The food service and ambience were all great. This was our first time visiting the Trappeze pub. It was game day, Georgia versus Tennessee State. Tennessee got stomped. The pastrami Reuben sandwich was and the tabouli salad was pretty good. The tabouli salad was made differently than I remembered tabouli, but it was pretty good. We sat in the new seating area. The waitress said was done within the last year. The bar and restaurant were really nice with all the different seating areas they had available. Highly Recommended, Unfortunately Not Impressed I visited Trappeze Pub after it came highly recommended, so I was looking forward to having a good experience. Unfortunately, my visit was disappointing for several reasons. I asked to sit outside because the weather was really nice. However, after being seated, I waited about 15 minutes before anyone came to take my order which turned out to be the same male host that greeted me. My server came to take my order and said I forgot about you. What made it more frustrating was that the restaurant was not particularly busy around 2:00 PM. Once my order was taken, I had to ask for basic things such as cutlery and more water. I ordered a burger and fries, and typically the server will ask how I would like the burger cooked, but that question was never asked. After finishing my meal, I eventually had to get up and go inside to pay my tab because my server never returned to the table. The food itself was fine, but the overall service and attention to detail really took away from the experience. When a restaurant comes highly recommended, expectations are naturally higher, and unfortunately, this visit did not live up to them. I hope this was simply an off day, but based on my experience, I left feeling underwhelmed. read more

Have been wanting to try this place for awhile now. There's a lot of good meal selections in downtown Athens and Trappeze is definitely one of them! Service was great and they have a restaurant side along with a pub/bar side. On my first stop in I opted for the turkey and cheese on sourdough along with a Caesar side salad. In town in Athens for a show at the 40 Watt Club and we were meeting a friend of mine for dinner beforehand. He lives in the area(ish) and recommended Trappeze Pub as a soliding dining option that is also very close to the venue and, having had a meal there, I can now corroborate that assessment. The space is quite big which made it super easy for us to grab a table. We were seated in a section of the restaurant with a bunch of booths so it was nice to have a quieter space where we could catch up with our friend and have a nice meal. For my dish I went with the grilled cheese BLT (muenster cheese with bacon, tomato, arugula and lemon thyme vinaigrette grilled on sourdough) and fries and I quite liked it! Nothing fancy but it was good and and I would absolutely try it again. Currently rocking the sober life so I can't speak to their beer line up personally but the menu did look quite robust! And as someone not drinking I must also recommend their root beer. Great casual spot perfect for a bite, a hang, or all of the above when hanging out around town. read more

Another update.... I haven't been back to Athens in about 2 years and I've missed my beloved Trapeze Pub. Going in again after so long had me nervous because often times, restaurants that serve up the greatest food ever usually don't keep up that level of quality for too long. Whether it be using cheaper ingredients to increase margins, or the business getting complacent from all those years of success and damn good food. Well I must unfortunately report that my car mileage will be going through the roof traveling back to Athens more often because THIS PLACE STILL SLAPS! The Carolina dip was as good as EVER and the cheer wine wings were some of the best I've ever had. I don't know how they keep doing it but trapeze pub stays on top. While visiting Athens on a work trip, I was craving a good meal. A friend suggested Trappeze, mentioning it was one of the best restaurants in the area. I was sat in the bar area. The server/bartender was awesome, very attentive. I got a glass of wine, french onion soup and the steak frites. Everything was delicious. Athens, what a great little town we were directed to trapeze pub by the Hotel clerk. We received it right away. Of course it's only Tuesday. We had a wonderful friendly, bubbly, attentive, waitress named Riley. She met all our needs. My husband had the Panko parmesan crusted chicken with beer mustard, mashed Yukon golds and grilled broccoli. I came for a rehearsal dinner. We had a private room and the food was buffet style. The appetizers were sliders, buffalo chicken dip, veggies, and fries. Popped in for lunch on Sunday and we were seated and greeted quickly. The brought out cold water in stainless cups which was nice (no ice needed!). We had the pimento cheese and hummus to start and both were delicious. We had the pub burger and tabbouleh salad, which were also great. It's a big space and lots of room - the bar looked nice too. Excellent draft beer selection and lots of fun cocktails to choose from too. If you're looking for a good casual spot with great food and drink options this is definitely your spot! read more

