I truly wanted NOT to believe the bad reviews I'd read--especially on other platforms--because I prefer local/independent restaurants and try to support them whenever I can. But wow. Even with lowered expectations, I didn't expect it to be THIS bad.
SERVICE: Unfortunately, the reputation for slow and inattentive service was warranted. We waited almost 10 minutes just to place our order, then another half hour for the food to arrive, on a morning that wasn't particularly busy.
Nobody checked on us after the food was served or asked how anything was--not even after clearing a plate of mostly untouched food. My meal was also served without the eggs that were supposed to come with it. I had to ask where they were, and when they finally arrived, they were poached instead of the scrambled eggs I'd ordered.
FOOD: This was one of the very few times in my life when I genuinely could not eat a restaurant meal. I took maybe two bites of each part of the dish before pushing it away. Nearly everything ranged from bad to inedible.
* Hash browns: Cold, despite my requesting them well done. They had an extremely strange flavor and texture--soft and almost oatmeal-like rather than browned or crisp.
* Country-fried steak: Also cold. Greasy enough that I could see oil pooling in the gravy, which may have been made even worse by the food being served cold. The coating and gravy had an unpleasant acidic/sweet taste, and the texture of the steak was oddly more like chicken than cube steak.
PRICE: At or near the top end of what I'd expect to pay for this type of food, which would have been difficult to justify even if the service and quality had been exceptional. Given what we were actually served, it was especially hard to swallow.
I really did want to like this place. Unfortunately, between the service, the incorrect order, the cold food, and food I simply couldn't eat, this was an exceptionally disappointing experience. read more
