It's an "old school" set up with step-up ordering windows and old furniture inside. It looked just like the Foster Freeze we used to have in Alameda. However, my excitement quickly diminished when I saw the overpriced menu items. I went there to try their ice cream. I paid over $5 for a small "half/half" cone. Really? The ice cream wasn't that good. It was soft serve, but lacked an icy bite. It wasn't very creamy or rich. Service was nice, and the place was clean. Would I return? I was super excited to see this location open, so my bf being the wonderful bf he is, busted that U turn so I could get my ice cream cone :) There's a little order window or you can order inside. It's dingy AF inside. I don't really see how people come here for hot food lol But to each their own. Prices have gone way up, so it was about $10 for a small vanilla cone, and a small chocolate dipped vanilla cone. First review of the new year 2024 Keeping this short . I haven't been to foster freeze in ages ! I love their food . But for some reason I decided to get something I've never had from them . Fish and chips . I should of just stuck with a burger lol . Fish combo only comes with 3 pieces of fish and fries you can get in the freezer section with a drink . And it came up to 18$ it was not worth it . The fish was greasy and nasty . Fries was the only enjoyable thing . Oh and to top it off I grabbed some ketchup packets for my meal and they were all clumped together in food residue . Gross . Seating area is small and outdated but it's supposed to be old school feel . The workers were nice . I'll have to give them a better review on another day but for today . I'm not sure if I was hyper critical because the apple reviews are pretty scathing specifically about cleanliness But I'll give you my first impression experience I could feel the tension / awkwardness of the girl working cause I presume the older gentleman is also her boss / the owner. I've owned small businesses and know sometimes it can be tense working with the operating owner / manager lol A two person team seems to be the most they can have for the traffic but when I finished there was a nice rush for them. Overall if a business is honesty and tries hard I believe and support small businesses For $22.14 for a diet Pepsi double burger w bacon and small fries it's a tough sell for me. But the fries were crispy (unless in n out fries, and not burnt like well done in n out fries ) and the burger was ok. Toward the end though I felt like the burger in my mouth coagulated into the texture of play doh and I don't know if that's normal in a burger? Baby & I were hungry as I usually start all my reviews cause food is LOVE. We were in the area and I had to pee and we both remembered this place, they do have a bathroom on the side of the building and surprisingly it's super clean! At least the day I used it, it was. Delicious. I used to go to the Fosters in Alameda with my family before it closed, so I'm happy there's still one in San Leandro. I hadn't been to Fosters in years but still vividly remember the triple berry parfait I'd always get and how good it was. I was excited to see they still have it, so I ordered one along with the Old Fashion with cheese. I also noticed some of their burgers have onion rings, so I asked if they could add some to mine and they did. Food came out fast (we were the only ones in the place aside from one other person) and was super hot and fresh. I got the meal, which comes with a drink and fries, and the fries were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I couldn't wait to eat the parfait so I went for that first and it was as delicious as I remember it being. Love that berry sauce so much. My burger was cooked perfectly, the onion rings were crispy, and it was a satisfying size. My fiance is notoriously picky about burgers but he got the Old Fashion as well and really, really liked it and the fries. Loved how nice the cashier and owner were, too. I remember there was a Fosters Freeze near my high school and when the lunch bell rang, those students who had lunch money burning a hole in their pockets would buy something to eat off campus. I remember my parents going to ACE or getting their taxes done and stopping by Fosters for a dipped cone, $1 or $1.5 for a larger one! For fast food essentially, maybe a tiny step above, I paid around $50 something for two people Yes, I did enjoy my food and although there was a wait, I didn't mind because they were a tad busy and I got fresh food. Hubby and I have driven by Fosters Freeze so many times since I lived near by but never got the chance to go. We finally decided to go and give it a try. Plenty of parking here. You can either order outside at their window or you can go inside and order. We decided to go in. Nobody was inside at all. Once there we were greeted by an elderly Asian lady. We ended up ordering onion rings (since I've been craving for them), waffle fries, a small chocolate sundae and a medium (16 oz) Oreo twister. I have to say, the price is pretty expensive. I love how it is rich and creamy, I always go for the vanilla and chocolate swirl, while my toddler gets the fudge with a cherry on top, the husband get the oreo twister. If we are in the mood to share, we get the classic banana split and it's the bomb! They also serve savory menu, and we get corn dogs, the batter is fresh, tasty and crunchy! After having a very nice lunch at a local Hispanic eatery, we stopped here at Foster, Freez, a barrier nostalgic spot. Needless to say after asking for a Oreo, cheesecake twister, not only do you not get a clear plastic cup, but you do not get the ingredients that you see on the poster. I was handed a cup of what appeared to be an ice cream or milkshake with one single Oreo cookie when I asked for it to look like the picture that I took a picture of with my cell phone, she proceeded to break up the single cookie that I showed her the picture again and showed the different color type of toppings that were on it so she took it back again, and they seemed very upset to give me the actual pieces of cheesecake on top, which look like what I presented below. One hamburger will run you $10 a meal will be $15.67. The inside of the store smells like old oil and uncleaned floors.
