We had been going to the Five Guys in Fremont since it opened but decided to check this one out since it's closer. Price of the burgers were just slightly more but it might be a firmwide increase and for a little more than $5, you get a 2 pattied burger with toppings like grilled onions and grilled mushrooms standard so still a great deal. If you want even more variety, they have additional toppings like bell peppers that they can grill before topping your burger. We had been here for fries in the past which we did notice were a bit burnt and less in quantity but this time, they were more evenly cooked and overflowing into the bag. The woman's bathroom here has 2 stalls vs. the Fremont Five Guys which had 1 while the Fremont Five Guys have 2 peanut stations to Hayward's one. So depending on whether you want the extra peanut station or bathroom stall to sway your vote, it is comparable. read more

I still decided to eat here because I was with a coworker, if not I would've walked right out. I've heard so much about Five Guys (and if you haven't, the reviews on the wall will tell you), so I was hyped to come check it out. The short verdict: solid but not spectacular. They've got a good concept going, burgers made to order with lots of toppings so you can customize what you're eating. I ordered the cheeseburger and as I unwrapped the foil wrapper, I was surprised to see how big it was... two patties in there! The burger itself was decent, but nothing so flavorful or memorable that jumped out at me to make me crave it again. We also ordered a small fries and thankfully we ordered small because it looks like they filled the cup and dumped in more than enough fries to fill another cup. So many fries we didn't even eat them all! That's the one thing Five Guys has going for them... huge portion sizes. A great place for students and guys (big portions, cheap prices, passable food), but if I'm craving a really good burger, there are many places I'd rather go. As many folks have said, I'll take In N'Out over Five Guys for a fast food burger. I think all the wall signs they have displayed with all their rave reviews from newspapers and magazines are a little telling... it's like they feel they need to hype up their food. I feel that a really good place doesn't need all that because the food and reputation will speak for itself. So happy that there is a Five Guys in my hood! I became a Five Guys fan when I first tried them in 2009 down in SoCal. I actually prefer them to In N Out but that's because of the variety of toppings. Sometimes I still get an In N Out craving, but my heart is with Five Guys. This location is hecka loud. Associates over the phone had nasty attitudes about the same order I order every time, I asked to speak to a supervisor and instead she gives the phone to another employee. Then I Came into the store and these two little girls made remarks like "oh no uh huh we don't do that here , I'm not doing that" then after explaining to the manager what I wanted (which is what I always get) my order still came out wrong. I've been wanting to try Five Guys for a while and did so the other day for lunch. My walked in on Sunday right before noon, but the place was already packed. We put in our order and then waited a couple of minutes before a table opened up. We ordered 2 bacon hamburgers, 2 sodas and shared an order of regular fries. A few comments: 1. I didn't realize the regular burgers were 2 patties. The burgers were huge! 2. The meat was cooked well done. The sign says juicy, but our burgers were very, very dry! 3. While bacon was extra, all other other toppings were free, including grilled mushrooms. 4. The fries were served in a paper cup, but the ones on the bottom all stuck together. 5. Any place with a Gold Peak tea machine,so that's always a plus. 6. Even though I told the cashier that we were eating in, they served our food in a to-go bag. Not very green, if you ask me. Plus, it made eating in a little awkward, as we had to tear open our bag to use as a tray/placemat. While I did enjoy my bacon burger, I prefered that it be cooked medium or medium rare. My wife wasn't impressed by the burger or the fries, though. Overall, with all the burger places around, I wouldn't come back on my own. read more

