I love fish king so much. One of the best places to get fresh fish and poke. I'd been wanting to check this place out for years and finally convinced mommy on a Sunday. Thankfully, the restaurant in the back wasn't too busy so, we were able to place an order, find a seat and get our food within a reasonable amount of time. I got the mixed poke bowl while, my mom got the chowder and fried fish bowl. I loved my poke so much, the dynamite mayo sauce they used was delicious and not too spicy, not salty either and the chowder was perfect with the right amount of clams to potato ratio. The fried fish was good too but that's not something I usually order. I will come here from time to time to get poke, the lobster bisque (which is my top favorite item) and the dynamite sauce. Im so thankful they sell it in tubs cause I'm always buying a lot. I'd not make poke at home but I use it for my veggie dips and it's perfect. The customer service is amazing, the workers behind the bar are always nice, helpful and always willing to offer tips on preparation The inside always looks clean and organized as well. The only gripe I have is the parking (and it's located in Glendale blah) but the parking is sometimes hit or miss but, I won't knock any stars for that. read more

I've been to Fish King several times, but today was the first time I felt compelled to write a negative review due to how poorly I was treated. I took a ticket and waited for my number to be called. My number was 88, but after about 7 minutes, the screen showed 89, and no one had called me. I said out loud that I was number 88, but no one acknowledged me. Then I saw an employee who seemed available and told him that my number had been skipped. Instead of helping, he brushed me off, saying he was busy with other customers, and walked away. Frustrated, I waited a few more minutes, and just as I was about to leave, that same employee returned and asked for my order. I ordered a fish, and he handed it to me--without a bag. At that point, I went back into the store to let him know I was really unhappy with how I had been treated: being bypassed and given a fish without a bag. Rather than apologizing, he gave excuses. He said that when he saw my number, he had two other customers and didn't have time to help me. But that doesn't explain why my number was skipped in the first place, or why no one else acknowledged me. Then, when I asked about the missing bag, he said they charge 0.1 cent for bags--but if I wanted one, he could give me one. That's when I knew he was lying. This was actually the second fish I had purchased today, and earlier, another employee had given me a bag without mentioning any charge. Clearly, the issue wasn't the bag--it was his attitude. I'm very disappointed in how I was treated at Fish King. A business that sells quality fish should also treat its customers with basic courtesy and honesty. Being ignored, brushed off, and then given excuses and misinformation is unacceptable. Sadly, after today, I will not be returning. read more

Stopped by an hour before closing because I wanted a quick dinner consisting of oysters and sushi. Make sure to get your number from the ticket dispenser and make a beeline for the sushi section. Lucky for me, the worker was putting out freshly made sushi. Went back to the main area and ordered a half pint of tuna poke along with 6 oysters. Seating area is kept pretty clean by this nice man who made his rounds and checked in on every table, asking if they were enjoying their meal. More than just a seafood counter! We heard of this place as a more local (non ocean side) option to get fresh seafood. Didn't realize until we came in it has a Hawaiian-vibe with poke, lots of Japanese condiments and other wares. We didn't order anything by pound (but we were tempted with all the fresh shrimp and poke!) and instead got plated meals. We ordered at the counter and it did take a bit of wait. There are two separate dining areas at both ends of the store and the near area was full. After about 20 mins waiting at the far area we got buzzed for our meal and found the near area empty. Turns out a lot of people order ahead for pickup or just take out. We ate in store. Food was great and came with condiments inside; at the water station you can get more packets of ketchup, tartar or malt vinegar. We got Opah plate with cucumber and potato salad plus grilled shrimp tacos with fries and Cole slaw to share. The Opah came with tartar sauce and tacos came with cocktail sauce. We also got a bowl of clam chowder and that came with oyster crackers. It does seem wasteful though to have so much packaging for dine in. Parking is available for the same shopping area. It looked like two separate parking lots and we thought we parked in the "wrong" lot but it's the same lot; it just has shrubs separating the "in" and "out" sections. So much variety tho. When you walk in, towards the left there is a sushi area then there is a center section like a fish market then to the right where you can order grilled or fried fish or tacos (hot dishes) and poke bowl and soup. I tried the sea bass platter and a bowl of clam chowder. The grilled fish was ok. Maybe my friend hyped it up too much but I didn't think it was anything special. This is a place I've been going for almost 40 years !! I used to live in the neighborhood and this was the best place for crunchy fish and chips when I was young !! Nowadays, you can get sweet potato fries with your panko crusted whitefish "fish and chips" and it's still my favorite place to come for a grilled salmon salad as well !! Oh My God, what a Fantastic Place! Very