    Seafood fettuccine Alfredo Pasta
    Courtney N.

Overall a good experience at The Chop House, my only 2 dislikes were that my Seafood Fettuccine Alfredo pasta could have used some seasoning (everything kinda blended together and tasted the same). And it was either the noise level or our server was just soft spoken, but we could just barely hear her. We went around 6pm for Mother's Day, so the lighting was perfect, as well as the rest of our food.

Dinner with friends-portions were big enough to split with a friend or take home leftovers for an appetizer later. Food is consistently cooked appropriately and tasty. The vegetables are not overcooked. I liked the piccata . My friends liked the salmon, chopped steaks, and the burger. All 3 said their choices were perfectly done and they would order them again. The sweet potato with cinnamon butter is a favorite. Bread comes to the table while you wait. Service is great. Plenty of parking . Sometimes a little noisy.

The steaks were seasoned and cooked to perfection. The service was fast & efficient. The ambiance can best be described as "linen table cloth" style....well appointed tables and service. I highly recommend this establishment!

New York Strip with baked potato and corn brûlée

Visited the Chop House to celebrate a house closing. We had a 7:00 reservation to sit at the bar. The restaurant is very nice and has a steak house feel to it. We had a wonderful server who took great care of us all night. I ordered the prime rib. It was delicious and perfectly medium cooked. The loaded potato was full of sour cream, chives, cheese, and bacon. My wife got the New York strip. She had it Pittsburgh style, seared on the outside and medium rare on inside. First came out a little rare but was corrected by the kitchen. We both loved our corn brûlée. Overall a nice celebration meal.

I like the deviled eggs with the piece of bacon in it. The shrimp & crab cake combo is ok. I got a grilled shrimp from my friend's plate to eat with my salad & it was good. The crab cake is more bread than I care for but it's flavorful. JA liked her sirloin steak & mashed potatoes. The calamari & fried shrimp was good & I also took a couple of those shrimp to eat with my salad. I think JO liked the fettucine ok but will probably try something else next time. I prefer the lunch prices! I had the lunch combo of chopped salad with a voodoo chicken taco, which I really liked both. The server was nice and the ambiance is perfect. This is my favorite spot in Athens so far.

Decided to try chops after graduation night because they were the only place that was taking/had reservations. The atmosphere of Chops is very upscale--dim lighting, profession yet friendly staff. It's a shame the food didn't match up the ambiance. I ordered the catch of the day which was the mahi mahi on rice pilaf and a side of loaded baked potato. Mahi Mahi was salty and dry which was sad because the rice pilaf had so much potential. Was not a fan of this fish at all, and everyone who ordered it at the table agreed. My friend ordered the rib eye which j tried a piece of and that was pretty decent. The only thing I truly enjoyed was the loaded baked potato. For appetizers we had the shrimp and calamari. Once again, very salty almost distractingly salty. I'm such a calamari fan but I did not enjoy this. I tried the Southern Belle to drink, sweet but strong. I would order it again if I wasn't driving. Overall, for this to be classified as an "upscale" steakhouse, the food was very lackluster. It gives very much LongHorns with an expensive price tag.

The food: I went with the Fried Chicken Blue Plate. Between the regular and the Nashville Hot, the Nashville was the winner--flavorful and moist without being overwhelming with the spice. Huge shoutout to my server for suggesting the brussel sprouts; that glaze is incredible and they were easily my favorite part of the plate. The mashed sweet potatoes were unique--I'm still debating if I liked them or loved them. The jalapeño cornbread was a bit sweet for my taste but on par with most restaurant cornbread. The mac & cheese wasn't bad, but also didn't do much for me like most restaurant mac & cheese. The cocktail: Do not sleep on Nana's Naissance. I wasn't sure what to expect from the ingredients, but it's like an elevated take on Rumchata. The service: I was seated at the bar and experienced a noticeable delay--a group that arrived well after me almost finished their meal before mine arrived. However, the waitress acknowledged the wait before I even had to mention it and made things right. I really appreciate that kind of proactive service. We're all human, and they handled the situation very professionally.

Nestled in a gorgeous building that was once a residential house, the restaurant has a gorgeous and cozy ambience that makes you feel like you're visiting with friends from the moment you enter. The menu changes with the seasons, and I've never been less than impressed with the often-inventive dishes. I highly recommend starting with their cast iron cornbread. It sounds simple, but it's truly elevated. Right now, the sweet potato brown butter pierogies are absolutely mouth-watering, and the hazelnut bread pudding is rich and a perfect blend of sweetness and cream. The waitstaff is top notch and you'll receive better, more attentive service here than at restaurants with much larger price tags in Atlanta. They also have an impressive cocktail program and wine list. On the "it's the little things" list, the candles 5 & 10 uses in the restroom are outstanding! A chaotic period, and when my brother and/or I were in town to help out with these exhausting and time-consuming tasks, finding quick, reasonably priced, somewhat healthy, and hopefully tasty food was challenging indeed. I unfortunately didn't discover Maepole until 2025, but it nicely ticked off those boxes. Maepole is basically a "fast casual," Southern-inflected "bowl" place, with a much heavier emphasis on the nutritious and fresh than is typical of traditional Southern cooking. You start with a base, just like at Chipotle or Cava--greens, sweet potatoes, or quinoa, etc.--and top with veggies or salads, and, if you prefer a protein, you can add chicken, pork, or tofu. Or you can just go full-on veggie plate. Top with a flavorful sauce; my favorites were the spicy avocado and lemon herb. My general impression of the food quality was that it wasn't quite at the five-star level some of the time--veggies weren't always cooked to perfection, for instance--but the general experience and value, as well as the bold flavors, argue for bumping this rating up to five stars. Plus, every time I think about Maepole, I sure wish my current city had an option like it.

And just as many drink options, including locally made kombucha. I ordered the winter salad and low country plates. With the exception of the turmeric ginger dressing (a little too zesty for me) and the hoppin John salad (hoppin John OR salad ... not both ) EVERYTHING was delicious. I enjoyed the salad way more than I thought I would. The spicy avocado dressing is YUMMY! The greens were cooked to perfection - another shocker. The edamame crunch, tofu and crunchies were just as delicious. I will visit the Atlanta location just to try the fritters! A wonderfully healthy and scrumptious delight !
