Came here for lunch on a saturday. They only served the brunch menu until 2pm. Was a little disappointed with the limited menu choices. They offered flat bread (did not look fulfilling), biscuit sandwiches, sandwiches and salads. I chose to try the sausage egg and cheese biscuit. It sufficed but not worth the $7. A bit dry and I feel like I would have been happier getting a biscuit sandwich from chickfila. The service and the atmosphere is on point. My mom and I were visiting Athens to tour UGA. We wanted a nice place to eat out. After searching on yelp, I stumbled across the Pine and decided to give it a try! I'm so glad I found it because it was AMAZING. Definitely one of the best dinners I've had in a while. I ordered the special: pan seared snapper on a coconut risotto with mushrooms, local radish, and cilantro oil. It was absolutely delicious and I ate every last bite. Great place with a cozy atmosphere. We stopped in for brunch and we were not disappointed. I had typical eggs and some pimento cheese grits....ya. The grits were absolutely scrumptious! The other menu items looked delicious as well. I noticed a brick oven in the kitchen that I'm sure produces some awesome meals. The service was friendly and prompt, and we never had an empty glass. They were fairly busy as well. I was told they have great happy hour deals and awesome specials. I would love to visit on a early winter evening to just have a few drinks and an early dinner. What a fine addition to the Five Points neighborhood and a huge improvement over the previous denizen of this location, Aromas. They have a wood-fired oven. I had a flatbread with braised lamb and mango and then a big bowl of mussels. It was busy as all get out on a Wednesday, but the staff were very attentive, helpful, and cheerful. As another (at this point, the only other) review said, I hesitate to dole out five stars too readily. I was going to give just four but I couldn't think of any reason why to withhold the one. We always stay close to Five Points when we visit Athens and we typically have our dog with us. The Pine is good because they have outside seating but the service can sometimes be slow, considering all we are there for is drinks. They have a good local selection of craft beer on draft and in can/bottles and their specialty cocktails are pretty tasty. Never eaten at The Pine before so I can't speak on that but as far as having a place that is close, dog friendly with good drinks and a tv outside The Pine does the trick for us everytime. read more

This is my favorite restaurant in Athens. It serves interesting, fresh, and reasonably priced dishes with consistency each and every time. Their menu constantly changes, which is both good and bad. Good because there is something new to try each visit and bad because when we find a favorite, phenomenal dish, it is gone from the menu next time. For example, a green-chili queso app was a favorite then last night I had what may have been the best dish I've ever had in Athens; a Thai-shrimp and red chili special. The quinoa salad was awesome too and tasted really fresh. Well done chef. The brunch biscuits are great too. Bloody Mary's are solid. I wish the mimosas were a little cheaper like some other restaurants offer during brunch. Beer offerings are high end and flavorful though expensive. We thought this restaurant looked very inviting when we entered. We both ordered the special - a pasta dish. When it came, we were disappointed to find that it was loaded with green olives, something that was not listed as an ingredient on the specials board. These affected the flavor, but we also found the chicken in the dish to be rubbery and the fusilli pasta to be rather tough or dense. In full disclosure, the management did take a few dollars off the price for each of our entrees, but no manager came by to speak with us. It is just really important to list an ingredient like olives when you are describing a special. Many people do not like them and do not want them to flavor the dish. The fact that neither of us found the $22 entree to be at all good encouraged me to go ahead and mention this in the review. read more

My husband and I tried The Pine for the first time last Saturday, and I am a fan! The food was delicious. I got the falafel sandwich with potato wedges and it was pretty good. My husband's meal was the real winner for me. He got the italian braised beef sandwich with the macaroni and cheese for his side. The sandwich was delicious (although it was a little difficult to eat because the bread got soggy). The macaroni and cheese was some of the best I have ever had. I've been craving it since I had it there. My only complaint is that we did not get the best service, but this can be overlooked some because the restaurant was super packed. read more

Came in for brunch. Overpriced menu. A biscuit and jam for $5? Limited menu has few interesting offerings. Ordered biscuit with over easy eggs. About 15 minutes after we ordered they informed us they had no eggs, but they had scrambled eggs. Which logically to me means they use egg beaters. Yuck. Anyway there is a small portion of the kitchen that is open air and one of the chefs was making the flat breads and sandwiches. No gloves, wiping his hands on his apron repeatedly, but picking through toppings and touching his face. Really unappetizing. I met a friend here last night. Even after reading the poor reviews we came because my friend said it was great. well, I am very happy we came and can't wait to go back. I live in 5 pts. and so happy to have such a tasty place to eat in my neighborhood. I never went to aromas, but the cocktail I had, a pomegranate spritzer, was amazing. It had sage bitters, vodka, and was perfectly mixed to make a beautiful drink. Our awesome and sweet server recommended a red wine that is now my favorite wine and both my friend and I enjoyed a couple glasses. The food was very impressive for the prices. I had a flat bread, the Ezra, and for $6 I cannot complain. Delicious and made in their beautiful wood fire. The buffalo cauliflower was soooo good. A little spicy and would like the option to get it mild, but regardless it was one of the highlights of our meal, especially with the blue cheese sauce with slivers of celery... a very nice touch. The brussel sprouts were outstanding, the squash casserole was cream, warming, and a great side dish. My friend, who is a restaurant owner and chef, got the philly cheese steak and commented on how difficult it is to make an authentic philly chz and that The Pine got it just right. The service was outstanding. I wish I could remember the name of our server (Sunday night, yesterday, around 6:30, we sat in front of restaurant). She was so sweet and really sold the food and drinks to us and made helpful suggestions. Everyone comments on how the atmosphere is too bright, but I found it pleasant and we were so comfortable we stayed a couple hours eating, drinking, and talking, and enjoying the pretty 5 points view. I hope The Pine makes it and stays around as 5 points needs a non-pretentious restaurant with great food and drinks. I can't believe it's taken me so long to try it out, but I will be back for sure and will recommend to others. Well done! read more