If you're looking for a burger fix but NOT on a budget, this is one of the better places to go when you're in the San Lorenzo-Hayward area. The place is generally clean and parking is never a problem. The burger portion is huge with all the free toppings, and a serving of medium fries (tip:get the Cajun fries!) is good for two. Don't forget the Heinz malt vinegar by the ketchup dispenser! They serve hotdogs too and are just as flavorful and filling as the burgers. The tasty peanuts are free. Just grab a cardboard cup tight on the peanut box and shovel away. But beware though, some hobos tend to come in grab some free peanuts. What's new on the menu is their awesome hand-churned milkshake. You get to choose up to three fixings (at least that's what the cashier told me). The chocolate, Oreo pieces and coffee was perfect...but was expensive. Almost $5.00 for a 16 ounce cup. If you're sick of In-N-Out, this is a great alternative. make sure to get there before 10PM. Finally had a chance to try Five Guys after all this time and it's...okay. Went with a cheeseburger and beyond the lackluster presentation (not the smartest idea to seal a freshly cooked burger in aluminum foil), I enjoyed the good quality patty and soft bun. The toppings could be much better integrated, especially the cheese as it's added on at the end rather than melted onto the patty like In-N-Out. To sum it up, the burger doesn't come anywhere close to justifying its premium over the quintessential Cali burger franchise and is destroyed by Shake Shack in every regard. I was in town so I stopped by to see if I could meet up with Five Guys. The atmosphere is clean and free of debris. No trash in sight outside. First thing I noticd is PEANUTS!! in my wild mind, I was excited. Next thing was that so far it seemed "slow" as in business terms, which makes me think pretty nice not much of a rush or long wait for food, cool! Observing the environment filled with reviews and positive praise, the cashier greets me with a cheerful smile and says, "Hi, welcome to Fivd Guys can I take your order." I order a Cheeseburger with simple condiments and the cashier was very patient with me. I'm still amazed at the fact she asked me did I want one Patty or two, never knew it would be like. Finally after two orders that have been ahead of me, my order number is called I received my burger followed by have a nice day and a delightful smile; I seat myself and look at my burger. From the length of it, I was pleased. How the meat and cheese was layered also pleased. Now here comes the taste...I enjoyed my grilled onions I enjoyed the jalapenos and the fresh ingredients. This burger was really good. However, I did finish it rather quick but considering my hunger I really enjoyed it. Next I had these nicely cut fries that had some potato skin on them. I don't know bout you guys but I love my fries with skin on them, they taste better that way. Anywho, though they were just regular size, but the amount seemed super plus I had bag fries. The portions for the fries are very generous, as a medium serving fills a cup and some left over in the bag. Service: Like many fast food establishments, the food is ordered and then eaten in the restaurant or as take-out. The place looks to be a bit understaffed, as there were only around 3-4 people working when I was there. Ambience: The place was near empty when I ate at the restaurant. The place has an In-N-Out feel without the crowds of people. The place could be cleaner, however, as there are peanut shells littering the floor (a consequence of free peanuts). I was excited when they opened up Five Guys and it's down the street from my house too! My family and i would come here religiously, giving them chances after chances, but after today I regretted not going to Taco Bell instead. Every time we order online for pickup, something ALWAYS goes wrong like a messed up cheeseburger. Today we ordered 4 burgers - One which was not even close to what we ordered (a bacon cheeseburger with ketchup, mustard, onions, jalapeños, grilled jalapeños, A1 and hot sauce). What was missing in the burger you might ask. There was no bacon, no jalapeños of any sort, no mustard, no A1 and no hot sauce! What kind of... seriously? The receipt tells the employees exactly what to put on the burger and we got a plain cheeseburger with lettuce and onions. This is not the first time this has happened even for the simplest orders. I think we're going to boycott Five Guys for a while until we just HAVE to have it. In n Out it is - the line they have is worth the wait.. plus they've never screwed my order. OH YEAH, I did try calling them 15 times (not exaggerating) but their line is always busy. I think they take their phone off the line to avoid dealing with complaints. read more

This place's name is VERY misleading. There are WAY more than 5 guys at the establishment, and there are women, children, and babies everywhere. Not only that, but I specifically saw peanuts and their shells all over the place. Well, at 5 guys, I figured out why. A regular hamburger, the smallest one on the menu, is 700 calories. That's a little less than half of your recommended daily caloric intake in one sitting. Mother would argue that I could run on less in a day but I digress. She's a money-mising wench, she is! Add toppings (150 calories lets say), small fries (310) and a soda (150-200) and your fat ass just consumed 8000 calories! God dang it! I wanted to yell, STOP EATING SO MUCH, YOU FAT FATTIES! After a day of shopping in the East Bay, I was starving...Famished...Went from a C cup to a B cup...Yeah, that bad... We drove around for a bit before we came upon this place. Meat, cheese and bread!!! Oh hell yeah!!! Walking in to this place, we noticed a stack of boxes with peanuts in them. Complimentary nuts? Why not? Love the free toppings they allow you to choose. You'd think about putting everything on the board on the burger but you find yourself not doing that because there are quite a few things on that menu. Burgers were cooked well and the fries were delicious because of the peanut oil fryer. Sweet baby Jesus was that good. But the one glaring thing about this place that seemed kinda weird to me was how many people were working in that kitchen.
