Let me preface this by saying that our food was really delicious and I've come to five bar before and had pretty good experiences. However this last time I went to five bar was on a Saturday afternoon and I was with a group of 5 people for my friend's 21st brunch celebration. We were seated by the host (who ended up being the manager after a later discovery) and after about 10 minutes had passed by and no waiter or waitress had come to speak with us. So, someone from my party went up the host stand to complain that we hadn't been waited on and it took another 5 minutes after my friend returned from complaining that a waiter finally came to bring us water. Because of the delay in getting to our table in any sort of timely manner, when our waiter came out he brought us two complementary avocado toasts, which was a nice gesture but not what we wanted (which was to just be served and have an enjoyable experience.) We then ordered drinks from the waiter, which were a soda, a pitcher of mimosas and a coffee. Another 10 minutes passed and we still hadn't been given drinks even though our waiter had come out two other times to check on his other table. We asked him to check on our drinks and he proceeded to blame the bartender for the delay. He finally brought the drinks out after a few more minutes had passed. At this point we had been seated for more than 30 minutes and all while this is happening, there were 5 other tables and, from what I could see, 3 other waiter/waitresses, so it's not like it was exceedingly busy and difficult to rush around with everyone's orders. When we had ordered our dishes at the same time as our drinks, the birthday girl and another person in our party had each ordered and requested breakfast burritos with no bacon and sausage inside because they're both vegetarians. The birthday girl took one bite when we got our food and immediately bit into sausage and when we opened the burrito, there was meat everywhere in it. So the waiter took it back and they remade her burrito. We asked to speak to the manager and explained everything that had happened during the meal and he was apologetic, but he was very defensive about everything that we brought up to him. He ended up comping the drinks but that didn't even apply toward the girl who's 21st we were celebrating so even though they messed up her meal and she had to eat after we had all been given our food 20 minutes before her. The whole experience was extremely disappointing and I would never recommend for someone to go here just order take-out. read more

Had a great brunch here 2 weeks ago. We shared some beignets (fried dough bites in a caramel sauce) which were a great starter if you like sweets. My boyfriend had the Bloody Mary bar and loved their selection of mixers and toppings... he had the breakfast burrito and said it was one of the best he's had. I had the chicken and waffles (a first for me) and I loved it!! Definitely recommended. It is a little expensive, but for a high quality brunch and live music (it's a jazz brunch) it was worth the few extra dollars spent. Yay Five Bar!! read more

I'm honestly a little shocked by the higher than expected rating... I don't think this place is the worse place ever, it's just price for what you are getting. If you are new to Athens, I would definitely go to a lot of other places before this place. However, if you don't want to wait for those places and want a finer dining experience and Mom and Dad are in town, yea this place would do. Although they only have five menu items for their brunch, you can't go wrong with any of the items. I have had their chicken and waffles and crab cake benedict, and both items are mouth watering. Excellent location, decor, food and Sunday brunch is my favorite! The small menu makes it easy to decide. They have a band play on Sunday's and a Bloody Mary bar that is delicious! Service could be a little more attentive but I understand it gets crowded. read more

I don't think I can add much more, considering how thorough the other reviews were. The food is GREAT, the service is pretty damn fast too. I love their cocktails - I had the Prose, which was rose wine, St. Germain, peach schnapps, and champagne, with a rose petal floating on top. My partner had the pineapple jalapeno margarita which was large and strong, though not as spicy as he was expecting. Our apps were the Uptown Shrimp and the Baked Avocado, both of which were delicious from top to bottom and served in generous portions. The Uptown Shrimp is a seriously large amount of food, DO SHARE IT! It comes on top of a really tasty slaw and in a fried wonton bowl and we ate the entire thing. Anything that was edible went into our mouths! Our entrees were the Surf and Turf and the Daily Catch, which that night was a blackened white fish with cilantro risotto. The portions were great, though my steak was overcooked and had some cartilage in it that I had to spit out. I've never had a filet that I couldn't eat all of the way through, and I wonder if a different cut of meat was used to "make" my filet. The stuffed shrimp were great as well, and wrapped in bacon. They weren't as big as "regulation sized baseballs" like another reviewer stated, they were more like golf balls. I'm not complaining - I was full as a tick after I finished eating. You also get free cookies with your check, so don't force yourself to have dessert if you are full. The small portion is perfect after such a huge meal. EDITED to add that this meal won't be cheap. Dinner for two with apps and drinks ran over $100, but it was worth it and I totally plan to go back. read more

My girlfriend and I went to FIVE to listen to jazz music while eating brunch. They use an innovative online check-in system, which send you a text message to alert you when your table is ready. That is pretty awesome. While waiting, I enjoyed a latte at the bar. It was on bar with the chains at about the same price. My girlfriend ordered the breakfast burrito. The cheese was rather thick, indicative of sitting under a heat lamp. Nevertheless the flavor was good. I order chicken and waffles, which I really enjoyed. The service is above average. The music was good. This bar is five stars because I think it is a little overpriced considering the location and quality. It is still a good place if you haven't tried it. read more