This restaurant is not bad, but not amazing either. To be honest, I really liked the place it replaced better, Aromas, which was owned by the same person who now opened The Pines. Aromas served great cakes and was cozy. However, both restaurants had one thing in common - average food. Yes, they have things on the menu with ingredients that appeal to "foodies" and sound fancy, but really when it comes down to taste it's not impressive. I had a philly cheese steak sandwich that was good by all means and enjoyed, but not memorable. My partner had the lamb meatball sub which was good too. But my question is this: with an awesome bakery across the street why aren't you using their bread or similar? The sandwich bread was like a Kroger sub roll. The atmosphere makes you think the place will be tastier than it is...it's well decorated and very fresh looking. I hope it gets better. They have potential, but need to kick it up a notch I quality. Oh, and they should offer a bread basket or munchie before the meal since it is a sit down cafe read more

Great place! The atmosphere is very relaxing. My husband and I just popped in for some drinks. The people working there were so nice! The owner was super nice as well. He spent several minutes just chatting with us, getting to know us and answering all our questions about the place. All in all great visit. We didn't eat because we had just eaten, but we watched them prepare many meals and they all looked delicious! I definitely will be back to try of the fire cooked meals. Perfect spot for a date! This was one of my favorite places in Athens to meet friends for a coffee or beer. Good food and drinks, but I especially enjoyed the Pine for the laid back atmosphere. It's a very chill place...especially in the outdoor seating in the front. Loved sitting out there with friends, to chat and watching sports games on the television. For someone in their thirties it is ideal as there are few college students around, so it's not a crazy atmosphere like so many bars downtown. It's in a really nice and safe part of town (Five Points) near the intersection of Lumpkin and Milledge. I only had lunch there once, but I remember it being really good, with really interesting and delicious soups. read more

This place only seemed to want to cater to upper-class townies. My friends and I waited for 2 hours to be seated because they "forgot about us." Then we ordered small plates and they took forever to get to us, when others who were seated after us were getting their food way before we got ours. Ridiculous. Not worth the price. However, they did try to make things better by giving us dessert on the house, but I couldn't eat it because I'm on a diet. Half off meals would have been a better solution. Anyways, don't go here. I'll start this review by saying I like this resturant and will definitely go back soon. The atmosphere is fantastic and the prices are great. The decor is on point, it has a very modern look to it and very inviting and cozy. The menu is crafted very well, I had the catfish dish last night, my girlfriend had the chicken tikka. They brought the food out in no time at all. Not too long, not too short. Perfect timing and it was very presentable, meaning the dish looked like a piece of art. The staff was also very knowledgeable of the menu and the drinks (on tap and wine available) good recommendations and very friendly. So the food was excellent and the drinks were great. The hostess was extremely rude and wouldn't get anyone to clear the 2 huge open tables outside so people could sit down. When you have a wait time of over an hour, it would make sense to use all of your tables. There were also a lot of seats at the bar but the hostess wouldn't let anyone sit down because "she was seating people there". Only bad experience which led to me staying away for 6 months was cheesesteak and buffalo cauliflower which I had on my first encounter at the recommendation of server maybe 6 months after it opened. New chef or kitchen culinary whiz whipped up tarter sauce for my friend to go with her flounder which was 6 ounces of flaky deliciousness tonight. He's the main reason for my review. Poor service and bland, overpriced food. Came for brunch and it was pretty empty, definitely under 50% capacity. Yet it took over 40 minutes for a pre-made quiche/side salad, and crab cakes. Quiche was bland and dry, but the overall serving size was in line with the price tag. The "creamy cucumber" dressing was gritty, watery, and bitter. The crab cake was well seasoned and moist, but the three pieces lettuce it came on did not qualify as a "bed of greens" nor could we get a good impression of the tomato/cucumber salsa when only a tablespoon topped the dish. At $12 a plate for two cakes and garnish marketed as a salad, we expected more. We had to flag down another server for a beer after waiting 15 minutes after 12:30 to order from our own. Our server never checked in to explain the wait. In our entire waiting time, she stopped by once to refill my $3 coffee. ... $3 for Chock Full O'Nuts, with the canister sitting on the counter. We might come back for a cocktail, since the bar looked well stocked with quality offerings, but we won't make a return for a meal. read more
