Went here for brunch with my sister and enjoyed this place. They have a build your own Bloody Mary bar that was very nice. And their pitcher of mimosa was generous in my opinion. The chicken and waffles I had were delicious and she enjoyed her eggs Benedict. I like that the menu doesn't have too many items on it and that they do Gulf to table for their seafood. They also have live music during brunch. Their menu is pricey but the servings aren't too small and the food is good and the restaurant is a bit nicer than many. I'd love to see how their dinner menu and happy hour holds up next time. read more

The ambiance is on point! Lots of touches here and there, from the portraits on the wall (of various people, places, etc.) to the wooden interior, that give the restaurant a cozy feeling. Service was also sufficient. Sufficient, since our server seemed to take a bit too long to notice our table's empty drinks. The food was also delicious. It is a bit pricey, though, for the portions you get. While my friend and I both finished our plates... well, suffice to say, we were still hungry when we left the restaurant. Amazing. Great service too (I wish I remembered his name). I had the paneed chicken. I travel for work so I try to find the best places. I've had some great food on the road, but this was the best pan fried chicken I've ever had. And that sauce that's on top -holy goodness that's good! Even the broccoli was the best I've ever had. In a hyper competitive food scene like Athens places have to really stand out when it isn't a Saturday in the fall. Five Bar was ok, not bad, not great. It was crowded when we came for lunch but the service was still slower than what it should have been. When I'm in Athens I want to enjoy my meals so when I sit there for 5 minutes with an empty glass that gets under my skin. Waited an hour and 15 minutes for cold food. The waiter kept saying they were short staffed but two tables of 8 sat down after us and got served before us. We let him know we had to leave for the Atlanta airport and that we needed to have our food and then it still took another 20 min. What should have been a relaxing breakfast with our daughter became stressful and rushed. One of us ordered the shrimp and grits that was supposed to have sausage and onions and peppers and we got it and it was just tasteless grits with 4 shrimp and nothing else in it. Toby, our waiter, was exceptional and made this a very pleasant experience. As many of you know, I love this restaurant concept and look forward to the day it's more widely implemented. They only serve 5 meal choices, and if you don't like it great: leave. I'm a big fan of the establishment and first found out about it through their Tuscaloosa location. That said, my experience here differed from my Tuscaloosa memories in that: 1.) this location seemed to be pricier - 5 Bar is always a premium product but seemed about 15-20% priced than perhaps it should be. $13 Dollars for a burger seems a bit much OTP, regardless. 2.) They don't have draught beer, only bottled beer. What gives? We ordered pimento cheese + spicy jelly (top notch, delicious) with the mahi mahi freshly flown in. I had the burger. All were delicious, with the mahi mahi definitely tasting fresh. I recommend eating here next time you're in town. My advice to 5 though: sell some of the 57 chandeliers in the place and lower your prices. Nice touch with the Bear Bryant pic on the wall... read more

Atmosphere: stylish, modern polished concrete floors, great tunes, dark lighting, and an open kitchen. Of interest about the restaurant: 5 starters, 5 entrees, 5 white wines, 5 red wines. They drive in the catch for the weekends from the dock on the gulf coast. I've been to Five Bar four times now on different nights over the course of 4 months. This was an experience to say the least. My friends and I came to get cocktails and dinner and ended up just leaving after our appetizer. All in all we were there for an hour and saw our waiter a grand total of three times. The restaurant wasn't too busy, he just spent a lot of time talking to other servers. While sweet, Trey took about twenty minutes to bring our drinks the first time. The uptown shrimp was good though! We did get charged full price instead of $5 for the drinks, but he brought his consolidation cookies. (Not too sure where they came from). read more

I can't imagine why I haven't gone to this establishment earlier I'm always walking past it but we didn't this time and I'm happy we didn't it's a cool place and the staff is very attentive without being over bearing. We sat outside and took in the sites and energy of the night. The food is amazing this is my new favorite in Athens. I call it our new Friday night. We went to this place last night for dinner and it was amazing. I had the fried chicken, which is quite frankly the best I have ever had. My spouse had the steak which looked awesome. My side was Mac and cheese and it was done old school yummy, not starchy and crispy at the top. They dredge the chicken in a milk based concoction before the flour and it made it not greasy. So good! I cannot say enough positive things about this local Athens restaurant and bar. Five offers outstanding service, a classy and romantic atmosphere, great mixed drinks, and delicious eats. The food is a bit expensive but worth every penny in quality and flavor. My fiancé and I have gone on multiple date nights here, and every dish we have gotten has been unique and satisfying. Last time I got the seafood platter and WOW- the catch of the day (tuna) was cooked perfectly and seared/seasoned to perfection. My fiancé and I also regularly crave their cheeseburger- again perfectly cooked, perfectly juicy, and served with a unique and mouth-watering sauce. I generally like this place. They have a good cheeseburger and great salad. However, tonight I had the "Gulf Catch of the Day" which was grouper (or so they claimed) and all I can say is that if that is what you are going to serve then you would be better just not offering because it was horrible regardless of COVID. This place is... okay. This was the second time I've eaten here over the course of four years and I just don't get the crowds. I guess it lucks out due to its proximity to last resorts 45 plus minute wait times. While I like the idea of a limited menu as that is usually promising in regards to quality, this place just doesn't deliver. The quiche lacked flavor with a dry crust. My husband's burrito was over cooked. And our hashbrowns were greasy and wimpy. I wouldn't be so compelled to write a review if it hadn't been for the nearly $50 brunch bill for a lackluster quiche, burrito, and two coffees (with no refills). So many better places in Athens that value quality, service, and creativity for the price tag. This place obviously wants to try and be that hip and exclusive restaurant but they just don't make the mark. read more