Food is so amazing hard to pick my favorite. Great place to share plates so you can try 'lots of items. The food is flavored so well. Price point to portions, well worth it. Salad dressing is DELISH. I only can comment on brunch. There was a bit of a wait for Sunday brunch, but that was expected. It was only about 10 minutes, since we only got there 30 minutes after it opened. My sister was in town and we decided to do brunch at Five Bar (we needed to change things up after going to Mama's boy all the time). I liked the fact that they offered a pitcher of mimosas (4 mimosas) for 15 dollars. My sister enjoyed the build your own Bloody Mary. The menu is super simple, with only five brunch items, so it made ordering super simple and easy. I decided to have the eggs Benedict with crab cake and I thought it was pretty decent, especially since we are not super close to the ocean anyways . There is usually jazz, but we may have gotten there too early and it seemed to start as we were about to leave! First, I absolutely love the concept. It cuts out so much waffling over menu choices and there really is something to please everyone with 5 options. However, it is so loud and service is sloppy/hit-or-miss. Prices are reasonable and the menu is varied and creative. Floors are sticky and it can feel a little dirty and unkempt. I think I'm disappointed because I feel it could be so much more with very little effort. Instead of being a go-to for me it's more of a fallback when the wait is too long at neighboring restaurants. With such great variety and competition nearby, Five really needs to step up its game. read more

I visited Five Bar on a Wednesday night around 7:30 p.m. for dinner with a friend. Well, I actually just kept my friend company while he ate. I didn't know what to expect before I got there. I had walked by Five a few times and it looked like a swanky wine bar (and I am into swanky wine bars). Our server provided us with attentive service and was great. My friend ordered two sushi rolls - the TNT, which was a spicy tuna roll for $14, and the "O," which was a crunchy shrimp roll for $13. We were told these were signature rolls are typically are only available at the sushi bar, but because the sushi bar wasn't that busy, our server told us that it wouldn't be a problem to order them. I tried each of the rolls and they tasted fresh and good. Their wine menu was unfortunately limited, so I ordered a Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan beer - it was $5, which seemed steep for me - other bars usually have this beer available for about $4. The place was surprisingly busy for a Wednesday night. I think perhaps there was a conference or event downtown somewhere. I am going to try this place again for a happy hour or brunch next time to see if I like it better. Happy hour goes from 4-6 p.m. with wine, beer, and well drinks half off. In addition, every Wednesday, all bottles of wine are half off. AND Thursday night is a ladies night with half price drinks wine, beer, and well drinks. Our server informed us that they have a good Sunday brunch with $2 mimosas. Bottomline: With good service and a nice atmosphere, this place seems promising as a good wine happy hour location, but be prepared to shell out about $30 per person for an entree and a beverage for dinner. read more

I love the Rule of Five concept here. 5 apps, 5 entrees, 5 cocktails, etc. Keep it simple. Variety is great but not being overwhelmed with choices is a refreshing change. Ordered the uptown shrimp, which were plump and coated in a sweet/spicy sauce served on a bed of mild slaw in a wonton bowl. It was fabulous and more than enough for two to share. For entrees we had the paneed chicken and surf n turf. The chicken was perfectly cooked , similar to a chicken piccata. The side salad was more fruit than veggie but they use local seasonal produce which I loved. I think their seafood is flown in fresh from the Gulf but I'm not positive about that. The filet was cooked perfectly and came with two enormous stuffed shrimp. Seriously they were regulation size baseballs. I had the jalapeño pineapple something or other margarita and I was surprised by how much I liked it. An occasional pepper seed made its way up the straw now and then and reminded me who's boss. The atmosphere is cozy and casual but also romantic, what with the dim lighting and the retro chandeliers hanging about. Great for a date night. Bring your wallet. Not the cheapest joint in town. I'm the furthest thing from a vegetarian there can be, but I would be remiss if I didn't warn my herbivore yelpers that I didn't see much on the menu for you. Maybe they can make accommodations, I don't know. I'm going back for the baked avocado. I think bacon is involved. I hear the weekend brunch is great, with some smooth live jazz offered up. Our server comped us two cookies out of the goodness of her heart. We appreciated that. Pay them a visit. read more

Use to be a favorite of mine but tonight a party of 20 was seated and extremely noisy. When I asked to be seated as far away from the group as possible the greater acted like that was a big issue. Saw two couple actually sit for a minute and leave. Excellent service though, as usual. Food was really good and so was the old fashion. I got the cheeseburger and it was a 7/10. Good ingredients but the bun was generic and the only topping was a knockoff Big Mac sauce that tasted good, don't get me wrong, but I would have like lettuce, onions, and tomatoes. My wife got the swordfish with the Mac and cheese. I give that dish a 10/10. The Mac and cheese had a creole flare that I liked. My final thought is the cab that I got was mediocre, so stick with the cocktails and beer. read more

Great place with delicious food. My brother-in-law lives in town and he highly recommended this spot. Great atmosphere with UGA and musical decor. Very comfortable. The baked avocado app is to die for. We also shared the pimento cheese and jelly which was delicious. Our party had the chicken panne, the cheeseburger and the fried shrimp. We were in Five Bar Saturday 5/4/2019 after my daughter's graduation with a group of 10. We would highly recommend the restaurant. the food was excellent with some highlights being the gulf-coast platter, the ribeye steak, bone in porkchop, and the Italian sausage Cavatappi. Each dish our company raved about. the white chocolate bread pudding is defiantly worth saving room for, Delicious. The service was very pleasant. We went here for brunch before the GA LSU game and it was really good. My friends had the crab cake Benedict and shrimp and grits. My wife had the benets and I had shrimp and grits. For drinks, the girls had bellinis and the guys had bloody mary's. The bloody mary's were $8 for the first and $4 for subsequent drinks. The best part was the bloody mary bar, where you a have a huge selection of ingredients to make your own bloody mary. Brunch for four with two drinks each ran just under $80. Really not bad for a game day in Athens. I'll be visiting five bar again. read more
