Awesome family atmosphere fun for adults and kids with excellent southern menu and full bar!

My wife and I met a friend here for lunch. We were seated quickly and had our drinks. I ordered the Cobb salad with chicken fingers, my wife the fried catfish, and our friend the vegetable plate. My salad was loaded with cheese, veggies, egg, and chicken on shredded lettuce. The ranch and honey mustard were good dressings. My wife liked her catfish filets but thought the Cole slaw tasted funny and the limas were so-so. The vegetable platter was not a favorite either. Our server was good and kept our glasses filled. Nice casual restaurant outside Watkinsville, very noisy but family friendly. Food: Fried okra appetizer was good and my friends liked their fried green tomatoes. Chicken and pork dishes were ok. Sides are the usually expected southern fare-potato salad, canned green beans, French fries, etc. Facility-Casual, clean, combo of sports and games vibe. Parking lot is ample. read more

I'll give it a three because we like the chicken fingers and sliders, but unfortunately we won't be ordering the beer cheese and dough bites again. They changed the cheese or messed up the batch. It had a strong taste of horseradish and it quickly went from our favorite to terrible. We'll be back, but not for those. read more

Our company has been a frequent customer of Classic City Eats since July 2023, this is the first time that we have written a review of this nature. Today I was very disappointed. I was attempting to place our usual Friday lunch order, but my call was not going through, so I drove to the restaurant and advised the server that their phone was not working and place my order. Morgan the waitress pulled the phone from her back pocket and indicated to me that she's had the phone all day and it had not rung. She made me feel like if I was lying (Not good). I showed her the numerous attempted on my phone. An "I'm sorry I would look into it" would have sufficed but what can you do? She proceeded to get my handwritten order and failed to get the order correct. I wasn't in the mood to wait another 30 minutes for my order. read more

Sat at the bar and service was a bit slow. Ordered the jumbo wings and got miniature wings after a very long wait that apparently they cooked the whole time because the meat was gone. Would not recommend this as a dinner spot maybe they do sandwich's better but I won't be finding that out any time soon. Come of team CCE, you can do better. read more

This is the most unfriendly place I have ever been too. Although the food is great, the service is HORRIBLE. The staff are children, well young adults, who never smile and never put the customer first. Unless your a regular or friends of the owners and their kids, you are not made to feel welcome. I have been coming here for over a year because of the food. However, today was the final straw. My experience today has to do with the attitudes and the being charged for an item we sent back because it was terrible - which is unusual for them - but I sent it back and still got charged for it. I had a crazy hankering for some good fried catfish, so I went online to a local group and asked for recommendations. A whole lot of people replied to me with suggestions from all over the area plus some that were not so close by One of the closest places was the one restaurant that was recommended repeatedly. Headed out a little past lunchtime today, hopefully to beat or to miss any crowds, I remembered on the way that our local newspaper does not put out a Monday edition so I decided to swing by the library and pick up a Flagpole magazine. I got all the way to the library before realizing that it's a Federal holiday and the library is closed. Very disappointing. I stopped at a convenient store on the way and picked up on Atlanta paper. I don't really like the Atlanta paper, they don't have the puzzles I like, and they don't have very many comics. I got to the restaurant and there were only two or three cars in the parking lot. I wasn't really surprised because it was almost 2 PM when I got there, so I didn't expect it to be very crowded. The server wasted no time getting me seated and gave me a table near the window, with plenty of light so I could read my paper. She was fast talking, fast walking, super friendly, and a great personality. We laughed and laughed. I looked over the menu just in case but as I said, I already knew that I wanted a catfish plate. It came with the standard coleslaw and fries and hush puppies and that was just fine with me. They have a nice patio out back with a few games . One thing that surprised me was the game room they had in the back of the dining room. They had quite a few good games in there. It's a definite plus for this place. It didn't take long to get my food. First, I'll talk about the catfish they were three pretty good size fillets and they were fat and cooked perfectly. Delicious! Sadly I didn't care for the fries. They were an odd color like maybe they were seasoned but they didn't taste seasoned. They taste like they were cooked in dirty oil. I won't order those again. The hush puppies were the same. They were small, kind of hard and tasted like they were cooked in dirty grease. I will never order those again either. The coleslaw I'm kind of on the fence with. I prefer the large, chunkier cut vegetables. This slaw seem like it was almost creamed, the flavor was OK but I didn't care for the texture. I won't be ordering the slaw again. I'm sorry to say I was a little disappointing with my meal at Classic City Eats. I came for catfish and loved loved loved it. The rest of the meal was mediocre at best. I'll try different sides next time. I will come here again. They have a lot of stuff on their menu and some of it looks pretty interesting. The service was impeccable! my server takes credit for 3 of the 5 stars here. The food was really good too. I got the fried fish that my server recommended , she also threw in a few hush puppies. I went to Classic City Eats in Watkinsville. I ordered hush puppies (they were good) but they cost $1 per bite. I got the chicken wings. I'm pretty sure that chicken wings aren't supposed to taste like hot dogs. It was as if they had boiled or soaked the wings in old hot dog water. Have you ever smelled hot dog water? Well, that's what the wings taste like. They were so bad that I couldn't even finish them. All of this topped off by the fact you will dine under fluorescent light. It gives the room a quaint high school cafeteria vibe, and there's a small arcade with skee ball for people in Watkinsville that don't want to drive 18 minutes to Chuck E Cheese. Sadly ... Chuck E Cheese has better food. read more

