The food is always very good, BUTT the service leaves a lot to be desired. I have had issues getting through via the phone numerous times even when I have been sitting out in their parking lot and they are not busy. The ladies that work there are rarely communicative and there is never a greeting by anyone. I ordered food earlier this week and they forgot to put in a side item. I called them to let them know and the lady was genuinely apologetic. I asked if they could make a concession on my next order and she took my name and said she would have a manager call me. Never received a call which was service issue number two. So I placed an order today and proposed that they give a pint of Brunswick stew for free. When I arrived, again no greeting and the lady looked dead at me for several seconds. Maybe I don't fit the expected demographic to be served. A gentleman came out handed me my order and and said we replaced your okra from last time. I asked if they would make a concession and he said they couldn't. I don't buy that for a moment and won't be buying my favorite bbq here anymore due to the series of unprofessional mishaps and the lack of value as a customer. I also support the Boston butt drive they do every year with one of the local agencies here in town, BUTT that will no longer be the case. I'll miss you Butt Hutt. read more

Just moved back to Athens and have been to the restaurant weekly. We have really enjoyed the food. Seems like they have really stepped up their food since we moved back. My wife had the wings on wing night and loved both the dry rubbed and the medium sauced wings. I had the veggie platter which has the best potato salad. It is creamy and delicious. The fried okra is tasty and the stew good. Our nephew loved his combo platter. The mac n cheese was good and enjoyed the ribs and chopped chicken. Our server was so nice and provided great service. Definitely in our restaurant rotation. read more

when i rate this a 5 star rating please don't go in there expecting michelin stars and fancy china. their trivia is so awesome and there's always a crowd. to date i haven't had better wings and ranch that weren't out of a food truck. i also love their green beans and half chicken plate (basically a better version of crispy rotisserie chicken). they have the best potato salad (and i hate potato salad) bar none. best bbq you'll eat on a paper plate and i'll put money on it read more

I preordered a smoked Turkey for Thanksgiving and it was absolutely amazing and very juicy. Today is Sunday and it's still very juicy and delicious three days after thanksgiving! Definitely ordering one every year from here on out! Craig Lee sure knows his way around the smoker. I also ordered 50 smoked wings for our watch party for the Georgia/Alabama game and they were also delicious! I had a meeting over the University of Georgia campus and I've heard about the butt hutt so is able to go over and grab some lunch before we went for our meeting. True bbq place with simple interior, bar with cold beer and some really good pulled pork and smoked chicken salad that was the bomb! Got a couple of cold beers and enjoyed our lunch watching some golf. Had great service they were really on the ball very inexpensive very tasty. Highly recommend!!! read more

Sunday may be the wrong time to visit, as they get busy, and they ten to run out of things before replenishing their stocks on Monday. HOWEVER, we went on a Sunday, and still enjoyed our food. My wife and I both got a Buttwich. The name of this sandwich appeals to my inner nine-year-old, and the sandwich itself appeals to my mouth. The shredded pork in that sandwich was tasty, and the regular house sauce is an excellent accompaniment. I tried the mac and cheese, and it did not disappoint. My wife had some fries. They got cold kind-of quickly. We shared some corn fritters and I loved them. My only complaint there is that I want more of them. I took some banana pudding home for dessert. Charmed by the name, this was the first place that I checked out in Athens. I'm not a big bbq person, so the whole menu was pretty new to me. Everything was great! Corn nuggets - creamed corn deep fried, dusted with salt, maybe sugar and honestly the best damn thing I'd eaten in weeks! Chicken Mull - If smoked chicken potpies were soup, they'd be chicken mull. Incredibly delicious and perfect on freezing winter nights. Banana Pudding - I've avoided eating bananas as a dessert but, in an adventurous mood, went ahead and tried it. We got onion rings for the side and it brought back memories of getting onion rings at the shore in Jersey. Idk if they were battered in beer but I sure was! We picked up a basket of ribs with potato salad & a basket with brisket with Mac n' cheese. Both meats were delicious with out sauce, however I tried the vinegar, hot & sweet, all were delicious. The vinegar has a strong black pepper taste, the sweet wasn't overly sweet and complimented the dry rub on the ribs, the hot was spicy but not overly hot. The potato salad has bacon in it & was some of the best potato salad I've ever had. The Mac n' cheese sadly was nothing to write home about. "Really?....Unhh-Onnh", so I got up to look, and low and behold there's a bar in the back!!! ROTFLMBO!!! Just had lunch here, I don't understand why people gave two and one star reviews. We started off with the fried pickle chips which were outrageously good with the what-what sauce. I had the rib basket with coleslaw ($9.95) 4 large delicious perfectly cooked ribs, and tasty Cole slaw with a unique spice to it I just could not put my finger on. My son had the butt plate ($9.95) with slaw and corn nuggets- all of which were delicious. We had so much left over - enough for another meal. The staff were all friendly and efficient. This place is a solid/consistent 3 stars. We dine here frequently as it's the best BBQ we've found around Athens that doesn't give me heartburn. BBQ pork sandwich is good. Not a lot of bark usually (which is likely why I don't get heartburn from it but it is the tastiest part). Brisket sandwich is mostly good. I've had it twice, but it's usually very fatty. I asked this last time I had it whether you could order it sliced and you can, so I will do that next time to see if it will be easier to eat and not have to pull globs of fat out of your mouth while dining. This is served on Texas toast. I prefer the bun given the high fat content of the brisket (why add more, right?). Because of the way they chop the meat, it also makes it a bit hard to eat (which may be solved by ordering it sliced). Fries are awesome. Tried the slaw and it's "OK" Stew is overly sweet. My companion would always order this if it was good as it's usually his favorite at BBQ restaurants. Salad -- ugh. I just wish that one BBQ restaurant (other than having to drive to Jim-n-Nick's) would have a decent salad. Iceberg, cheese and tomatoes with meat is not a decent salad, it's more of an afterthought. Chickarones -- I wasn't in the mood for BBQ one day when my companion wanted to go, so I ordered these as my entree protein with a side. They were tasty and crunchy but there were only a couple of small bites of actual chicken meat ... it was mostly just fried chicken skin. I've tried the fried okra a few times and it was good the first time and burned every subsequent time I tried it so I stopped ordering. I really dislike that they use styrofoam cups. Why not buy some cups and wash them? In a town like Athens which is largely environmentally conscious, this is a major faux pas IMO. read more
