SALMON OSCAR

Excellently prepared cuisine with superb service. Only area I would want to have improved is how load the dinning area can be.

Fish and Chips
Robert C.

Fantastic fish and chips along with southern style fried chicken! Would highly recommend the fish and chips for anyone unsure. Honestly, the fish fillet was the largest we've seen outside of London so this place is doing it right! They have a great oyster selection as well. Reasonably priced, too! If you prefer dining outdoors you'll love their generously sized patio. That's where we sat. Lovely ambiance.

Salmon with couscous
Michele S.

Food was great! My daughter and husband had the specials. The salmon came on couscous with seasonal peaches. The blackened tuna had a great fried rice on the side. I had fish and chips and the serving was large. I had the best Peartini! Our server was attentive, helpful and friendly! We will definitely be returning.

Hot Crab Dip ($16). Pretty good.

Stylish, comfortable space and an inviting patio that I'm sure is very appealing when the weather is nicer. Came in for Happy Hour in the bar area, but only ordered a $3 Coors Light draft and $6 Chardonnay off that menu. Crab dip was good. Came with plenty of kettle chips. Maple-glazed salmon was very good. The squash and shredded Brussels stacked under rather than on the side was a little unexpected, but it worked. An overall sweet profile. Great service from bartender Bonnie and good value overall. Would recommend especially if you're right in the neighborhood.

Blackened tuna on cous cous

We had a really nice dinner here. Fish from the fish board- I had blackened tuna and the others had swordfish. All the fish was perfect! Even though it got busy the food came quickly and the service was good. We have been here before and always recommend it!

White Ale Allagash
Lesli C.

A small group of us went to Fish On for happy hour and dinner. My husband drinks white ales and was thrilled to find Allagash on the menu. My sister is gluten sensitive and was happy to find flavored vodka seltzers on the menu. The server brought a basket of sourdough bread with a small scoop of delicious salt and peppered butter. What an unexpected and yummy twist! My husband ordered vegetable curry and loved it! Our server was attentive and our food was delivered timely despite the many guests crowding the dining room for dinner. I loved the energy of this establishment, the great menu choices (something for everyone!), and the reasonable bill.

Shrimp and grits

Love the place. The food was great. I got the shrimp and grit. We had the back room that was fantastic for our party of 8. The service was great.

Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes

We arrived right at opening of 5PM and there was a small crowd outside. Easy to find parking in this quiet, residential area. The outdoor dining is super cute. Great breeze and comfortable space to eat. Michael was our server - great guy! We had to change our seats due to the sun burning our backs and they accommodated without hesitation. Ordered a few things to try - all delicious! Atlantic salmon - the star of the show. No wonder so many people order this. I'm not sure how they do it but cooked exceptionally well on the inside with a lovely seared crispy yet glazed crust. The quinoa was great with it and the sauce was divine. Shrimp and grits - I always love a good sauce with cheesy grits. Generous portion of shrimp. Wasn't a big fan of the chorizo as it was a bit hard. Baby Kale salad - SO good. The combination of feta cheese, strawberries and candied almonds works so well with the lemon vinaigrette. A very refreshing salad that greatly compliments your meal. Crab cakes - great shareable portion with yummy slaw. At this point, we had so much food, we had to stuff ourselves but it was good dish. Love the service, food and atmosphere here. Would definitely come back if we are in the area. They are super kid-friendly which I'm always very appreciative of.

Salty kiss and Manhattan

Had dinner outside under the lights with the family. Got the shrimp and grits which is a bit spicy with the red sauce and andouille sausage. There wasn't a wait and there were open tables which was nice. Everyone liked their food and drinks. We like coming because there is indoor and outside seating and the vibe is comfy upscale.

Lets begin with the atmosphere because it was delightful. Its a small, intimate space where the spirit of a speakeasy shines through easily. We went for drinks and apps and I gotta say we will be coming back for dinner for sure me and my wife. How about the food and drink? Well, any of y'all who follow me know I'm not a huge drinker, but I did try the Oolong Hot Toddy and was extremely happy! Warm, the sochu and tea mix so well together, a nice garnish of candied ginger and lemon makes the presentation of this delightful little libation. (Ha, a pun!) Now, the food. Cheese board was great but, thats cheese anyone can assemble a cheese board. No, my credit goes to the crab dip and the calamari. Both dishes were done perfectly, not too greasy, beautifully crunchy calamari and supremely flavorful crab dip. Overall an easy 5, I'd rate 6 if I could.

