I had a crazy hankering for some good fried catfish, so I went online to a local group and asked for recommendations. A whole lot of people replied to me with suggestions from all over the area plus some that were not so close by One of the closest places was the one restaurant that was recommended repeatedly. Headed out a little past lunchtime today, hopefully to beat or to miss any crowds, I remembered on the way that our local newspaper does not put out a Monday edition so I decided to swing by the library and pick up a Flagpole magazine. I got all the way to the library before realizing that it's a Federal holiday and the library is closed. Very disappointing. I stopped at a convenient store on the way and picked up on Atlanta paper. I don't really like the Atlanta paper, they don't have the puzzles I like, and they don't have very many comics. I got to the restaurant and there were only two or three cars in the parking lot. I wasn't really surprised because it was almost 2 PM when I got there, so I didn't expect it to be very crowded. The server wasted no time getting me seated and gave me a table near the window, with plenty of light so I could read my paper. She was fast talking, fast walking, super friendly, and a great personality. We laughed and laughed. I looked over the menu just in case but as I said, I already knew that I wanted a catfish plate. It came with the standard coleslaw and fries and hush puppies and that was just fine with me. They have a nice patio out back with a few games . One thing that surprised me was the game room they had in the back of the dining room. They had quite a few good games in there. It's a definite plus for this place. It didn't take long to get my food. First, I'll talk about the catfish they were three pretty good size fillets and they were fat and cooked perfectly. Delicious! Sadly I didn't care for the fries. They were an odd color like maybe they were seasoned but they didn't taste seasoned. They taste like they were cooked in dirty oil. I won't order those again. The hush puppies were the same. They were small, kind of hard and tasted like they were cooked in dirty grease. I will never order those again either. The coleslaw I'm kind of on the fence with. I prefer the large, chunkier cut vegetables. This slaw seem like it was almost creamed, the flavor was OK but I didn't care for the texture. I won't be ordering the slaw again. I'm sorry to say I was a little disappointing with my meal at Classic City Eats. I came for catfish and loved loved loved it. The rest of the meal was mediocre at best. I'll try different sides next time. I will come here again. They have a lot of stuff on their menu and some of it looks pretty interesting. I've shared some photos of their menus so check it out and see if there's anything that you would like.

Catfish plate is really good. The calzone was good. Wings were really small and tough. The fries weren't seasoned great.

We did not have a reservation. They were so kind at the front sat us within five minutes. There is also outdoor seating that was pretty crowded too. The menu is very affordable. The portions are generous in the food quality is fantastic. My husband got the fried fish, I got the Carolina burger, which are sweet server. Told me is their most popular. It is a double smash burger with pimento cheese, bacon, jam, and a Black Eyed Pea Bass, just a little and it is delicious. The star of the show is the sauces for the fries. The fries are hand cut, and there are six different sauces to choose from. We had garlic aïoli, beermustard, and smoked paprika. There is a 50 Cent charge if you get more than two, we were happy to pay it. They were out of the hand peach pastry pies, again, who knew they were so popular we will get one for sure next time because we will go back. Really really enjoyed it

Both were excellent (if I had to pick one that was better, crab fritters but... they were both great). For meals my wife had the bacon chicken and she raved about it while I had the pecan crusted salmon (I loved it). Everything we ordered was not for someone on a diet or looking to eat light BUT there are no complaints as it was all delicious. We did not get a dessert but maybe next time, the brownie sounded good. Worth mentioning, our server was great and when we walked in around 7 there was a corn hole league happening outside and there were about half the tables taken (it was also the first Tuesday after New Years). Great dinner date spot. We will be back.

You walk in, grab a tray, and you've got options. You can go through the hot bar and get served right there, pay, and be on your way... or order off the menu, sit down, and they'll bring the food to you. Very simple and efficient. The inside is spacious with plenty of seating, and there's also outdoor seating if you want it. Parking is easy too, which is a big plus, especially compared to the chaos you'll run into closer to Helen. Food wise, I always judge breakfast spots by the chicken, egg, and cheese biscuit... and this one held up. The chicken was tender, the biscuit was soft and fresh, and overall it was a solid start. The surprise for me was the hashbrown casserole. It came out good, but once I added a little salt, the flavor really popped. Definitely worth getting. The pancakes were also done right... nice crispy edges with a soft, fluffy inside. That's exactly how pancakes should be. Menu wise, they've got everything you'd expect from a Southern breakfast spot... biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, country ham, pancakes, omelets, and even lunch style items like burgers and plate meals if you come later. They also have a Coca-Cola fountain, which is always a win. Service was friendly, especially for early morning, and the whole place just has that comfortable, old-school home cooking feel. There is also a drive thru if you don't feel like leaving your car. Overall, this is a great spot if you want a good breakfast without the crowds. Simple, tasty, and easy.

The food: I went with the Fried Chicken Blue Plate. Between the regular and the Nashville Hot, the Nashville was the winner--flavorful and moist without being overwhelming with the spice. Huge shoutout to my server for suggesting the brussel sprouts; that glaze is incredible and they were easily my favorite part of the plate. The mashed sweet potatoes were unique--I'm still debating if I liked them or loved them. The jalapeño cornbread was a bit sweet for my taste but on par with most restaurant cornbread. The mac & cheese wasn't bad, but also didn't do much for me like most restaurant mac & cheese. The cocktail: Do not sleep on Nana's Naissance. I wasn't sure what to expect from the ingredients, but it's like an elevated take on Rumchata. The service: I was seated at the bar and experienced a noticeable delay--a group that arrived well after me almost finished their meal before mine arrived. However, the waitress acknowledged the wait before I even had to mention it and made things right. I really appreciate that kind of proactive service. We're all human, and they handled the situation very professionally.
