A ton of British (and other) beers on tap, fair drink prices. The menu is concise but varied--fish and chips, bangers and mash, royale burger, lamb burger. We REALLY enjoyed the pork belly in Korean BBQ starter, absolutely fantastic. I had a double fish and chips, my wife the Royale burger. Loved the meal, wish we'd had room to try the sticky toffee pudding to see if it's as good as Ramsey's at Hell's Kitchen. Parking is limited, as is seating. read more

One of the best places to eat in Athens. I enjoyed their lamb curry. Great flavor even with the shreds of lamb in the curry. Very flavorful. And here is a plus, you can have your pup join you on the patio. The servers were friendly and accommodating. read more

Loved this little British pub! Felt like I was in London as I was here on a Sunday morning during a Premier League match. They have about 12-15 beers on tap including Guinness and some other UK beers as well as some local. I ordered the typical fish & chips since I may never get back and it was perfect. The classic Fish n Chips were quite beguiling. Noticed Baba Ganoush on the menu; Been awhile :) Menu carries much more than UK themed bites; like Thai Curry / Lentil Burgers. If you're looking for that "pub" feel, this is it. Interior seating limited but is supplemented by a great covered front porch. Lamb burger was perfection, as was my wife's lamb roll. Guiness was cool and smooth. Service good. Looking forward to the next visit! read more

Cozy little pub in the downtown area, complete with local drinkers and basic booze. Service is amazing. Had a nice meal going with the Korean bbq style pork belly small plate for starters. Ordered the Royale With Cheese Burger. Came out with a huge hair in it from an amigo cooking in the back! Oh no! Staff took the plate immediately and got me another meal, but still charged full price. Would try again but it is an unacceptable slip-up to have a giant hair in your food. 3.5 Stars read more

To start, I love this place. It opened when I was in undergrad back in '09 and they made the best fish and chips I've ever had. My wife and I moved back to Athens in '24, we've been back a few times and have enjoyed pretty much everything we've had, from the lamb curry to the lamb burger to the pork belly to the stuffed jalapeños to the onion rings. The servers are always attentive, and the vibe inside feels like (what I imagine) a real English pub. The only reason I'm not giving it a 5/5 is that the last couple of times the fish in the fish and chips has been tough and rubbery (the fry and the seasoning is great, it's just the fish). We'll absolutely be back because we love everything else, but I'm really hoping they get the fish re-figured out, because for a loooooong time it was my fav. read more

The fish and chips is fantastic l also had the bangers and mash and it is out of this world. The tartar sauce with the fish is some of the best I've ever had. I would recommend this place for sure. I will update this review later after I try the food, but I called this past Friday and the woman I spoke to on the phone was one of the most rude people I've ever spoke to from a restaurant. I was simply asking how long the wait would be and she clearly was not in the mood for another customer during peak hours. I was looking forward to dining at this restaurant since I can only eat fish on Fridays during lent and was hoping to make it a weekly date with my boyfriend who enjoys pubs since he is from the UK. Came to this place seeking authentic British cuisine. That's a lie, the place had a few tables that needed to be bussed down. We asked if we could sit at the table they said yes. The server was an older lady, she took the glasses but didn't wipe the table down. The next group came she immediately wiped their table down. Interesting and the food we ordered was a "Double Fish and Chips" that's a lie too! I don't recommend this place to anyone. Purely by accident, my friend and I ended up at The Royal Peasant and discovered that they make the absolute best Fish N Chips in all of Georgia! I've tried this dish in lots of places, and elsewhere it's usually either too soggy or too doughy. Here, the completely understand what's required, and do the dish with style and precision :-) This is a nice place to hang out and grab a bite, but if you're a Fish N Chips fan, you owe it to yourself to come check it out! read more

Having grown up in Five Points, I've seen this tiny brick bunker of a commercial building go through quite a few businesses over the decades. Truth be told, I can't remember most of them, but I'm now convinced that the Royal Peasant has got to be the best of them. This little pub also might have occupied this space longer than any of the others. Unfortunately, I never visited it only until the last couple of years, perhaps put off by the inane restaurant name and, until relatively recently, by misconceptions about British food. A visit to Scotland a couple of years ago convinced us that UK food can indeed be excellent--and it's probably much improved in this century, as food has in the United States as well--and a visit to this specific place around the same time and again earlier this year resulted in pretty much the same impression. Had a beef stew of some sort on that first visit that had impressive depth of flavor, but it was the bangers and mash on this more recent visit that sealed the deal. The sausages were quite good and were grilled perfectly but the turmeric cabbage and smashed potatoes raised the dish to a higher level indeed. The most impressive thing here might be the bang you get for the buck: If the Royal Peasant's food is great comfort fare in its own right, it's the relatively low prices for quantities that make it well worth recommending. read more

Small pub where seems everyone knows everyone - Especially around 4pm when folks are getting off of work. I was visiting this area and stopped in. Small building with indoor and outdoor seating. Small menu as well. I ordered Fish & Chips for $12.25. It was ok. The fish was a little gooey for mean and the chips were standard fries, but like the larger, thicker fries that are generally associated as "chips" in a Fish & Chips meal. There was one server and she was great. She didn't miss a beat, even though almost every seat in the house was full on this late weekday afternoon. I'd recommend you give it a try if you like British pub food. read more

Awesome little hole in the wall. Good music was also playing. There were options to eat inside or outside w/ heaters. We chose inside at the bar. Staff was very friendly. I ordered the traditional beef hamburger topped w/ grilled onions, cheddar cheese..... with skinny, crispy fries. Really tasty and cooked perfectly. Had I seen the option to have a lamb burger... I would have, but saw it too late. My husbands had the fish & chips. He loved it!! If we lived in Athens, GA.... We would be regulars at this place. Our plans changed so we were a little behind on our trip so we stopped for lunch earlier than we were expecting. I had scoped out the Royal Peasant for our return trip but figured it will do on the way down, too. Apparently there was a graduation going on because there were people everywhere but we easily got in and got our food. Parking is a little bit of an item but you will figure out the best option. I had the fish and chips and they were so good. The place feels like some of the Euro pubs I visited before and it just feels comfortable. Great spot to check out! read more

The service was super fast, and nice. It is a smaller inside which makes it a little loud but not so much we couldn't have a nice conversation. The best thing was the food, we both got fish and chips which for us is crazy because I don't eat fish and my mom doesn't eat French fries. Needless to say we cleaned the plates. I ordered the duck burger because - I mean - any time there is a duck burger that is going down! And this burger was delicious- perfectly cooked, the fried egg the perfect texture, and the fries nicely spiced and crisped! If I lived here, I'd be a regular at this place. The Royal Peasant is a delightfully cozy pub. Beautiful hard wood walls and bars give everything a very authentically British feel. There's also a nice covered patio. There aren't a ton of veggie options but the lentil burger is good. It's a bit mushy as lentil burgers tend to be, but the flavor is good and it's topped with pesto and roasted red peppers which taste great. Fresh well thought out menu and bar menu. Be ready for a wait for a table, it is always busy!!! Worth the wait! The bar is lively and you can easily have a conversation with locals. Bartenders are FUN!! Very people oriented and they can explain all the seasonal drinks and the variety of the menu. I have stepped out of my comfort zone and ordered a variety of specialty drinks and have not been disappointed. Fish and Chips are a favorite, but there is nothing like biting into their hand pressed burger. Bangers and Mash always makes my husband smile. Plate sizes are not huge!!
