Let me first say this, why hadn't I been to The Pine earlier? This restaurant is soooo good and in a perfect location, Five Points! Pine Bar is a small restaurant that has a variety of wines, mixed drinks and tapas. There are 2 outdoor patios, one covered and one uncovered and in an inside too. They take reservations as well, but we came around 6pm on a Wednesday and they weren't too busy. By 6:30pm, it started to pick up though! We came specifically for the happy hour. Which is 5-7pm and they $15 bottled wines and $1 off raw oysters. We were promptly seated on the patio when we arrived, given water for us and our pup that had joined us. We started off with drinks and a dozen oysters, let me say these oysters were very good and they give you everything you need to eat with them. I wonder if the saltine crackers are homemade! Next we ordered 3 different tapas: the cauliflower, hummus and slider trio. All were super delicious! I got the quiche with a side of pimento grits. The grits were great - warm, the right amount of cheesy. However I would really recommend AGAInst the quiche - it was room temperature, very firm and dry (as opposed to soft, fresh, n eggy), and I had to force myself to finish it because I was hungry. We are intentional in getting tables before 6 pm or after 8 pm at any places similar to just feel... relaxed and not rushed. No pressure for table turns over. We also like bar seats to just... ya know... have the service whenever you need. Special of shrimp bisque also was like 'blah'. Otherwise, hush puppies, I'm not from the south so like 'Meah', the relief with white bean salad and creole sauce was needed. Fillet tips - lovely! Sliders - a little dry but flavours were nice. Brussels - top notch. Oysters - yesssssss! We did their Xmas oysters from Maine wood fire baked and raw - just awesome! We should have got half a dozen of each! We did the goat cheese and prosciutto and 'Meah' on that just because of the amount vs price. There were lots of things I would have tried on the menu. All time fav restaurant in athens. I just went to get oysters at another restaurant in athens and felt compelled to come write this review because nothing compares to the pine. The ambiance is amazing, the servers have ALWAYS been so incredibly nice and the oysters are my favorite. On my 21st birthday last year a waitress even stuck a candle in our oysters and it truly made my night. This bar is incredibly welcoming and a perfect in between of causal and dressy. My bf and I have come to eat here before formal events or just in causal clothes and felt like we fit in each time! I absolutely adore the pine & there is not a bad thing on the menu. Great place for brunch in Athens, friendly staffs and quick services. They have the patio seats outside perfect for sunny days. Love love love this restaurant! My boyfriend and I went on a Saturday night. We got the cauliflower as an appetizer. It was delicious! Lots of flavor. The hot sauce was a little strange - it was pretty thick, but overall a great dish. We split two entrees. We got the salmon and one of the specials (sea bass). Both pieces of fish were perfectly cooked. The potatoes and vegetables that they came with were tasty! I wasn't a huge fan of the dill cream sauce that came with the sea bass but I easily just ate around it. Overall a great dining experience. We will definitely be back! read more

Our favorite restaurant in Athens, by far! Service and food have always been top notch. I love that the owner mingles with the patrons. It is quaint and has a wonderful vibe. We love having a variety of things to try that comes with a tapas menu. The pimento cheese crostini are my favorite, with the okra and sliders a close second - simply delicious. The restaurant has a bar downstairs with a more casual atmosphere. My husband and I would love to eat here more often if parking weren't such a challenge, but that's part of being in such a charming and popular area of town! read more

I've been praying for a solid tapas and wine bar in Athens for years. I've also heard great things about the Pine but never visited until tonight. During COVID they switched up their menu, and they are making my tapas dreams come true. We started with their wood-fired oysters. 10/10. I could've eaten them all night. I'm always on the hunt for good chargrilled or wood-fired oysters and these take the cake for Athens. Bonus...everyday until 7PM they are on happy hour for $1 off. We shared a bottle of wine - also on happy hour. We had a cheese board, gambas al ajillo, grilled steak tips, and the bacon wrapped dates. Any of their cheese or charcuterie come out with an awesome spead of pecans, jam, crostinis, and olives. The gambas al ajillo was delicious and provided an awesome dipping sauce for the bread we had on the table. Bacon wrapped dates. We ordered a second round - enough said. Grilled steak tips...cooked perfectly. So flavorful. We can't wait to get back. Also, Megan our server was greats. We also got to chat with the owner, Scott. He's awesome. My boyfriend and I stopped at this place for dinner on a Saturday night. We got a table right away which was nice. I ordered the deviled eggs with the quinoa salad, and he got sides; Mac and cheese, Brussels sprouts and potatoes. First off our waitress was amazing! She was attentive, knowledgable, friendly and on task. I would go back just for the service! Our food came and we dug in. The deviled eggs were a great choice. You get three and the favors will change depending on the day you're here. Mine were mostly traditional and extremely tasty. quinoa salad came next, and it was okay. It was lettuce, veggies and quinoa with a pecan dressing. I just found the dressing kind of eh, but that could just be my taste buds. The salad overall didn't excite me and I packed most of it up. My boyfriend loved the Mac and cheese, said it was one of the best he's ever had. We both loved his Brussels sprouts and I feel they were cooked perfectly. We were so so on the potatoes, we were not crazy about the sauce, but again that could just be our tastebuds. I would come back here for sure, but I'd to probably just get drinks and appetizers here instead of dinner. I was more into the sides and snacks. Also, if you go here I hope you get our server! This place really didn't do it for me. The staff was really nice , the wine was good and the restaurant is cute but the charcuterie is really expensive. It's like $4 for like 6 tiny slices of cheese so to build a whole charcuterie board will add up. If you're looking for an expensive place to celebrate something with friends this could be a good choice but overall it would probably be a better idea to just make your own board at home. read more