Great restaurant in downtown Athens! I have dined here multiple times for dinner and everything is great. The service is always wonderful as well. The salad with strawberries and goat cheese is amazing (highly recommend!). All of the entrees for dinner are great and you really cannot go wrong. Their dessert is great too, and good to split with others. The ambiance of this restaurant is very quant and somewhat romantic. The lights are low, there are chandeliers, and nice ornate furniture at the entrance. The restaurant is near Last Resort downtown. The prices are a little higher than most places in Athens, but it is a very nice and classy restaurant. read more

Good restaurant in downtown Athens. I get a feeling they get a lot of the overflow business from the Last Resort. Took a while to figure out the five concept. All groups of food have five items, appetizers, entree's and so on. This place is associated with a restaurant out of Destin FL so the sea food here is very good and fresh. I have had as their special the swordfish, grouper, snapper, and some other fresh fish over the years. All come out perfectly cooked. There is always a side dish and they also serve a salad on your entrée plate. I am not a big salad eater anyway, and do not like it as part of my entrée. My little quirk. Wine list is kind of limited but the bottles are a good price. I enjoyed the restaurant atmosphere and the service is always really good. We have been fortunate to have the same waiter more than once and he does a great job. read more

"Taylor" , the amazing and cute bartender behind the bar knows how to make you feel welcome and at home! She whipped me up one of the best Bloodys I've had in awhile. Then to top it off , they have a "make your own" bloody mary bar on Sundays that ROCK!! After leaving here there was no way I was driving, the atmosphere is fun, clean, and we even saw Kirby Smart who is a growing legend among the UGA Elites! This is a fine establishment in Athens. I've met the owners on several occasions and they are absolutely wonderful. If you are a fan of seafood, this is a great place and for great entrees. The food and drinks are pricey but the restaurant and staff live up to the expectations set because it is a fine dining. My favorite drink that i had was a rosé with a rose in it. The wife & I made this our second stop on date night to grab some drinks & dinner. This was our first time coming to 5 Bar & we were pretty happy. When you first enter it is very inviting with a nice open dinning area & a small bar off to the right. The staff is very friendly & quick to seat us (it was just starting to pick up around 6:30ish) & take our drinks & app order. Now, the theme is a menu with 5 apps and 5 entrees with fresh homemade ingredients. The description of each item is very detailed & the staff does a very good job filling in any gaps of questions you may have. The wife ordered a few different apps for her dinner & I went with the pasta special. We had a few cocktails & enjoyed every bit of our meals. The staff encouraged feed back about the food & seemed to really only want to please. Literally the only reason I didn't give this place a 5 is because I thought the breading was a little heavier than I typically like on the fried products. Other than that the food was done really well, the drinks are nice & strong (good pours by the bar keep), & the establishment is very clean (restrooms included)! It's a family friendly place with a catchy theme with the 5 items done very well & a great place for date night. The wife & I will be back with our friends next time for sure. P.s. Let me preface this by saying that our food was really delicious and I've come to five bar before and had pretty good experiences. However this last time I went to five bar was on a Saturday afternoon and I was with a group of 5 people for my friend's 21st brunch celebration. We were seated by the host (who ended up being the manager after a later discovery) and after about 10 minutes had passed by and no waiter or waitress had come to speak with us. So, someone from my party went up the host stand to complain that we hadn't been waited on and it took another 5 minutes after my friend returned from complaining that a waiter finally came to bring us water. Because of the delay in getting to our table in any sort of timely manner, when our waiter came out he brought us two complementary avocado toasts, which was a nice gesture but not what we wanted (which was to just be served and have an enjoyable experience.) We then ordered drinks from the waiter, which were a soda, a pitcher of mimosas and a coffee. Another 10 minutes passed and we still hadn't been given drinks even though our waiter had come out two other times to check on his other table. We asked him to check on our drinks and he proceeded to blame the bartender for the delay. He finally brought the drinks out after a few more minutes had passed. At this point we had been seated for more than 30 minutes and all while this is happening, there were 5 other tables and, from what I could see, 3 other waiter/waitresses, so it's not like it was exceedingly busy and difficult to rush around with everyone's orders. When we had ordered our dishes at the same time as our drinks, the birthday girl and another person in our party had each ordered and requested breakfast burritos with no bacon and sausage inside because they're both vegetarians. The birthday girl took one bite when we got our food and immediately bit into sausage and when we opened the burrito, there was meat everywhere in it. So the waiter took it back and they remade her burrito. We asked to speak to the manager and explained everything that had happened during the meal and he was apologetic, but he was very defensive about everything that we brought up to him. He ended up comping the drinks but that didn't even apply toward the girl who's 21st we were celebrating so even though they messed up her meal and she had to eat after we had all been given our food 20 minutes before her. The whole experience was extremely disappointing and I would never recommend for someone to go here just order take-out. read more