clean, no fishy smells. Easy to park, takes credit cards. I went with my Husband and Daughter. My Daughter had the Chilean Sea Bass plate, I had the Poke and my Husband had the Crunchy Codfish and Chips. All were marvelous! Organized numbering system where the staff calls your ticket from behind the counter. The tuna and salmon poke were yummy. Tried the packaged spicy tuna salad, which complimented the poke well. Was tempted to buy some oysters but wow, $0.75 fee per piece to open them for you. There's also an area where you can order grilled/fried fish and other seafood items. Really good seafood, beautifully, if simply prepared. Why then only three stars? Well, I found it awkward to order and find a table ( they're at a premium ). If I lived or worked nearby, I'd probably get used to it, but I'm old school. I prefer to sit at a table and someone comes, takes my order, and brings it to me. I don't mind ordering at a counter, but this place utilizes several counters with confusing menus and ordering instructions. The harried workers ( and some are not that conversant in English ) aren't a lot of help. I noted several people buying fish to take home, both uncooked and prepared. That may be a good idea. I loved my scallops, but there was nothing else that I added to make my meal satisfying. My friend and I had to bus a dirty table to eat there. One sat and held the table while the other ordered. Awesome spot for fish tacos in the Glendale area. My boss recommended Fish King for lunch one day and it did not disappoint. Considering we came in during lunch, we had enough time to order and dine in within an hour. Did I mention ample parking in their private lot? Love the convenience. He ordered fried shrimp with fries while I enjoyed fish tacos with a side of coleslaw. Have I been craving it ever since we had lunch here last? Absolutely. I can't wait to treat my family for dinner soon. They love seafood and finding new places to share with them is always a plus. Pricing is reasonable and service is friendly. This is the spot to grab some fresh fish - they are always helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Their fish is labeled well so you know what is farm raised or wild caught, they have so many wonderful sauces and seasonings that you can use in your kitchen and a fresh sushi area as well. You can also have them cook the seafood for you. I came here and did that once but I honestly do prefer to take home the seafood and cook it myself. Never disappoints! The mvp of the order today was definitely the fried shrimp. It's butterflied and fried to perfection. I ordered the grilled shrimp plate with jumbo shrimp, white rice (wanted the not so fried rice tho) grilled zucchini. A fried shrimp taco. My friend went with the sword fish plate, a dozen fried shrimp, 6 oysters (Fanny bay), cole slaw and not so fried rice. What a treat! Can't tell you enough how fresh everything tasted!! Today was my first day at Fish King. As recommended by the manager... do not order through the Yelp's website which will take you to a 3rd party site. The result will be your order not being placed. I phoned in and that is how I learned my order wasn't placed by the Yelp's website that is provided. Highly recommend this place for fresh seafood. The deep fried oysters were flavorfully battered and so crunchy that while driving home I couldn't stop eating them. I didn't even need the sauces that it came with. Next time I'll have place 2 orders! The fish is fresh and they have a variety of seafood and also chicken and beef. The menu has a lot to choose from! So delighted that we found this gem because Husband was on the hunt for clam strips, and they delivered (I did not mean it literally). We liked it so much that we went back the following week, takeouts both times, and food was ready as promised. There's nothing we didn't enjoy, Lobster Bisque, Clam Chowder (the better soup), Clam & Chips, Dungeness Crab Salad, Poke Bowl and Crab Cakes. The best dish is Dungeness Crab Salad - huge plate with a generous amount of fresh crab meat. The Crab Cakes came in 4 pieces, which was surprisingly filling, with 2 sides. We got cucumber salad and fries. You get good quality and quantity at a reasonable price overall. The parking lot is small & seems to be full all the time, but you can easily street park. We continue to come here often and enjoy the food here. Despite the lack of parking, we usually come every weekend. So when it's busy, there is no seating inside, nowhere to stand, and it is confusing which line you're supposed to stand in. Fish King could have some seating outside. We ordered carry out because there were no seats. Of course when we got to the park we realized we had no eating utensils and no napkins in the bag. They even have chicken and meat, for some reason. If you want Hawaiian poke, they got it here, too. They also serve lunch items and there's a small seating area inside. Large seafood-based menu and too many items to list, so I'll just mention the items I like: - Fried oysters: man, this is so good. Nice breading and they use really meaty oysters. Love the cocktail sauce that comes with it. - Fried catfish: you can get prepared different ways, but I like mine breaded and fried. - Lobster bisque: creamy, full of flavor. And now the dislikes about this place: - Coleslaw: Not very inspiring. Just bland, soggy with a weird, tarty flavor. Need to really change the recipe after all these years. - Fries: Just your super basic shoestring fries that are sometimes fried unevenly. - Parking: parking lot next to it is tiny and this place gets crowded on weekends.