I was drawn to this restaurant because of it's location and was pleasantly surprised by the result. Although it is a little on the pricey side and it's a small venue, the food was great. My mom ordered the special of the night which was a shrimp pasta with a unique sweet potato sauce. I had a flatbread with pear, arugula, and tomato. My dad had a rainbow trout with peach salsa and grilled okra - which was cooked very nicely - not slimey! Not bad food, but a) quite overpriced and b) SO LOUD. One of the loudest places I've ever been. There are at least a dozen better and equally nice restaurants in Athens for your money. But if you're 40 and want to get tipsy with your friends, you'll probably see them here. (At least that's the vibe I got). I wasn't able to sample the food at The Pine, as their kitchen closed at 10 PM on a busy game day Saturday night. In spite of the Yelp listing showing business hours until 10 PM, they were open well past 11 PM for bar service. It was hard to tell if they were actually open or not, or if they were just continuing to serve post-game happy fans after a UGA football win. Nevertheless, the atmosphere seemed inviting and open, and there were ample tables as well as bar stools for patrons.Don't expect downtown/Clayton St.-like shenanigans here, as the Five Points area is decidedly quieter, especially at night. Waffle House has the lion's share of the action. Service was feasible directly at the bar itself, as table service (if it exists) wasn't happening late at night, so we had to approach the bar for menus and drink orders. As with most Athens bars, the drinks themselves are inexpensive, but I would surmise that The Pine attempts to cater to a more "sophisticated" crowd who doesn't mind a $9-$11 glass of local Frogtown Cellars Sangiovese or a $6 pint of Sweetwater IPA served in real glassware by bartenders who have a bit more passion about their craft. I do wish their business hours were more clear, as it seemed as though they weren't enthused about serving customers "late" on a Saturday night. I'm not an expert in food service, but I would assume that keeping the pizza oven running a bit longer and having clearer business hours could make for several more happy, paying customers. read more

But THIS restaurant is more than worthy of a 5 star review. I got my meal to go and I really am sad that I couldn't tell them in person, instead of phone call as I ate, that the Chicken Tikka Masandwich I ordered was nothing short of jaw dropping. I literally chewed twice and gave my roommate my other half to try. I couldn't just tell her. I didn't bother trying to. She had to experience it. I've lived in Athens for all of my college career, I'm a senior, and this was the best sandwich I've ever had. It's so good id work for them. The Pine is a go-to in Athens, GA! It is located in a wonderful neighborhood that is perfect for when you want to try someplace that is near downtown but unique. It is designed to be a neighborhood spot (everyone will know your name soon enough!) but with a great farm-to-table menu, thoughtful wine selection and great draft list it is definitely a destination point too. During happy hour you can enjoy some great deals and watch a game on the flat screen tv, or take it outside to the patio to watch the world go by. At night, the mood definitely shifts to romantic or maybe you could go for one of their events. Lots of great wine and spirit tastings happen there! This is truly a business run by a very caring and talented group of people who care A LOT about their guests and also their staff, and it shows! Definitely bring a tinder date here. We never went to aromas so I will not be comparing it to the Pine. We have gone to the biscuit brunch three times....and each time the food, drink and service have been great! We have had the biscuit with homemade sausage and egg....sausage was seasoned well and eggs were cooked perfectly each time! Sausage gravy side was really good, house made jam was a great touch!. Manager quickly checked in each time and service was good and consistent each time. My only complaint...and I am splitting hairs at this point is that I would have preferred a cushion on the chairs, because they are metal.....but this s just a personal issue for me and is not going to be stopping me from retuning....! I'm giving this place 5 stars because it seems that people have been pretty harsh on this place for reasons I didn't see. It should be noted that I travel the south for a living and eat little local restaurants ALL the time. This place had a great atmosphere, huge bar, and cute patio. The staff was extremely friendly and very attentive. The owner approached me on a few occasions to ask if I needed anything and how things were. I had the salmon ($22) which I felt was fairly priced and it was excellent! The entrees on the food menu could offer more selections but the variety was good. Different specials each day as well. Came here for lunch on a saturday. They only served the brunch menu until 2pm. Was a little disappointed with the limited menu choices. They offered flat bread (did not look fulfilling), biscuit sandwiches, sandwiches and salads. I chose to try the sausage egg and cheese biscuit. It sufficed but not worth the $7. A bit dry and I feel like I would have been happier getting a biscuit sandwich from chickfila. The service and the atmosphere is on point.