Salad came out totally wrong....no salad dressings for either. No condiments for fish, no mayo ..even asked 3 times...no mayo. Told them just take salad off I didn't want another one, yet they sent another one out. Waitress would not come to table( I know they were busy) to see if we needed anything and refused to bring check. Gave a dirty look when asked for check. Owner had excuse after excuse. I didn't want excuses just fix it. No discount...just an apology and went into rude mode. Won't be going back. read more

Food was just okay. Prices were astronomical!! Dinner for 3 adults and two children ages 3 and 5 cost over $100.00. The place was not busy at all but the wait was about 15 minutes for the table and the waitress coming to take our order must have gone on break just as we sat down because there was an additional wait once we were seated. Old "Champy's Famous Fried Chicken". We have been coming here for quite awhile and was surprised at the new name. They have a lot of the same things as Champy's but no more baked beans-which I LOVED-but added several new items. I opted for my old standby 2 fried breasts, mac n cheese, and fries. The fried pickles and chicken are still EXCELLENT!!!!! The sides are meh but the service is still great! I'll still drive an hour and a half to eat here and spend the day in Athens which is a pretty cool town. read more

First of all, Craig C has no idea what he's talking about! This food is absolutely delicious! Had it the other night and the fried chicken taste like mamas! Got the sampler appetizer and was extremely impressed at how good the quality was on all the fried foods! Not too much grease. Wonderful flavors! Service was wonderful and knew me by name after my first trip. Been back a few times since and Anna Lee and Late were perfectly knowledgeable about my order and personable with my name. Went to eat with my family because they had been but I had not. Ordered drinks. My son and hubby got theirs but mine was taking so long. I ordered a club soda with lime. I guess the bartender was waiting on other tables and didn't fix it. The waitress said she had to fix it. I finally got it after out app showed up. We got fried pickles which were good but they were $10 which I thought was crazy but my hubby ordered them b/c my son wanted them. My son got the hot dog with chili. He was very disappointed with it. It wasn't chili - it was just beans on top. He barely ate it so that was a waste of money. I had the chicken sub. The chicken was really good but there wasn't anything else on there. It was dry. Me and my bf went here for our first time and got the app for 2 for $25 and we split everything in half. SO much food. Not disappointed. Everything was piping hot. Our drinks stayed filled. Service was great. The only thing-not a fan of the meatballs. But I didn't let that stop me from enjoying my meal. Great experience all around. Next time, we're getting some 40s. :) read more

The crew at Classic City Eats took amazing care of a huge party of over 50 of us for a surprise graduation dinner last night. They did an amazing job. From the moment I sent the email asking if it was possible, every need or question we had was met quickly and efficiently. The staff had an area set up for us and even offered to help us decorate. They were patient and kind to us all. I know that having such a large group can be difficult for both the front and back of the house, but they handled it was professionalism and ease. I just wanted to let anyone know who is looking for a place to have a larger group dinner, this is the place to go! The food was fresh and hot, and the drinks were kept full and cold. What more could you ask for? We had never visited before, and will definitely be back. If they do such an amazing job with 50, I can't imagine how well a night out with a "normal sized" party will go! read more
