Osteria Olio - Summer squash

Osteria Olio

Five stars all the way for Osteria Olio. The food and service were both outstanding, but their…read morehospitality really set them apart. We originally had a 7:45 PM reservation, but showed up early hoping for a change. They were incredibly accommodating and got us seated immediately at 6:30 PM on the patio. It turned out to be the highlight of the night--we absolutely loved the atmosphere out there. Even for an early spring evening in Athens, the heaters were positioned perfectly and kept us comfortable the entire time. It's rare to find a spot that's this flexible and still executes at such a high level. Highly recommend.

NYC prices with Athens service! Overpriced, lame service and mediocre food…read more Friends took me to this place last night for my birthday. I had already been about four times before and had determined that I was never going back after my last experience. Well, this one was even worse. Maybe some of the worst service ever. The restaurant was half full, and 80% of the clientele were sorority girls. Nothing against them but I remember the first time I went there when it first opened and it was full of townies. We waited literally almost 30 minutes for our drinks. Finally we had to go find a manager. We were told that they were out of one of the liquors so instead of sending one of their lame bartenders over to ask if we had a second choice we sat there for 30 minutes. The food is so overpriced. And honestly? I make better food at home. They have all these cute, nice looking folks serving the food and they're a little matching aprons, but they seriously lack any sense of urgency or attention. Not only will I never go back to this restaurant, I'm going to make sure that all my friends know not to go there. But judging from the current clientele, I think most people have gotten the word that this place is not worth the money. Oh, and at the end of the evening, their valet parking app didn't work. My friend spend a lot of money in restaurants, and as we left they said they would never go back there either. You have been warned!

Manhattan bar

Manhattan bar

Not even sure where to begin to describe the awesomeness that is the Manhattan. Well first off,…read moreit's dimly lit with some retro lamps, light fixtures and scattered Xmas lights. There seems to not be any open space and the walls and ceiling are both pretty much covered with trinkets. There's little 8" vinyl records hanging from the ceiling, along with beads and various other indescribable pieces of art thrown in here and there. Mismatched tables, chairs, booths and couches are tucked throughout the inside of the bar. There's also a straight up bar seating area, which I totally love and is the best place to chat with random local folks. Part of the charm of the Manhattan is that you can totally go in by yourself, sit at the bar and end of meeting lots of interesting people. I was so glad to see that this had not changed a bit since I had been away for 6 years. Second only to my love of dives bars, is popcorn. And this popcorn machine really comes through after a long night drinking in a little dive like this. Even though there are windows, this bar is always dark (just how I like em) and you just lose track of all time. I was just there during winter break & was pretty jazzed to see a ton of hot rum and whisky cocktails. Perfect since it was super cold out. The Manhattan was always one of my fav & deliciously divey downtown drinking spots and so glad to see it still is.

If anything, it looks a little sketchy from the outside given the bars on the window, but it's not a sketchy place at all. Believe me when I say this. I stopped in on a Monday night for a nightcap. It was nice and quiet, which is exactly what I was looking for that particular evening, the following day being a travel day for me. As you can see from my pics, it's a nice little place. Drink prices were very reasonable, and the bartending was very good, too. I will happily stop in again when I return to Athens next year. Cheers!

But oh man, we have at least 4 meals off of this plate of nachos, so they can have my $24 anytime. This is one of the best plates of nachos I have ever had, and I eat mexican a lot if you look at my reviews. I think they make their chips as they are thicker than most, but have an amazing actual flavor, and the toppings are ABUNDANT. This was carne asada and it was absolutely delish. The bartender greeted us when we walked in, showed us where to order and to pick a seat inside or on the cute little patio. They brought the food out within 10 minutes and we chowed. Others around us had margarita buckets and pitchers of beer, so plenty of options. Someone was raving about a pickle margarita...next trip that is on my list. Super clean, very friendly, great food, and it is labeled vegetarian and gluten free on the menu for those of us who need that info. I will most definitely be back.

We ordered a pretty big spread of food including the dip trio, a few tacos, the brisket quesadilla, and some wings. The peach bourbon wings have a great flavor. I actually preferred those to the truffalo. The dip trio was great. The guac was very fresh and creamy. The queso had small chunks of peppers that I liked. I can see the appeal of this place for parents and students alike.
