul. Luckily for me I dont have a food allergy, so its all good. But every time I go to this location now, I ask for the same thing, the same way, I get told (half the time with attitude) that there are no onions on this burger.... i try to say they were on it the last time, and I get cut off saying "well they're aren't any. So I go again last night, and order the same thing and I say no tomatoes. I open the burger and it is COVERED in onions, and pickles and tomatoes!!!! What???? I used to love coming to this location, their food was hot, quality was amazing, staff was always happy to help.... but in the last year, I dont know. Their mozzarella sticks aren't fully cooked, the cheese does not look melted or pull apart, it snaps off. Every burger my family orders is messed up. I try to give them the chance, its my favorite place to go. And I keep hoping that "this time" they will get it right. I finally wanted to write this review, because of people with food allergies... I'll start off as sayin', most of the times I had come... they were okay-to-fine in ratings. Yet on my most recent ordering, they had overcharged me for items that they could had asked if I wanted but no, not until I did the mathematics. They were charging me for two tator tots when I had just wanted one along with thinking they came automatically with only the meal, they charge them separately if you only order the meal entree only. I had two sets placed when I had said I did not want a combo. Along with ordering a 6 boneless wing meal only. Lastly to only come with a cup of ice. Then issues started to arise good I had done the mathematics and notice they were over charging me and could had costed me about $13 only for a $7.93 meal. They said okay and had removed the tator tots on the order but my debit card wasn't working, ironically I had just came from the bank atm and deposited a check. They said oh okay and went back and not until I saw they had miss ordered my boneless wings as Asian sweet chili. I had wanted honey bbq, never said the other. So after a while guessing a woman manager came and told me the order was correct and saw and yeah they had finally set it correctly and told me the card did work it was their machine as they tried again on another and it passed through. Might I add seemed as the female girl was annoyed like if it was my issue that started this when I hadn't. Her having that annoying bf. Checked my order receipt and noticed they finally had my order correct and yet they also charge just for a cup of ice. Making me lower their ratings. Never been to other places with this much issues happen in a single visit. They need to hire new employees or refresh their standards cause seems like they need them. Since my hometown doesn't even have a Sonic's (the closest one where I live is in Bakersfield and that's over 100 miles away), I took the advantage of visiting this Sonic's when I was in the valley before I went home. It was DEFINITELY worth taking the visit! According to the locals, that area was considered a "bad area" at night. Even if that were the case, I was more than willing to risk it just to visit a Sonic! After eating here, it makes me wonder why we don't have one where I live! read more

Best thing here are the "Happy Hour" slushees with nerds and the "Summer of Shakes" deals. I do like the whole old-school drive-in premise but I miss when they used deliver to you in rollerblades; That always fascinated me when I was younger and it probably still would today. As for rest of their menu, the food leaves a lot to be desired. When I tried eating there I did not like it. To me fast food always feels like toy food, but when I are here I felt like I was at the Hasbro headquarter's food division.