Let's start with the service at the bar - phenomenal! I'll likely massacre the spellings here, but Nico and Izland were amazing! Nico was fairly new, but had a great spin on cocktails and humored me taking a gin & jam drink and sub bourbon since I don't like gin, and it was fantastic to the point I was disappointed I didn't make it back over the weekend for another. We had a burger and some bar food, which is pretty much our jam. The blue cheese fries left a tad to be desired as I am accustomed to more cheese and likely a sauce, but the fries themselves were tasty and it came with a choice of dipping sauce, so no trauma. The jam with the pimento cheese was the star of the show (hence the drink order). Now the true test to a restaurant is how they handle it when something goes wrong, and someone got distracted and the lamb burger was nearly a hockey puck when it came out. Nico was on it, took it back to the kitchen with all the apologies and we were presented with a replacement that was perfectly cooked. It was super tasty with the onions and toppings to the point that we didn't even care there was not a gluten free option. Bathrooms were immaculate, as was everything, and the bar area very inviting. One of our favorite spots in downtown. Lots of seating, great service, and several unique and delicious dishes. To start, you have to try the Cheerwine Wings. They are one of the best and most unique things I've had in Athens to-date. Perfect flavoring. A bit pricy, so that's the only downside as I could probably eat an almost endless amount based on the flavor. Otherwise we've had the fish, chicken sandwich and several other dishes--all of which have been very flavorful and cooked perfectly. Honestly, a bit disappointing. Fries are SO soggy. Do not get the sweet potato fries they are sooo soggy. I got the fish and chips but grilled with a side Caesar salad and the blue cheese dip. Nice that they have gf options. The server was very sweet and good service. Beware that they are unable to split checks 7 ways! The grilled fish honestly was pretty good and so was the caesar salad but the slaw was under-seasoned and the fries again were the biggest disappointment. A friend and I were in Athens for a concert recently and we stopped by Trappeze to eat dinner beforehand. I had the pub burger and my friend had a burger as well but with no bun (since she's allergic to gluten.) I loved the burger but it was pretty messy though. It was definitely falling apart by the time I was finishing it. I think it tasted great but I just kinda wish the greens on the burger weren't all over the place and that it was easier to eat lol. I was a fan of the fries. Our server took some time bringing back our receipts when we were waiting to leave, but I still think the service was pretty good overall. I finally got the chance to head back here after the pandemic and all the renovations. What was once a nice "pub" atmosphere is no more. The lighting is very bright and it has lost it's old world charm. It's a standard restaurant with a bar now, nothing more. It feels "sanitized" compared to the old Trappeze. The beer menu has been reduced quite a bit. A decent selection, but still not the expansive menu it once had to find your new favorite. The food...well, the food the night we were there was more like HS cafeteria food than restaurant quality. The Chicken sandwich was underwhelming and the Caesar salad consisted of limp lettuce drowned in dressing. It's was very disappointing for the prices paid. I abandoned the salad about halfway through. I once loved this place dearly and visited often. I'm not sure I'll be going back. Maybe for a beer if I'm downtown, but definitely not the food. I hope this was just an off night and not the new standard for the bar. read more

Had I remembered to read my prior review I a) probably would have suggested lunch elsewhere or b) would have tried something else on the menu. T got a hamburger. The staff is always extremely friendly and takes great care of me, making sure that my drinks are full and never rushing the table even when it is busy. The food never disappoints. We found this lunch spot on our walk through downtown Athens and boy were we thrilled to find it! The style and furnishings drew us in and the menu made is get a table. When questioned we were told they were holding several tables for reservations, but not once did we hear anyone say they had a reservation. I've been here before and though it's usually slow, the food is good and the service is decent. However, I went here for my formal dinner and received awful service. The food runner dropped fries in my lap as she was placing the food down and did not acknowledge it. Then, as the waitress was handing my friend her drink, she spilled diet coke on my dress. Finally, as I was eating my chicken sandwich, there was a hair in my food. I told the waitress and her reaction was to question me instead of apologize and work to make it right. The service was great, food came quick and hot. My soup with delicious. The tofu on the taco was cooked perfectly and the Buffalo sauce had some good heat. My boyfriend loved his Turkey and Swiss sandwich. The fries are rated some of the best in Athens and they were good. Taste like they are fried in peanut oil. You can get some different dipping sauces like raspberry ketchup but regular ketchup and malt vinegar was perfect. My boyfriends mom got the French Onion Soup and said it was tasty. His step dad also got the Turkey and Swiss. Everyone was pleased with the food. It was Game Day so the atmosphere was very lively but not too loud or crowded. We came to Trappeze Pub for a late dinner on our way into Athens. We parked in one of the decks downtown and walked about 5 minutes to the restaurant. We came in around 9:30 and we were seated immediately for our table of 4. To start off, we got the mai tais and they were incredible! For the main, I got the chicken sandwich with the fries. The chicken sandwich was fine nothing absolutely amazing. But the fries.. the fries CARRIED. THESE are award winning French fries. They were amazing and the aioli they came with made the day.