Make reservations as this is a small space. Very comfortable seating. Lots of decor that again fits the space. Great music playing as well. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and then escorted back into the speakeasy which has its own door. Once inside, we were greeted and introduced to the two servers who worked together all evening. They were very attentive and friendly. They made the visit enjoyable. The menu lights up... literally. Super fun to pick from the numerous drink and food options. For a speakeasy, you will be surprised at how many different options there are. The prices are beyond reasonable for the craft cocktails and amazing food. Started off with cocktails (first round) - Veruca Salt (highly recommend due to its spicy foam & deliciousness), Purple Butterfly (yum), The Ultimate Dirty Martini (very pungent), and The Smoked Cherry (nice presentation/event - also tasty). All of these were delicious and made well. Second round was The Night Shift and a Brown Butter Old Fashioned and again, both delightful. Dessert round was Creme Brûlée Espresso Martini (highly recommend - great presentation with a small mallet that cracks the brûlée on top & absolutely amazing - this is a sweet drink so loom as a dessert option), Espresso Martini (hazelnut flavor and good), and a Carijilo. All items from the bar were super tasty and well made. This is a craft drink place and the quality and attention to details are spot on for the speakeasy vibe. Not only are the drinks superb, but the food is also very well made and very affordable. We started with the cheese tower which is a great option for a group to enjoy. We also ordered the calamari which came with the most delicious horseradish dipping sauce, and lamb lollipops (4 per order). All of this was delicious. Then, tried the seafood bisque, French onion soup, Pumpkin/Crab/Mushroom Soup, and Seared Sea Scallops. The soups were super filling and all had a terrific flavor profile. The scallops were served on risotto and this was great. Seriously, the food is amazing. Not what you normally would find in a speakeasy. They even had dessert options (we had drinks instead). This was a lovely experience. Just overall fantastic and a great surprise hidden in a beach town. For sure make reservations. If visiting for the week, just go ahead and pick two nights to visit so you can try all of the things. Well done. Looking forward to another visit.

Thereafter, the food on the "Asian Fusion" menu sounds great, but leaves much to be desired. More confusion, than fusion. Dumpling Special is a cool notion (why not save a few bucks?). But, when it arrives without ginseng slivers, nor a spoon for dripping the dark vinegar into the removed top knot to mix with the beef soup within the Xiao Long Bau, it becomes apparent skill is lacking in the kitchen. It doesn't help that these dough pouches are commercially bought and not made by knowing hands. The Singapore Black Pepper Crab bowl was sure Szechuan spicy enough, but had so little crab that my crustacean loving wife turned on her phone flashlight to find some. They were ground so small that they were nearly invisible, but could be slightly tasted by their mild sweetness. Just not enough substance to balance the other ingredients. My Cumin Lamb Ho Fun was likewise deep into the heat and looked good with the fat noodles mixed throughout. However, once again the kitchen's lack of deftness appeared with too many tough, stringy and fatty pieces of lamb that were unpleasant and overbore the generally decent quality of the rest of the dish. From my experience, that only happens when attention isn't paid to the texture of the meat when slicing. Cutting lamb against the grain is a no-no. So, even though I enjoyed the Moon Door entrance, the Bodhi (Enlightenment) name and all the on point Asian decor, it was disappointing that all that spirituality stopped at the kitchen door. 2.5 Shakyamuni-less Stars.

Now we know why it's tough to get a seat; this is quality dining that brings customers back again and again. Ben and Diane (mixologist/hostess respectively) have been the owners for two years. I can't make any judgement about the prior ownership but I can say the current owners have nailed it. It was one of the best dining experiences we've had in a long time. We sat at the bar and from the outset Ben made us feel comfortable and he obviously appreciated us as customers. The cocktails were exceptionally prepared. It's obvious he is not merely a bartender and is proud of the special attention and customized twists given to some very traditional cocktails--Sazerac, Manhattan, cosmo. The cream based crab soup was hearty and the seasoning was well balanced. It was a great start. My partner had the fish special and I had the short ribs as entrees. Both were spectacular. Ben had told us that "if this were going to be your last meal, have the short ribs." It wasn't our last meal but his assessment was accurate. I can't recall having short ribs that just seem to melt in your mouth. We were going to defer on dessert but opted for a variation of a flourless chocolate cake with caramel topping. Served warm it was the perfect end to a perfect meal. It's obvious that Ben and Diane have assembled a team that is as committed to excellence as are the owners.
